Panthers' Pirri Skates Thursday

News: Brandon Pirri (upper body) was a participant in Thursday's morning skate, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri didn't skate with a regular line, so his return to the lineup will not come Thursday against the Blackhawks, his former team. Instead, it appears Pirri will require at least a few more additional days to practice with the team and take further contact before his activation will be more seriously considered.

Panthers' Pirri Placed On IR

News: Brandon Pirri (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, retroactive to Feb. 10, Jameson C. Olive of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said Thursday that Brandon Pirri would miss two weeks after suffering an upper-body injury during Tuesday's game against the Ducks, so it was just a matter of time before this move was made. Tomas Fleischmann and Scottie Upshall, both of whom got off four shots in Friday's loss to Dallas, will be asked to help shoulder more of the load offensively in Pirri's absence.

Panthers' Pirri Ruled Out Two Weeks

News: Coach Gerard Gallant said Thursday that Brandon Pirri (upper body) would be out for the next two weeks, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: It's an untimely setback for Brandon Pirri, who had been in the midst of the best stretch of hockey of his young career. Prior to exiting Tuesday's game against the Ducks with the injury, Pirri had scored six goals over his last eight games, making him one of the more indispensable players in the Panthers' lineup. In Pirri's absence, Tomas Fleischmann and Scottie Upshall will likely be solidified into third-line roles and be tasked with assuming more of an offensive burden.

Panthers' Pirri Out For Two-Game Road Trip

News: Brandon Pirri (upper body) didn't travel with the Panthers for their two-game road trip, which includes stops in Minnesota on Thursday and Dallas on Friday, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri will stay behind in Florida as he attempts to heal up from the upper-body injury he suffered during his first shift in Tuesday's win over the Ducks. Coach Gerard Gallant and the Panthers' training staff will check back on Pirri's condition when the return from the road trip over the weekend, after which a decision on his status for Sunday's home date with the Blues figures to be made.

Panthers' Pirri Leaves With Upper-Body Injury

News: Brandon Pirri left Tuesday's game against the Ducks with an upper-body injury and won't return, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri took the brunt of a collision just 17 seconds into his first shift of the night. The 23-year-old has been arguably the team's hottest player of late with six goals in his previous eight games, so the Panthers can only hope he didn't sustain any sort of serious injury. An update on his condition could come after the game.

Another Pirri Goal Lifts Panthers Over Kings

News: Brandon Pirri scored the game-winning goal with 3:05 remaining in the third period Thursday against Los Angeles -- his sixth goal and seventh point in the last seven games.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri's really come alive for the Panthers, finally realizing the offensive potential that's been smothered by depth-line assignments over the course of his young career. If the team starts giving him more responsibility, look out.

Panthers' Pirri Notches Two Points Tuesday

News: Brandon Pirri registered an empty-net goal and an assist during Tuesday's eventual 4-2 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri has lit the lamp in three straight games and now has five scores in his last six appearances. It's reasonable to expect him to hit some rough patches as a younger player adjusting to different line combinations, but he's a sneaky option with a hot hand.

Panthers' Pirri Pots Goal In Loss

News: Brandon Pirri potted a power-play goal in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri is starting to get on a solid scoring streak with a goal in four of the past five games. He had just three goals on the season before this stretch, coming in a three game span in October, so while the 23-year-old hasn't found the back of the net that often, the goals have been coming in bunches.

Panthers' Pirri Nets Goal In Loss

News: Brandon Pirri scored the team's lone goal in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Canucks.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri hasn't gotten much playing time this season, appearing in just 20 games, and now has four goals and assist. After starting off with four points in his first six contests, the 23-year-old has cooled off considerably as this was his first point since Nov. 26, so there isn't much upside from a fantasy perspective.

Panthers' Pirri With Assist In Debut On The Wing

News: Brandon Pirri notched an assist while playing his first game on the wing, in Wednesday's 1-0 win against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The natural center was shifted to play on the right wing with Nick Bjugstad and Jonathan Huberdeau for Wednesday's game against Carolina. The good news for Brandon Pirri is he is playing on a line that features the two hottest players on the team right now in Bjugstad and Huberdeau, the bad news is we don't know how long it will last. When asked about the new line after the game, coach Gerard Gallant responded with "I loved [the newly formed line] in the first period; I didn't like it much the second and third because there were too many chances against them and they weren't skating the same". If that trend continues, Pirri could easily see himself playing on a bottom six line. For the time being, he should produce some points while playing with his new linemates.

Panthers' Pirri Back For Monday

News: Brandon Pirri (concussion) will return to the lineup Monday against the Wild, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The center has been activated off IR, and Rocco Grimaldi has been sent back to AHL San Antonio to clear a roster spot. Brandon Pirri collected three goals in four games before getting injured early in the season.

Panthers' Pirri On Cusp Of Return

News: Brandon Pirri (concussion) participated in the Panthers' morning skate and could be a lineup option for Saturday's match with the Predators, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: In addition to Brandon Pirri, fellow injured forwards Scottie Upshall and Sean Bergenheim took to the ice. Coach Gerard Gallant was reluctant to say whether any of those players would return to the lineup later in the evening, but Pirri and Upshall in particular seemed to be ready to go. No decision on the status of either player will likely be known until the Panthers take part in their pregame warmup. Unlike Upshall, Pirri would face the added complication of having to be activated from injured reserve, a move that would likely force the team to send Rocco Grimaldi back to AHL San Antonio.

Panthers' Pirri Takes Part In Morning Skate

News: Brandon Pirri (concussion) took part in Tuesday's optional morning skate, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: It would appear that Brandon Pirri is closing in on a return to the lineup, but his activation from injured reserve likely won't come in advance of Tuesday's game against the Kings. Pirri could be back later in the week if everything continues to go smoothly in his recovery from the concussion.

Panthers' Pirri Resumes Skating

News: Brandon Pirri (concussion) skated Wednesday morning, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Since Brandon Pirri has been sidelined for nearly two weeks with a concussion, he likely won't be ready to play until next week at the earliest. While resuming skating certainly represents progress, Pirri will probably need to log multiple full-contact practices before he's activated from injured reserve.

Panthers Place Pirri (Concussion) On IR

News: Brandon Pirri (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Friday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri was already ruled out for Saturday's game because of the concussion, but now will miss at least a week as a result. The Panthers called up Rocco Grimaldi and Vincent Trochek to replace Pirri and Dave Bolland (groin) on the roster while they are on IR.

Florida Places Pirri On Injured Reserve Friday

News: Brandon Pirri has been diagnosed with a concussion and has been placed on injured reserve, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri was making noise for the Panthers having scored three goals in his last three games. The timing of this injury could not have been worse for Pirri considering he only got in the lineup due to an injury to David Bolland. He is considered to be out for at least one week so monitor his status closely.

Panthers' Pirri Has Concussion

News: Brandon Pirri has been diagnosed with a concussion and has been ruled out of Saturday's game against the Flyers, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri provided a goal for the Panthers in their win over the Coyotes on Thursday, but was unable to escape with his health intact. He took a hard hit in the game that didn't result in his initial removal, but tests conducted afterward evidently confirmed the head injury. The Panthers are labeling Pirri as day-to-day for now, but since the timetable on concussions can often last several weeks, the center could land on IR if any symptoms persist.

Panthers' Pirri Held Out Of Practice Friday

News: Brandon Pirri (general soreness) wasn't present at Friday's practice, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri took a hard hit in Thursday's win over the Coyotes and is likely just taking a maintenance day to recover from the soreness he's experiencing. The expectation is that he'll be available for Saturday's tilt with the Flyers, but his status likely won't be officially known until after the Panthers skate that morning.

Panthers' Pirri Scores In Third Straight Game

News: Brandon Pirri scored a game-tying power-play goal in the second period Thursday night against the Coyotes.
Analysis: The goal was Brandon Pirri's third in as many games. He also had four shots on goal and led the team with four hits. Pirri has been a nice surprise for Florida since getting into the lineup, and with few other Panthers showing much on offense, he's a lock to stay in there until his production slows down.

Pirri Scores Again For Panthers

News: Brandon Pirri scored his second goal of the season in a 2-1 OT loss to the Coyotes on Saturday.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri was a healthy scratch for the first four games of the season, but an injury to David Bolland made Florida insert him into the lineup. He has scored two goals in three games since getting the call and considering how Florida is having such trouble scoring, don't expect Pirri to come out of the lineup when Bolland returns from injury.

Panthers' Pirri Picks Up First Point Of Season

News: Brandon Pirri scored a goal on six shots in a 4-3 win over the Avs on Tuesday.
Analysis: After a productive stint in Florida last season, Brandon Pirri has been a healthy scratch in all but two games so far. He replaced Dave Bolland, who's still out with an injury, so he could win his way back into the lineup with more nights like these.

Panthers' Pirri Replaces Injured David Bolland

News: Brandon Pirri saw his first action of the season replacing injured David Bolland.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri did not contribute on the scoresheet but he did have three shots on goal while centring the third line between Sean Bergenheim and Thomas Fleischmann. The 23-year-old center scored seven goals and seven assists in only 21 games for the Panthers last season. Some believed he was a lock to make the starting roster this season, but he has had to wait until the fifth game to make an impression.

Panthers' Pirri Has Yet To Play

News: Brandon Pirri has been a healthy scratch for each of the Panthers' first three games, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri was generally thought to have an inside track to a regular role with the Panthers after totaling 14 points in 21 games with the team last season, but the July signings of Dave Bolland and Derek MacKenzie have pushed him down the depth chart. That being said, with the Panthers still in search of their first win, coach Gerard Gallant could choose to shake up his lines in advance of Friday's game with the Sabres, perhaps allowing Pirri to slot in for his season debut. If that comes to fruition, Pirri may need to stand out right away if he hopes to see the ice with more frequency.

Panthers Ink Pirri To Two-Year Contract

News: Brandon Pirri signed a two-year contract with the Panthers on Wednesday.
Analysis: Brandon Pirri played in 49 games between the Blackhawks and Panthers last season and recorded 25 points (13 goals and 12 assists). He registered 14 of those points after being acquired by the Panthers on March 2. The 23-year-old will look for another productive season in the NHL in 2014-15, and will likely slot in on the third line, as he did last season, barring a change to the roster.

Pirri Scores Again For Panthers

News: Brandon Pirri scored a goal for the fourth time in his last six games Thursday in a victory over Toronto.
Analysis: He's on a point-per-game pace over those six contests, perhaps foreshadowing what could be a big breakout next season. The talent is certainly there.
