Panthers' Gudbranson Out Against Devils

News: Erik Gudbranson (upper body) is out for Saturday's game against the Devils, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson took a hard hit from the Bruins' Brett Connolly and came out of Thursday's game as a result of it. The 23-year-old scored four goals and had nine assists while picking up 58 penalty minutes in 76 games this season.

Florida's Gudbranson Exits With Injury Thursday

News: Erik Gudbranson left Thursday's win over the Bruins with an upper-body injury, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson appeared to suffer the injury when he was the recipient of a hit from the Bruins' Brett Connolly. He's being categorized as day-to-day for the time being, and with only Saturday's game against the Devils remaining on the schedule for the Panthers, it's possible Gudbranson will just be shut down for the season.

Panthers' Gudbranson To Return To Lineup Saturday

News: Gubranson will return to the lineup Saturday after sitting out as a healthy scratch in Thursday's win over the Maple Leafs, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The return of Steve Kampfer from a groin injury resulted in Erik Gudbranson getting sent to the press box, but coach Gerard Gallant seemed to imply that it was just a one-time decision. Look for Gudbranson, who has four goals and 12 points in 69 games this season, to displace Alex Petrovic from Saturday's lineup.

Panthers' Gudbranson Picks Up Assist In Loss

News: Erik Gudbranson picked up an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson isn't the most offensive minded defenseman, as the assist was his first point since Mar. 7. He has four goals and eight assists on the season and his 12 points are fourth among defensemen on the team. The former third overall pick in 2010 typically logs heavy ice time for the team, breaking the 20-minute mark five times in 10 games in March. His fantasy value is limited due to his low scoring numbers, but he can help normalize your ice time and will pick up more than the occasional penalty minute.

Panthers' Gudbranson Nets Fourth Of Year

News: Erik Gudbranson scored an unassisted goal in Saturday's 4-3 shootout victory over the Islanders.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson is not a big point producer, but still found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. He's been logging 18:33 of ice time per game and and picks up penalty minutes on a semi-regular basis. He is not a bad fantasy option, but those not in deeper leagues should look elsewhere for help along the blue line.

Panthers' Gudbranson To Play Saturday

News: Erik Gudbranson (illness) will play Saturday against the Islanders, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: As the decision to send defenseman Shane O'Brien back to the minors on Friday seemed to foreshadow, Erik Gudbranson is fully recovered from his bout with the stomach flu that he endured earlier in the week. He was forced to sit out one game with the virus.

Panthers' Gudbranson Should Be Good To Go

News: Erik Gudbranson (illness) should be able to play in Saturday's game against the Islanders, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The Panthers sent fellow defenseman Shane O'Brien back to AHL San Antonio, indicating that Erik Gudbranson will only be forced to miss one game due to the illness. Expect the Panthers to provide official word on Gudbranson's availability following Saturday's morning skate.

Panthers' Gudbranson (Illness) Out Thursday

News: Erik Gudbranson will miss Thursday's game against the Stars due to flu-like symptoms, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The same goes for fellow defenseman Willie Mitchell, who was previously expected to make his return from an upper body injury. Alex Petrovic will likely slot into the lineup for Thursday's game, and the Panthers may need to recall a blueliner from AHL San Antonio. Erik Gudbranson and Mitchell can both be considered questionable for Saturday's game against the Islanders.

Gudbranson Assists Twice For Panthers

News: Erik Gudbranson picked up a couple helpers -- one on the power play -- in Tuesday's win over the Ducks.
Analysis: A rare multi-point game for Erik Gudbranson, this one's good enough to give him double-digit points for the first time in his career. But 10 points in 49 games doesn't add up to much fantasy value, even when you factor in his 121 hits.

Panthers' Gudbranson Finds Nylon Tuesday

News: Erik Gudbranson scored his third goal of the season in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson stormed toward the net and demonstrated crafty puckwork around defenders to trigger the goal siren. The defenseman also had three hits in the game. Despite coming up big Tuesday, Gudbranson isn't making enough noise offensively to merit serious consideration in the fantasy world.

Panthers' Gudbranson To Play Friday

News: Erik Gudbranson (upper body) will play Friday against the Flames, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson has apparently recovered enough from the upper-body injury that kept him out of Thursday's game against the Canucks to suit up Friday against Calgary. His return couldn't have come at a better time for the Panthers, as Dmitry Kulikov will miss Friday's contest with the flu. Gudbranson has registered five points and 33 PIM through 35 games with the Panthers this season.

Panthers' Gudbranson To Be Held Out Thursday

News: Erik Gudbranson (upper body) will remain unavailable Thursday against the Canucks, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson has been practicing with the team since Tuesday, but coach Gerard Gallant expressed a desire to give him some more time off to recover from the injury. Shane O'Brien will replace him on the Panthers' blue line for the third straight game.

Panthers' Gudbranson Returns To Practice

News: Erik Gudbranson (upper body) returned to practice Tuesday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The Panthers' next game won't come until Thursday in Vancouver, so with another practice Wednesday, Erik Gudbranson doesn't appear in danger of missing any further time due to injury. The 23-year-old hasn't exhibited much growth offensively this season, providing just one goal and four assists over 35 games.

Panthers' Gudbranson Likely To Sit Sunday

News: Erik Gudbranson (upper body) is unlikely to play Sunday against the Capitals, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson failed to get on the ice for Saturday's practice, which will probably prompt coach Gerard Gallant to sit him out for a second straight contest. Shane O'Brien is set to take his spot in the lineup.

Gudbranson Out Friday With Upper-Body Injury

News: Erik Gudbranson will miss Friday's game against the Sabres with an upper-body injury, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson's injury is the likely reason for the recall of Shane O'Brien on Friday, who will draw into the lineup in his place. His next chance to return will come Sunday against, but the team should provide an update prior to the game.

Panthers' Gudbranson Tallies Assist In Loss

News: Erik Gudbranson got on the scoresheet by adding a power-play assist in Thursday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: The assist was his third of the season and first point in seven games. Don't let the power-play assist fool you, Erik Gudbranson only saw 1:36 minutes with the man advantage. Florida has plenty of options in front of Gudbranson so unless there are injuries, expect him to be limited throughout the season.

Panthers' Gudbranson With PP Assist In Win

News: Erik Gudbranson picked up a rare power-play assist in Thursday's shootout win against the Sharks.
Analysis: The assist was just his third point of the season (1G, 2A), and his second power-play assist. His career high in points is only nine so he is already one-third of the way there, which isn't saying much. Erik Gudbranson plays on the third defense pairing and last season racked up 114 PIM, which was good enough for 20th in the league. So if you're awarded for PIM, he should definitely be an option, especially if he continues to see power play time to chip in the odd power-play point.

Panthers' Gudbranson Tallies Goal In Defeat

News: Erik Gudbranson had an active season debut Thursday against the Lightning, potting a goal on three shot attempts while picking up four penalty minutes.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson's pedigree as a former top-three draft choice always makes him worth tracking, despite his rather tepid career production to date. However, defensemen often face notoriously long development curves, so it's certainly within Gudbranson's ability to come through with a breakout in 2014-15. That being said, his standing on the Panthers' third pairing could depress his minutes load, which would in turn hinder his opportunities to pile up points, hits and blocks.

Panthers Re-Sign Gudbranson

News: Erik Gudbranson re-signed with the Panthers on a two-year contract Thursday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson, the third overall choice in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, hasn't shown much offensive ability during his career, with just 21 points over 169 career games. However, he has shown the ability to provide some fantasy utility in the form of PIM (114 in 2013-14), hits (158), and blocks (91). He could see his minutes count rise during the upcoming campaign following the offseason departure of Tom Gilbert.

Panthers' Gudbranson Expected To Return Thursday

News: Erik Gudbranson (knee) is expected to return to the lineup Thursday against the Hurricanes, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: His return comes as good timing for the Panthers, who lost defenseman Tom Gilbert to season-ending sports hernia surgery Thursday. Erik Gudbranson has lost large chunks of the past two seasons due to injury, but the former third overall pick will use the final weeks of the season as an opportunity to finish on a high note. He has seven points and a minus-8 rating over 56 games this season.

Panthers' Gudbranson Returns Thursday Night

News: Erik Gudbranson was a minus-1 in 19:08 minutes of ice time during Thursday's 3-0 loss to Carolina.
Analysis: It was Erik Gudbranson's first game since Mar. 9 after missing the previous two weeks with a minor knee injury. With seven points and 95 PIM in 57 games this season, the former 3rd overall pick will only be a fantasy asset for those seeking a boost in PIM down the stretch.

Panthers' Gudbranson To Miss Two Weeks

News: Erik Gudbranson (knee) is expected to miss the next two weeks, NHL.com's Alain Poupart reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson was spotted on crutches after sustaining the knee injury Sunday vs. the Bruins, and it looks like he'll miss the next several games as a result. The Panthers have already recalled Mike Mottau from AHL San Antonio to take his spot in the lineup.

Knee Injury For Panthers' Gudbranson

News: Erik Gudbranson's lower-body injury is related to his knee, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson is awaiting an assessment from the team's medical staff before a proper timetable emerges. Regardless, it seems unlikely that he plays Tuesday against the Coyotes, and perhaps a few games beyond that.

Panthers Gudbranson Exits Sunday's Game

News: Erik Gudbranson was forced out of Sunday's game against the Bruins with an unspecified injury, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson, who left the game after a collision with Boston's Brad Marchand, entered Sunday's game with seven points and 93 PIM in 55 contests.

Panthers' Gudbranson Scratched Again

News: Erik Gudbranson will be a healthy scratch Thursday night against Toronto in spite of earlier reports that he might play, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson is firmly entrenched in coach Peter Horachek's dog house at the moment as he will be a healthy scratch for the third straight game.
