Atkinson Tallies Two Points for Columbus

News: Cam Atkinson scored a breakaway goal and added a helper Thursday in a 4-3 shootout win over Florida, snapping a seven-game scoring slump.
Analysis: He'd gone without a point over the last seven and suffered a minus-6 rating in that span, during which the Jackets lost six times. Cam Atkinson has impressive offensive talent, but his lack of size and the team's general struggles have conspired to limit his productivity to 12 points in 24 games -- right in line with last year's scoring rate, but fantasy owners were looking for him to make strides toward 50-point productivity this year.

Jackets' Atkinson Nets Winner On Power Play

News: Cam Atkinson scored the game winner on the power play in Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Sharks.
Analysis: He picked up a rebound and slammed it into a wide-open crease. He has 10 points in 16 games but has been doing it the hard way -- he only has one game with two points. The diminutive winger has struggled since his hot start (five points in his first four games), but the return of linemate Booner Jenner should buy Cam Atkinson time and space to wield his offensive magic. He could be a good waiver grab as a result.

Jackets' Atkinson Finds The Net Friday

News: Cam Atkinson scored his fifth goal of the season, a power-play marker, in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: He's now got seven points in nine games, and with the Jackets' roster gutted by injuries, Cam Atkinson's getting plenty of ice time on the top line alongside Ryan Johansen. The diminutive winger could well be headed for a career season.

Jackets' Atkinson Scores Goal In Return

News: Cam Atkinson (eye) found the net for his fourth goal of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Senators.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson looked like he was headed for a potential long-term absence after taking an ugly slash to the face from a skate Friday in Anaheim, but he missed just one game after he was cleared of any eye or vision damage. By all indications he seemed to be fine Tuesday, skating 21:10 and continuing his hot start to the season with his fourth goal and sixth point in eight games.

Blue Jackets' Atkinson To Play Tuesday

News: Cam Atkinson (eye) will play in Tuesday's game against the Senators, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson narrowly missed a major injury when he was cut by a skate beneath his eye Friday, and he will be able to return to action after sitting out just one game. Atkinson said his vision is fine, so expect him to play his regular role for the Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

Jackets' Atkinson Skates

News: Cam Atkinson (eye) took part in Monday's optional team skate, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson missed Saturday's game after getting cut by an opponent's skate against the Ducks on Friday, but returned to the ice Monday. He'll likely be wearing a full cage on his helmet to protect that eye for a while, but it looks like he could suit up as early as Tuesday against the Senators.

Jackets' Atkinson Out Sunday Against Kings

News: Cam Atkinson (eye) will not play in the Blue Jackets game against the Kings on Sunday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson suffered a cut below his right eye in Columbus' game on Friday and was questionable leading up to their game on Sunday. This shouldn't be a long-term injury for the 25-year-old winger and should return to the lineup in the next few days. In seven games played, Atkinson has three goals and two assists.

Jackets' Atkinson Suffers Cut Below Right Eye

News: Cam Atkinson suffered a cut below his right eye during Friday's game against the Ducks, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Fortunately, Cam Atkinson did not sustain any damage to his right eye, but he should be considered day-to-day and questionable for Sunday's game until the team provides additional information.

Jackets' Atkinson To Return Friday

News: Cam Atkinson (undisclosed) will play Friday against the Calgary.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson missed Wednesday's practice with the undisclosed ailment, but was back in action Thursday and at Friday's morning skate to assuage any concern about his health. As usual, he'll skate on the Blue Jackets' top line with Ryan Johansen and Nick Foligno.

Jackets' Atkinson Misses Practice Wednesday

News: Cam Atkinson was held out of practice Wednesday with an undisclosed injury, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Jackets coach Todd Richards said only that Cam Atkinson was "nicked up," but the winger is expected to be in the lineup Friday against the Flames.

Blue Jackets' Atkinson Returns After Day Off

News: Cam Atkinson took part in Thursday's practice after sitting out Wednesday, Blue Jackets play-by-play announcer Jeff Rimer reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson may be dealing with a minor injury, but after skating Thursday, he should be good to go for the Blue Jackets' next game Friday.

Jackets' Atkinson Nets Two More Goals

News: Cam Atkinson scored twice, including the game winner, in the Blue Jackets' 5-2 win over the Rangers on Saturday night.
Analysis: Two games, three goals -- he's on a roll. Don't be afraid to selectively dangle the little sniper to see what his trade value might be. And you know just the guy in your league who'll be interested. Can't hurt.

Jackets' Atkinson Knocks Home Goal In Victory

News: Cam Atkinson tallied a goal on three shots in Thursday's win over the Sabres.
Analysis: The power-play marker went down as the game-winning goal for Cam Atkinson, who skated for 15:38 in the victory. With three of the team's top-six forwards (Boone Jenner, Brandon Dubinsky and Nathan Horton) on injured reserve for lengthy periods of time to begin the season, Atkinson should be a mainstay on the top line and top power-play unit. It's a dramatic turnaround from his standing with the team last March, when he was an occasional healthy scratch by coach Todd Richards, before he turned things around by the end of the season.

Jackets' Atkinson Has Two-Point Night

News: Cam Atkinson scored an empty-net goal and added an assist in Tuesday's 2-0 preseason win over the Penguins.
Analysis: With Ryan Johansen (contract dispute) and Nathan Horton (back injury) both currently away from training camp, Cam Atkinson can solidify a spot on one of the Jackets' top two lines if he keeps turning in performances like this. Last year's 21 goals and 40 points were both career highs, but he is capable of more if he gets the opportunity.

Jackets' Atkinson Reaches 20-Goal Mark

News: Cam Atkinson notched his 20th goal of the season in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Avalanche. He now has 36 points in 72 games, giving him a scoring pace of exactly 0.5 points-per-game.
Analysis: After grooming his talents in 117 college games, 89 AHL games, and 62 NHL games prior to this season, Cam Atkinson has broken out in a big way in 2013-2014 - his first full NHL campaign. His 20 goals and 193 shots are both second on the Jackets behind another surprise breakout in Ryan Johansen, and his five game-winning goals are tied for tops on the team as well. Make sure you put a star beside his name for next year's draft.

Atkinson Assists In Columbus Loss

News: Cam Atkinson registered an assist on the lone Columbus goal in Friday's 2-1 loss to Pittsburgh, his second point in as many games.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson had gone nine games without a point before bagging a goal in Tuesday's win over Detroit, so he could be on the cusp of another scoring burst. He's been rather streaky this season, but Atkinson is closing in on a 40-point campaign.

Jackets' Atkinson Bags First Goal In Nine Games

News: Cam Atkinson was credited with the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over the Red Wings.
Analysis: The goal - Cam Atkinson's first since Mar. 1 - didn't come without controversy. An initial shot by Matt Calvert was stopped by goalie Jimmy Howard before ultimately popping loose behind him. Atkinson then raced from the far side to finish off the loose puck, but was met by Detroit blueliner Brendan Smith, who knocked Atkinson into the net as he put the biscuit in the basket. Video replay confirmed the goal was good, even though Howard vehemently disagreed when talking with reporters after the game. In any case, it was a needed tally for Atkinson, who had become a healthy scratch on a few occasions this month due to his lack of production. He's started to pick things up of late, with 20 shots on goal over his past four games.

Jackets' Atikinson In Lineup Again Friday

News: Cam Atkinson will suit up for his second straight game on Friday.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson is starting in place of R.J. Umberger for the second straight night. Although he didn't record a point in Thursday's contest, he did take five shots in 15:01 of ice time.

Blue Jackets' Atkinson Back In Lineup Thursday

News: Cam Atkinson will return to the lineup Thursday vs. the Sharks, Dan Kamal of FOX Sports Ohio reports.
Analysis: A healthy scratch the last three games for the Blue Jackets, Cam Atkinson will likely be replacing Artem Anisimov (personal), who is away from the team as he awaits the birth of his first child. Coach Todd Richards said that Atkinson will have plenty to prove in his return, with a poor performance likely resulting in another prolonged stay in the press box.

Jackets' Atkinson Likely Scratched Again Monday

News: Blue Jackets coach indicated his forward lines would not be changing for Monday's game against the Stars, which would mean Cam Atkinson will be a healthy scratch for the second straight game, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: We're not sure what he did to land in Richards' dog house, but the Jackets can ill afford to be without their third-leading goal scorer in the middle of a playoff chase. We can't imagine Cam Atkinson's stay in the press box will be a long one.

Jackets' Atkinson A Healthy Scratch Saturday

News: Cam Atkinson was a healthy scratch for Saturday's 1-0 win over the Predators.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson has a career high 18 goals and 34 points on the season, but just two points (one goal, one assist) in five games since the Olympic break. The Jackets need his offense though, so look for the feisty winger to rejoin the lineup soon enough.

Goal, Assist For Jackets' Atkinson

News: Cam Atkinson collected a goal and an assist for the second straight game in Thursday's win over the Capitals.
Analysis: This time, though, he improved on Tuesday's line against Ottawa by also going plus-2. The points pushed Cam Atkinson over 30 for the first time in his career.

Jackets' Atkinson Snaps Slump

News: Cam Atkinson ended a four-game scoreless skid with a goal and an assist -- both on the power play -- in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Ottawa.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson's goal and primary assist on the man advantage helped erase a 2-0 deficit, but it wasn't enough in this one. With 16 goals and 29 points on the year, Atkinson's fantasy utility is limited to deeper formats. However, he's been seeing more time with the man advantage lately -- a situation that bears watching, as it could bear further fruit for the talented winger.

Jackets' Atkinson Gets Seventh Point In Last Six

News: Cam Atkinson's assist Saturday gives him three points in his last two games and seven, including five goals, in his last six.
Analysis: He's building on last season and already has new career bests in goals (15) and assists (12). He may bring you another 20 points before season's end.

Jackets' Atkinson Heating Up

News: Cam Atkinson scored twice in Friday's win over Washington, giving him four goals in the last three games.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson remains relevant in deeper leagues and especially keeper leagues as he has been enjoying the Columbus scoring surge of late. He tends to binge on points, but he's seeing enough ice time to generate scoring chances, although he's not producing much on the power play. Keep an eye on him if you're in need of a scoring punch for daily leagues on days with a light slate of games.
