Cole Assists On Pens' Lone Game 3 Goal

News: Ian Cole set up the Penguins' only goal in Monday's Game 3 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Injuries to Kris Letang, Olli Maatta, Christian Ehrhoff, and Derrick Pouliot have left Ian Cole as the Pens' top offensive threat from the blue line, and to his credit, he's been able to answer the bell thus far. Cole has recorded an assist in two straight games and has a goal and eight assists over his last 12 games, dating back to March 26.

Cole Keeps Getting It Done In Pittsburgh

News: Ian Cole extended his assist streak to five games Tuesday night against the Senators.
Analysis: The defenseman has a goal and six assists in his last seven contests. There's no reason to think he'll cool off, especially with Kris Letang and Christian Ehrhoff out of the lineup. The Pens used him on their top power-play unit after Derrick Pouliot left Tuesday's tilt, another sign of his increased role.

Pens' Cole Coming Out Of Nowhere

News: Ian Cole tallied two assists against the Blue Jackets on Saturday, giving him five points (1G, 4A) in his last five games.
Analysis: With Kris Letang (concussion) sidelined, Ian Cole represents Pittsburgh's best offensive threat from the blue line right now. He's worth a waiver grab over the last week of the regular season.

Pens' Cole Gets Assist Wednesday

News: Ian Cole picked up an assist in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: Ian Cole has recorded a point in three of his last four games with the Penguins, but it's probably not worthwhile to put much stock into that production. Prior to the minor spurt, Cole has supplied only four goals and six assists across 65 games, and didn't post especially notable numbers in the non-scoring categories to augment his fantasy value. He's best left sitting on the waiver wire.

Blues Deal Cole To Penguins

News: Ian Cole was traded to the Penguins on Monday in exchange for defenseman Robert Bortuzzo and a 2016 seventh-round draft pick, Sportsnet's Mark Spector reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole has functioned mostly as a third-pairing defenseman for the Blues all season, producing four goals, nine points, and a plus-16 rating over 54 games. A similar role likely awaits for him on the Penguins, where he'll likely rotate in and out of the lineup with the likes of Simon Despres and Robert Scuderi.

Blues' Cole To Play Saturday

News: Ian Cole (upper body) will play Saturday against the Oilers, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole missed Thursday's game against the Jets while battling a minor injury that had plagued him over the last few days. It appears that the day out of the lineup was all Cole needed to heal up, so he'll draw back in for Chris Butler, who heads to the press box as a healthy scratch.

Blues' Cole Out Thursday

News: Ian Cole (upper body) will not play Thursday against the Jets, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Per the report, Ian Cole -- who has notched points in two of his last three games -- has been playing through a minor upper-body injury of late. Consider him day-to-day as Saturday's game against the Oilers approaches.

Blues' Cole Scores In Loss

News: Ian Cole picked up his fourth goal of the season Saturday in a 4-2 loss to the Penguins. He scored on his only shot of the game and was plus-1 with two PIM and one hit.
Analysis: This goal sets a new career-high for Ian Cole, which is as good an indication as any that he is a defensive specialist. The consecutive games with points is a nice bonus, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Blues' Cole Has Assist In Win

News: Ian Cole picked up an assist Friday in a win over the Bruins. He was plus-2, had two PIM, and added a hit.
Analysis: Ian Cole has just seven points on the season, but his plus-16 rating is helping fantasy owners in deep leagues that count plus/minus.

Blues' Cole Garners Rare Offense

News: Ian Cole provided an assist in Thursday's win over the Lightning.
Analysis: Locked into a third-pairing role for the Blues and tasked primarily with shutting down the opposition, Ian Cole doesn't often see much involvement on the Blues' attack. He's managed only six points in 47 games this season.

Blues' Cole Finds Twine Monday

News: Ian Cole found twine while skating to a plus-2 and fired three shots on net in Monday's 4-2 win over the visiting Panthers.
Analysis: Ian Cole only has three goals and four total points on the season, but they've all come in the last six games. His 21 PIM, 33 SOG and plus-8 on the season would certainly make him a potential fantasy asset should he be able to maintain some level of the offensive production he's flashed over the last 10 days, but the likelihood of that happening is probably slim at this point. In 140 career games, the fifth-year NHLer now has 26 points.

Blues' Cole Scores In Loss

News: Ian Cole tallied his team's lone goal in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Ian Cole tied the game in the second period, but it turned out to be inconsequential since the Blackhawks answered with three more goals of their own. With just two goals and an assist in 25 games this season, there are better fantasy options out there in most leagues than Cole.

Blues' Cole Scores First

News: Ian Cole opened the scoring Tuesday against the Senators with his first goal (and point) of the season.
Analysis: Ian Cole is a marginal fantasy producer in pretty much every category, so he's easy to ignore in the vast majority of fantasy formats.

Blues' Cole Gets A Point

News: Ian Cole was credited with an assist in Thursday's victory over the Devils.
Analysis: It was the blueliner's first point in 13 games this season, as he's mostly tasked with delivering strong play on his own end. Ian Cole will remain a regular for the Blues on the third pairing with Barret Jackman, but there's little fantasy relevance to be had here.

Two Rare Points For Blues' Cole

News: Ian Cole scored one of the Blues' goals and assisted on the other in Thursday's 2-1 victory over Nashville. He went plus-2 and added two penalty minutes.
Analysis: A nice fantasy game by Ian Cole, but don't get used to it -- he'd gone eight straight without a point prior to Thursday and had only put three shots on goal in that span. He still only has three goals and 10 points on the year, though his plus-15 rating and consistent shot blocking at least give him some value in deep formats.

Cole Part Of Regular Rotation In St. Louis

News: Ian Cole has been part of a three-man rotation for the third defensive line in St. Louis.
Analysis: Ian Cole, who happens to be a 18th overall pick for the Blues is sharing time with Jordan Leopold and Carlo Colaiacovo. At this point he is getting the lion's share due to injury to Leopold and Colaiacovo's marginal play. The only stat of note is his plus-12 rating.

Colaiacovo To Replace Cole in Blues' Lineup

News: Ian Cole will not play in Monday's game against the Kings, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole has tallied just two points and four PIM in 13 games this season, so the Blues will switch things up and add Carlo Colaiacovo to the lineup in Cole's place.

Blues Re-Sign Cole

News: Ian Cole has re-signed with the Blues on a two-year contract, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole played in a career-low 15 games last season, registering one assist and 10 penalty minutes, but will now have the chance to break head coach Ken Hitchcock's defensive rotation and earn more playing time the next couple seasons.

Blues' Cole Replaces Ailing Pietrangelo

News: Ian Cole was in the active lineup Saturday night, replacing an ailing Alex Pietrangelo, in St. Louis' overtime win over Anaheim. He skated 20 shifts for 13:27 worth of ice time.
Analysis: It was a pretty uneventful night for Ian Cole, who had a shot and a giveaway on the night. It looks like head coach Ken Hitchcock has settled on his six defensemen for most nights and Cole isn't one of them. This was his first action since the Blues' meltdown in Los Angeles on Mar. 5, when Cole was minus-4 in a 6-4 loss to the Kings.

Blues' Cole Back In Lineup

News: Ian Cole was in the active lineup for a second straight game Monday, replacing Kris Russell on the St. Louis blue line. He finished with 21 shifts for 14:44 of ice time in the Blues' 4-1 loss to the Kings.
Analysis: Of significance is that Ian Cole skated 10 fewer shifts and 10 fewer minutes in his second game. Consistency has been the challenge for Cole in the early part of his career, and that was quite evident in this two-game run.

Blues' Cole Active Saturday

News: Ian Cole replaced Kris Russell on the blue line for St. Louis in Saturday night's loss to Anaheim. He paired up with Alex Pietrangelo, skating 31 shifts for 24:20 of ice time.
Analysis: Russell has been slow out of the gate, having not registered a point and being a minus-4 in the past two games. The Blues have always liked Ian Cole's ability, but he got caught in a numbers game, forcing him to the press box most nights to start the season.

Blues Recall Cole

News: The Blues recalled Ian Cole on Thursday, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole was assigned to the AHL Wednesday, but the club opted to bring him back quickly and send down Jeff Woywitka instead. Though Cole is back with the big club, he will sit out Thursday while Wade Redden makes his team debut.

Blues' Cole Not Expected To Leave

News: Ian Cole, who was assigned to AHL Peoria on Wednesday, may not be leaving St. Louis after all, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Cole was assigned to Peoria in order to clear a roster spot for Wayne Redden.
Analysis: In a related move, St. Louis waived Jeff Woywitka. It's expected that Ian Cole will return to the Blues once Woywitka clears waivers. At that time, Woywitka will be sent down to the AHL and Cole will be recalled.

Blues' Cole Sent Down To Peoria

News: Ian Cole was sent down to AHL Peoria on Wednesday, the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Analysis: It's likely a short stay for Ian Cole, as he is expected to return to the team on Thursday. The Blues will wait for defenseman Jeff Woywitka to clear waivers early in the morning before welcoming Cole back for Thursday's game against the Predators.

Blues' Cole Scratched In AHL Game

News: Ian Cole was a healthy scratch from AHL Peoria's game Sunday.
Analysis: Both Ian Cole and Jaden Schwartz didn't take the ice against the San Antonio Rampage. While we await the details of the NHL season, it's clear the Blues are looking to evaluate Cole and Schwartz for a roster spot on the parent club.
