Ex-Sabre Omark Signs With Swedish Team

News: Linus Omark signed with Lulea of the Swedish Elite League on Wednesday, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: After his messy divorce with the Sabres, Linus Omark will retreat to Sweden and may find it difficult to get back to the NHL. He totaled only two points in 13 games for Buffalo before becoming a regular healthy scratch for the league's worst team.

Sabres Officially Terminate Omark's Contract

News: Linus Omark's stint with the Sabres is officially over, reports Sportsnet's Jeff Marek.
Analysis: This is a mere formality, since the Sabres previously announced Linus Omark was placed on unconditional waivers. Both sides mutually agreed to terminate the contract. Omark refused an AHL assignment to Rochester and is believed to be linked to Swedish club Lulea HF. Despite possessing one of the slickest hands in the league, Omark never developed all-round game or showed a willingness to adapt. At 27 years old and with two separate stints, it seems very likely the talented playmaker's career in the NHL is all but over.

Sabres' Omark Placed On Unconditional Waivers

News: Linus Omark was placed on unconditional waivers Monday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: The Sabres will terminate Linus Omark's contract after he declined to report to AHL Rochester following his reassignment last week. He's expected to pursue an opportunity in Sweden once he clears waivers.

Sabres' Omark Linked To Swedish Hockey Club

News: After failing to report to the AHL upon being waived, Linus Omark has been linked to Lulea HF of the Swedish Hockey League, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: Linus Omark spent the first four years of his pro hockey career with Lulea, where he averaged a point per game before moving on to the KHL and the Oilers. Omark has fared much better in Europe during his career, and even though 32 points in 79 career NHL games is a decent output, his poor play in other areas of the game failed to earn him a regular spot. The Sabres owe the Oilers a sixth-round pick if Omark plays 15 games for Buffalo, but that likely won't happen. A risky fantasy option to begin with, Omark won't have any value if he stays in Europe.

Sabres' Omark Does Not Report To Minors

News: Linus Omark did not report to AHL Rochester following his assignment by the Sabres, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Linus Omark cleared waivers Saturday and was assigned to the AHL by the Sabres. He reportedly is on an "Olympic vacation" and will not report to the AHL. He is a native of Sweden and apparently has a desire to play there if he is not at the NHL level. This situation is a work in progress and should be decided relatively soon.

Sabres' Omark Clears Waivers

News: Linus Omark cleared waivers Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports.
Analysis: Linus Omark will now head to AHL Rochester, where he'll be able to play while the Sabres begin their break for the Winter Olympics.

Sabres Waive Winger Omark

News: After 13 games and just two assists, the Sabres have waived Linus Omark.
Analysis: Acquiring the YouTube sensation from Edmonton was already a risky move, and after 13 games the Sabres clearly feel Linus Omark isn't contributing enough. Omark has proven himself to be a capable AHL scorer, but he lacks effort and talent in other areas of the game. The 27-year-old is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and the Sabres are very unlikely to re-sign him.

Sabres' Omark Will Play Monday

News: Linus Omark will draw back into the lineup for Monday's game against Edmonton, reports Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Head coach Ted Nolan is seemingly hoping that deploying Linus Omark against his former team will help elevate the skilled playmaker's game, as he has just two assists in 11 contests this year. He will get plenty of opportunities playing with Tyler Ennis and Drew Stafford, though whether Omark will finish the game on that line remains to be seen. Omark is still looking for his first goal of the season and is a very high-risk, moderate-reward play.

Sabres' Omark To Play Tuesday

News: After sitting out the two previous games, Linus Omark will be back in the Sabres' lineup for Tuesday's game against Florida, reports Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: Since arriving from Edmonton, the skilled playmaker has just one assist in nine games and has failed to help jump-start the anemic Sabres power play. He'll see a chance to produce alongside Buffalo's top players in Steve Ott and Cody Hodgson, but there are few guarantees here. The Sabres have lost their last two games via shootout, and having the YouTube sensation in the lineup would've helped. Linus Omark will get an audition with coach Ted Nolan mixing things up, but there's no telling how long he'll last.

Omark To Be Sabres' New Point Man

News: Linus Omark was used on the point on the power play against Washington on Sunday, and will stay there for the time being, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Head coach Ted Nolan is trying something different to jump-start the Sabres' 28th ranked power play, with Linus Omark playing the point on the second unit with Brayden McNabb. The Swedish winger has incredible hands, but doesn't always make good decisions with the puck. Omark played the point for the Oilers in the past, but even with the amount of talent on that team, they were never consistently dangerous with the man advantage. Nolan is rolling the dice here, but there's not much to lose for the league's worst team. Roll the dice in fantasy if you desperately need some power play points, but, as always, be wary of his plus-minus. He is minus-24 in 74 career NHL games.

Sabres' Omark Will Play Saturday

News: After missing the previous game with the flu, Linus Omark will be making his Sabres home debut Saturday night, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: Linus Omark will skate with Marcus Foligno and Ville Leino, both who are struggling to produce points this season. Omark is a YouTube sensation with incredibly deft hands, but his play without the puck has always been far below NHL standards. Leino and Omark presents some interesting possibilities on offense for creativity, but neither are playing much under interim head coach Ted Nolan. The Sabres took a risk with Omark and it hasn't paid off yet. Until Omark and the Sabres start scoring more often, he has very minimal fantasy value.

Sabres' Omark Set To Play Friday

News: Linus Omark (illness) was back on the ice for morning skate and should be available Friday vs. the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Linus Omark was one of four Sabres players to miss Monday's overtime victory over the Coyotes on account of the flu. Each of the skaters was back on the ice for the morning session and all look to be fully recuperated following the three-day break in the NHL schedule for Christmas.

Sabres' Omark Out Monday With Flu

News: Linus Omark (flu) will not play Monday against the Coyotes, Tom Callahan of 102.5 The Game reports.
Analysis: He's one of approximately four Sabres players that are dealing with flu-like symptoms at the moment. Johan Larsson was recalled from AHL Rochester to take his spot in the lineup Monday.

Sabres' Omark To Join Parent Club Immediately

News: Interim coach Ted Nolan said Linus Omark would join the Sabres immediately after he was acquired Thursday from the Oilers for a 2014 sixth-round draft pick, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: The 26-year-old has already shown some ability as a reasonably productive scorer during his previous time at the NHL level, totaling 30 points in 88 games. The Sabres are in dire need of offensive playmakers, and though Linus Omark doesn't project to be a star by any means, he could be able to carve out some sort of regular role with the team.

Oilers Trade Omark To Sabres

News: Linus Omark was traded to the Sabres on Thursday in exchange for a conditional sixth round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.
Analysis: Linus Omark has spent most of the season with AHL Oklahoma City, scoring 14 goals and adding 15 assists in 29 games. He has played in 66 career NHL games with the Oilers but was stuck on the organizational depth chart at forward. He will look for a change of scenery in Buffalo, though it is unclear which level that will be at initially.

Oilers Reassign Omark

News: Linus Omark was reassigned to AHL Oklahoma City on Friday.
Analysis: With Taylor Hall checking out fine in his return to action Thursday, the Oilers will rid themselves of a couple of excess forwards who would benefit from more ice time in the minors. Linus Omark was held scoreless in his lone game with the parent club.

Oilers Recall Omark

News: Linus Omark was recalled from AHL Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Analysis: Linus Omark spent all of last season playing in Switzerland and hasn't appeared in an NHL game since the 2011-12 campaign. His stay in Edmonton is likely to be short-lived with several of the team's forwards slated to return in the upcoming weeks.

Oilers Place Omark On Waivers

News: The Oilers have placed Linus Omark on waivers with the intention of sending him down to AHL Oklahoma City.
Analysis: Linus Omark played well in Switzerland last season, recording 69 points on 17 goals and 52 assists over just 48 games. He will return to Oklahoma City to begin the season, but will likely be on call when help is needed on Edmonton's scoring lines.

Oilers Sign Omark

News: Linus Omark has signed with the Oilers, the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Linus Omark led the Swiss league in scoring last season with 69 points in 48 games. The tough-minded player will provide nice depth for Edmonton this season.

Ex-Oiler Omark Agrees To Deal With Swiss Club

News: Linus Omark has signed a one-year deal with Zug in Switzerland, the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: The undersized Linus Omark struggled last season, scoring just three points in 14 contests. The Oilers weren't inclined to make a large financial commitment to re-sign Omark given the presence of talented young wingers like Magnus Paajarvi, Teemu Hartikainen and Nail Yakupov on the roster. He could get another shot in the NHL with a big season in Switzerland.

Oilers' Likely To Deal Omark

News: Linus Omark is likely to be dealt by the Oilers before the draft, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: This seems to be one of those situations where a change of scenery is needed. Linus Omark has never quite fit in with the Oilers and although the team is expected to extend a qualifying offer before the deadline in June, they will only be using that offer as a tactic to get a draft pick for the youngster.

Oilers' Omark Recalled From AHL

News: The Oilers have recalled Linus Omark from AHL Oklahoma City, the Oilers' official site reports.
Analysis: Linus Omark has played in 18 games with Oklahoma City this year, recording six goals and 10 assists. He has posted 27 points in 56 career NHL games.

Oilers' Omark May Finish Season In Europe

News: Linus Omark (ankle) may finish the season in Europe, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Linus Omark will get the cast off of his ankle on Dec. 29. He doesn't want to spend the rest of the season in the AHL and has an out in his contract that would allow him to play in Sweden.

Oilers' Omark Sidelined Two Months

News: Linus Omark could be sidelined for two months with a broken ankle suffered during an AHL game according to the Edmonton Journal
Analysis: Linus Omark had been somewhat of a disappointment and had been sent to Oklahoma which prompted him to say that he'd rather return to Europe than to play in the AHL. He'll obviously have plenty of time to make that decision while he recovers.

Oilers' Omark assigned to AHL

News: Linus Omark will return to the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL, Oilers' Official Website reports.
Analysis: Linus Omark has played five games this year with the Oilers, adding to last year's 51 game, 27 point contribution to the NHL. He was assigned to the AHL as Colten Teubert was recalled from the Barons.
