Talbot Logs Solid First Half

News: Cam Talbot (2.15 GAA) is 4-4-1 with a .926 save percentage in 11 games played this season.
Analysis: He's arguably one of the best handcuff (for owners of Henrik Lundqvist) options in fantasy hockey this season, when he plays. While the organization prepares for a combined 29 games in February and March, only two will be on a back-to-back occurrences next month. However, the team will play four back-to-back occurrences in March, increasing the 27-year-old's chances of the starting nod.

Rangers Don't Help Talbot In Loss

News: Cam Talbot stopped 29 of 32 shots Thursday, but Boston's Tuukka Rask shut out the Rangers on the other end to hand him a 3-0 loss.
Analysis: It's not a great statistical outing for Cam Talbot, but he actually made quite a few noteworthy saves. Unfortunately, he had to make those stops because the Rangers hung him out to dry repeatedly. The Rangers have hit the skids over the last two games following their 13-for-14 run, but Talbot remains one of the better backups in the league.

Rangers Go With Talbot On Thursday

News: Cam Talbot will start Thursday's game against the Bruins.
Analysis: Cam Talbot will draw the start Thursday against the Bruins -- winners of four straight -- with Henrik Lundqvist presumably on track to start Friday's game against the Blue Jackets.

Talbot Stops 12 Shots In Rangers' Loss

News: Cam Talbot stopped all 12 shots he faced in Tuesday's loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Cam Talbot came on in relief of Henrik Lundqvist who was saddled with the loss after yielding three goals in the first two periods. Settle down free-agent pool scavengers, it appears head coach Alain Vigneault was just protecting his number one goalie from spinning in his wheels in the third period. The 27-year-old Talbot (4-3-1, .929) remains a good hand-cuff for Henrik Lundqvist owners and one of the league's most trustworthy back-up goalies.

Talbot, Rangers March Out Of LA With Win

News: Cam Talbot stopped 28 of 31 shots to come away with a 4-3 win Thursday in Los Angeles.
Analysis: The Rangers' backup netminder allowed two early goals to put the team in a 2-0 hole, but he held tight after that while his offense mounted a comeback, and he wasn't shaken by a late goal that brought the Kings back within one. Cam Talbot gets to play quite rarely, but when he has been between the pipes, he's been as good as any backup in the league. He's won four of his last five starts, three of them via shutout. While Henrik Lundqvist has arguably been the driving force behind the Rangers winning 12 of their last 13, the reliability of Talbot when called upon certainly helps.

Rangers' Talbot Gets The Call Versus Kings

News: Cam Talbot will draw the start in goal Thursday against the Kings, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: In a rematch of last season's Stanley Cup finalists, it will be the backup that gets the call, as Henrik Lundqvist is set to play Wednesday in Anaheim. Cam Talbot pitched his third shutout of the season his last time out back on Dec. 22, but because of Lundqvist's recent successes, he hasn't had any opportunities to follow up that effort.

Rangers' Talbot Blanks Hurricanes

News: Cam Talbot pitched an 18-save shutout in Sunday's win over Carolina.
Analysis: Cam Talbot has been outstanding recently, recording a shutout in three of his past four games. The 27-year-old is now 3-3-1 on the season with an impressive .928 save percentage and 2.02 GAA. He has been one of the best backups this season and is a great fantasy option whenever starter Henrik Lundqvist gets the night off.

Rangers' Talbot To Start Sunday

News: Cam Talbot will start between the pipes against the Hurricanes on Sunday, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
Analysis: Fresh off his one-year contract extension Friday, Cam Talbot will receive the chance to prove his worth Sunday against the Hurricanes. He carries a 2.34 GAA and .921 save percentage into the matchup.

Rangers Ink Talbot To One-Year Extension

News: Cam Talbot signed a one-year, $1.45 million extension with the Rangers on Friday, Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: The new deal will keep Cam Talbot under contract through the end of the 2015-16 campaign. It was an easy decision for the Rangers to retain Talbot for another year, as he's performed as one of the league's best backups since taking the reins of the role last season. Over his 28 career regular-season appearances (25 starts), Talbot is 14-9-0 with a 1.80 GAA, .936 save percentage, and five shutouts.

Rangers' Talbot Expected To Start Sunday

News: Cam Talbot is expected to start in net Sunday against the Oilers, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Cam Talbot made 31 stops in his last start against the Red Wings last Saturday, allowing three goals. He remains behind Henrik Lundqvist in the goalie rotation, and will likely continue to see just spot starts.

Rangers' Talbot: 31 Saves In Loss

News: Cam Talbot made 31 saves in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Red Wings on Saturday night.
Analysis: He had to come back to earth at some point after recording back-to-back shutouts in November. That's not to say he played poorly -- he actually looked pretty good. He just couldn't hold a 2-0 lead. Keep him on your bench and roll him in match-ups.

Rangers' Talbot To Start Saturday

News: Cam Talbot will be in the net Saturday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: Cam Talbot will make his fifth start in 15 games for the Rangers, due in part to Henrik Lundqvist's ongoing inconsistency as well as coach Alain Vigneault's stated desire to get him some more work. Talbot has certainly done his best to make Vigneault feel comfortable with starting him; he's posted shutouts in his last two turns.

Rangers' Talbot Silences Flyers

News: Cam Talbot stopped all 26 shots he faced to blank the Flyers on Friday.
Analysis: That gives Cam Talbot back-to-back shutouts against the Flyers, who failed to get one by the netminder when the two teams met last week. Despite his extraordinary success against Philadelphia, coach Alain Vigneault will resist the temptation to go back to him in Saturday's rematch, as Henrik Lundqvist has already been announced as that game's starter. In any case, the back-to-back positive turns amount to a nice confidence boost for Talbot, who had mostly struggled in his other outings this season.

Rangers' Talbot To Start Friday

News: Cam Talbot will get the start in goal Friday against the Flyers.
Analysis: It's the first game of a back-to-back set between the Rangers and Flyers, with coach Alain Vigneault already declaring that Henrik Lundqvist would start the second match Saturday. Cam Talbot hasn't seen much action behind Lundqvist this season, but was stellar his last time out Nov. 19, which was also against Philadelphia. He stopped all 31 shots he faced to claim his fourth career shutout.

Rangers' Talbot Shuts Out Flyers

News: Cam Talbot recorded a 31-save shutout in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Cam Talbot had been struggling heading into Wednesday's matchup, having allowed eight goals in his previous two starts. He earned his first victory of the season with the shutout, but won't be infringing on starter Henrik Lundqvist's role anytime soon.

Rangers' Talbot To Start Wednesday

News: Cam Talbot will get the start Wednesday against the Flyers.
Analysis: Regular goaltender Henrik Lundqvist gave up five goals his last time out and is 2-2-3 this month, so he will get a night off to clear his head. That will leave Cam Talbot to take on a Flyers team that has scored at least three goals in five straight games.

Rangers' Talbot Torched For Five Goals In Defeat

News: Cam Talbot surrendered five goals on 31 shots in Saturday's narrow loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Coach Alain Vigneault's desire to give Cam Talbot more frequent starts in November has yet to be rewarded, as the backup netminder has let in eight goals over his two turns this month, taking the loss on both occasions. Talbot is probably still shaking off some rust after going largely unused in October, but despite Vigneault's intentions, it's tough to envision Talbot receiving enough run to perform consistently well when he's called upon.

Rangers Confirm Talbot As Saturday Starter

News: Coach Alain Vigneault confirmed that Cam Talbot would be between the pipes Saturday against the Maple Leafs, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: It will mark Cam Talbot's second outing of the month, as Vigneault continues to follow through with his stated desire to get the backup about three or four starts in November. Talbot previously made one of his three appearances this season in relief against the Leafs back on Oct. 12, stopping all 12 shots he faced in just under 25 minutes of duty.

Rangers To Start Talbot In Toronto?

News: Cam Talbot was the first goalie off the ice during Friday's practice, reports Andrew Gross of The Record.
Analysis: With the team playing on back-to-back nights this weekend, it appears Cam Talbot will draw Toronto on Saturday, leaving Henrik Lundqvist to host Edmonton on Sunday. Talbot is 0-2-1 with a 2.84 GAA in three games (two starts) played this season.

Rangers' Talbot Takes Shootout Loss Monday

News: Cam Talbot allowed three goals on 34 shots before falling 4-3 in a shootout to the Blues on Monday.
Analysis: Cam Talbot looked sharp in just his third appearance of the season, but was ultimately outdueled by Blues netminder Brian Elliott, who made 36 saves of his own. Nonetheless, Talbot should be one of the league's better backups this season and is a decent third goalie for owners of workhorse Henrik Lundqvist, who looks poised to make his customary 65-to-70 starts, health permitting. Talbot, who now owns an .899 save percentage to go with a 2.83 GAA, is still searching for his first win this season.
