Flames' Colborne Had Wrist Surgery After Season

News: Joe Colborne underwent surgery on his wrist after the Flames' season ended, Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Joe Colborne had already previously admitted that he played through a wrist injury during the playoffs, but it wasn't clear whether or not the injury would require surgery until Colborne visited a specialist in Vancouver in May. It would likely take some sort of setback for Colborne not to be ready for the start of Calgary's training camp in September.

Flames' Colborne Nursing Wrist Injury

News: Joe Colborne said Tuesday that he played through a wrist injury during the playoffs, Derek Wills of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Analysis: Joe Colborne will visit a specialist in Vancouver next week to determine whether or not surgery is deemed necessary. The 25-year-old didn't miss any postseason action because of the injury, finishing with a goal, two assists, and 20 PIM in the Flames' 11 playoff contests.

Calgary's Colborne Tallies Goal In Win

News: Joe Colborne scored in Game 3 on Tuesday, picking up a goal in a 4-3 victory against Anaheim.
Analysis: Joe Colborne is known more for his tenacity than scoring ability, but he will chip in once in a while, as he did while deftly converting a short-handed breakaway Tuesday. He now has two assists and a goal in nine playoff contests for the Flames.

Calgary's Colborne Set To Play Saturday

News: Despite missing Saturday morning's skate for maintenance reasons, Joe Colborne will be in the lineup in the evening for Game 6 vs. Vancouver, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.
Analysis: Joe Colborne has been a physical force in the series, helping push back against a tough Canucks team. He has also chipped in a pair of points and will be called upon heavily in a pivotal Game 6 Saturday.

Calgary's Colborne Not Skating Saturday Morning

News: Joe Colborne was missing in action at Saturday morning's skate, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: There hasn't been any injury information disclosed about Joe Colborne, but a couple players from Calgary were missing from Saturday morning's skate. It remains to be seen whether this affects Colborne's status for Saturday night's Game 6.

Flames' Colborne Gets Assist, 10 PIM In Win

News: Joe Colborne handed out an assist and earned a 10-minute game misconduct penalty in Sunday's Game 3 win over the Canucks.
Analysis: With the outcome decided late in the third period, the two teams again mixed things up, with both Joe Colborne and the Canucks' Alex Burrows taking misconduct penalties in the game's final two minutes. Colborne had already made his impact felt earlier in the contest, setting up Sam Bennett's first career goal at the 17:46 mark of the third period.

Flames' Colborne Adds PP Assist

News: Joe Colborne notched a power-play assist in Monday's win over the Stars.
Analysis: Since an eight-assist October, Joe Colborne's offensive numbers have been steadily on the decline. Even with the helper in Monday's game, Colborne finishes March with just three points, his lowest output for any month this season. He's functional enough as a depth forward in real-life terms for the Flames, but fantasy owners shouldn't look to him for much assistance.

Flames' Colborne Sets Up Another Score

News: Joe Colborne notched an assist in Wednesday's 3-1 win over New Jersey.
Analysis: Joe Colborne is up to 17 helpers on the season, a nice complement to his plus-10 rating. He's never been much of a scorer but Colborne carries enough of an all-around game to be used in deeper leagues.

Flames' Colborne Dishes Out Two Helpers

News: Joe Colborne dished out a pair of assists in Monday's 5-2 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Joe Colborne has been playing well lately, turning in his third multi-point effort in his last seven contests. The 25-year-old has 20 points but he's only played in 33 games so he's producing at an impressive rate. With his recent surge, the center presents some value in deeper formats.

Colborne Stuffs Stat Sheet For Flamse

News: Joe Colborne scored a goal, picked up an assist, went plus-2 and collected four PIM in Tuesday's win over Buffalo.
Analysis: The Sabres are as fantasy-friendly as an opponent can be, and Joe Colborne took advantage to deliver his third goal and fifth point in the last four games. He's starting to get rolling offensively again and is worth a look in deeper formats.

Flames' Colborne Scores Fourth Goal

News: Joe Colborne scored his fourth goal of the season and had an assist in Saturday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Joe Colborne now has 15 points in 27 games, to go with a plus-5 rating. Playing on the third line, the 24-year-old is decent depth scorer who should end up with 30-40 points in 2014-15. It will be hard for him to surpass last season's 10 goals though, as Colborne has managed just 31 shots on goal this season. He's valuable in some very deep leagues.

Flames' Colborne Snipes A Pair Wednesday

News: Joe Colborne rang in the new year in style Wednesday, sniping a pair of goals in a 4-3 OT win over the visiting Oilers.
Analysis: The tallies were just the second and third of the year for the fifth-year NHLer, with all three of them coming in the last three games. It's tough to forecast this as any type of major breakout for Joe Colborne, but the big 6-foot-5 center is currently lining up on the Flames' top power-play between the surprisingly productive Jiri Hudler (27 points) and rookie sensation Johnny Gaudreau (30 points), so he could be worth a speculative add in deeper leagues as long as he's receiving this assignment.

Flames' Colborne Gets Point In Return

News: Joe Colborne notched an assist Thursday in his first game since late October.
Analysis: Joe Colborne has yet to light the lamp this season, but does have nine assists in 12 games. If you need a center badly, Colborne has flashed a lot of offensive talent this season and is likely available.

Flames' Colborne Set To Return Thursday

News: Joe Colborne (wrist) will be activated from IR in advance of Thursday's game against the Sabres, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: After Joe Colborne was able to take part in morning skate with his wrist no worse for the wear, coach Bob Hartley said afterward that he was "99.9 percent" sure that the forward would draw back in for the first time in 18 contests. Assuming that's the case, Colborne is expected to assume a spot on a scoring line right away, as he formed a trio with Sean Monahan and Paul Byron at morning skate. Michael Ferland is expected to be reassigned to AHL Adirondack to facilitate Colborne's return to the active roster.

Flames' Colborne Takes Contact

News: Joe Colborne (wrist) took contact in Wednesday's practice, NHL.com's Aaron Vickers reports.
Analysis: Practicing with contact was believed to be the final hurdle Joe Colborne needed to clear in his recovery from the long-term wrist injury. The forward was surprisingly among the league leaders in assists with eight in his first 11 games, but expect Colborne to play a more understated role offensively once he returns. The Flames could choose to activate him from IR either Thursday or Friday.

Flames' Colborne Skates With Main Group Tuesday

News: Joe Colborne (wrist) was skating with the Flames' healthy forwards during Tuesday's morning session, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Joe Colborne looked to be day-to-day at this point in the recovery process, with his activation from IR perhaps coming in advance of Thursday's game with the Sabres. The Flames should reassess his condition during Wednesday's practice before reaching a decision of whether or not to activate him. The center said his main concern right now is not about regaining conditioning, but playing without any pain in his wrist, according to the Calgary Herald's Kristen Odland.

Flames' Colborne Close To A Return

News: Joe Colborne (wrist) will skate Tuesday and accompany the team on its latest road trip, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.
Analysis: Joe Colborne is close to returning, according to coach Bob Hartley, and the Flames could use him back. He had eight assists in nine games before getting hurt, and may be worth a look in deeper leagues if you need a winger.

Flames' Colborne Resumes Skating

News: Joe Colborne (wrist) was able to skate on his own prior to Wednesday's practice, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: The skate session seemed to be mostly for conditioning purposes, as his recovery from the wrist injury isn't impacted by the on-ice work. Instead, the greater test for Joe Colborne will come when he resumes taking part in full-contact practice and shooting the puck, which may not come for several more days.

Flames' Colborne Remains Out

News: Joe Colborne (wrist) is still a little more than day to day according to coach Bob Hartley, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Joe Colborne apparently is still a game or two away from returning, although he is traveling with the team. He was off to a great start before his injury with eight points in 10 games.

Flames Place Colborne (Wrist) On Injured Reserve

News: Joe Colborne (wrist) was placed on injured reserve Sunday.
Analysis: Joe Colborne left Tuesday's game against the Canadiens because of the wrist injury, and missed Friday's contest as a result. His injured reserve designation should be retroactive to last Tuesday's game, meaning he would be eligible to come off Tuesday for the Capitals game, though it's unclear if he will be ready at that point. The team recalled Sven Baertschi from AHL Adirodack on Sunday, which may suggest he will be out past Tuesday.

Flames' Colborne Out Friday

News: Joe Colborne (upper body) isn't expected to play Friday against the Predators, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Joe Colborne wasn't on the ice for the team's morning skate and figures to miss his first game of the season as a result. He surprisingly finds his name on the league leaderboard for assists in the early part of the season, ranking in a tie for 10th in the NHL with eight.

Flames' Colborne (Wrist) Considered Day-to-Day

News: Joe Colborne is considered day-to-day with a wrist injury, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 590 The FAN reports.
Analysis: It seems Joe Colborne was fortunate enough to escape Tuesday's game with a relatively minor injury, though his status for Friday's matchup against Nashville is uncertain. If Colborne is forced to sit, look for either David Jones or Johnny Gaudreau to assume his role on the top line.

Flames' Colborne Leaves With Upper-Body Injury

News: Joe Colborne left Tuesday's game with an upper-body injury and will not return.

Two More Helpers For Flames' Colborne

News: Joe Colborne registered another two assists and went plus-2 in Thursday's win over Carolina.
Analysis: For the fifth time this year, Joe Colborne didn't record a shot on goal -- he still has just six in nine games -- and yet he's racked up eight helpers. It's hard not to ride the early wave, but we'd certainly be happy to see him put more pucks on net.

Calgary's Colborne Registers Another Assist

News: Joe Colborne picked up his sixth assist of the season in a 4-1 victory over Winnipeg on Sunday.
Analysis: Joe Colborne now has six points in seven games and is showing why the Flames were so excited for his second year in Calgary. While his 70-point pace may not last, the unheralded forward is still only 24 and in his second full year in the league.
