Scoring Remains Scarce For Devils' Fayne

News: Mark Fayne has five points and a minus-1 rating in 49 games this season.
Analysis: Mark Fayne has never been a major scoring threat, but he did manage to put up six points in just 31 games during the 2012-13 campaign. His 52 hits and 55 blocks are also rather modest for a player who sees 18:09 of ice time per game.

Devils' Fayne Scoreless In Eight Games

News: Mark Fayne hasn't scored in any of the eight games in which he's suited up this season.
Analysis: Despite a few injuries hitting the Devils' defensive ranks in the first month and a half of the season, Mark Fayne has still been a healthy scratch about half the time. There's no indication he'll assume a regular role for the Devils in the near future, though he'll step into the lineup for the team's two weekend contests with Anton Volchenkov ruled out.

Devils' Fayne May Need Offseason Surgery

News: Mark Fayne is dealing with an unspecified injury and may need offseason surgery, the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne spent a significant amount of time as a healthy scratch this season, so his absence from Saturday's season finale will likely go unnoticed. He has not played since last Saturday.

Devils' Fayne Notches Goal

News: Mark Fayne scored a shorthanded goal against the Sabres on Sunday.
Analysis: This is Mark Fayne's first goal of the season, and he is a low-scoring defenseman who has spent time as a healthy scratch. Nothing to see here.

Fayne Back In New Jersey Lineup

News: Mark Fayne will be in the lineup Friday against Tampa Bay, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne has not been hurt but was out of favor among the team's coaching staff, but will be back in the lineup Friday.

Fayne Returns In Devils' Loss

News: Mark Fayne finished a minus-2 in 14:27 of ice time in his return to the lineup for Saturday's loss at Washington.
Analysis: Mark Fayne had been one of the team's more steady defensive players at even strength prior to Saturday's loss, but didn't see too large of a share of ice time in the loss. Until either Fayne or Henrik Tallinder distinguishs himself on the blue line, defensively, neither of them will have a firm grasp on playing time.

NJ's Fayne to Start Saturday

News: Mark Fayne will return to the lineup Saturday against the Capitals, the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne had been a healthy scratch for three consecutive games. Fayne will play in place of Henrik Tallinder, who will be a healthy scratch.

Devils' Fayne A Healthy Scratch Monday

News: Mark Fayne was a healthy scratch for the second straight game Monday.
Analysis: After a pair of giveaways turned into goals during the Devils' meeting against the Flyers over the weekend, Mark Fayne has found himself in the press box for a pair of games.

Devils' Fayne Returns To Action

News: Mark Fayne (arm) returned to action Sunday after missing the previous two games.
Analysis: Mark Fayne missed a couple games with his arm injury, but he was able to log nearly 20 minutes of ice time in Sunday's victory over the Islanders. Expect him to continue playing his reserve role on the Devils' blue line moving forward.

Devils’ Fayne (Arm) Out Thursday

News: Mark Fayne (arm) has been ruled out for Thursday's game as a precautionary measure, the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: This move has little fantasy impact. The defenseman has never been much of a point getter and is averaging just 19:44 TOI/G.

Devils' Fayne (Wrist) Expected To Be Ready For Season Opener

News: Mark Fayne (wrist) is on schedule to be ready to play in the Flyers' Oct. 12 season opener, the Bergen County Record reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist, and remains questionable to be cleared for contact in time for the team's first practice. "[Fayne]'s coming along great," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "He couldn't play tomorrow, but he'll be ready in a couple of weeks."

Fayne And Devils Reach Agreement

News: Mark Fayne (wrist) agreed to a two-year deal with New Jersey on Friday worth $2.6 million, ESPN's Katie Strang reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne previously filed for arbitration, but the sides have it all figures out now. Due to a wrist injury, though, his availability for the start of the season is still up in the air.

Devils' Fayne Files For Arbitration

News: Mark Fayne has filed for arbitration, the Bergen Record's Andrew Gross reports.
Analysis: Mark Fayne, who notched 17 points (4G, 13A) last season, will have an arbitration hearing sometime between July 20 and Aug. 4. The Devils can either accept the salary ruling, or reject it and make Fayne a free agent.

Fayne Undergoes Surgery

News: Mark Fayne underwent wrist surgery on Friday and will need 3-4 months to recover Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Despite the surgery and the somewhat open-ended timetable, Devil's GM Lou Lamoriello is still optimistic Mark Fayne can be ready to go by the time the regular season starts.

Devils' Fayne Contributes

News: Mark Fayne assisted on New Jersey's only goal in Tuesday's shootout win over Chicago.
Analysis: Mark Fayne has 16 points on the season, which put him near the team lead for New Jersey defenders. He does not produce enough despite seeing power play time, but the Devils are high on him, for what it's worth.

Fayne Snaps Drought In Devils' Win

News: Mark Fayne posted an assist in New Jersey's 5-4 win over Tampa Bay on Monday, his first point in 11 games.
Analysis: Mark Fayne is seeing power-play time for the Devils but is not doing much with it. He has seven points on the season and is one of a handful of New Jersey blueliners largely indiscernible from one another. Those in deeper leagues may want to look at Fayne, but his upside is limited with Adam Larsson and the recent call-up of Matt Taormina.

Devils' Fayne Seeing Top PP Time

News: Mark Fayne played 2:23 on New Jersey's power play in Friday's 1-0 win over the Islanders, most of which with the first unit.
Analysis: Mark Fayne seems to have usurped Adam Larsson's spot alongside Ilya Kovalchuk on first power-play unit's point. Larson had just 53 seconds on the power play while Fayne was close to 2:30. This is not a ringing endorsement to acquire Fayne, as the Devils' power play is woeful, just be aware that Fayne is seeing more offensive opportunities. With Larsson surrendering short-handed scoring chances the last few weeks, expect Fayne to continue seeing looks with the top power-play unit.

Fayne Solid For Devils

News: Mark Fayne has six points in 17 games for New Jersey and two points in the last five contests.
Analysis: Mark Fayne is still 24 years old but has been showing small signs of offensive promise. He sees power-play time on the team's second unit and sports a plus-2 rating with three goals on the season. The Devils do not produce much offense from their defenders and Fayne won't light up the league, but he is worth a look in deep leagues as he is on pace for close to 25 points. He is tied with Andy Greene for the team's lead in points from defensemen.

Fayne Poor In Devils' Loss

News: Mark Fayne looked shaky in New Jersey's loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.
Analysis: Odds are Mark Fayne wasn't on your roster anyway, but two of his turnovers led to short-handed breakaways where he was bailed out by Martin Brodeur. Fayne also was woefully out of place on the Flyers' first goal. Fayne's roster spot was tenuous at best and efforts like Saturday are going to see him rotate in and out of the sixth defenseman spot all season.

Devils' Fayne Returns To Action

News: Fayne returned from his illness to play Thursday against the Rangers. He skated 16:26 and went minus-1 with a shot in the win.
Analysis: Fayne has never been much of a scorer at any level, but he's still young enough to add an offensive aspect to his game at some point. It's really not there now, though.

Devils' Fayne Returns To Ice For Practice

News: Fayne (illness) participated in practice Wednesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Fayne was scratched from Tuesday's win over the Senators with the illness, but his ability to get in a practice bodes well for his chances of facing the Rangers on Thursday.

Fayne Missing New Jersey Practice

News: Fayne (illness) missed New Jersey's morning skate Tuesday and appears unlikely to play against Ottawa, the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Although he plays for one of the league's most miserable defenses, Fayne started showing a bit of promise recently by totaling two assists and two penalty minutes in his last three games.

Devils' Fayne Ill

News: Coach Jacques Lemaire says Fayne is suffering from an illness, according to Tom Gulitti from the Bergen Record.
Analysis: The Devils, like everyone else, are off Monday, but they do play Tuesday and the Devils may need him get healthy quick because they're playing with a short defensive crew.

Devils' Recall Fayne

News: Fayne has been recalled by New Jersey, reports the Devils' official site.
Analysis: Anton Volchenkov is out for an undisclosed period of time due to the death of his father, so Fayne gets another chance just days after being sent back to the AHL. Once Volchenkov returns, expect Fayne to be demoted again.

Devils Send Fayne Back To Albany

News: Fayne was optioned to Albany (AHL) on Monday, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Not much of a surprise here, as Fayne has struggled in the defensive zone while not contributing much offensively. He's a rookie and had his moments, but needs a bit more fine-tuning. New/old Devils coach Jacques Lemaire said the young players needed to pick up their game.
