Panthers Re-Sign Gudbranson

News: Erik Gudbranson re-signed with the Panthers on a two-year contract Thursday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson, the third overall choice in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, hasn't shown much offensive ability during his career, with just 21 points over 169 career games. However, he has shown the ability to provide some fantasy utility in the form of PIM (114 in 2013-14), hits (158), and blocks (91). He could see his minutes count rise during the upcoming campaign following the offseason departure of Tom Gilbert.

Panthers' Gudbranson Expected To Return Thursday

News: Erik Gudbranson (knee) is expected to return to the lineup Thursday against the Hurricanes, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: His return comes as good timing for the Panthers, who lost defenseman Tom Gilbert to season-ending sports hernia surgery Thursday. Erik Gudbranson has lost large chunks of the past two seasons due to injury, but the former third overall pick will use the final weeks of the season as an opportunity to finish on a high note. He has seven points and a minus-8 rating over 56 games this season.

Panthers' Gudbranson Returns Thursday Night

News: Erik Gudbranson was a minus-1 in 19:08 minutes of ice time during Thursday's 3-0 loss to Carolina.
Analysis: It was Erik Gudbranson's first game since Mar. 9 after missing the previous two weeks with a minor knee injury. With seven points and 95 PIM in 57 games this season, the former 3rd overall pick will only be a fantasy asset for those seeking a boost in PIM down the stretch.

Panthers' Gudbranson To Miss Two Weeks

News: Erik Gudbranson (knee) is expected to miss the next two weeks, NHL.com's Alain Poupart reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson was spotted on crutches after sustaining the knee injury Sunday vs. the Bruins, and it looks like he'll miss the next several games as a result. The Panthers have already recalled Mike Mottau from AHL San Antonio to take his spot in the lineup.

Knee Injury For Panthers' Gudbranson

News: Erik Gudbranson's lower-body injury is related to his knee, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson is awaiting an assessment from the team's medical staff before a proper timetable emerges. Regardless, it seems unlikely that he plays Tuesday against the Coyotes, and perhaps a few games beyond that.

Panthers Gudbranson Exits Sunday's Game

News: Erik Gudbranson was forced out of Sunday's game against the Bruins with an unspecified injury, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson, who left the game after a collision with Boston's Brad Marchand, entered Sunday's game with seven points and 93 PIM in 55 contests.

Panthers' Gudbranson Scratched Again

News: Erik Gudbranson will be a healthy scratch Thursday night against Toronto in spite of earlier reports that he might play, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson is firmly entrenched in coach Peter Horachek's dog house at the moment as he will be a healthy scratch for the third straight game.

Panthers' Gudbranson Expected To Play Thursday

News: Erik Gudbranson is expected to reenter the lineup Thursday vs. the Maple Leafs, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Coach Peter Horachek indicated he was disappointed by the team's lack of physicality in an embarrassing 6-2 loss to the Bruins on Tuesday, and it sounds like he could shake up his lineup for the next game. Erik Gudbranson was held out Tuesday due to concerns about how his transition to a new visor would affect his play, but it appears he has adjusted just fine to the equipment change.

Panthers' Gudbranson Scratched Again

News: Erik Gudbranson will not play Tuesday night in Boston, as he will be healthy scratched for the second straight game, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson has not registered a point since Dec. 10 and has seen his ice time decrease in the process. The 22-year-old defenseman hasn't played more than 16 minutes in his past seven contests and has been called out in the media for his poor play by head coach Peter Horacheck in the process. There are a lot more worthwhile fantasy options than Gudbranson at the moment.

Gudbranson Minus-1 In Return To Panthers Lineup

News: Erik Gudbranson was a minus-1 in 19:23 minutes of ice-time in the Panthers' 2-1 loss to the Canadiens, Monday night.
Analysis: After missing the past two weeks with a broken orbital bone, Erik Gudbranson logged his typical top-four minutes on the Panthers' backend and should continue to do so going forward.

Gubranson To Return To Panthers' Lineup Monday

News: Erik Gudbranson will return to the Panthers lineup Monday night against the Canadiens after missing the past two weeks with a broken orbital bone, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson will be paired with Ed Jovanovski in his first game back for the Cats. Gudbranson will provide most of his fantasy value via PIM as he has 74 on the year in 37 games.

Panthers' Gudbranson Could Return Monday

News: Erik Gudbranson (eye) could be back in the lineup Monday against the Canadiens, the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: It sounds like Erik Gudbranson could make an early return Monday after missing two weeks with a broken orbital bone. Just Friday, reports surfaced that suggested Gudbranson would miss another two weeks. He'll wear a steel cage on his helmet to protect his face upon his return, which appears likely to come on the road trip, if not Monday.

Panthers' Gudbranson Expected To Miss Two Weeks

News: Grandbranson is expected to return to action in roughly two weeks, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Grandbranson skated in practice on Thursday, just a week after undergoing surgery on his orbital bone, wearing a caged mask for protection. The defenseman had been on pace to eclipse career-best numbers in scoring and penalty minutes before going down to injury.

Panthers' Gudbranson Placed On IR

News: Erik Gudbranson (eye) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
Analysis: The Panthers have labeled Erik Gudbranson as out indefinitely after he underwent eye surgery Monday, so he'll head to injured reserve to open up a roster spot. The defenseman had seven points and 74 penalty minutes in 37 games and was on pace to set career highs in both categories before suffering the injury.

Panthers' Gudbranson (Eye) Out Indefinitely

News: Erik Gudbranson underwent orbital surgery Monday and is out indefinitely, the Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson apparently suffered the injury Friday against the Jets, and it's unknown when he'll make his return to the ice. The third overall pick in the 2010 draft has recorded seven points (two goals, five assists) and a minus-7 rating in 37 games this season.

Goal, Helper For Panthers' Gudbranson

News: Erik Gudbranson scored a goal and assisted on Dylan Olsen's first NHL goal in Thursday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: It was just Erik Gudbranson's second goal of the year, and his first points since he similarly tallied a goal and an assist back on Nov. 25 against the Flyers. Aside from these rare big games, points have been few and far between for 2010's No. 3 overall pick.

Panthers' Gudbranson Breaks Out Of Slump

News: Erik Gudbranson tallied a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over the Flyers on Monday.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson also added four shots and two PIM in the victory. The former third-overall pick had struggled mightily this season, with only two assists in his previous 24 games. Monday night's performance will most likely be an outlier this season, but those in desperate need of a defenseman can always roll the dice with Gudbranson, since he'll consistently log heavy minutes and occasional power-play time.

Panthers' Gudbranson Lacking Production

News: Erik Gudbranson has two points and a minus-11 rating through 21 games.
Analysis: The Panthers weren't counting on Erik Gudbranson to supply much in the way of offensive production, and his poor plus/minus rating speaks mostly to the team's overall lack of talent. On the bright side, Gudbranson has supplied 51 penalty minutes, already surpassing the 47 he compiled in 13 more games last season.

Panthers' Gudbranson Tallies First Point Of Season

News: Erik Gudbranson tallied his first point of the season with an assist and duked it out twice for 10 minutes in penalties against the Sabres on Friday.
Analysis: It was a busy game for the 21-year-old defenseman as Erik Gudbranson assisted on Jessie Winchester's goal and then went toe-to-toe with Steve Ott to close the first period. He then traded fists with Cody McCormick midway through the second and finished the game with three shots on goal and a minus-1 rating. Through 11 games this season he has just the one point and 40 minutes in penalties, so we know exactly where his fantasy value lies.

Panthers' Gudbranson Posts Minus-3 Rating

News: Erik Gudbranson was a minus-3 rating in the Panthers' 7-2 loss to the Lightning on Thursday.
Analysis: Gubranson also registered five penalty minutes with a fight against B.J. Crombeen. The 21-year-old defenseman has been horrible this season through four games as he failed to record a point while posting a minus-5 rating. His only fantasy positive fantasy contribution has been his 30 penalty minutes, though the Panthers brass is probably not too pleased with his lack of discipline.

Panthers' Gudbranson Returns To Practice

News: Erik Gudbranson (upper body) returned to practice Monday, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson was pulled from Saturday's preseason finale after sustaining the upper body injury, but his return to practice Monday suggests that might have just been a precautionary move by coach Kevin Dineen. He should be good to go for Thursday's season opener against the Stars.

Panthers' Gudbranson Suffers Upper-Body Injury

News: Erik Gudbranson left Saturday's game with an upper-body injury, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Harvey Fialkov reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson was reportedly begging his coach to go back in the game, so the injury probably isn't very serious. He finished last season with four assists, 47 PIMs, and a minus-22 in 32 appearances.

Panthers' Gudbranson (Hand) Out Saturday

News: Erik Gudbranson (hand) will not play in Saturday's season finale against Tampa Bay, the Miami Herald's George Richards reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson has not played in over a week and will finish the season with four assists and 47 PIMs in 32 games. He should be healthy well before the start of the 2013-14 campaign.

Panthers' Gudbranson Out Tuesday

News: Erik Gudbranson (hand) will not play in Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Christina De Nicola of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: There was a chance Erik Gudbranson could have played Tuesday, but it appears he will sit out for the third straight game. Colby Robak will be recalled from AHL San Antonio to provide some depth on the blue line.

Panthers' Gudbranson Could Play Tuesday

News: Erik Gudbranson (hand) could be back Tuesday against the Rangers, the Miami Herald's George Richards reports.
Analysis: With just four points and a minus-22 rating in 32 games to date, Erik Gudbranson hasn't made much of a fantasy impact in formats that don't count his PIMs (47) or hits (80).
