Blue Jackets Acquire Taormina From Bolts

News: Matt Taormina and Dana Tyrell were traded to the Blue Jackets on Wednesday in exchange for Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and Dalton Smith.
Analysis: Matt Taormina, 27, had six goals and 12 assists over 41 games with AHL Syracuse. As his age would suggest, Taormina really isn't a prospect at this point and probably can't be counted upon to earn a callup to the Blue Jackets this season. Look for him to report to AHL Springfield.

Lightning's Taormina Sent To AHL

News: Matt Taormina was re-assigned to AHL Syracuse on Wednesday, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jean-Philippe Cote was brought up and will take Matt Taormina's place along the blue line, but Taormina's demotion also suggests Victor Hedman (lower body) will be able to go Thursday against Nashville. Taormina failed to record a point in his seven games with Tampa.

Bolts Recall Taormina

News: Matt Taormina was recalled from AHL Syracuse on Wednesday, Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Matt Taormina's call-up is largely for insurance purposes, as both Eric Brewer and Radko Gudas are nursing injuries at the moment. The 27-year-old was among the final cuts in training camp and isn't expected to see much meaningful ice time during his stay with the Bolts.

Taormina Waived By Lightning

News: Matt Taormina was waived by the Lightning on Sunday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Matt Taormina is likely headed for AHL Syracuse if he clears waivers Monday. He was one of the final cuts in training camp for the Lightning. He played 55 games with AHL Syracuse last season, totaling 24 points on four goals and 20 assists. He will provide the Lightning with depth on defense.

Bolts Reassign Taormina

News: The Lightning reassigned Matt Taormina to AHL Syracuse on Monday.
Analysis: The defenseman will return to the Crunch after failing to register a point in two games with the Lightning. Matt Taormina will be replaced on the roster by fellow blueliner Mark Barberio, who was called up Monday.

Bolts' Recall Taormina From AHL

News: Matt Taormina has been recalled from AHL Syracuse, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: The 26-year-old defenseman will make his way to the Lightning for the first time this season. Matt Taormina was injured in the Lightning's camp in January and placed on IR. With the departure Marc-Andre Bergeron and the injury to fellow defenseman Victor Hedman, another defenseman was needed, the reason for Taormina's call up.

Bolts' Taormina On IR

News: Matt Taormina was injured at Tampa's training camp and has been placed on injured reserve, reports Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times.
Analysis: He cleared waivers so his next stop will be Syracuse. The injury hasn't been disclosed.

Bolts Recall Taormina

News: Matt Taormina, who has 16 points in 36 AHL games this season, has been called up to Tampa Bay's camp which starts Sunday, reports the Syracuse Post-Standard Dispatch.
Analysis: There was a time when this diminutive defender was considered a fantasy sleeper. But that was several seasons ago and some significant injuries later. There's an outside chance he might stick as a power-play specialist, but the team can really only afford to have one Marc-Andre Bergeron type on its roster. And they already have Bergeron.

Lightning Sign Taormina

News: Matt Taormina has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Lightning, the team's official Twitter page reported Friday.
Analysis: Matt Taormina, 25, spent most of last season with the Albany Devils of the AHL, but recorded 12 points (4G, 8A) in 47 NHL games the past two years. He'll head off to Tampa Bay, where there's a chance he'll see more playing time.

Devils' Taormina Sent To AHL

News: Matt Taormina was assigned to AHL Albany on Friday, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Matt Taormina was a healthy scratch for Thursday's win over Tampa Bay. In 30 games this season, Taormina has put up just seven points (1G, 6A), but he did have a plus-six ratio. It appears he will finish the season in the AHL.

Devils' Taormina Scratched Sunday

News: Matt Taormina was scratched prior to Sunday's game against the Flyers, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Devils coach Peter DeBoer indicated that some players were dealing with bumps and bruises. If Matt Taormina is dealing with an injury, we should know more about it before long.

New Jersey's Taormina Nets Season's First

News: Matt Taormina scored his first goal of the season in Sunday's win over Montreal, giving him a point in each of the last two games.
Analysis: Matt Taormina blasted a one-timer from blue line near the boards past Montreal's Carey Price on the short side. The young, mobile defender is slowly finding his comfort level for New Jersey, grabbing points in each of the last two games. He has six points in 24 games, but there is offensive potential if he can start to play more confidently.

Devils Recall Taormina From AHL Albany

News: The Devils have recalled Matt Taormina from AHL Albany, the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Matt Taormina has been decent in his small sample size of 15 NHL games this season, recording eight points and a plus-4 rating.

Devils Assign Taormina To AHL Albany

News: The Devils assigned Matt Taormina to AHL Albany on Thursday, Tom Gulitti of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Matt Taormina played in the Devils' last three games, but he will head to Albany for the time being to get some playing time in over the NHL All-Star break. His status with the big club post-break will depend on whether or not Andy Greene (foot) is ready to return to the ice.

Taormina On Sheet For Devils

News: Matt Taormina assisted on New Jersey's lone goal in Saturday's loss to the Flyers, giving him two helpers in the last four games he has played.
Analysis: Matt Taormina has been in and out of the lineup following a call-up in December, but could be in line for more ice time with Henrik Tallinder (blood clot) out of action for two months. He has some offensive upside and his point shot set up the team's lone goal Saturday. He's worth a look in leagues that roll many defensemen, but may not yield much.

Taormina In Devils' Lineup Saturday

News: Matt Taormina will play Saturday in Montreal taking the spot of Alexander Urbom, according to the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti's Twitter feed.
Analysis: Matt Taormina and Urbom will likely see themselves in and out of the lineup while they are up with the big club. Taormina gives the Devils another defenseman option on the power play as rookie Adam Larsson is taking a long break from the man-advantage. If Taormina receives regular playing time, he's worth a look in deeper leagues and has one point in three games this season.

Taormina Out Of Devils' Lineup

News: Matt Taormina will be a healthy scratch for Friday's contest against Dallas, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Matt Taormina has an assist in the three games he played over the last week. He's a puck-moving defender that was producing at the AHL level and makes way for the return of Anton Volchenkov from a broken hand injury. Remember Taormina's name if the Devils experience any further injuries to the blue line.

Taormina Grabs Assist For Devils

News: Matt Taormina registered an assist in New Jersey's 5-4 win over Tampa Bay, his first point of the season.
Analysis: Matt Taormina saw 2:33 on the man-advantage and set up New Jersey's only power-play tally with a shot from the point deflected in by Dainius Zubrus. Taormina has an opportunity to make an impact with the Devils should he receive regular ice time especially on the power play. With the Devils acquiring Kurtis Foster, a power play specialist of sorts, Taormina's ice time may dwindle a bit, but it's worth keeping an eye on. Those in deeper leagues should be aware of Taormina's potential.

Devils' Taormina Makes Season Debut

News: Matt Taormina played 16:02 in Saturday's loss to Montreal, finishing a plus-1 with a hit in his season debut.
Analysis: The Devils have injuries to Anton Volchenkov (broken hand) and Andy Greene (broken toe), which prompted them to call up Matt Taormina. With each player likely out for the foreseeable future, Taormina should receive regular ice time. If he starts getting power play time, Taormina could be worth a look in deeper leagues, as he has the ability to move the puck.

Taormina Recalled By Devils

News: Matt Taormina was recalled from Albany (AHL) Friday and practiced with the Devils, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Matt Taormina and Alexander Urbom were recalled from the AHL with the recent news that Andy Greene will miss four weeks with a fractured toe. Taormina is an excellent skater with offensive ability and could factor into the team's scoring should he be given the opportunity to play regularly. Remember his name in deep leagues if he finds a steady role with the club.

Devils Send Taormina Down

News: Matt Taormina has been sent to the AHL, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.
Analysis: He's able to contribute offensively, but the Devils want him to be a more consistent presence in the defensive end and he'll have to iron the kinks out in the minors before getting a look in New Jersey later this season.

Devils' Taormina Misses Friday Practice

News: Matt Taormina (upper body) did not practice Friday, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Matt Taormina's timing with this injury is rather unfortunate, as the Devils are in the process of ironing out the last spot on their blue line. Taormina's one of the few New Jersey defenders with offensive ability from the back end, but the extent of his injury is yet to be disclosed.

Devils' Taormina: Upper Body Injury

News: Matt Taormina is sidelined with an upper body injury, The New Jersey Star-Ledger reports, and will not play in Thursday's preseason contest.
Analysis: The promising but youthful Matt Taormina is in a dogfight to land one of the final roster spots, so even if this is just a short-term injury, the timing seems particularly bad here.

Taormina Impressing Devils' Coaches

News: Matt Taormina has shown Devils' coach Pete DeBoer what "he's capable of being", according to the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti.
Analysis: Matt Taormina's advantage when it comes to the squad's overly crowded third defensive pairing is that he's the only one of the roster that can be considered a puck-mover. He displayed some flashes of talent last year before an ankle injury torpedoed his season. DeBoer noted his ability to attack and that "[Taormina's] a good puck mover. He's a good skater." Taormina making the roster won't come as a surprise, as Andy Greene's best offensive days (or day) are behind him and someone has to man the point opposite Ilya Kovalchuk on the team's power play. Taormina's worth remembering in deep leagues, preferably keepers, that roll many defensemen, although DeBoer wasn't committal about Taormina making the team.

Taormina Determined As Devils' Camp Opens

News: Matt Taormina is eager to reclaim his spot on the New Jersey blue line after missing most of last season with an ankle injury, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Matt Taormina's one of the only puck-moving defenders with quick feet on the team's blue line, so he offers more for new coach Pete DeBoer than the rest of New Jersey's stable of defenders. Taormina will have to compete with fourth overall draft pick Adam Larsson and training camp invitee Anton Stralman. Taormina's an interesting pick, as he could be worth a very late-round pick or a waiver snag if he has a defined role when the season opens.
