Coyotes Activate, Reassign Gormley

News: Brandon Gormley (lower body) was activated from injured reserve and assigned to AHL Portland, Corey Pronman of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: It sounds like it could be a de facto conditioning stint for Brandon Gormley, who is ready to play again after missing the last month with the lower-body injury. Once he gets a few games under his belt in the minors to regain his wind, Gormley could be recalled to slot back in on the Coyotes' blue line. He has a lone point in his six games with Arizona this season.

Coyotes' Gormley Practicing

News: Brandon Gormley (lower body) rotated in with the third pairing at Wednesday's practice, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: It doesn't appear Brandon Gormley will be ready to go in time for Thursday's game against the Predators, but he does seem to be closing in on a return. The Coyotes could activate him in advance of Saturday's game versus the Wild if he continues to progress well.

Coyotes' Gormley Making Progress

News: Brandon Gormley (lower body) has been progressing with his recovery but isn't being considered day-to-day just yet, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Brandon Gormley was able to skate with the team during their morning session, signaling that a return to practice might not be that far off. That being said, it looks like he could be forced to miss a few more games before returning, pushing his total length of absence back at least until next week.

Coyotes' Gormley Still Not Practicing

News: Brandon Gormley (lower body) still isn't practicing, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Brandon Gormley was only expected to miss about a week after he was placed on injured reserve Nov. 18, but the Coyotes have since downgraded his condition to "week-to-week." He won't have a more definitive return date until he resumes skating.

Coyotes' Gormley Out At Least A Week

News: Brandon Gormley will miss at least a week with a lower-body injury, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: That timetable was made apparent when Brandon Gormley was placed on injured reserve by the Coyotes earlier in the day, but there won't be a more premise estimate on the defenseman's return date until the results of his medical tests become available. He bagged his first goal of the season Saturday against the Oilers, but evidently wasn't able to finish the game at full strength.

Coyotes Place Gormley On Injured Reserve

News: The Coyotes placed Brandon Gormley on injured reserve Tuesday with an undisclosed injury, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: It's not clear what type of setback Brandon Gormley is dealing with, but he will be out at least a week. David Schlemko was recalled from AHL Portland to take Gormley's place on the roster.

Coyotes' Gormley Scores First NHL Goal In Win

News: Brandon Gormley scored his first NHL goal on the power play Sunday in a 2-1 win over Edmonton. He took two shots, added one hit, and four blocked shots in the contest.
Analysis: Brandon Gormley, who has been a well-regarded prospect for the Coyotes, displaced veteran David Schlemko a couple of weeks ago and seems to be getting his legs under him. Gormley put up 36 points in 54 games for AHL Portland last year, so it is worth watching whether he can translate that upside to the highest level.

Coyotes' Gormley Makes Season Debut

News: Brandon Gormley made his season debut for the Coyotes on Tuesday in a win over the Leafs. He played just 9:43 and had two PIM.
Analysis: Brandon Gormley has been a well-regarded prospect for the Coyotes, but hasn't been able to crack the lineup regularly. The Coyotes are looking for a third pairing of defensemen to take some pressure off of their top four and Gormley could be in the mix if he shows Coach Dave Tippett that he is ready to step up.

Coyotes Recall Gormley From AHL

News: Gormely was recalled from AHL Portland on Monday.

Coyotes Send Gormley To AHL

News: Brandon Gormley was reassigned to AHL Portland on Thursday.
Analysis: Brandon Gormley was essentially battling fellow young blueliner Connor Murphy for a gig with the Coyotes, and it appears Murphy won out. Though his defense remains a work in progress, Gormley will bring a load of offensive upside once he earns a permanent stay in Arizona.

Coyotes' Gormley Reassigned

News: Brandon Gormley was reassigned to AHL Portland on Tuesday.
Analysis: With the Coyotes' season now complete, the team will reassign some of their younger players to the minors to log further action. Brandon Gormley failed to provide any points over his five games with the Coyotes this season, but did finish with a plus-4 rating while he was on the ice.

Coyotes' Gormley Makes NHL Debut

News: Brandon Gormley, the Coyotes' first round pick in 2010, made his NHL debut Monday in place of Derek Morris in a win over Tampa Bay. He was plus-1 and registered one shot in 13:22 of ice time.
Analysis: Brandon Gormley has 34 points and a minus-22 rating in 52 games for AHL Portland this season.

Coyotes Recall Gormley From AHL

News: Brandon Gormley was recalled from AHL Portland on Friday, the Coyotes' official site reports.
Analysis: The 22-year-old Brandon Gormley, a former first-round draft pick, has six goals and 28 assists in 52 games for AHL Portland this season. One of the Coyotes' better blue line prospects, he may make his NHL debut in the coming days. Gormley's promotion indicates that David Schlemko (lower body) probably won't play against the Capitals on Saturday.

Coyotes Reassign Gormley

News: Brandon Gormley was reassigned to AHL Portland on Monday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: It appears the Coyotes only called up Brandon Gormley to get a look at him during practices, not as someone to enter the lineup coming out of the break. That being said, Gormley is enjoying an excellent season at Portland with 32 points in 48 games. The 22-year-old could push for a full-time roster spot with Phoenix next season.

Coyotes Recall Gormley

News: Brandon Gormley was recalled from AHL Portland on Wednesday.
Analysis: Brandon Gormley is likely only on hand to give the Coyotes some depth on the blue line for their upcoming practices with Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Zbynek Michalek still over in Sochi for the Olympics and Derek Morris unavailable due to injury. The 22-year-old Gormley has six goals and 26 goals in 48 games for Portland on the season.

Coyotes Assign Gormley To AHL

News: Brandon Gormley was assigned to AHL Portland by the Coyotes.
Analysis: Brandon Gormley did not see the ice in this stint with the Coyotes. The 13th pick in the 2010 draft, he'll be back at some point when the team needs depth on the blue line again.

Coyotes' Gormley Sent To AHL Portland

News: Brandon Gormley has been assigned to AHL Portland, the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Coyotes GM Don Maloney previously said that Brandon Gormley will undoubtedly join the team at some point this season. The former first-round pick -- 13th overall in 2010 -- had a shot to break camp with the NHL squad, but apparently didn't quite do enough.

Yotes' GM: Gormley Will Play In NHL At Some Point This Season

News: There is "no doubt" in Coyotes' general manager Don Maloney's mind that Brandon Gormley will be playing for the Coyotes at some point this season, according to Craig Morgan of FOX Sports Arizona.
Analysis: Maloney says Brandon Gormley's quickness has really improved and that's great news for the talented defender. He had five goals and 29 points in 68 AHL games last year, and projects as a cerebral, top-four defender. Time will tell if he breaks camp with the Desert Dawgs, but if not, he'll clearly be back before long.

Phoenix Prospect Gormley Best Defender At World Juniors

News: Brandon Gormley was named the Best Defenseman at the 2012 World Junior Championships on Thursday.
Analysis: There were plenty of options for the award but it was Brandon Gormley's talents and composure in all three zones that set him apart from the best in his age group. He's already on most deep keeper rosters but he should be snapped up if he isn't.

Yotes' Prospect Gormley Excels At World Juniors

News: Brandon Gormley was named one of Canada's top players at the 2012 World Junior Championships.
Analysis: Canada picked up bronze in a win over Finland on Thursday. Brandon Gormley was Canada's most prolific offensive defender with three goals and three assists in six games, and he provided the team with stability and leadership in his own zone. He's going to be a good one for Phoenix.

Coyotes' Gormley Sustains Knee Injury in Juniors, Out 4-6 Weeks

News: An MRI has revealed that Gormley, the Coyotes' first-round pick of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, will miss four to six weeks with a knee injury, the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: "He'll make a good run next year for a roster spot," GM Don Maloney said. "Time will tell. . . . If we've learning anything, we've learned not to force the young players here. But his type of game translates to the NHL." Gormley reportedly was extended an invitation to the World Junior Hockey Championship, but will not be able to play as the result of the injury.
