Rangers' Stepan Having Solid Playoffs

News: Derek Stepan picked up an assist during Wednesday's 2-1 win over Los Angeles in Game 4.
Analysis: More importantly to the team, Derek Stepan swept a puck teetering on the goal line under Henrik Lundqvist's pads to preserve the lead late in the third period. It's amazing that the fourth-year center is even playing, considering he broke his jaw just three weeks ago. Although he had a rough patch against Pittsburgh, Stepan has turned in a solid 15 points in 23 postseason games.

Rangers' Stepan Scores Two In Return

News: Derek Stepan scored a pair of goals in his return to the ice Tuesday against Montreal, but it wasn't enough in a 7-4 loss.
Analysis: Derek Stepan now has a point in six straight games, dating back to Game 6 against Pittsburgh. He was wearing a big -- not to mention bright yellow -- shield to cover his broken jaw for this one, but it didn't seem to limit him at all. Step and the Rangers will look to give up fewer goals and move on to the finals at home in Thursday's Game 6.

Rangers' Stepan Officially In For Game 5

News: Derek Stepan (jaw) will be in the starting lineup for Tuesday's Game 5 against the Canadiens, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: As anticipated, Derek Stepan will reclaim his spot on the first line, centering Rick Nash and Chris Kreider. Though he'll be wearing a full facial shield to protect his jaw, look for Stepan to see his usual ice time as the Rangers pursue their first trip to the Stanley Cup Finals since 1994.

Rangers' Stepan To Partake In Warmups

News: Derek Stepan (jaw) will participate in warmups in advance of Tuesday's match with the Canadiens, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Derek Stepan's participation in warmups would suggest that he's at little risk of missing Game 5 after missing the previous game following jaw surgery. Expect an update on Stepan's status if it turns out he's a late scratch Tuesday.

Rangers' Stepan On Ice For Morning Skate

News: Derek Stepan (jaw) returned to take his normal line rushes in the Rangers' morning skate ahead of Tuesday night's Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Analysis: Derek Stepan was forced to miss Sunday's Game 4 win after undergoing jaw surgery following Game 3, but it appears he very well could return as New York looks to clinch the series Tuesday night. If he's able to play, Stepan will sport a full facial shield to protect his jaw. With that in mind, expect the center's status to be updated closer to game time.

Rangers' Stepan Joining Team In Montreal

News: Derek Stepan (jaw) will accompany the team on its trip to Montreal for Game 5, but remains uncertain to play, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: The broken jaw forced Derek Stepan out of Sunday's Game 4 victory, and it still might take a couple of days before he receives clearance from doctors to absorb contact. The Rangers would certainly benefit from his services, but with the team holding a 3-1 advantage over the Canadiens, there's a decent chance they could overcome Stepan's absence if he's unable to return for the remainder of the series.

Rangers' Stepan (Jaw) Out For Game 4

News: Derek Stepan (jaw) will miss Game 4 on Sunday, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: It's not surprising that Derek Stepan is out for Game 4, as he was just released from the hospital on Saturday night following surgery on his broken jaw. The team hasn't ruled him out for the rest of the series yet, so it's possible he could return at some point before it ends.

Rangers' Stepan (Jaw) Not Practicing Sunday

News: Derek Stepan (jaw) was not on the ice for morning skate on Sunday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
Analysis: While missing morning skate doesn't necessarily mean that Derek Stepan won't play in Game 4, it definitely points toward that outcome. He was released from the hospital on Saturday night after undergoing jaw surgery, but hasn't been ruled out yet for Sunday. His status will become more clear when the team takes the ice for warmups.

Rangers' Stepan (Jaw) Not Practicing Saturday

News: Derek Stepan (jaw) was not on the ice for practice on Saturday, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Derek Stepan's absence isn't really a surprise considering he underwent surgery on Friday to repair the broken jaw he suffered in Game 3. He would be a big boost to the Rangers lineup if he was available on Sunday, but the situation is still cloudy at this point. Derick Brassard did return to the ice for practice, however, and could end up taking Stepan's place in the lineup if he can't go.

Rangers' Stepan Suffers Broken Jaw

News: Derek Stepan, who received a late hit from Montreal's Brandon Prust during Thursday's overtime loss, sustained a broken jaw, according to the New York Post.
Analysis: While Derek Stepan was forced to undergo surgery, no timetable has been revealed yet for his possible return in this series or the playoffs. We should know more soon, while the Rangers are quite steamed about the hit from Prust. Couple Stepan's injury with Thursday's close loss, and this series all of a sudden isn't as much control as it was when the teams left Montreal a few days ago.

Stepan Helps Rangers To Game 2 Win

News: Derek Stepan notched two assists -- one on the power play -- in Monday's Game 2 victory over Montreal.
Analysis: Step's now on a four-game point streak, and four of his six points in that time have come on the power play, which has suddenly come alive for the Rangers. The Blueshirts will continue looking to the 23-year-old center for production as they head home and attempt to put this series away quickly.

Rangers' Stepan Streaking

News: Derek Stepan was a plus-1 with a goal and an assist in a 7-2 rout of Montreal in Game 1.
Analysis: Derek Stepan also won nearly half of his faceoffs as the Rangers dominated the hapless Habs. Steady (57 points in 82 games) as anyone on the roster in the regular season, the team's first line center now has a three-game point streak and has accounted for half (four) of his postseason point total in the last three playoffs games.

Rangers' Stepan Breaks Out of Slump

News: Derek Stepan collected an assist in a Game 7 win over the Penguins on Tuesday.
Analysis: Although the 23-year-old started out with a point in four of the first five playoff games, he slumped through most of the seven game series with Pittsburgh, registering just two points. Since those two points came in a very important Game 6 & 7, I'm sure he'll get a pass for his recent lack of productivity. The fourth year center has six points (two goals) through 14 postseason games.

Stepan Continues Consistency in Rangers' Win

News: Derek Stepan logged an assist in a 4-2 Game 5 win over Philadephia on Sunday.
Analysis: The Minnesota native has at least one point in four of the five games this series and will be counted on offensively throughout the playoffs. Derek Stepan has clearly taken the lead as the team's most consistent point-getter, totaling 61 points through 87 combined regular season and playoff games.

Rangers' Stepan Quietly Consistent

News: Derek Stepan scored a first period goal in Game 3's 4-1 victory over Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Analysis: After hitting a rough patch in late-March, Derek Stepan has registered at least one point in seven of his last 10 contests. During that 10 game span, Stepan is a plus-7 with four goals and six assists

Rangers' Stepan Collects Power-Play Goal

News: Derek Stepan netted a power-play goal in Thursday's 4-1 playoff-opening win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: The goal came on the back end of a four-minute power play and ended up as padding to the Rangers' third-period lead, serving almost as a nail in the coffin. Derek Stepan, who ended the season second (57 points in 82 games) in team scoring, has six goals and nine assists through 38 career playoff games.

Rangers' Stepan Finishing Career Year

News: Derek Stepan registered an assist in Thursday's 2-1 victory over Buffalo.
Analysis: Derek Stepan also won 14 of 20 faceoffs in the win while skating for just under 17 minutes of ice time. The fourth-year center will look increase his career-high 57 points when the Rangers travel to Montreal for the regular-season finale on Saturday.

Rangers' Stepan Scores, Assists In Win

News: Derek Stepan scored a goal, added an assist and went plus-1 in Tuesday's win over Carolina.
Analysis: With six points in his last five games, Derek Stepan just keeps on producing. With 56 points on the year, he's got a shot at his first 60-point season if he can stay hot over the last two games.

Rangers' Stepan Notches Three Helpers

News: Derek Stepan tallied three assists and was a plus-3 against the Oilers on Sunday.
Analysis: Derek Stepan now has 53 points, which is a career high, besting his previous high of 51. He still has a few more games to play as well, and Stepan has never missed a regular season game in his previous seasons.

Rangers' Stepan Healthy

News: Derek Stepan (illness) skated on a line with Martin St. Louis and Rick Nash during Wednesday's morning skate, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: After skating just 7:04 during Monday's win over the Coyotes, it looks like Derek Stepan has effectively kicked the flu bug in advance of Wednesday's game against the Flyers. Stepan currently has 15 goals and 35 assists in 73 games on the season, including four points in his last four contests.

Rangers' Stepan Limited By Flu Monday

News: Derek Stepan (illness) was able to skate just 7:04 in Monday's overtime win against the Coyotes. He recorded no points and went minus-1, but did manage three shots on goal.
Analysis: After mostly taking regular shifts in the first period, Derek Stepan barely played the rest of the way, as the flu he's suffering from was clearly affecting him too strongly. The Rangers welcome the Flyers to town on Wednesday night, and Step will surely be downing plenty of chicken soup to be ready for that game.

Rangers' Stepan Participates In Line Rushes

News: Derek Stepan (illness) took part in line rushes during warm-ups on Monday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: There's still no official word, but we're leaning toward the notion that he'll be in the lineup when the puck drops Monday.

Rangers' Stepan: Game-Time Decision Monday

News: Derek Stepan (illness) will participate in pregame warm-ups Monday night, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Rangers announced late Monday that fellow center J.T. Miller would not be recalled on an emergency basis, signaling that Derek Stepan is likely well enough to suit up. He's still officially a game-time decision at this point, but leaving Stepan in most fantasy lineups seems like a good risk at this point.

Rangers' Stepan Fighting Off Flu

News: Derek Stepan (flu) did not practice and will be a game-time decision for the team's tilt against Phoenix on Monday, reports Andrew Gross of The Record.
Analysis: Obviously, this is nothing to get too concerned about, but considering Derek Stepan's offensive prowess (15 points in 13 games) since returning from Sochi, his teammates, coaching staff and fantasy owners have to be hoping for a speedy recovery. With 50 points through 72 games played, Stepan is just one point shy of tying his career high.

Rangers' Stepan Has Goals In Three Straight

News: Derek Stepan has recorded goals in each of his last three games.
Analysis: With a total of only nine shot attempts over those three games, Derek Stepan's shooting percentage figures to fall to a more sustainable level sooner or later. Still, with 50 points in 72 games this season, Stepan continues to remain highly productive for fantasy owners.
