Canucks Send Down Markstrom

News: Jacob Markstrom was reassigned to AHL Utica on Thursday, Irfaan Gaffar of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: With Ryan Miller (knee) healthy enough to back up Eddie Lack for Thursday's game against the Coyotes following a six-week absence, Jacob Markstrom will head back to the minors to see more frequent duty. Markstrom didn't receive much use during his stay with the big club, posting a 1-1-0 record, 3.08 GAA, and .879 save percentage over his three appearances.

Canucks' Markstrom Makes 26 Saves In Win

News: Jacob Markstrom stopped 26 of 27 shots in Sunday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: A great performance from Jacob Markstrom, who was making his first start since early-March. With Ryan Miller (knee) sidelined, Markstrom has taken on the backup role behind Eddie Lack. While the 25-year-old likely won't see much more action this season, he's been dominating in the AHL and could be one to keep an eye on in the coming years.

Canucks' Markstrom Slated To Play Sunday

News: Jacob Markstrom is slated to start Sunday's road game against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Recalled by the Canucks in late February in the wake of Ryan Miller's long-term knee injury, Jacob Markstrom made just his second appearance in a little less than a month Thursday against the Blue Jackets, stopping both shots he faced while relieving a struggling Eddie Lack in the team's 5-2 loss. The outing was one of Lack's worst efforts of the season, but it won't do much to loosen his grip on the regular starting gig, as he's been mostly dependable since filling in for Miller. As a result, expect Markstrom's workload to remain minimal the rest of the way, as Sunday's starting appointment looks to be only a measure to get Lack some rest during the Canucks' weekend back-to-back set. While Markstrom's season-long value is thus limited, the 25-year-old should at least make for an appealing streaming option, given that the Coyotes currently sit 29th in the league in goals per game.

Canucks Recall Markstrom

News: The Canucks recalled Jacob Markstrom on Monday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: With Jacob Markstrom on the way to the big club to back up Eddie Lack, the Canucks have assigned fellow goaltender Joacim Eriksson to AHL Utica.

Canucks Reassign Markstrom To Minors

News: Jacob Markstrom was reassigned to AHL Utica on Friday.
Analysis: Coach Willie Desjardins said the Canucks made the transaction to provide Jacob Markstrom with an opportunity to "get a few games in." The Canucks have been riding Eddie Lack heavily while Ryan Miller remains on injured reserve, leaving little chance for Markstrom to pick up ice time and keep sharp. Markstrom will likely rejoin the Canucks at some point next week, but until then, Joacim Eriksson will serve as the team's backup goalie.

Canucks' Markstrom Yanked Early Tuesday

News: Jacob Markstrom gave up three goals on the first four shots he faced and was pulled less than eight minutes into Tuesday's loss to the Sharks.
Analysis: Yikes, that's about as ugly a season debut as you can have. The only way this could have been worse is if he hadn't made a save at all. Once considered one of the league's top goaltending prospects, Jacob Markstrom has struggled mightily at the NHL level, but has stud-caliber numbers in the AHL. Maybe it's a mental thing.

Canucks Tap Markstrom For Season Debut Tuesday

News: Jacob Markstrom will be between the pipes for Tuesday's game against the Sharks, Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Coach Willie Desjardins suggested that Jacob Markstrom was on tap for his season debut with the Canucks in the near future, and it appears that will come Tuesday, as Eddie Lack gets a rare night off. A former top goalie prospect during his days in the Panthers organization, Markstrom saw his stock fall after rough showings in the AHL over the last two seasons. After landing with the Canucks last March as one of the pieces in the Roberto Luongo deal, Markstrom passed through waivers unclaimed following training camp and has since thrived at AHL Utica, going 17-7-2 with a 1.95 GAA and .932 save percentage. If he's able to keep the momentum going against a possible playoff team in the Sharks, Markstrom could have a legitimate case for more frequent outings.

Canucks To Recall Markstrom

News: Jacob Markstrom will be recalled by the Canucks on an emergency basis Monday, Ellitote Friedman of Hockey Night in America reports.
Analysis: Jacob Markstrom will be recalled to back up Eddie Lack, as Ryan Miller was sent back to Vancouver to undergo an MRI for an injury he sustained Sunday. The 25-year-old netminder has been great with AHL Utica this season, posting a 17-7-2 recorfd with a 1.95 GAA and .932 save percentage, and could see his first NHL action of the season if Miller's injury costs him an extended period of time.

Canucks' Markstrom Clears Waivers, Heads To AHL

News: Jacob Markstrom cleared waivers Saturday at noon and will now head to the AHL Utica Comets.
Analysis: Wow -- has he really fallen this far? A few teams were rumored to be interested in him, but nothing materialized. The 24-year-old will likely be frustrated, so it will be interesting to follow the arc of this story over the next few months. But suffice to say his single-year value has plummeted.

Canucks Put Markstrom On Waivers

News: The Canucks have placed Jacob Markstrom on waivers, News 1130 reports.
Analysis: Jacob Markstrom, who was traded to the Canucks alongside Shawn Matthias in exchange for Roberto Luongo at the 2014 trade deadline, dropped on the Canucks' depth chart following the team's offseason signing of veteran goalie Ryan Miller. Markstrom was the clear man out, with promising youngster Eddie lack primed to take over Canucks' starting goaltending duties in the future. Markstrom, the 24-year-old Swedish prospect, went 1-2-0 in four appearances with the Canucks in 2013-14, recording a .868 save percentage and 3.00 GAA. It's likely a team takes a gamble and picks him up off waivers.

Canucks' Markstrom Hopes For Trade

News: In the wake of the team's addition of Ryan Miller, Jacob Markstrom has reportedly asked the Canucks to try to trade him, the Province reports.
Analysis: To that end, the Canucks (who also roster fellow goalie Eddie Lack) are looking into the trade market for Jacob Markstrom, with the report suggesting that there is interest from at least three teams. "We're exploring that for Jacob," GM Jim Benning noted. "But if that doesn't happen, Jacob comes to camp. He has a good attitude. He understands the situation."

Canucks' Markstrom Earns First Career Win

News: Jacob Markstrom stopped 21 of 22 shots for his first career win as the Canucks beat the Flames, 5-1, on Sunday.
Analysis: Acquired in the trade for Roberto Luongo, Jacob Markstrom started three straight games down the stretch before notching his first win in the season finale. Touted as one of the best goalie prospects just a few years ago, Markstrom is getting a chance to establish himself at the NHL level. He will split duties with Eddie Lack next year.

Analysis: Jacob Markstrom, who will start for the third straight game, is looking for his first NHL win since Oct. 11.

Markstrom Battered In Canucks' Loss

News: Jacob Markstrom allowed five goals on just 22 shots (.773) in Saturday's loss at Edmonton.
Analysis: He may eventually develop into a valuable fantasy asset; after all, he's just 24. But his ruinous composite numbers (3.58, .867) this season suggest that he isn't a good investment yet.

Canucks' Markstrom To Start Again Saturday

News: Jacob Markstrom will start again on Saturday following his Canucks debut on Thursday.
Analysis: Jacob Markstrom allowed three goals on 27 shots on Thursday. Although his Canucks debut wasn't overly impressive, he will look for a better outcome on Saturday when he takes the ice.

Markstrom Mediocre In Canucks Debut

News: In his first start for Vancouver after being traded for Roberto Luongo at the deadline, Jacob Markstrom surrendered three goals on 27 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Avalanche. The fourth was an empty-netter by John Mitchell.
Analysis: While it's too little, too late for the Orcas this season, Jacob Markstrom has every incentive to prove he's worthy of supplanting Eddie Lack for the starter's gig next year. The 6-6 Swede is hardly to blame for either of Paul Stastny's goals or Tyson Barrie's nifty toe-drag wrister that beat him for the game-winner, but owners certainly won't be happy with his .889 save percentage and loss in his Canucks' debut. Between Florida and Vancouver, Markstrom is now a horrendous 1-6-3 with a .874 save percentage and 3.52 GAA this season. He is slated to start the final two games of the campaign -- both against equally dismal opponents in the Oilers and Flames -- so look for Markstrom to show some resiliency and make the most of his auditions.

Vancouver To Start Markstrom On Thursday

News: Jacob Markstrom will be between the pipes Thursday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: After watching Eddie Lack make the previous 20 starts for the Canucks, Jacob Markstrom will make his first start with his new club Thursday. He's expected to get the starting nod for the final two games as well, making him a good addition the rest of the way in leagues that start multiple goalies.

Canucks' Markstrom Likely To Play Final Games

News: Jacob Markstrom is likely to start the final three games of the season, according to coach John Tortorella.
Analysis: Torts has claimed the "young guys" will play the final three games of the season -- Jacob Markstrom included. The 24-year-old has barely seen any action in the Canucks' crease, as Eddie Lack has made 19 straight starts. Since coming over in a trade from Florida, Markstrom has only appeared once for Vancouver, relieving an ineffective Lack and allowing one goal on five shots in a 6-1 loss to Dallas on March 6.

Markstrom Makes Canucks Debut

News: Markstorm made his first appearance in a Vancouver uniform on Thursday, coming on in the third period for an ineffective Eddie Lack and allowing one goal on five shots in a 6-1 loss to Dallas.
Analysis: With the Canucks unable to win for Lack recently, it wouldn't be surprising to see the team turn to Jacob Markstrom against Calgary on Saturday, just to try to change up the juju. However, despite his excellent potential, Markstrom's just 1-6-3 with an .872 save mark at the NHL level this year, so it's not likely he's going to displace Lack anytime soon.

Panthers Trade Markstrom To Vancouver

News: Jacob Markstrom was dealt to the Canucks on Tuesday in the blockbuster Roberto Luongo trade, Dan Tencer of 630 CHED reports.
Analysis: The Canucks will exchange their goalie of the present in Luongo for a viable goalie of the future in Jacob Markstrom. The 24-year-old will probably have to settle for a backup role behind Eddie Lack for the rest of this season, but he could have a legitimate chance at settling into a starting role down the line. Markstrom disappointed in limited action with the Panthers earlier this season, going 1-6-3 with a 3.52 GAA and .874 save percentage.

Panthers Send Markstrom Down To AHL

News: Jacob Markstrom has been sent down to AHL San Antonio, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Jacob Markstrom was called up when Tim Thomas went down with a lower body injury early in December. He had one start in his brief callup and got lit up for five goals on 32 shots against the Jets on Dec. 20.

Markstrom Lit Up In Panthers Loss

News: Jacob Markstrom gave up five goals on 32 shots in the Panthers' 5-2 loss to the Jets on Friday night.
Analysis: It was a disappointing night for Jacob Markstrom, who was given the opportunity to extend the team's five-game winning streak instead of the red-hot Scott Clemmensen. Markstrom has been abysmal this season with a 3.52 goals-against average and .874 save percentage. He will surely be sent down to AHL San Antonio once Tim Thomas is cleared to return.

Panthers Turn To Markstrom On Friday

News: Jacob Markstrom will start between the pipes for Friday's game against the Jets.
Analysis: Jacob Markstrom will make his first start in net for the Panthers since his most recent call-up. He has started 11 games for the Panthers this season, going 1-5-3 with a .877 save percentage and 3.36 GAA. He will look to rebound in his start Friday against the Jets.

Panthers Recall Markstrom

News: The Panthers recalled Jacob Markstrom from AHL San Antonio on Thursday.
Analysis: Jacob Markstrom has played in 11 games this season, amassing a record of 1-5-3. He'll need to improve on his .877 save percentage and 3.36 GAA if he wants to stick around this time.

Panthers Send Markstrom Down TO AHL San Antonio

News: The Panthers have sent Jacob Markstrom down to San Antonio of the AHL, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Jacob Markstrom has given up eight goals in his last two games and is 1-5-3 with a 3.36 GAA and just an .877 save percentage over 11 appearances (eight starts) this season.
