Oilers' Fayne Out Again Thursday

News: Mark Fayne (shoulder) will not play Thursday against the Sharks, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne rotated in on a defensive pairing during the Oilers' practice Wednesday, but he's still not quite healthy enough to rejoin the lineup. It doesn't sound like the Oilers have shut him down for good yet, so Fayne's last opportunity to play will come in Saturday's finale against the Canucks.

Oilers' Fayne To Sit Out Tuesday

News: Mark Fayne (shoulder) will not play Tuesday against the Kings.
Analysis: Mark Fayne resumed practicing Monday and appears close to a return, but he'll be forced to sit out a sixth straight game Tuesday. With another positive on-ice session Wednesday or Thursday morning, he could be cleared to play Thursday night against the Sharks.

Oilers' Fayne Practices With Team

News: Mark Fayne (shoulder) practiced with the team Monday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Mark Fayne is questionable to play Tuesday versus the Kings but is expected to play a game or two before the season concludes Saturday.

Oilers' Fayne Remains Out Saturday

News: Mark Fayne (shoulder) was a participant during Saturday's morning skate, but won't play later in the evening against the Flames, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Though the Oilers have little left to play for this season, it doesn't appear that they'll be shutting down Mark Fayne. The blueliner will likely attempt to take contact in the next couple of days, and if all goes well, he could play again at some point next week.

Oilers' Fayne May Return Before End Of Season

News: Mark Fayne (shoulder) will likely return to the Oilers before the end of the season, Reid Wilkins of 630 CHED radio reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne's shoulder injury wasn't originally believed to be particularly serious, however, the fact that the team is noting that he should be available at some point before the end of the season is a bit disconcerting. The Oilers should provide some more clarity regarding Fayne's status in the coming days.

Oilers' Fayne Deemed Unavailable Friday

News: Mark Fayne (shoulder) will not play Friday against the Stars.
Analysis: Neither Mark Fayne nor Matt Hendricks (back) will be available Friday after leaving Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Avalanche with the injuries. The Oilers called up Brandon Davidson from AHL Oklahoma City on Thursday to cover for the absence of Fayne, who has compiled eight points and a minus-21 rating over 74 games this season.

Oilers' Fayne (Shoulder) Won't Return Wednesday

News: Mark Fayne suffered a shoulder injury Wednesday against the Avalanche and will not return to the contest.
Analysis: With Mark Fayne on the shelf, the Oilers may have to look for a replacement option on their third defensive pairing. He'll likely be a game time call for for Friday's showdown with the Stars.

Oilers' Fayne Bags Second Goal

News: Mark Fayne tallied his second goal of the season in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Senators.
Analysis: Mark Fayne cut the Oilers' deficit to one with the second period tally, but things would quickly go downhill for Edmonton thereafter. The blueliner's minus-17 rating on the season is mostly a byproduct of his team's defensive ineptitude, but he's not exactly delivering much value offensively, either. He's recorded just seven points in 57 games.

Oilers' Fayne Has Strong Two-Way Showing Monday

News: Mark Fayne contributed an assist, two penalty minutes and six blocked shots in his 18:10 of ice time Monday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: After a rocky start to the season defensively for the Oilers, Mark Fayne has helped right the ship on the blue line for Edmonton, just as the team hoped he would when they inked him to a four-year deal in the offseason. Fayne isn't an especially prolific puck-mover and figures to fall short of 20 points on the season, but so long as he proves consistently competent in defending his own zone, the Oilers will be pleased with anything he chips in offensively.

Oilers Sign Fayne

News: The Oilers signed Mark Fayne (groin) to a four-year, $14.5 million deal Tuesday, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne suited up for 72 games with the Devils last season, recording four goals and seven assists. He's never scored more than 17 points in any of his four NHL seasons, so expect him to continue to play a stay-at-home role in Edmonton.

New Jersey's Fayne Has Procedure

News: Mark Fayne underwent successful groin surgery on Tuesday, the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne, who finished this past season with 11 points in 72 games, is looking at an 8-10 week rehab, suggesting that he'll be good to go for the Devils' next training camp, barring any setbacks.

Scoring Remains Scarce For Devils' Fayne

News: Mark Fayne has five points and a minus-1 rating in 49 games this season.
Analysis: Mark Fayne has never been a major scoring threat, but he did manage to put up six points in just 31 games during the 2012-13 campaign. His 52 hits and 55 blocks are also rather modest for a player who sees 18:09 of ice time per game.

Devils' Fayne Scoreless In Eight Games

News: Mark Fayne hasn't scored in any of the eight games in which he's suited up this season.
Analysis: Despite a few injuries hitting the Devils' defensive ranks in the first month and a half of the season, Mark Fayne has still been a healthy scratch about half the time. There's no indication he'll assume a regular role for the Devils in the near future, though he'll step into the lineup for the team's two weekend contests with Anton Volchenkov ruled out.

Devils' Fayne May Need Offseason Surgery

News: Mark Fayne is dealing with an unspecified injury and may need offseason surgery, the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne spent a significant amount of time as a healthy scratch this season, so his absence from Saturday's season finale will likely go unnoticed. He has not played since last Saturday.

Devils' Fayne Notches Goal

News: Mark Fayne scored a shorthanded goal against the Sabres on Sunday.
Analysis: This is Mark Fayne's first goal of the season, and he is a low-scoring defenseman who has spent time as a healthy scratch. Nothing to see here.

Fayne Back In New Jersey Lineup

News: Mark Fayne will be in the lineup Friday against Tampa Bay, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne has not been hurt but was out of favor among the team's coaching staff, but will be back in the lineup Friday.

Fayne Returns In Devils' Loss

News: Mark Fayne finished a minus-2 in 14:27 of ice time in his return to the lineup for Saturday's loss at Washington.
Analysis: Mark Fayne had been one of the team's more steady defensive players at even strength prior to Saturday's loss, but didn't see too large of a share of ice time in the loss. Until either Fayne or Henrik Tallinder distinguishs himself on the blue line, defensively, neither of them will have a firm grasp on playing time.

NJ's Fayne to Start Saturday

News: Mark Fayne will return to the lineup Saturday against the Capitals, the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne had been a healthy scratch for three consecutive games. Fayne will play in place of Henrik Tallinder, who will be a healthy scratch.

Devils' Fayne A Healthy Scratch Monday

Devils' Fayne Returns To Action

News: Mark Fayne (arm) returned to action Sunday after missing the previous two games.
Analysis: Mark Fayne missed a couple games with his arm injury, but he was able to log nearly 20 minutes of ice time in Sunday's victory over the Islanders. Expect him to continue playing his reserve role on the Devils' blue line moving forward.

Devils’ Fayne (Arm) Out Thursday

News: Mark Fayne (arm) has been ruled out for Thursday's game as a precautionary measure, the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: This move has little fantasy impact. The defenseman has never been much of a point getter and is averaging just 19:44 TOI/G.

Devils' Fayne (Wrist) Expected To Be Ready For Season Opener

News: Mark Fayne (wrist) is on schedule to be ready to play in the Flyers' Oct. 12 season opener, the Bergen County Record reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist, and remains questionable to be cleared for contact in time for the team's first practice. "[Fayne]'s coming along great," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "He couldn't play tomorrow, but he'll be ready in a couple of weeks."

News: Mark Fayne has filed for arbitration, the Bergen Record's Andrew Gross reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne, who notched 17 points (4G, 13A) last season, will have an arbitration hearing sometime between July 20 and Aug. 4. The Devils can either accept the salary ruling, or reject it and make Fayne a free agent.

Fayne Undergoes Surgery

News: Mark Fayne underwent wrist surgery on Friday and will need 3-4 months to recover Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Despite the surgery and the somewhat open-ended timetable, Devil's GM Lou Lamoriello is still optimistic Mark Fayne can be ready to go by the time the regular season starts.
