Pysyk Inks Two-Year Deal With Sabres

News: Mark Pysyk signed a two-year, $2.25 million contract with the Sabres on Tuesday, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: It's a good deal for the Sabres, as Mark Pysyk is a promising young defenseman who is likely ready to spend most, if not all of the 2015-16 campaign with the big club. He suited up for seven games with Buffalo last season, tallying a total of three points in those contests. He spent most of 2014-15 with AHL Rochester, registering a total of 17 points in 54 games with the team. Despite collapsing during a basketball game late in the season, Pysyk should be ready to go in the fall. His fantasy value is limited due to his inexperience, and the Sabres will lean on Zach Bogosian and Rasmus Ristolainen on right defense instead.

Sabres' Pysyk To Play For AHL Club Friday

News: Mark Pysyk told reporters that he will return to the ice for the AHL Rochester Americans on Friday night, Andrew Peters of TWC News Buffalo reports.
Analysis: Psysk collapsed while playing pickup basketball back in February, and he has not played in a game since. The team believed he would miss the rest of the season, but he'll be back in the lineup Friday as the Americans take on the Utica Comets in the home regular season finale.

Sabres' Pysyk Hoping To Play For AHL Club Friday

News: Mark Pysyk (undisclosed) resumed practicing with AHL Rochester on Tuesday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk collapsed while playing pickup basketball February 28, and though he returned to practice in March, the defenseman suffered a setback and met with doctors for further testing. The extra time off appears to have done the trick for Pysyk, who hopes to practice over the next few days before entering the lineup for Rochester's game Friday. While the episode back in February was surely scary for Pysyk, doctors determined they found nothing abnormal about his condition other than that he was suffering from dehydration. He should be able to continue his hockey career without any further concern.

Sabres' Pysyk Likely Out Until Next Season

News: Updating a previous report, Mark Pysyk will likely sit out the rest of the season for precautionary reasons, reports the Democrat and Chronicle. However, the reason for the collapse Pysyk had Feb. 28 remains undetermined.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk has not played in a game since the incident. While tests have been done on his head and his heart, the young defenseman was still "not feeling well" as of Friday so the organization will likely just take the safer route and keep him out the rest of the way, though we'll note no official decision has been made yet. Hopefully this all passes by and the promising youngster can make his claim to a full-time roster spot in Buffalo come next training camp.

Sabres' Pysyk Likely Out For The Season

News: Mark Pysyk will likely sit out the rest of the season for precautionary reasons, reports the Democrat and Chronicle.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk collapsed in a pickup basketball game on Feb. 28 and has not played in a game since. The former first-round pick travelled to Buffalo last Friday after he said he was "not feeling well" after a skate and an official diagnosis has yet to be made. Though he hasn't been officially ruled out, the Sabres are leaning towards shutting him down for the season with both Buffalo missing the playoffs and AHL Rochester currently on the outside looking in. Pysyk scored three points in seven games for the Sabres and 16 points in 51 games for Rochester. Barring any further setbacks, Pysyk should be a regular for the Sabres for the 2015-16 season.

Sabres' Pysyk Suffers Setback

News: Mark Pysyk, who was expected to play Friday for AHL Rochester, will miss the game after "not feeling well" after skating, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk went to visit doctors in Buffalo on Thursday and there is still no timetable for his return after collapsing during a pickup basketball game on Feb. 28. He has been solid in seven games for the Sabres this season, recording three points. Since the Sabres aren't gunning for a playoff spot, there is no hurry to bring Pysyk back. It would be better to err on the side of caution with such a promising player, so assume Pysyk is unlikely to dress for the Sabres again this season.

Sabres' Pysyk To Meet With Doctor Again

News: Mark Pysyk, who has been practicing with AHL Rochester for the last week after collapsing while playing pickup basketball Feb. 28, is scheduled to meet with doctors in Buffalo on Thursday, Kevin Oklobzija of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk was expected to receive clearance to play shortly after returning to practice, but those plans have been temporarily tabled, as the blueliner indicated he hasn't been feeling well after the sessions. The 23-year-old will likely undergo more tests to examine whether he has any sort of underlying medical concern.

Sabres' Pysyk Returns To Practice

News: Mark Pysyk, who appeared to suffer a cardiac emergency while playing pickup basketball Feb. 28, returned to practice with AHL Rochester on Wednesday, the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk was subjected to extensive testing after the incident, but doctors were unable to identify any abnormalities that might have triggered the episode. The Sabres will still exercise some precaution with Pysyk, who will practice in a non-contact capacity with Rochester for the next week before receiving clearance to return to the lineup no sooner than Mar. 20.

Sabres' Pysyk Still Undergoing Tests

News: Mark Pysyk is still undergoing tests after he collapsed while playing basketball with teammates last Saturday, Rob Sanderson of FOX Sports 1280 reports.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk seems to be progressing well in his recovery, but doctors have yet to determine the cause of the episode. Until doctors are able to glean more information in his evaluations, Pysyk will continue to be held out of practices.

Sabres' Pysyk To Return, But No Date Set

News: Mark Pysyk (heart) will return soon, but will be held off the ice until doctors are sure what led him to collapse during a basketball game, reports Kevin Oklobzija of The Democrat and Chronicle.
Analysis: The good news is that Mark Pysyk has been released from the hospital and is doing fine, but the doctors want to make an official diagnosis before they let Pysyk back on the ice. Hopefully the issue is minor and Pysyk can return to action sooner than later. There's been no return date set for Pysyk but he won't be sitting too long. Consider him day-to-day.

Sabres' Pysyk Released From Hospital

News: Mark Pysyk was released from the hospital late Saturday afternoon and is doing well, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: While playing basketball with some of his Rochester teammates Saturday morning, Mark Pysyk collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, it seems he's OK, though a specific diagnosis has not been provided by the team. The former first-round pick (23rd overall in 2010) has recorded three goals and 13 assists in 51 games with Rochester this season and two goals and an assist in seven games with the NHL club.

Sabres' Pysyk Collapses During Off-Ice Activity

News: Mark Pysyk, who was reassigned to the AHL on Friday, collapsed while playing basketball with a few of his Rochester teammates Saturday morning and was rushed to the hospital, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: According to the report, Mark Pysyk "was fairly alert" at the hospital and displayed "vital signs that were close to normal." Pysyk wasn't known to have any preexisting heart issues, but the episode will likely prompt the team to closely evaluate him over the next couple days to assess his medical records. The 23-year-old had played impressively during his latest stint with the Sabres and was expected to receive another call-up in the near future, but that may have to be delayed after these latest events. There is no timetable for Pysyk's return until an official diagnosis has been made. While everyone is hoping for a speedy recovery for Pysyk, Jake McCabe will be the next man up should the Sabres call up another defenseman.

Sabres' Pysyk Reassigned To AHL Rochester

News: Mark Pysyk was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Friday, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: The sentiment echoed by a few different Buffalo beat writers is that Mark Pysyk, a 2010 first-round draft pick, is easily one of the team's top-six blueliners. In his past three games, Pysyk scored two points and was continually praised by coach Ted Nolan after the games. The question is if Pysyk's demotion is temporary since players like Andre Benoit and Andrej Meszaros could be dealt at the trade deadline. Regardless, it is what it is, though poolies in deep leagues should keep an eye on Pysyk's status.

Sabres' Pysyk Scores Game-Winning Goal

News: Mark Pysyk's second goal of the season, and also his first on this current call-up stint, was the game-winning goal in a 4-2 win over Columbus on Tuesday.
Analysis: Oddly enough, for a player known more for his skating and passing ability has two goals on the year and zero assists. He finished the game with 18:18 TOI, a slight increase from his previous game, and was featured on both special teams units. He also blocked four shots and finished the night with a plus-3 rating. Head coach Ted Nolan said he believes Mark Pysyk is ready for the prime time, and given Pysyk's performances, expect him to play in a few more games.

Sabres' Pysyk Looking For Regular Role

News: With an impressive showing against Nashville after getting called up, Mark Pysyk is looking to lock up a regular spot on the Sabres' blue line, reports The Buffalo News. "I think he's ready," said head coach Ted Nolan on Monday.
Analysis: The 23-year-old defenseman has spent the majority of the season in the AHL where he's been used in all situations and served as team captain for a few games. He played 16:51 against Nashville with two blocked shots, outperforming Jake McCabe, who was called up at the same time. With Tyson Strachan (illness), Mike Weber (upper body) and Nikita Zadorov (suspension) unavailable, look for Mark Pysyk to get a larger role down the road. However, his fantasy value is minimal at this point. He's not an elite offensive defenseman but more a steady, two-way player.

Sabres' Pysyk Recalled To NHL

News: Mark Pysyk has been recalled to the NHL as of Sunday, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: The Sabres are in need of warm bodies because they figure to be without Josh Gorges (lower body), Tyson Strachan (infection), Nikita Zadarov (suspension) and Mike Weber (upper body). Mark Pysyk will add depth to Buffalo until some of these players can return. A steady two-way defenseman, Pysyk doesn't offer much upside in fantasy. He's been a solid player for AHL Rochester, serving as captain for a few games, but his play has been underwhelming in the NHL.

Sabres' Pysyk Reassigned To AHL

News: Mark Pysyk was reassigned to Rochester of the AHL on Thursday.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk has appeared in only four games for Buffalo this season, spending most of the season with Rochester. In 30 games for the Americans, Pysyk has one goal and 10 assists with a minus-seven rating.

Sabres Recall Pysyk

News: Mark Pysyk was recalled from AHL Rochester on Sunday, WGR 550 in Buffalo reports.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk's most recent stint with the Sabres ended with the return of Mike Weber Saturday. His recall from AHL Rochester likely indicates that Rasmus Ristolainen, who was forced from Saturday's contest due to illness, could be in danger of missing at least Monday's game as well. However, his newest visit with the club will probably not be an extended one barring something unforeseen.

Sabres Assign Pysyk To AHL

News: Mark Pysyk was assigned to AHL Rochester on Wednesday.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk was recalled Dec. 21 to add depth along the blue line following multiple injuries. His assignment from AHL likely indicates the return of Mike Weber for Saturday's game, with Tyler Myers also being a candidate to return as well.

Sabres Recall Pysyk

News: Mark Pysyk was recalled from AHL Rochester on Sunday, Bill Hoppe of the Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk has spent the season all with AHL Rochester this season, posting a goal and nine assists with a minus-9 rating in 28 games. He will provide the Sabres with depth along the blue line as the team has multiple guys dealing with injuries.

Sabres' Pysyk Continues Slump

News: The Rochester Americans are struggling with five straight losses, and Mark Pysyk has been noticeably struggling, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk had his training camp cut short and it's really showing with the smooth-skating defenseman struggling to start the season. In Rochester on a conditioning assignment, Pysyk's stay may end up being longer if he doesn't pick up his play. The Sabres are also rotating Andre Benoit, Tyson Strachan and Nikita Zadorov, so there's not much room for him anyway.

Sabres Assign Pysyk To Minors

News: Mark Pysyk (upper body) was assigned to AHL Rochester on Thursday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: It's not clear whether Mark Pysyk's assignment to the minors is for a long-term stay or just as part of a conditioning assignment. Pysyk indicated Thursday that he's been sidelined since the preseason due to a shoulder injury, but it appears he's finally reached the end of his recovery timetable.

Sabres' Pysyk Closing In On Return

News: Coach Ted Nolan said Tuesday that Mark Pysyk (upper body) is "very close" to returning to game action.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk has been out of commission since Sept. 23 with the upper-body injury, but he was able to take part in Tuesday's morning skate, a sign he's almost ready to go. Nolan said that after Pysyk gets some full-contact practice reps in, he'll likely be activated from injured reserve.

Sabres Place Pysyk On IR

News: Mark Pysyk (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Analysis: Mark Pysyk is said to be closing in on a return to practice soon, but it still looks like he'll have to miss a few regular-season games. Since his training camp was abbreviated due to the injury, it wouldn't be a surprise if Pysyk was sent to AHL Rochester for a fairly lengthy rehab assignment once he's cleared to take full contact.

Sabres To Clear Pysyk For Practice

News: Mark Pysyk (upper body) will return to practice "within a week," reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Three spots are still up for grabs on defense and Mark Pysyk is still in the mix despite missing the past week with an upper body injury. The smooth-skating defenseman split the season between the NHL and AHL last year. Though Pysyk lacks size, he is not a physical defenseman, instead using his speed and passing ability to move the puck up the ice. Even if Pysyk makes the team, he has very minimal fantasy value at the moment.
