Flyers' Gustafsson To Play In KHL

News: Erik Gustafsson will play in the KHL next season, leaving the Flyers with a hole to fill in the defensive rotation, the Philadelphia Inquirer's Sam Carchidi reports.
Analysis: He led the Flyers' defensemen in plus-minus rating in limited ice time this past season, and the team was 16-11-4 with him in the lineup. As a free agent, he will opt to play in Russia for the 2014-15 season.

Flyers To Start Gustafsson Thursday

News: Erik Gustafsson will start Thursday against the Lightning, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

Gustafsson Returns To Lineup After Healthy Hiatus

News: Erik Gustafsson saw just over 15 minutes of ice time but posted no significant contributions in Tuesday's 1-0 shootout loss to the Blues.
Analysis: Erik Gustafsson has been a healthy scratch for nearly five weeks, but with Kimmo Timonen out, Flyers' head coach Craig Berube found an opportunity to give the defenseman a rare start. Timonen could very well return for Thursday's game against Columbus, in which case you should expect another scratch for Gustafsson.

Flyers' Gustafsson Playing Well

News: Erik Gustafsson has two goals and eight assists in 26 games at the Olympic break.
Analysis: Erik Gustafsson could be a solid pickup for the last part of the season for fantasy owners in need of blue line help. He's been in the lineup pretty consistently since returning from injury in January, and has three assists in his last five games.

Flyers Activate Gustafsson

News: Erik Gustafsson (knee) was activated from injured reserve Friday.
Analysis: The move would seem to signal that Erik Gustafsson (knee) will be able to play Saturday, or at least serve as a healthy scratch for the Flyers. It could take him a few games to earn his regular spot in the lineup back with replacement Andrej Meszaros playing well of late.

Flyers' Gustafsson Expected To Return Next Week

News: Erik Gustafsson (knee) is expected to return for the Flyers in about a week, Sarah Baicker of CSN Philadelphia reports.

Flyers' Gustafsson Expected To Miss Two Weeks

News: Erik Gustafsson is expected to miss about two weeks with a left knee sprain.
Analysis: Late in Saturday's loss to Columbus, Erik Gustafsson sprained his left knee and will miss about two weeks as a result. It likely means increased playing time for Andrej Meszaros, though the team may be inclined to add a defenseman from the AHL with Nicklas Grossmann under the weather.

Flyers' Gustafsson Scores In Win

News: Erik Gustafsson scored his third goal of the season Tuesday night in Philadelphia's win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Erik Gustafsson is one of a few young defensemen in the organization that's been forced into a larger role because of injuries. He had 23:15 of ice time Tuesday, his fifth straight game with more than 20 minutes of playing time.

Flyers' Gustafsson Assists Twice

News: Erik Gustafsson picked up two assists -- one on an empty-netter -- and went plus-3 in a 5-3 win over the Leafs on Thursday.
Analysis: That's consecutive productive games for Erik Gustafsson, who also scored a goal in Wednesday's win over the Canadiens. He's been reasonably productive for a defenseman in the AHL this year (22 points in 39 games), but still has room for growth on the defensive side of things.

News: Erik Gustafsson left Wednesday's game against the Capitals with a lower body injury and will not return, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Erik Gustafsson exited after blocking a shot by Washington's Eric Fehr in the second period. Until the Flyers elaborate on the injury, consider Gustafsson day-to-day and questionable to play Saturday. Kurtis Foster saw increased time after Gustafsson left Wednesday.

Flyers' Gustafsson Called Up Saturday

News: Erik Gustafsson was called up from the AHL on Saturday.

Flyers' Gustafsson Back From Wrist Injury

News: Erik Gustafsson (wrist) played 12:41 against the Predators on Saturday and finished with an even rating.
Analysis: He's currently replacing Matt Walker, but Erik Gustafsson looks to be in the position of the sixth blueliner at the present time and the limited minutes he's in line to receive don't portend much value for fantasy owners to benefit from.

Flyers' Gustafsson Out Six Weeks After Wrist Surgery

News: Erik Gustafsson underwent wrist surgery Thursday morning and will be out six weeks, CSN Philly reports.
Analysis: The Flyers did not initially believe Erik Gustafsson's wrist injury was serious, but after he unsuccessfully tried to rehab the injury for a few days, the team ultimately decided surgery would provide the best path to recovery. With the Flyers unable to add another defender due to salary cap limitations, the team will roll with just six defensemen for the time being.

Gustafsson (Wrist) Out For Flyers On Monday

News: Erik Gustafsson (wrist) will not travel to Carolina on Monday, according to Sam Carchidi of Philly.com.
Analysis: Erik Gustafsson hasn't played in over a week now. The fact that he isn't even traveling with the team would suggest he's not especially close to being able to return to the lineup.

Flyers' Gustafsson Dealing With Apparent Wrist Injury

News: Erik Gustafsson will not play in Wednesday's game against the Lightning due to an apparent wrist injury, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Erik Gustafsson's injury is not serious, so it's possible he could rejoin the team before the end of their current road trip. Gustafsson was an impressive plus-6 in the last game he played in, but with Chris Pronger (eye) returning Wednesday, he may not see regular playing time for the Flyers upon his return to action.
