Canucks' Tanev Suffers Setback

News: Chris Tanev (concussion) appears to have suffered a setback in the recovery process, Blake Price of TSN 1040 AM reports.
Analysis: After Chris Tanev participated in practice Saturday, the Canucks were hoping to have him available for Tuesday's game against the Sharks, but those plans were dashed when the blueliner failed to get back on the ice the last two days. The extent of Tanev's setback remains uncertain at this time, but the Canucks have recalled Frank Corrado from AHL Utica in the interim to fill out their blue line.

Canucks' Tanev Practices Saturday

News: Chris Tanev (head) returned to practice Saturday, Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Chris Tanev looked to be a full participant in the session, joining Luca Sbisa as part of a regular pairing. While such involvement would normally indicate his availability for the Canucks' game Sunday against the Blues, Tanev said after the workout that he would "probably not" be able to play in the contest. Assuming that holds true, Tanev's next chance to play would come Tuesday against the Sharks.

Canucks' Tanev Resumes Skating

News: Chris Tanev (upper body) resumed skating back in Vancouver on Wednesday, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 AM reports.
Analysis: Chris Tanev isn't traveling with the Canucks on their road trip and won't have a shot at playing until the team returns home for a Mar. 1 tilt with the Blues. More likely, though, he'll probably need a few days beyond that date in order for him to pick up some practice time with the rest of the team.

Canucks Place Tanev On IR

News: The Canucks placed Chris Tanev (undisclosed) on injured reserve over the weekend.
Analysis: The team was in need of an extra forward for Sunday's game against the Islanders, so Chris Tanev was placed on IR to facilitate the call-up of Nicklas Jensen from AHL Utica. Tanev has been out since Feb. 14 with the injury, so he'll be eligible to return to action as soon as the Canucks feel he's fully healthy.

Canucks' Tanev Likely Out For Five-Game Road Trip

News: Chris Tanev (undisclosed) didn't travel with the rest of the team to New York for the beginning of the Canucks' five-game road trip, Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: While it's still plausible Chris Tanev could join the team at some point in the trip, it's more likely that's he's not viewed as especially close to a return. Expect the team to provide more information regarding the nature and extent of his injury in the coming days.

Canucks' Tanev (Undisclosed) Will Not Play Monday

News: Chris Tanev (undisclosed) will be unavailable for Monday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: Chris Tanev is dealing with an undisclosed injury and will sit out Monday after seeing 22:35 of ice time in Saturday's loss to Calgary. The defenseman has a pair of assists this month but has not scored a goal since mid-December. He's officially listed as day-to-day and should be considered questionable for Thursday's contest.

Canucks' Tanev (Undisclosed) A Game-Time Decision

News: Chris Tanev (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision for Monday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: Chris Tanev missed each of the past two games due to the undisclosed injury, but was a game-time decision for Saturday as well. The blueliner has totaled two goals and 11 assists over 49 games this season, but has been a huge factor on the defensive end, blocking 122 shots and sporting a plus-10 rating on the season.

News: Chris Tanev (undisclosed) will not play Saturday against the Penguins.

Canucks' Tanev Back On Ice

News: Chris Tanev (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision Saturday against the Penguins.
Analysis: After missing Thursday's game against the Sharks along with Friday's practice, Chris Tanev was able to get back on the ice Saturday morning. It's unclear how much involvement Tanev saw during the session, so his availability will likely remain a question mark up until pregame warmups. If Tanev ends up being ruled out, Yannick Weber would join the lineup in his stead.

News: Chris Tanev (undisclosed) will not play Thursday against the Sharks, Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Chris Tanev wasn't present for the Canucks' morning skate, signaling that he may have suffered an injury in Tuesday's win over the Jets. He should be considered day-to-day until more information is provided on his condition. Tanev will be replaced in Thursday's lineup by Yannick Weber.

Canucks' Tanev Registers Two Assists In Win

News: Chris Tanev tallied two assists in Friday's 5-2 win over Buffalo.
Analysis: Chris Tanev isn't exactly known for his scoring prowess, so it's always a bonus when he's able to generate some points. Tanev is known, however, for his willingness to sacrifice his body, as he currently has the fifth-most blocked shots in the NHL with 119. Tanev is on pace to post career-highs in both points and blocked shots this season.

Canucks' Tanev (Undisclosed) Appears Set To Play

News: Chris Tanev (undisclosed) is taking part in pregame warmups and looks set to play Thursday against the Flyers.
Analysis: Chris Tanev was listed as a game-time decision after missing the Canucks' morning skate, but it looks like whatever injury he's nursing isn't significant enough to keep him out of action. He'll man his usual spot on the Canucks' top defensive pairing next to Alex Edler on Thursday.

Analysis: Chris Tanev snapped a seven-game streak without a point on Tuesday by notching a helper against Nashville. Overall, the blueliner has recorded 10 points in 41 games.

Canucks' Tanev Uncertain For Thursday

News: Chris Tanev missed Thursday's practice with an undisclosed injury, Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: The injury might explain why Chris Tanev saw 17:52 of action in Tuesday's loss to the Predators -- about three minutes fewer than he typically receives. Coach Willie Desjardins is hopeful that the day off will be enough to allow Tanev to suit up Thursday against the Flyers, but his status probably won't be known for certain until the team concludes its gameday skate.

Canucks' Tanev Is Overtime Hero Saturday

News: Chris Tanev scored the overtime-winning goal on his birthday in Saturday against the Flames.
Analysis: The 25-year-old now has two goals and eight points in 32 games, to go with a plus-3 rating. While Chris Tanev has been most effective defensively this season, blocking 80 shots and logging 20:49 of ice time, the youngster is still on pace for the first 20-point season of his career.

Canucks' Tanev Stands Out In Win

News: Chris Tanev collected an assist, had a plus-3 rating, and was credited with a whopping eight blocked shots in Sunday's win over Chicago.
Analysis: Quite the night for Chris Tanev, who now has a point in two straight games and is up to six assists in 21 games on the season. While he is yet to score a goal in 2014-15, Tanev is averaging a steady 20:33 of ice time and should break the 20-point barrier for the first time in his career.

Canucks' Tanev Likely to Play

News: Chris Tanev was paired with Alexander Edler during Vancouver's morning skate on Saturday, and appears as though he will likely play in the Canucks' matchup with the Oilers on Saturday night, the Vancouver Province's Ben Kuzma reports.
Analysis: Chris Tanev was questionable to play in Saturday's game after suffering an undisclosed injury during Wednesday's tilt with the Flames, but now it appears as though the defenseman isn't in any danger of sitting out. Fantasy owners should deploy Tanev as they normally would.

Canucks' Tanev Questionable For Saturday

News: Chris Tanev (undisclosed) appears questionable to play Saturday against the Oilers.
Analysis: Coach Willie Desjardins wouldn't shed much light on Chris Tanev's condition, other than stating that the defenseman's status would be decided following Saturday's morning skate. Yannick Weber would fill in on the blue line if it's determined Tanev can't go.

Canucks' Tanev Nursing Injury

News: Chris Tanev sustained an injury during Wednesday's game against the Flames and will be reevaluated later Thursday.
Analysis: Coach Willie Desjardins didn't offer much insight into Chris Tanev's injury, other than saying that he hoped the defenseman would be available for the Canucks' next game Saturday. Tanev tallied two assists in Wednesday's victory.

Canucks' Tanev Picks Up Two Assists In Win

News: Chris Tanev registered a power-play assist and added an even-strength helper in Wednesday's win over Calgary.
Analysis: Chris Tanev had a great game offensively, creating chances and jumping into the play. He was absolutely robbed by Flames' netminder Jonas Hiller on two separate occasions. Tanev did finish the night a minus-2, but he was paired with Alex Edler, who finished the 2013-14 season with the worst plus-minus in the league (minus-39). Tanev is on the rise and should improve on the career-high 17 points he achieved last season.

Canucks' Tanev Solid In Preseason Play

News: Chris Tanev has looked strong in the preseason, making some great defensive plays while also seeing decent minutes on the power play.
Analysis: Chris Tanev skated alongside Alex Edler on Thursday, recording a plus-2 rating in a preseason win over Edmonton. The 24-year-old Tanev isn't expected to turn into an offensive force, but he is likely to improve on the career-high 17 points he recorded in 2013-14. While the thought of Tanev playing with Edler during the 2014-2015 season seems promising, Tanev may be actually be counted on more defensively in that role, with Edler being the one taking risks offensively.

Canucks Ink Tanev (Hand) To One-Year Extension

News: Chris Tanev signed a one-year contract extension with the Canucks on Saturday.
Analysis: Chris Tanev tallied 17 points (six goals and 11 assists) over 64 games for the Canucks in the 2013-14 season, but missed the last month of the season with a broken finger. The 24-year-old should be fine well ahead of the start of next season and will look to increase his career-high point total from last season.

Canucks' Tanev Out 3-4 Weeks

News: Chris Tanev will be out 3-4 weeks with a broken finger.
Analysis: It sounds like a best-case scenario for Chris Tanev, who has recorded 17 points in 64 games to date, is a late-season return for the Canucks, whose regular season slate concludes on April 13.

Canucks' Tanev Leaves Game With Hand Injury

News: Chris Tanev's right hand was in a full wrap and splint after Monday's loss to the Lightning, the Vancouver Province's Jason Botchford reports. Tanev played just 8:04 on Monday before leaving the game and not returning.
Analysis: It's unknown the severity of the injury, or how it occurred, but things aren't looking good. In any case, any form of injury doesn't bode well for the Canucks, who are already without Ryan Kesler (knee), and Daniel Sedin (hamstring). Chris Tanev has 17 points in 64 games this season, leading the team with a plus-12 rating.
