Jackets' Atkinson Nets Game-Winner Friday

News: Cam Atkinson scored the game-winning goal Friday against the Sabres.
Analysis: With eight goals in his last 15 games, Cam Atkinson now has 21 goals on the season -- 73rd in the NHL. While the Jackets may be eliminated from playoff contention, Atkinson, who is currently skating on the top line with Ryan Johansen, makes for a decent fantasy play in deeper formats Saturday against the Islanders.

Jackets' Atkinson Good To Go Friday

News: Cam Atkinson (hand) appears set to play Friday against the Sabres.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson required stitches after he was slashed by a teammate's skate during the ensuing celebration following Wednesday's win over the Maple Leafs, but it looks like he sustained nothing more than some cosmetic damage. The winger was able to participate fully during Friday's morning skate, and should be worth keeping active in deeper leagues versus the Sabres, the league's worst team.

Jackets' Atkinson Requires Stitches After Win

News: Cam Atkinson was cut on the hand by teammate Alexander Wennberg's skate after the team celebrated Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Maple Leafs, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson required 10 stitches to seal the wound, but otherwise appeared to avoid more serious damage. The Blue Jackets haven't provided an update on Atkinson's condition just yet, so consider him questionable for Friday's game against the Sabres until more information is provided.

Jackets' Atkinson Stays Hot Saturday

News: Cam Atkinson notched a goal and assist in Saturday's win over the Blues
Analysis: Cam Atkinson followed up his hat trick from a night earlier with his third multi-point performance in as many games. Atkinson has a whopping seven goals and five assists over his last 10 contests, making him an easy activation right now while he's rolling. Go ahead and scoop him off the waiver wire if he's still out there.

Atkinson's Hatty Leads Jackets Past Blackhawks

News: Cam Atkinson scored a hat trick and fired six shots on goal in Friday's win over Chicago.
Analysis: That's five points in two games for Cam Atkinson, who has managed 19 goals and 35 points in 70 games on the season. Skating on the top line with Ryan Johansen, Atkinson has scored six goals in his last eight games and has recorded at least one point in seven of his last nine games. The 25-year-old has been a fantasy stud this season, potting six power-play goals, six game-winning goals and recording 193 shots on goal. Atkinson, who is sporting a plus-5 rating over his last three games, should be rolled out with confidence right now, as the surging Blue Jackets have won eight of their last nine games.

Atkinson Helps Set Up Jackets' Win

News: Cam Atkinson assisted on a pair of goals in Tuesday's 5-3 victory over the Ducks.
Analysis: He's been rolling along pretty decently of late, having tallied seven points over the last eight games -- and the Jackets have, perhaps not coincidentally, been quite hot in that span, winning seven times. Cam Atkinson's going to have to make a strong push at the end of the season to match last year's 40 points, though -- he'll need eight more in the Jackets' final nine games.

Jackets' Atkinson Scores Again Friday

News: Cam Atkinson picked up his second goal in as many nights during Friday's shootout win over the Oilers.
Analysis: He's had a disappointing campaign overall with just 15 goals and 28 points in 64 games, but Cam Atkinson is working on a modest three game point streak, and with a new contract extension in his back pocket may be relaxed enough on the ice to have a solid finish to the season.

Jackets Keep Atkinson Around For Three More Years

News: Cam Atkinson signed a three-year, $10.5 million extension with the Blue Jackets on Monday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson was a central name in trade rumors as Monday's deadline approached, but the Blue Jackets elected to keep the winger in the fold after no team stepped up with an overwhelming offer. The 25-year-old has been a rather inconsistent producer during his tenure with the organization, though he has shown the ability to get hot during certain stretches of action. Atkinson is currently hanging on to a top-six role alongside Ryan Johansen and Nick Foligno, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him get on another scoring run at some point before the season comes to a close.

Goals Keep Coming For Jackets' Atkinson

News: Cam Atkinson found twine for his 13th goal of the season in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson pounced on a turnover by the Isles' Brian Strait and put the puck past goalie Jaroslav Halak to claim his fourth goal in five games, during which he's posted a plus-6 rating. The 25-year-old has shown scoring bursts like this in the past, so it might be worth the effort to pick him up and keep him active while he continues to sizzle. In most formats, Atkinson can probably be dropped once the inevitable cool down occurs.

Jackets' Atkinson Claims Two Points Saturday

News: Cam Atkinson rattled off a goal and assist in Saturday's win over the Senators.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson got on the board for the game's first score four minutes into the third period, giving him his second goal in as many nights. The diminutive winger has been taking off since the All-Star break, amassing three goals and three assists in six games.

Atkinson Notches Two Points In Jackets' Win

News: Cam Atkinson picked up a goal on five shots and added an assist in Tuesday's win over Washington.
Analysis: The talented Cam Atkinson hadn't been productive for the Jackets recently, having tallied just a lonely assist over the last 14 games. But his five shots Tuesday represent his highest total since Nov. 15, so perhaps Atkinson's finding his game again.

Jackets' Atkinson Captures Assist In Win

News: Cam Atkinson set up Matt Calvert's game-winning goal in Saturday's game against the Bruins.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson nearly had the goal for himself, but his point shot slowed to a crawl after it was partially stopped by goalie Tuukka Rask before Calvert cleaned up the mess. It marked the first point for the winger since Dec. 11, as he had been held off the score sheet for the last 11 games. He'll need to start producing with more consistency before becoming a lineup consideration for fantasy players.

Jackets Activate Atkinson From IR

News: Cam Atkinson (upper body) was activated from injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson has missed three consecutive games since suffering an upper-body injury against Boston on Dec. 27. He will likely return to his usual role as the right wing on the Jackets' second line with Brandon Dubinsky and Matt Calvert in Tuesday's game against Dallas. Atkinson has tallied eight goals and six assists in 33 games with Columbus this season.

Jackets' Atkinson (Upper Body) May Return Tuesday

News: Cam Atkinson (upper body) could return for Tuesday's game against the Stars, Jeff Rimer of Fox Sports Ohio reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson practiced Friday, but wasn't available for Saturday's game against the Coyotes. His return would give a little bit of relief for the Blue Jackets, who have multiple forwards currently sitting out with injuries.

Jackets' Atkinson (Upper Body) Practices Friday

News: Cam Atkinson (upper body) was a participant in Friday's practice, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson won't be an option for Saturday's game against the Coyotes since he didn't see any involvement in line rushes, but it doesn't look like he's in line for an absence much further beyond that. The winger should increase his involvement in practice in the coming days and appears to be trending toward an activation at some point next week.

Jackets' Atkinson Transferred To IR

News: Cam Atkinson (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: The 25-year-old's IR stint is retroactive to Dec. 27. The Jackets indicated Tuesday that they don't believe Cam Atkinson is dealing with a long-term injury, so it seems plausible that he won't be out for much longer than the seven-day minimum. Sean Collins was recalled from AHL Springfield in a corresponding move.

Long-Term Injury Not In Play For Jackets' Atkinson

News: Coach Todd Richards said Tuesday that Cam Atkinson (upper body) isn't looking like a long-term absence, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson has already been ruled out for the New Year's Eve tilt with the Wild, but his presence on the ice Tuesday suggests he's not especially far off a return. It amounts to a rare bit of good news on the injury front for the Jackets, who have been one of the league's most banged-up teams this season.

Jackets' Atkinson Out At Least One Game

News: Coach Todd Richards said Saturday that Cam Atkinson (upper body) will miss "at least Wednesday's game" against the Wild.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson suffered the injury during Saturday's win over Boston when he took a shot from Matt Bartkowski. After sitting out Wednesday, his next chance to return will come Jan. 3 against the Coyotes.

Jackets' Atkinson Leaves Saturday With Injury

News: Cam Atkinson left Saturday's game against the Bruins with an upper-body injury and will not return, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson took a shot from Matt Bartkowski during his second shift and exited shortly thereafter. Consider Atkinson day-to-day and questionable to play Wednesday against Minnesota until more information becomes available.

Atkinson Tallies Two Points for Columbus

News: Cam Atkinson scored a breakaway goal and added a helper Thursday in a 4-3 shootout win over Florida, snapping a seven-game scoring slump.
Analysis: He'd gone without a point over the last seven and suffered a minus-6 rating in that span, during which the Jackets lost six times. Cam Atkinson has impressive offensive talent, but his lack of size and the team's general struggles have conspired to limit his productivity to 12 points in 24 games -- right in line with last year's scoring rate, but fantasy owners were looking for him to make strides toward 50-point productivity this year.

Jackets' Atkinson Nets Winner On Power Play

News: Cam Atkinson scored the game winner on the power play in Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Sharks.
Analysis: He picked up a rebound and slammed it into a wide-open crease. He has 10 points in 16 games but has been doing it the hard way -- he only has one game with two points. The diminutive winger has struggled since his hot start (five points in his first four games), but the return of linemate Booner Jenner should buy Cam Atkinson time and space to wield his offensive magic. He could be a good waiver grab as a result.

Jackets' Atkinson Finds The Net Friday

News: Cam Atkinson scored his fifth goal of the season, a power-play marker, in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: He's now got seven points in nine games, and with the Jackets' roster gutted by injuries, Cam Atkinson's getting plenty of ice time on the top line alongside Ryan Johansen. The diminutive winger could well be headed for a career season.

Jackets' Atkinson Scores Goal In Return

News: Cam Atkinson (eye) found the net for his fourth goal of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Senators.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson looked like he was headed for a potential long-term absence after taking an ugly slash to the face from a skate Friday in Anaheim, but he missed just one game after he was cleared of any eye or vision damage. By all indications he seemed to be fine Tuesday, skating 21:10 and continuing his hot start to the season with his fourth goal and sixth point in eight games.

Blue Jackets' Atkinson To Play Tuesday

News: Cam Atkinson (eye) will play in Tuesday's game against the Senators, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson narrowly missed a major injury when he was cut by a skate beneath his eye Friday, and he will be able to return to action after sitting out just one game. Atkinson said his vision is fine, so expect him to play his regular role for the Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

Jackets' Atkinson Skates

News: Cam Atkinson (eye) took part in Monday's optional team skate, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson missed Saturday's game after getting cut by an opponent's skate against the Ducks on Friday, but returned to the ice Monday. He'll likely be wearing a full cage on his helmet to protect that eye for a while, but it looks like he could suit up as early as Tuesday against the Senators.
