Islanders Place Kabanov On Waivers

News: Kirill Kabanov was placed on unconditional waivers by the Islanders on Tuesday.
Analysis: The 21-year-old is extremely skilled but his lack of maturity has hampered his prospects for an NHL career. The Islanders loaned him to MoDo in Sweden last season, and Tuesday's move appears to signify the team has pulled the plug on the Kirill Kabanov experiment.

Isles' Kabanov To Play In Europe

News: The Islanders have loaned Kirill Kabanov to MoDo of the SEL, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Kirill Kabanov has always had the skill to play in the NHL but a lack of maturity has limited his progress. In the end Kabanov was a gamble probably worth taking by the Islanders, but it's also one that is unlikely to pay off.

Isles Kabanov Brought Back To AHL

News: Kirill Kabanov was recalled from ECHL Stockton to AHL Bridgeport on Tuesday, according to Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: Kirill Kabanov was demoted in October due to some attitude problems. Apparently, the Isles have been pleased with his performance of late and believe he deserves another chance in the AHL. Kabanov has always had the talent to be an NHL player, but his desire (or lack thereof) has always held him back.

Isles' Kabanov Demoted To ECHL

News: Kirill Kabanov was demoted to the ECHL on Tuesday, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: Kirill Kabanov is loaded with talent but is missing the desire to do all of the little things to make the NHL. The Islanders are hoping this is a wake up call but at this point in time it seems very unlikely that Kabanov will ever reach the NHL with them.

Isles' Kabanov Takes To The Ice

News: Kirill Kabanov (hand) skated with a few other Islanders on Monday, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: Kirill Kabanov suffered a pretty nasty cut from a skate blade on his hand in late October. He is expected to be ready to play shortly. He may get an invite to an abbreviated training camp but is not expected to make the team.

Islanders' Kabanov Suffers Serious Hand Injury

News: Kirill Kabanov underwent surgery Saturday after suffering a large laceration on his hand in an AHL game Friday, the Connecticut Post reports.
Analysis: Kirill Kabanov will be re-evaluated Monday, with no immediate timetable available for his return. The 20-year-old was selected 65th overall by the Islanders in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Isles Like Kabanov's New-Found Maturity

News: Islanders coaches have been impressed with Kirill Kabanov's maturity at the team's prospect camp, reports Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: He has apparently been less boisterous (read: less of a flake) during drills and scrimmages, and contributed in positive ways. He didn't record much offense, but that's OK -- the character stuff is way more important for the Isles than his offense (just yet). He'll produce if he can "fit in." This was a great first step.

Isles' Kabonov Could Be Headed To KHL

News: Kirill Kabanov could be headed to the KHL, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: This not confirmed and Isles GM Garth Snow admitted that it's "news to me". Kirill Kabanov has never played in the NHL but the Isles do have high hopes, he is under contract with the team for three more seasons.

Isles' Kabanov Suffers Concussion

News: Kirill Kabanov suffered a concussion during the game Saturday, according to the Guardian.
Analysis: Kirill Kabanov has yet to play a game for the Islanders but will once again look to make the team next season out of training camp. He does hold some upside, but nothing that should make fantasy owners salivate.

Isles' Kabanov To Play In Sweden

News: Kirill Kabanov has been transferred to Farjestad of the SEL, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: Kirill Kabanov wasn't allowed to play for his junior team as rules state that each team is only allowed a maximum of two foreign players, so off to the Swedish Elite League he goes.

Kabanov Assigned To Juniors

News: Kirill Kabanov cleared waivers and will be assigned to his junior team in the QMJHL, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Kirill Kabanov still has a future with the Islanders, but that future is not this season.

Isles Ink Prospect Kabanov

News: Kabanov has signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Islanders, reports the Canadian Press.
Analysis: Questions remain about the make-up of this talented young man who underwhelmed last season in the Q, scoring 11 goals and 28 points in 39 games. But his talent is undeniable and Isles' general manager Garth Snow must have been impressed enough to ink the kid. He'll be a long shot to make the team out of camp but he could be an important part of the top-six in Long Island in three years time.

Isles' Kabanov Underwhelming In Juniors

News: Kabanov has just 16 points in 22 games since being dealt to Lewiston of the QMJHL, hardly elite numbers.
Analysis: He was traded just two games into this season to the Lewiston MAINEiacs and has not really elevated his game since. The upside for Kabanov is that he's just 18 years old and he has all the talent in the world, so he's got time to get right, but all the talk about his father's negative influence certainly hasn't been silenced by his play on the ice.

Isles Kabanov has been Traded from One Junior Team to Another

News: Kabanov was traded within the QMJHL, according to Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: This trade had been rumored to be coming and is yet another wakeup call to Kabanov. Moncton was giving him a second chance after numerous problems with Kabanov, but they gave up on him, as he was traded for four draft picks.

Isles Kabanov Expected to re-join QMJHL Team on Saturday

News: Kabanov is expected back with his QMJHL team Saturday, according to Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: Kabanov had been in Russia for the past two weeks attending a personal matter. The Isles' third-round pick has potential, but can be a head case, which is why he slipped into the third round. He has already been disciplined twice by the Isles for showing up late to practice during camp, and somehow we doubt that this is the last we will hear of Kabanov.

Kabanov Has Yet to Return to the Islanders Organization

News: Kabanov (personal) has yet to return to his junior team, according to Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: Kabanov left for Russia approximately two weeks ago. No details about the reason he left have been released, but it's safe to say he was supposed to have returned by now. There are also rumors that he may be traded within the QMJHL but that would seem unlikely until he returns to North America.
