News: Smith signed a contract with the Bruins Friday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: With 13 goals and 35 assists in the AHL last season, Smith will likely be used for depth purposes in Boston.
News: The Penguins signed forward Wyatt Smith to a contract Friday. Terms of the deal were not released.
Analysis: The 32-year-old Smith split the 2008-09 season between San Antonio and Norfolk of the AHL. He had 19 goals and 47 points in 71 games. The 5-11, 205-pound center has played parts of eight NHL seasons with Phoenix, Nashville, the N.Y. Islanders, Minnesota and Colorado. Smith has recorded 32 points (10 goals) and 65 penalty minutes in 211 career NHL games. He has not played in the NHL since 2007-08 with the Avs. Smith is merely organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy.
News: The Tampa Bay Lightning traded minor league center Wyatt Smith to the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday for future considerations.
Analysis: Smith played in 18 games with Norfolk of the AHL this season. The 31-year-old forward has played in 211 career NHL games with Phoenix, Nashville, Minnesota, Colorado and the New York Islanders. Smith is just a checking line forward and has little to no Fantasy value.
News: The Tampa Bay Lightning signed free agent center Wyatt Smith to a one-year, two-way contract on Thursday. The 31-year-old Smith split his time between the Avalanche and Lake Erie of the American Hockey League last season. He had three assists in 25 games with Colorado, and appeared in one playoff game for the club.
Analysis: The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder has scored 10 goals and tallied 22 assists in 221 career NHL games with Colorado, the Minnesota Wild, New York Islanders, Nashville Predators and Phoenix Coyotes. The Minnesota product was originally drafted in the ninth round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the Coyotes. Smyth is just a checking line forward and has little to no Fantasy value.
News: The Avalanche recalled C Wyatt Smith from Lake Erie (AHL) Saturday, but he did not dress for the game against New Jersey. The team sent down D Jeff Jillson.
Analysis: Smith played 25 games earlier this season for Colorado, but recorded just three assists. He has been nothing more than minor league depth over his career and has no Fantasy value.
News: LW Wyatt Smith cleared waivers Wednesday and was assigned to the Lake Erie Monsters in the American Hockey League.
Analysis: Smith, 30, had three assists, eight penalty minutes and a minus-4 plus/minus rating in 25 games. He warrants little Fantasy consideration.
News: The Colorado Avalanche have signed Smith to a one-year contract on Tuesday, although the terms of the deal were undisclosed.
Analysis: Smith is a light-scoring center who will top out on the No. 4 line at best. Expect to see him bounce back and forth between the AHL and NHL this season. Needless to say, that means he warrants little Fantasy consideration.
News: Wyatt Smith couldn't remember the last time he scored. That's understandable because his last goal was 92 games ago. But Smith ended his goal-scoring drought as the Minnesota Wild withstood a third-period charge by the Colorado Avalanche for a 4-3 win Thursday night. Smith, who last scored on Feb. 13, 2004, when he was with Nashville, backhanded a shot over Colorado goalie Peter Budaj's shoulder. "I didn't know where (the shot) was going," he said. "So if I don't know, he (Budaj) doesn't know. Hopefully, it doesn't take another 92."
Analysis: That is certainly quite a feat Mr. Smith had carrying on. Unless he starts scoring at a more rapid pace, Smith doesn't do enough to warrant heavy use in Fantasy leagues.
News: C Pavol Demitra, LW Pascal Dupuis, D Kurtis Foster, C Mikko Koivu, D Nick Schultz, C Wyatt Smith and RW Joel Ward were all scoreless in Sunday's shootout win at Chicago and each managed a minus-1 rating.
Analysis: Smith has just two points in 32 games, so his Fantasy value remains negligible.
News: Wild C Wyatt Smith was placed on waivers Tuesday. Because of a holiday roster freeze, he can't be returned to AHL Houston until Dec. 28.
Analysis: Smith should not be on Fantasy rosters at this time.
News: Smith was recalled from Houston of the AHL on Sunday to replace Jason Morgan (thigh surgery) on the active roster.
Analysis: Neither Morgan or Smith are worthy of any Fantasy consideration.
News: The Minnesota Wild recalled right wing Matt Foy and center Wyatt Smith from the minors on Tuesday to fill in following a rash of injuries. Left wing Pascal Dupuis will miss at least a month with a sprained left knee sustained last Thursday. Right wing Mattias Weinhandl -- felled by a concussion caused by a collision in Saturday's game -- is also out.
Analysis: Foy, who played in 19 games with the Wild last season, and Smith were recalled from Houston of the AHL. Smith has been in 125 NHL games with Phoenix, Nashville and the New York Islanders. Foy and Smith were tied for the Houston lead with four points each in five games. Neither of these players are worth picking up at this juncture, but watch their progress early on.
News: Smith was recalled from Bridgeport of the AHL on Tuesday.
Analysis: Smith has picked up four assists in 14 games in his earlier stint with the Islanders. He has minimal Fantasy appeal.
News: Smith was scoreless in Monday's game at Buffalo with a minus-1 rating in just 6:35 of ice time.
Analysis: Smith does not see enough ice time to warrant any Fantasy consideration.
News: Smith re-signed a contract with the Nashville Predators on Thursday.
Analysis: Smith will likely split time between Nashville and their AHL affiliate in Milwaukee. He has no Fantasy appeal.
