Sens' Gryba Struggles At End Of Season

News: Eric Gryba finished the season with two goals, nine assists, and 64 PIM in 57 games.
Analysis: Eric Gryba brings a strong, physical presence to the Sens blue line, but may have trouble finding a role moving forward. Gryba was often a healthy scratch over the last few months of the season after the team brought up rookie Cody Ceci, so there's a chance Gryba will see his opportunities decrease in 2014-15.

Sens' Gryba Finding Regular Role

News: Eric Gryba is expected to skate on the third pairing Monday night against the Lightning.
Analysis: Eric Gryba will be back with Jared Cowen on Monday, as the two have become a regular pairing on the Sens' back end. Gryba has two goals and nine assists in 45 games this season to go along with a plus-7 rating.

Sens' Gryba Not Playing Consistently

News: Eric Gryba has one goal and seven assists in 34 games so far this season.
Analysis: The physical defenseman has been in and out of the lineup this year, but played five games in February before the Olympic break. He'll likely continue to split time with rookie Cody Ceci when NHL play resumes.

Sens' Gryba Picks Up Two Assists In Defeat

News: Eric Gryba delivered two assists in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
Analysis: With a goal and six assists in 27 games on the season, Eric Gryba doesn't offer a ton of appeal in leagues with standard categories. He is, however, averaging a productive 3.1 hits per game, making him more interesting for formats where that statistic holds value.

Sens' Gryba Not Playing Regularly

News: Eric Gryba has recorded one goal and three assists through 22 games this season.
Analysis: Since the addition of rookie Cody Ceci to the roster in December, the Sens have been carrying eight defensemen, so Eric Gryba hasn't seen regular time in the lineup. Gryba is more of a stay-at-home player than Ceci, so it appears his lack of offensive production could keep him out of the lineup moving forward.

Sens' Gryba Scratched Saturday

News: Eric Gryba will be scratched Saturday, Brent Wallace of TSN reports.
Analysis: Joe Corvo will replace him in the lineup as the rotation at the bottom of the Sens' blue-line corps continues.

Sens' Gryba Plus-1 Tuesday

News: Eric Gryba recorded a plus-1 rating in 11:24 TOI Tuesday against the Panthers.
Analysis: Eric Gryba hasn't been an everyday player this season, as he's been splitting time with the likes of Joe Corvo, Patrick Wiercioch, Jared Cowen, and Mark Borowiecki along the crowded Sens blue line. Gryba has one goal and two assists in 15 games, but could see his time decrease, since Ottawa is apparently shopping for defensive help before the trade deadline.

Sens' Gryba Healthy

News: Eric Gryba (lower body) is back at full health, the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: All indications point toward Eric Gryba being a healthy scratch on Opening Night on Friday, but it's likely he'll play Saturday against the Maple Leafs since it would be the second night of a back-to-back. The blueliner played 33 games last season for the Sens, recording two goals and four assists.

Sabres' Gryba (Lower Body) Skates Saturday

News: Eric Gryba (lower body) skated during Saturday's practice, the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Eric Gryba is making steady progress in his recovery from a lower-body injury that has hampered him through most of camp, but could be running out of time to secure a roster spot for the Senators. It might make sense for the Senators to give him further reps at AHL Binghamton once the season starts before bringing him back to the parent club after he demonstrates he's fully healthy.

Seantors' Gryba Out With Undisclosed Injury

News: Eric Gryba suffered an undisclosed injury early in training camp and hasn't been skating, the Senators' official site reports.
Analysis: Eric Gryba averaged 20:17 of ice time in 33 games as a rookie last season, but despite the steady playing time, he notched just six points (two goals) and 26 PIM, failing to emerge as a strong fantasy contributor. With no real information available on his injury, it's hard to say where Gryba stands for the regular season. Ottawa's opener is scheduled for Oct. 4 in Buffalo.

Sens' Gryba Skates

News: Eric Gryba (upper body) skated with the team Wednesday, Ian Mendes of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: The morning skate marked the first time since Game 1 of their second-round series with the Penguins that Eric Gryba was on the ice, but there was no indication he will be in the lineup for Wednesday's Game 4.

Sens' Gryba Still Ailing

News: Eric Gryba (upper body) is not close to returning, the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Eric Gryba still has not been cleared for contact after being hit by Pens defenseman Brooks Orpik in Game 1 of the Senators' second-round series. Andre Benoit played in Gryba's place in Game 3, and can be expected to do so again in Game 4 on Wednesday, especially considering Benoit set up the game-winner in overtime Sunday.

Sens' Gryba Out For Sunday

News: Eric Gryba (upper body) will miss Sunday's Game 3 against the Penguins.
Analysis: Andre Benoit will check in on the Sens' third defensive pairing in his place, but neither player should be counted on for much production in terms of fantasy points.

Sens' Gryba Out Friday

News: Eric Gryba (upper body) is out for Friday's Game 2 against the Penguins, TSN's Brent Wallace reports.
Analysis: Andre Benoit will take Eric Gryba's place in the lineup Friday. Guillaume Latendresse will also be inserted into the lineup in place of Matt Kassian.

Sens' Gryba Misses Morning Skate

News: Eric Gryba (upper body) was not on the ice for Friday morning's skate, TSN's Brent Wallace reports.
Analysis: Eric Gryba is dealing with an upper-body injury and is a game-time decision for Friday's Game 2 against the Penguins.

Sens' Gryba Expected To Miss Game 2

News: Eric Gryba (upper body) will be a game time decision for Friday's Game 2 against the Penguins, the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Eric Gryba missed practice Thursday for the second straight day, so most of the speculation is that he will not suit up Friday, and that Andre Benoit will take his place along the blue line.

Sens' Gryba Could Play Friday

News: Eric Gryba (upper body) has not been ruled out for Friday's Game 2, the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: The blueliner left Game 1 on Tuesday after being hit by the Penguins' Brooks Orpik and was not on the ice for Thursday's practice, but it doesn't appear too serious, so Eric Gryba's status for Friday has yet to be determined.

Sens' Gryba Exits With Upper-Body Injury

News: Eric Gryba suffered an upper-body injury in Tuesday's game and will not return.
Analysis: Eric Gryba suffered the injury on a second-period hit from Pittsburgh's Brooks Orpik. It remains to be seen if the setback will prevent him from playing in Friday's Game 2.

Sens' Gryba Done With Suspension

News: Eric Gryba (suspension) will be available to play in Tuesday's Game 4 against the Canadiens.
Analysis: Expect Eric Gryba to be in the lineup Tuesday since fellow defenseman Patrick Wiercioch will be unavailable with a lower-body injury. Gryba only had six points in 33 games this season, but may rack up double digit PIMs in Game 4 if the Habs seek revenge for the Game 1 hit on Lars Eller that got Gryba suspended.

Sens' Gryba Suspended Two Games

News: Eric Gryba has been suspended two games for his shot on Montreal's Lars Eller in Thursday's Game 1, Bob McKenzie of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: The Senators will be without Eric Gryba for Friday's Game 2 as well as Sunday's Game 3 against the Canadiens following the hit to Eller on Thursday. Eller suffered a head injury and had to spend a night in the hospital for evaluation.

Seantors' Gyrba Ejected For Cheap Shot

News: Eric Gryba was sent off the ice for the remainder of Thursday's Game 1 after leveling Montreal's Lars Eller with a cheap shot.
Analysis: Eric Gryba lowered his shoulder as he passed Eller, who was not near the puck at the time. Given that Eller appeared to suffer a serious injury on a blatantly illegal hit, a suspension is essentially guaranteed. The Senators should not plan on having Gryba available in Game 2 and will already have to do without him for the remainder of Game 1.

Gryba Scores In Sens' Loss

News: Eric Gryba scored his second goal of the season in Friday's loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: Eric Gryba's primary function on the ice is to stop the opposition rather than create offense. He's a rookie and has a modest 23 games in the NHL, but he's a budding defender albeit one that will focus more on his own zone than making a mark offensively.

Senators' Gryba A Plus-1Thursday

News: Eric Gryba was a plus-1 in 19:51 on ice Thursday.
Analysis: Eric Gryba has been playing better and better and is a key part of Ottawa's defense. But, despite logging a lot of minutes, he has more hockey value than fantasy value with only four points in 20 games.

Ottawa's Gryba Playing Lots of Minutes

News: Eric Gryba saw 24:20 of ice time in Monday's game against New Jersey.
Analysis: Eric Gryba did little else on Monday but play 24:20. He didn't even register a shot. It is encouraging to note that Senators management appear to believe in him and have been giving the 24-year-old defenseman lots of minutes. He's averaging 21:50 this year. Don't bank on him for points production right now though.

Sens' Gryba Notches First NHL Point

News: Eric Gryba picked up his first point in the NHL, an assist, in Tuesday's win over the Isles.
Analysis: He assisted on Dave Dziurzynski's first NHL goal, so it was a day of celebration all 'round. Eric Gryba's not much of an offensive prospect from the blue line, but he'll be good for some PIMs provided he can stay in the lineup.
