Canucks' Tanev Is Overtime Hero Saturday

News: Chris Tanev scored the overtime-winning goal on his birthday in Saturday against the Flames.
Analysis: The 25-year-old now has two goals and eight points in 32 games, to go with a plus-3 rating. While Chris Tanev has been most effective defensively this season, blocking 80 shots and logging 20:49 of ice time, the youngster is still on pace for the first 20-point season of his career.

Canucks' Tanev Stands Out In Win

News: Chris Tanev collected an assist, had a plus-3 rating, and was credited with a whopping eight blocked shots in Sunday's win over Chicago.
Analysis: Quite the night for Chris Tanev, who now has a point in two straight games and is up to six assists in 21 games on the season. While he is yet to score a goal in 2014-15, Tanev is averaging a steady 20:33 of ice time and should break the 20-point barrier for the first time in his career.

Canucks' Tanev Likely to Play

News: Chris Tanev was paired with Alexander Edler during Vancouver's morning skate on Saturday, and appears as though he will likely play in the Canucks' matchup with the Oilers on Saturday night, the Vancouver Province's Ben Kuzma reports.
Analysis: Chris Tanev was questionable to play in Saturday's game after suffering an undisclosed injury during Wednesday's tilt with the Flames, but now it appears as though the defenseman isn't in any danger of sitting out. Fantasy owners should deploy Tanev as they normally would.

Canucks' Tanev Questionable For Saturday

News: Chris Tanev (undisclosed) appears questionable to play Saturday against the Oilers.
Analysis: Coach Willie Desjardins wouldn't shed much light on Chris Tanev's condition, other than stating that the defenseman's status would be decided following Saturday's morning skate. Yannick Weber would fill in on the blue line if it's determined Tanev can't go.

Canucks' Tanev Nursing Injury

News: Chris Tanev sustained an injury during Wednesday's game against the Flames and will be reevaluated later Thursday.
Analysis: Coach Willie Desjardins didn't offer much insight into Chris Tanev's injury, other than saying that he hoped the defenseman would be available for the Canucks' next game Saturday. Tanev tallied two assists in Wednesday's victory.

Canucks' Tanev Picks Up Two Assists In Win

News: Chris Tanev registered a power-play assist and added an even-strength helper in Wednesday's win over Calgary.
Analysis: Chris Tanev had a great game offensively, creating chances and jumping into the play. He was absolutely robbed by Flames' netminder Jonas Hiller on two separate occasions. Tanev did finish the night a minus-2, but he was paired with Alex Edler, who finished the 2013-14 season with the worst plus-minus in the league (minus-39). Tanev is on the rise and should improve on the career-high 17 points he achieved last season.

Canucks' Tanev Solid In Preseason Play

News: Chris Tanev has looked strong in the preseason, making some great defensive plays while also seeing decent minutes on the power play.
Analysis: Chris Tanev skated alongside Alex Edler on Thursday, recording a plus-2 rating in a preseason win over Edmonton. The 24-year-old Tanev isn't expected to turn into an offensive force, but he is likely to improve on the career-high 17 points he recorded in 2013-14. While the thought of Tanev playing with Edler during the 2014-2015 season seems promising, Tanev may be actually be counted on more defensively in that role, with Edler being the one taking risks offensively.

Canucks Ink Tanev (Hand) To One-Year Extension

News: Chris Tanev signed a one-year contract extension with the Canucks on Saturday.
Analysis: Chris Tanev tallied 17 points (six goals and 11 assists) over 64 games for the Canucks in the 2013-14 season, but missed the last month of the season with a broken finger. The 24-year-old should be fine well ahead of the start of next season and will look to increase his career-high point total from last season.

Canucks' Tanev Out 3-4 Weeks

News: Chris Tanev will be out 3-4 weeks with a broken finger.
Analysis: It sounds like a best-case scenario for Chris Tanev, who has recorded 17 points in 64 games to date, is a late-season return for the Canucks, whose regular season slate concludes on April 13.

Canucks' Tanev Leaves Game With Hand Injury

News: Chris Tanev's right hand was in a full wrap and splint after Monday's loss to the Lightning, the Vancouver Province's Jason Botchford reports. Tanev played just 8:04 on Monday before leaving the game and not returning.
Analysis: It's unknown the severity of the injury, or how it occurred, but things aren't looking good. In any case, any form of injury doesn't bode well for the Canucks, who are already without Ryan Kesler (knee), and Daniel Sedin (hamstring). Chris Tanev has 17 points in 64 games this season, leading the team with a plus-12 rating.

Tanev Busy In Canucks' Loss

News: Chris Tanev posted two assists in Friday's 4-3 loss to Washington, giving him three points in the last three games.
Analysis: Chris Tanev is one of the few bright spots for the future in Vancouver and he has been seeing his name on the scoresheet often the last week. He sees little power-play time and likely won't produce at this rate much longer, but he's worth keeping an eye for the future.

Canucks' Tanev Plays 19:44 In Return To Lineup

News: Chris Tanev logged 19:44 of ice time in Friday's shootout loss to the Wild. He made his return to the lineup after missing the past seven games with a thumb injury.
Analysis: "Little bit of rust on Chris Tanev tonight. It'll take a few games to get back in there," said coach John Tortorella. Tanev didn't register a point on Friday, but he did put two shots on goal, and helped out defensively, blocking three shots. He has 14 points in 55 games this season to go alongside a terrific plus-9 rating.

Canucks' Tanev Returns From IR

News: Chris Tanev (thumb) will be activated from injured reserve and will play in Friday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: Chris Tanev went on injured reserve shortly prior to the Olympic break with a broken thumb. He was able to take the time off to heal the injury and was skating with Vancouver's healthy unit in Thursday's practice. He will take the ice in Friday's game against the Wild.

Canucks' Tanev Resumes Practicing

News: Chris Tanev (thumb) joined the Canucks' healthy skaters for practice Thursday, Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Chris Tanev wasn't cleared to return from IR to play in the Canucks' first game out of the break Wednesday against the Blues, but his return to practice suggests he might not be far off playing in games. He'll continue to be monitored while increasing his workload over the next few days before the team updates his status.

Canucks' Tanev Doubtful For Wednesday

News: Chris Tanev (thumb) is not expected to play Wednesday against the Blues.
Analysis: Chris Tanev has been on IR since January with a thumb injury, and probably isn't quite ready to return yet. The blueliner has five goals and nine assists in 54 games this season.

Canucks Move Tanev To IR

News: Chris Tanev (thumb) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Chris Tanev will be out until after the Olympics with a broken thumb, necessitating a roster move by the Canucks to bring an extra defenseman into the fold. While Tanev wasn't an irreplaceable scorer with five goals and nine assists in 54 games, his steady average TOI (20:58) and blocks (112) are likely the areas where his production will most be missed by fantasy owners.

Canucks' Tanev Could Be Out Beyond Olympic Break

News: Chris Tanev suffered a broken thumb and will be out until after the Olympic break, the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: It's uncertain when Chris Tanev first sustained the injury, and the Canucks are not providing an official update on the defenseman's health, but it appears he will be sidelined for some time. While it remains to be seen how long Tanev will ultimately be out, acting head coach Mike Sullivan has already ruled him out for Wednesday's game.

Canucks' Tanev Tallies In Loss

News: Chris Tanev scored his fifth goal of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Chris Tanev has quietly had a solid season, collecting 13 points in 45 games to go alongside a plus-8 rating. His five goals this season tie him with Jason Garrison for tops among Canucks defensemen. The 24-year-old is worth a look in some deep leagues now, and could be valuable in some shallower formats in the future.

Canucks' Tanev Nets Game-Winner

News: Chris Tanev scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over the Jets on Sunday.
Analysis: Chris Tanev now has three goals over his past seven games and has collected 12 points in 39 games on the year. Coach John Tortorella believes Tanev has been the most consistent defenseman on the team this season. Tanev has a plus-9 rating and is averaging 20:15 of ice time per game.

Canucks' Tanev Scores First Of Season

News: Chris Tanev scored his first goal of the season in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Kings on Monday.
Analysis: Chris Tanev has shown some offensive capability this season and he now has eight points on the year. It remains unclear, though, whether the 23-year-old will become a fantasy hockey star one day. He's better known right now for his defensive play, as exemplified by his plus-4 rating on the season.

Canucks' Tanev Picks Up Two Helpers

News: Chris Tanev collected two assists in a 5-4 overtime victory over the Islanders on Tuesday.
Analysis: He may be on the third defensive pairing but he played 21:12 on Tuesday. He is yet to score this season but has five assists through his first 11 games. He is poised to smash his career high seven-point season that he notched last year. He is the defenseman of the future in Vancouver but it will be awhile before he really becomes a difference-maker in fantasy hockey.

Canucks' Tanev Notches First Point Of Season

News: Chris Tanev picked up an assist -- his first point of the season -- in Tuesday's overtime victory over the Devils.
Analysis: The young defenseman is currently playing on the team's third defensive pairing and isn't seeing any power-play time. He has shown great defensive capabilities, but it remains to be seen whether he can become a primary offensive contributor. The potential is there, and he's definitely one to monitor.

Tanev Re-Signs With Canucks

News: Chris Tanev has agreed to a one-year, $1.5M contract extension with the Canucks, Team 1040 reports.
Analysis: After drawing interest from overseas, the 22-year-old RFA defenseman has decided to stay with the Canucks. Chris Tanev registered two goals and seven points through 38 games with the team last season. He is projected to slot in as the fifth or sixth defenseman on the club.

Canucks' Tanev Drawing International Interest

News: Chris Tanev is receiving significant interest from the KHL and the Swiss Elite League, The Province's Jim Jamieson reports.
Analysis: The 23-year-old restricted free agent has yet to reach an agreement on a contract extension with the Canucks. With training camp under a month away, the clock is ticking for Chris Tanev to get a deal done. The young defenseman is just beginning to emerge in the NHL, notching seven points in 38 games with the Canucks last season, but talks have been stuck at a standstill for some time now. If the two sides can reach a deal, Tanev is likely to slot in as the fifth or sixth defenseman.

Canucks' Tanev Still In Walking Boot

News: Chris Tanev (leg) made the trip to San Jose, but is still in his walking boot and remains day-to-day, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: While he was never expected to be ready for the start of the playoffs, it does seem slightly encouraging that he's at least made the trip. It's doubtful that he'll see any on-ice action during these next couple of games, but perhaps there's hope on the horizon somewhere.
