Rangers' Stepan Adds Two Helpers In Loss

News: Derek Stepan collected two assists in Wednesday's 6-5 OT loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: The center has been red hot lately, racking up eight points in his last six games. He now has five goals and seven assists through 15 playoff games, but will face a stiff test in Game 4 with his team down 2-1 in the series.

Rangers' Stepan: Four-Game, Five-Point Streak

News: Derek Stepan broke a scoreless tie with just 12.7 seconds left in the second period of Saturday's Eastern Conference opener. He picked up a rebound and ripped it past the Lightning's Ben Bishop.
Analysis: Bishop has just lost his stick in a melee at the net when a Rangers shot went off Bolts' defender Andrej Sustr. The puck went right to Derek Stepan, who got rid of it quickly. It was his fourth goal of the postseason and extended his current point streak to four games and five points, including two goals.

Rangers' Stepan Scores OT Winner

News: Derek Stepan buried the overtime game winner in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: The center pounced on a rebound 11:24 into the overtime period, and wristed it past a sprawling Braden Holtby to send the Caps home for the summer. Derek Stepan now has three goals and eight points through 12 playoff games this year, but none bigger than Wednesday's series clincher.

Rangers' Stepan Records Two Assists In Game 5 Win

News: Derek Stepan dished out a pair of helpers in Friday's Game 5 overtime win over the Capitals.
Analysis: While Derek Stepan has yet to score in the second round, the 24-year-old has collected three assists and fired 13 shots on goal. He's recorded six points in these playoffs, which isn't awful, but it's also not mind-blowing. With 35 points (12 goals) in 71 career playoff games, Stepan has never been a big postseason performer, but his clutch assist in overtime Friday could be a sign of things to come.

Rangers' Stepan Scores PP Goal In Game 5 Win

News: Derek Stepan opened the scoring with a power-play marker in Friday's series-clinching Game 5 win over the Penguins.
Analysis: It was the second goal of the playoffs for Derek Stepan, who finishes the first round with three points in five games. The second-line center has looked dangerous this postseason, firing 24 shots on goal and helping the Rangers eliminate the Penguins in five games. New York will be awaiting the winner of the Capitals and Islanders series, so look for the 24-year-old to carry his strong play from the opening round into the second round.

Rangers' Stepan Delivers Two Points In Game 2 Loss

News: Derek Stepan scored his first goal of the playoffs and had an assist in Saturday's Game 2 loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: A good night for Derek Stepan, who was held pointless in Thursday's playoff opener. While the series is now tied 1-1, Stepan has looked dangerous in both contests, firing nine shots on goal. The second-line center is a big piece of the puzzle in New York and will need to continue to deliver if the Rangers hope to make a deep postseason run.

Rangers' Stepan White Hot

News: Derek Stepan netted a pair of goals and an assist in Monday's come-from-behind win over Columbus.
Analysis: Separated by approximately five minutes total game time, the team's best producing center tied the game and scored the game winner with less than a minute remaining in overtime. Derek Stepan also enjoyed a 70-percent win percentages on face-offs while taking six shots on goal in just over 18 minutes of ice time. The Minnesota native, who needs just two points to tie a career high (57 in 2013-14) with three games remaining, has five points in his last two contests.

Rangers' Stepan Helps Out In Win

News: Derek Stepan tallied a pair of assists, a plus-3 rating and a pair of penalty minutes Thursday in a 5-1 victory over Ottawa.
Analysis: That's a couple big games in his last three for Step, who's collected three goals and two assists in that span. He's doing a good job making up the ground he lost while slumping through late February and the majority of March.

Stepan Busts Out Of Slump In Rangers' Win

News: Derek Stepan's three-point (two goals, one assist) effort helped rout the Ducks 7-2 on Sunday.
Analysis: That's a big collective sigh for Derek Stepan and company who hadn't scored more than two goals in a game in almost two weeks. As for the slumping Stepan, it's his first point in 12 tilts and first goal in 15 games. Although the 24-year-old has been alarmingly inconsistent since the beginning of the calendar year, perhaps this can get him moving in the right direction again. The Minnesota native is a plus-19 with 46 points in 57 games played.

Rangers' Stepan Still Struggling

News: Derek Stepan recorded a team-high six shots on goal in Wednesday's 1-0 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Derek Stepan has been struggling lately, so it was good to at least see him getting a lot of chances. Despite his recent cold stretch, the center still has 11 goals and 32 assists in 55 games on the season, so there's reason to believe he'll break through on the scoresheet soon.

Rangers' Stepan Produces Two Assists In Win

News: Derek Stepan contributed two assists and had six shots on goal in Sunday's win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Derek Stepan's absolutely rolling right now, with four of his last five games being multi-point outings. The second-line center now has 43 points and a plus-15 rating in 44 games on the season. He should be rolled with confidence, as his superb consistency makes him one of the more reliable centers in fantasy.

Seven Points In Three Games For Rangers' Stepan

News: Derek Stepan rattled off his third consecutive multi-point effort Thursday, scoring a goal and adding an assist in a shootout loss to Vancouver.
Analysis: That's seven points over the last three games -- with a plus-3 rating and four PIM to boot -- for the highly talented centerman, who's now barely shy of a point-per-game pace now with 41 in 42 on the season. He should clear 60 points for the first time this year despite having missed time to injury.

Rangers' Stepan Collects Three Points In Win

News: Derek Stepan collected a goal and two assists in Monday's 6-5 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Derek Stepan's production dropped a bit as he dealt with the flu, but he's now gathered five points in his last two contests after his two assist game on Saturday. He missed some time at the beginning of the season, but with 39 points in 41 games, the center is just off of a point-per-game pace.

Rangers' Stepan Assists Twice In Win

News: Derek Stepan gathered two assists in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Derek Stepan had been held off the scoresheet while going a collective minus-5 in his previous three games. It's possible his performance had been suffering from his recent return from a bout with the flu, but now that he's a week removed from the illness, his production could begin to take off again.

Rangers' Stepan Will Play Sunday

News: Derek Stepan (illness) will return to the lineup Sunday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Derek Stepan missed Saturday's contest due to the illness, but his return to health was quick enough, as he's back in the lineup Sunday for a matchup with Toronto. The 24-year-old center has 34 points (nine goals, 25 assists) in 36 games this season, and will look to add to his totals against against a porous Maple Leafs defense that's allowing 3.02 goals per game.

Rangers Expect Stepan Back Sunday

News: Coach Alain Vigneault said that he expects to have Derek Stepan (flu) available for Sunday's game against the Stars, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
Analysis: It was announced just a few hours before Saturday's loss to the Predators that Derek Stepan had been dealing with an illness and would be unable to play. Fortunately, it sounds like the worst of Stepan's symptoms could be behind him, but the Rangers probably won't have a firm declaration on the center's status until reevaluating him Sunday morning. The Rangers lost Jasper Fast to a knee sprain Saturday, and with Stepan's status also unclear, don't be surprised if the team calls up a forward from AHL Hartford prior to Sunday's match.

Rangers' Stepan Out With Flu Saturday

News: Derek Stepan (flu) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Predators, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Derek Stepan didn't even take part in warmups for the Rangers, so he'll presumably rest up at the team hotel as he looks to nurse himself back to full health. The Rangers will likely check back on his condition Sunday morning before determining if he'll be fit to play later that evening against the Stars. Lee Stempniak will join the lineup in place of Stepan on Saturday.

Rangers' Stepan Ill, Doubtful To Play Saturday

News: Coach Alain Vigneault said that Derek Stepan is dealing with the flu and is "less than 50-50" to play Saturday against the Predators, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: It sounds like Derek Stepan might have woke up feeling ill, as there was no indication at Friday's practice that he was under the weather. With Saturday's game kicking off at 3:00 ET, it's difficult to envision Stepan returning to full strength by that time. His status should be officially clarified during pregame warmups, with Lee Stempniak expected to assume Stepan's lineup spot.

Rangers' Stepan Enjoying Terrific Season

News: Derek Stepan logged an assist in Monday's 6-3 win over Florida.
Analysis: Despite logging his first point in three games, the 24-year-old center is enjoying his best season to date, with a near point-per-game pace (33 points in 35 games). If you're lucky enough to own him, start with confidence nightly.

Rangers' Stepan Pots Two In Win

News: Derek Stepan netted a pair of goals in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Derek Stepan's getting into a bit of a groove as he's now recorded a multi-point effort in consecutive games and in five of his last 10 contests. He missed time at the beginning of the season, but the 24-year-old is now at a better than point-per-game rate with 31 through 30 contests and should be continued to be counted on to keep producing.

Rangers' Stepan Dishes Out Two Assists

News: Derek Stepan dished out a pair of assists in Friday's win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: If you're having passing problems, Derek Stepan feels bad for you son...Stepan's got 99 problems, but his sauce ain't one. The 24-year-old now has six goals and 23 assists in 29 games, to go with a plus-11 rating. With four multi-point efforts in his last nine outings, the second-line center provides great value in almost all formats. He's money on a Rangers' team that has won nine of their past 13 games. Keep him rolling.

Rangers' Stepan Looks Like A Go On Friday

News: Derek Stepan (upper body) skated with Chris Kreider and Martin St. Louis during line rushes in advance of Friday's game against Columbus, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
Analysis: J.T. Miller was the odd man out in line rushes, so it looks like Derek Stepan -- who was sporting an 'A' on his jersey during warmups -- should be a go Friday night.

News: Derek Stepan (upper body) is a game-time decision for Friday's game against Columbus, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.

Rangers' Stepan Shows Improvement, But Won't Play

News: Derek Stepan (upper body) reported improvement with his injury Thursday, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
Analysis: While he won't suit up for Thursday's game against the Bruins, Derek Stepan has yet to be ruled out for Friday's tilt in Columbus. The Rangers figure to check back in on his condition Friday morning before relaying word on his availability for that night's game.
