Two Rare Points For Blues' Cole

News: Ian Cole scored one of the Blues' goals and assisted on the other in Thursday's 2-1 victory over Nashville. He went plus-2 and added two penalty minutes.
Analysis: A nice fantasy game by Ian Cole, but don't get used to it -- he'd gone eight straight without a point prior to Thursday and had only put three shots on goal in that span. He still only has three goals and 10 points on the year, though his plus-15 rating and consistent shot blocking at least give him some value in deep formats.

Cole Part Of Regular Rotation In St. Louis

News: Ian Cole has been part of a three-man rotation for the third defensive line in St. Louis.
Analysis: Ian Cole, who happens to be a 18th overall pick for the Blues is sharing time with Jordan Leopold and Carlo Colaiacovo. At this point he is getting the lion's share due to injury to Leopold and Colaiacovo's marginal play. The only stat of note is his plus-12 rating.

Colaiacovo To Replace Cole in Blues' Lineup

News: Ian Cole will not play in Monday's game against the Kings, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole has tallied just two points and four PIM in 13 games this season, so the Blues will switch things up and add Carlo Colaiacovo to the lineup in Cole's place.

Blues Re-Sign Cole

News: Ian Cole has re-signed with the Blues on a two-year contract, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole played in a career-low 15 games last season, registering one assist and 10 penalty minutes, but will now have the chance to break head coach Ken Hitchcock's defensive rotation and earn more playing time the next couple seasons.

Blues' Cole Replaces Ailing Pietrangelo

News: Ian Cole was in the active lineup Saturday night, replacing an ailing Alex Pietrangelo, in St. Louis' overtime win over Anaheim. He skated 20 shifts for 13:27 worth of ice time.
Analysis: It was a pretty uneventful night for Ian Cole, who had a shot and a giveaway on the night. It looks like head coach Ken Hitchcock has settled on his six defensemen for most nights and Cole isn't one of them. This was his first action since the Blues' meltdown in Los Angeles on Mar. 5, when Cole was minus-4 in a 6-4 loss to the Kings.

Blues' Cole Back In Lineup

News: Ian Cole was in the active lineup for a second straight game Monday, replacing Kris Russell on the St. Louis blue line. He finished with 21 shifts for 14:44 of ice time in the Blues' 4-1 loss to the Kings.
Analysis: Of significance is that Ian Cole skated 10 fewer shifts and 10 fewer minutes in his second game. Consistency has been the challenge for Cole in the early part of his career, and that was quite evident in this two-game run.

Blues' Cole Active Saturday

News: Ian Cole replaced Kris Russell on the blue line for St. Louis in Saturday night's loss to Anaheim. He paired up with Alex Pietrangelo, skating 31 shifts for 24:20 of ice time.
Analysis: Russell has been slow out of the gate, having not registered a point and being a minus-4 in the past two games. The Blues have always liked Ian Cole's ability, but he got caught in a numbers game, forcing him to the press box most nights to start the season.

Blues Recall Cole

News: The Blues recalled Ian Cole on Thursday, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole was assigned to the AHL Wednesday, but the club opted to bring him back quickly and send down Jeff Woywitka instead. Though Cole is back with the big club, he will sit out Thursday while Wade Redden makes his team debut.

Blues' Cole Not Expected To Leave

News: Ian Cole, who was assigned to AHL Peoria on Wednesday, may not be leaving St. Louis after all, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Cole was assigned to Peoria in order to clear a roster spot for Wayne Redden.
Analysis: In a related move, St. Louis waived Jeff Woywitka. It's expected that Ian Cole will return to the Blues once Woywitka clears waivers. At that time, Woywitka will be sent down to the AHL and Cole will be recalled.

Blues' Cole Sent Down To Peoria

News: Ian Cole was sent down to AHL Peoria on Wednesday, the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Analysis: It's likely a short stay for Ian Cole, as he is expected to return to the team on Thursday. The Blues will wait for defenseman Jeff Woywitka to clear waivers early in the morning before welcoming Cole back for Thursday's game against the Predators.

Blues' Cole Scratched In AHL Game

News: Ian Cole was a healthy scratch from AHL Peoria's game Sunday.
Analysis: Both Ian Cole and Jaden Schwartz didn't take the ice against the San Antonio Rampage. While we await the details of the NHL season, it's clear the Blues are looking to evaluate Cole and Schwartz for a roster spot on the parent club.

Blues' Cole Ready Now

News: Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock said Ian Cole improved over the final months of last season to the point where he's ready to play in the NHL for a full season, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: "With Ian Cole, we just feel like with how much he improved in the last two months by just being with us everyday, he's ready... we saw it first-hand, he's ready to be an NHL player," said Hitchcock. Unfortunately, the pesky lockout is getting the way of the Blues' plan to pair Cole with Alex Pietrangelo. Cole is currently skating with the Blues' affiliate in the American Hockey League, the Peoria Rivermen.

Blues Replacing Cole

News: Ian Cole will not be in the lineup Sunday against Phoenix as Kris Russell (concussion) will be making his return after 14 games, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: In related news, Ian Cole took a shot to the head during Thursday's loss to the Kings. He did practice Saturday, but the club is keeping a watchful eye on Cole, who has suffered a few concussions during his career.

News: Ian Cole was a healthy scratch for Saturday night's game against Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Ian Cole was the one taking a seat with Kent Huskins (hand) ready to return after six-game absence.

Cole Appears In St. Louis Win

News: Ian Cole was activated in place of the injured Kent Huskins (hand) in Tuesday's win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Ian Cole had two blocked shots, a hit and four minutes in penalties in 15:53. The Blues aren't afraid to use Cole, who has made the Peoria-to-St. Louis trip and back a few times this season. He'll stay on with the team for the rest of the season and into the playoffs.

Cole Active For St. Louis On Tuesday

News: Ian Cole will play against Chicago on Tuesday, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole's total of nine points in 44 NHL appearances indicates that his fantasy utility is limited in most cases.

Blues Holding On To Cole

News: Ian Cole, who was called up to St. Louis from the AHL last week, will remain with the Blues for the rest of the season, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole's made the AHL/NHL trip a few times this season, but will stick with the major-league team from here on out after St. Louis stood pat at the trade deadline. With uncertainty surrounding Kris Russell (concussion), Cole will be the Blues' seventh defenseman.

Blues Recall Cole

News: The Blues recalled Ian Cole on Friday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: With Kris Russell reportedly suffering concussion-like symptoms Thursday against Nashville, this move was made to add some defensive depth. It's hard to imagine Ian Cole having much fantasy value outside of some penalty minutes.

Blues Demote Cole

News: The Blues have assigned Ian Cole to AHL Peoria, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole, who has chipped in five points in 18 NHL games this season, figures to be back up with the Blues in time.

Blues' Cole Plays Saturday

News: Ian Cole filled in for Kris Russell (flu) and played 12:47 in Saturday's overtime win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Ian Cole was called up from Peoria of the American Hockey League in time to play Saturday. Russell shouldn't miss too much time, so we're looking for Cole to head back to the AHL within a few days.

St. Louis Calls Up Cole

News: St. Louis recalled Ian Cole on Saturday, St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer Jeremy Rutherford reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole puzzlingly has been less productive in the AHL this year (four points in 18 games) than he has been in the NHL (five points in 17 games). He appears relatively unlikely, in any case, to be a fantasy factor this year.

Blues Send Cole To AHL

News: Ian Cole was assigned to the AHL on Tuesday, Blues.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole has one more point than he did a year ago in nine fewer games, but he still will need to up his production a bit to be a fantasy factor in most scenarios.

Cole Returns In Blues' Win

News: Ian Cole returned the Blues' lineup Tuesday after a serving a three-game suspension and was plus-2 in 20:15 in a win over Montreal.
Analysis: Ian Cole got some work on the power play and, like each of his co-workers on the blue line, needed to take extra shifts after Barrett Jackman left the game with a hip injury.

Blues' Cole Back In Lineup

News: Ian Cole is back in the Blues' lineup Tuesday after serving a three-game suspension, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ian Cole should get ample playing time in the next few weeks with Kris Russell unavailable because of a groin injury.

Blues' Cole Serves Suspension

News: Ian Cole on Saturday served the third and final game of his suspension for his hit on Detroit's Justin Abdelkader.
Analysis: We suspect Ian Cole will be active when the Blues take the ice next Tuesday in Montreal.
