Canes' Nash Signs One-Year Deal

News: Riley Nash signed a one-year, $1.15 million contract with the Hurricanes on Wednesday.
Analysis: Riley Nash and the Hurricanes looked as though they could be headed for a parting of ways after Carolina declined to extend him a qualifying offer, but it appears the team may have been able to save some money by letting him go through the unrestricted free agency process. The 26-year-old compiled eight goals and 25 points in 68 games a season ago, and could see time on the Hurricanes' third line in 2015-16.

Carolina Lets Nash Walk

News: Riley Nash wasn't extended a qualifying offer by the Hurricanes on Monday and will become an unrestricted free agent, James Mirtle of TSN 1050 AM reports.
Analysis: A former first-round selection in 2007, Riley Nash's first two full seasons in the NHL qualified as disappointments after he managed only 49 points across 141 games, but it's somewhat surprising the Hurricanes are electing to cut bait on him already. The 26-year-old didn't have the luxury of playing alongside much talent, so perhaps another organization with more resources on the wing can help him unlock some potential.

Canes' Nash Practices Friday

News: Riley Nash (concussion) practiced Friday in a non-contact capacity, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: It amounts to a positive step forward for Riley Nash, but not significant enough to allow for a return to the lineup Saturday against the Flyers. Nash will need to receive clearance for contact in practices over the next couple of days to have a shot at suiting up again before the season comes to a close next weekend.

Hurricanes' Nash Dealing With Concussion

News: Riley Nash is dealing with a concussion, NHL.com's Michael Smith reports.
Analysis: Riley Nash, who was hit around the ear with a puck during warmups on Sunday, will miss Tuesday's game against the Caps, at a minimum, and with the Hurricanes out of playoff contention, look for the team to proceed cautiously with the 25-year-old forward.

Hurricanes' Nash Sidelined

News: Riley Nash, who was a late scratch for Sunday's game, after a puck struck his helmet in warmups, won't play Tuesday against the Caps.
Analysis: Riley Nash -- who has 25 points in 68 games to date -- did not make the trip to Washington for Tuesday's game, which suggests that he's probably iffy for Thursday's road contest against the Panthers as well.

Canes' Nash Suffers Head Injury

News: Riley Nash missed Sunday's game against the Bruins, after a puck hit him in the head during warmups, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Riley Nash was likely evaluated for a concussion, and he may not be available for Tuesday's game in Washington. He was a healthy scratch for three consecutive games earlier this month, but Sunday's absence ended a four-game streak in the lineup.

Canes Scratch Nash Again

News: Riley Nash will be a healthy scratch for Thursday's game against the Canadiens.
Analysis: Riley Nash heads to the press box for a third straight game, as the team currently considers Eric Staal, Jordan Staal, Victor Rask and Jay McClement its top four centers. While one of the Staal brothers could be moved back to the wing to accommodate Nash's return, a lineup shakeup doesn't seem imminent. Nash had only produced one goal and three assists over the last 15 games.

Nash Slipping Down Canes' Depth Chart

News: Riley Nash skated just 11:24 Saturday against the Islanders, the lowest amount of ice time he's seen all season. He finished the game with zero points, a minus-1 rating and just a single shot on goal.
Analysis: Riley Nash continues to skate with Jeff Skinner and Elias Lindholm, however based solely on ice time, the trio has effectively been bumped down to third-line status. Nash was seeing as much as 18-19 minutes earlier in the season, including 2-3 minutes on the power play, however those days appear to be long gone. With just five points in his last 20 games, including a three-game stint as a healthy scratch, Nash does not make for an attractive fantasy play outside of very deep leagues.

'Canes To Scratch Nash For Second Straight

News: Riley Nash is expected to be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Sharks.
Analysis: It would mark his second consecutive scratch for Riley Nash, who had just one point over his previous eight games. The youngster's banishment to the press box won't last forever, but if he fails to get going quickly upon rejoining the lineup, he could soon be ticketed for a return to AHL Charlotte.

Scoring Drought For Canes' Nash

News: Riley Nash has just a single assist in his last seven games.
Analysis: After scoring a goal in back-to-back games for the first time this season earlier this month, Riley Nash has gone stone cold since then. What's worse, he has failed to register a single shot on goal in four of the past six games. Bottom line, Nash is doing nothing to justify any meaningful fantasy value right now. He should not be on anyone's roster outside of ultra-deep leagues.

Canes' Nash Gets Goal In Win

News: Riley Nash potted a goal, attempted four shots, and finished with a plus-2 rating over 16:27 of ice time Thursday against the Sabres.
Analysis: The sound performance was needed for Riley Nash, who had been limited to just two points over his last 20 games. The Hurricanes attempted to stimulate Nash's production by slotting him between Jeff Skinner and Alexander Semin on Thursday, and if that arrangement continues, the center could regain some value in deeper formats.

Riley Nash

Hurricanes' Nash Struggling Offensively

News: Riley Nash failed to register a point Thursday against the Maple Leafs, the 10th time in the last 11 games he has been held pointless.
Analysis: Riley Nash has gone ice cold offensively in the last three weeks after notching three goals and eight assists in his first 14 games. Part of the problem is that Nash has been demoted from centering the second line to the third line, meaning he's no longer seeing the same opportunities to contribute offensively. Correspondingly, his ice time has also fallen off, from 18 to 19 minutes per game to the 15- to 16-minute range. For the time being, Nash does not hold the same fantasy appeal he did back in October and November, so feel free to look for other more viable options for your lineup.

Hurricanes' Nash Exits Friday With Apparent Injury

News: Riley Nash exited Friday's game following a collision with Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Head coach Bill Peters did not comment on Riley Nash's status following Friday's game, so it remains to be seen what type of setback he is dealing with, and if he is in any danger of missing Carolina's next game Saturday. Expect an update on Nash's status as more details become available.

Canes' Nash Nabs Two Helpers

News: Riley Nash picked up a pair of assists in Saturday's loss to the Avalanche.
Analysis: Riley Nash has been a pleasant surprise this season, collecting four goals and 15 points in 20 games. Centering the second line and playing on the power play, Nash will almost certainly surpass the career-high 24 points he recorded in 2013-14. He has been one of the Hurricanes' best players this season, leading the team in scoring. The 25-year-old is the real deal, so give him a look if he's available.

Two Points For Hurricanes' Nash In Loss

News: Riley Nash scored his fourth goal of the season and added an assist in Saturday's loss to Washington.
Analysis: Riley Nash has impressed lately, recording two goals and five points in his last five games. He is finding terrific success on the second line alongside Elias Linholm, and is up to 10 points in 13 games on the season. The 25-year-old should easily surpass the career-high 24 points he recorded in 2013-14.

Canes' Nash Stays Hot With Goal

News: Riley Nash added a goal in 18:54 worth of ice time in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Riley Nash has now recorded a point in four of the team's last five games, and is one of the few players in Carolina enjoying early season success. With eight points through 11 games and time on the power play unit, Nash is worthy of consideration in deeper leagues.

Canes' Nash Enjoying Early Season Success

News: Riley Nash scored a goal during Friday's 6-3 loss to Edmonton - his fifth point in seven games so far this season.
Analysis: Despite the struggles of the still-winless Hurricanes, Riley Nash has been one of the lone bright spots on the team thus far. With injuries to Eric Staal (upper body) and Jordan Staal (broken leg), Nash has been seeing roughly 18 minutes a night as the team's first-line center, and so far he's been taking advantage of the opportunity. Nash is likely to come back to earth at some point, but fantasy owners in deep leagues may as well enjoy the hot streak while it lasts.

Sabres' Nash Grabs Two Points

News: Riley Nash earned a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: Riley Nash saw huge minutes in this one -- 21:20, second only to Elias Lindholm among Carolina forwards. It looks like the 'Canes are prepared to sink a lot of faith into him with Jordan and Eric Staal both hurting, though Eric should be back soon, pushing Nash to the third line.

Canes' Nash Moving From Third To Second Line

News: Riley Nash is the Canes' first option to take over the No. 2 center spot in place of the injured Jordan Staal, according to Luke DeCock of the Raleigh News & Observer.
Analysis: This is a great opportunity for Riley Nash to finally be used in more of a scoring role after playing primarily as a checking line center the last few years. So far in the preseason, he has been skating on a line with Elias Lindholm and Jeff Skinner, two of the Canes' more skilled wingers. If this combination sticks, Nash could be primed to take a big step forward this season. At this point, he's worthy of a late-round sleeper pick selection in deeper drafts.

Canes' Nash Promoted To Second Line In Preseason

News: Riley Nash will center the second line between Jeff Skinner and Elias Lindholm in the Canes' first preseason game Sunday against Columbus, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: This looks to be a temporary assignment for now, as coach Bill Peters has decided to rest Eric Staal against the Jackets, meaning second- and third line centers Jordan Staal and Riley Nash move up in the pecking order. Once the regular season begins, Nash is more likely to be back centering the third line with the likes of Nathan Gerbe and either Patrick Dwyer or Zach Boychuk.

Canes' Nash: Four Points In Last Six Games

News: Riley Nash picked up two assists in Saturday's 3-2 OT loss to Columbus. He has four points (one goal, three assists) in his last six games.
Analysis: He's never going to be a high scorer, but he will deliver clutch production in fits and spurts. Unfortunately, that makes him a tough activation in any format.

Canes' Nash: Career-Best Three-Game Streak

News: Riley Nash extended his point streak to a career-best three games (two goals, one assist) with an assist in Saturday's loss to Montreal.
Analysis: He only has 14 points this season, so this run will be short-lived. Wait until after the break to see if he can keep it up. Then drop him into the bottom spot on your roster.

Canes' Nash Supplies Team's Lone Goal

News: Riley Nash snapped in his seventh goal of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Riley Nash scored a goal after going without a point in his last three contests, but is likely too far down the depth chart to have a huge offensive impact moving forward. Unless he's able to put together an impressive stretch of scoring, Nash will likely remain the center on the Canes' fourth line, giving him only a small chance to make noise in the fantasy world moving forward.

Hurricanes' Nash Notches Goal In Victory

News: Riley Nash notched his sixth goal of the season in Saturday's win over the Senators.
Analysis: Riley Nash has yo-yoed in an out of the lineup since returning from injured reserve two weeks ago, but Saturday's tally could allow him to reemerge as a regular for the Hurricanes. However, with just eight minutes of ice time in Saturday's game, Nash's offensive upside remains capped.
