Dillon Not Blooming The Way Sharks Hoped

News: Brenden Dillon, acquired by the Sharks in November, has no points in his last 13 games.
Analysis: Brenden Dillon showed signs of offensive potential last season for Dallas, with six goals and 17 points. He has good size, a good shot, and a lot of upside, but it hasn't been there for San Jose as he's been held without a point in his last 13 games. In San Jose, his shots per game is matching his pace from last year, but the points haven't followed.

Sharks' Dillon Without A Point In Seven Games

News: Brenden Dillon got into a fight and played 19:07 in Wednesday's OT loss to Washington, but he's not offering owners much else.
Analysis: Brenden Dillon's sophomore campaign was full of promise. He posted six goals, 11 assists, and 97 shots. At 22, he looked like he could develop into a valuable fantasy option. Now 24, he has two goals and six assists through 34 games. It's a so-so pace, but not where you might have hoped he'd be getting to. He's currently without a point in seven games. In one of those seven he managed to fire off four shots, but he only took three shots total in the other six games. He can get you points in some categories, but in shallow leagues you might benefit from a search through the wire.

Dillon's First Goal Of 2014-15 Sends Sharks To Win

News: Brenden Dillon's first goal of the season came in the third period Tuesday against Arizona, untying a 2-2 game and holding up as the winning tally. He also laid five hits and blocked two shots.
Analysis: It took him 42 games, but Brenden Dillon finally found twine -- something he achieved six times in 80 games from the Stars' blue line last year. He's been somewhat better since joining the Sharks than he was with Dallas earlier this year, but still has pretty minimal fantasy value, though his PIM, hits and blocks will play in some formats.

Sharks' Dillon Generates Assist In Loss

News: Brenden Dillon notched an assist in Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Blues.
Analysis: Outside of piling up hits, the 24-year-old hasn't offered much to get excited about over his 20 games with the Sharks, tallying just five points. He had only one point in his 20 games with the Stars before being traded to San Jose, and appears safe to conclude that the move did little to spark his production.

Dillon Notches First Point With Sharks

News: Brenden Dillon was credited with an assist in Thursday's resounding win over the Bruins.
Analysis: It took a seven-goal, 44-shot effort by his team to do it, but Brenden Dillon has now recorded his first point with the Sharks since coming over in a trade with Dallas back on Nov. 21. He's not much of a puck mover and should typically offer most of his value to the Sharks in his own zone.

Stars Trade Dillon To Sharks

News: The Stars traded Brenden Dillon to the Sharks on Friday in exchange for defenseman Jason Demers and a future third-round draft pick, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Though he doesn't offer as much puck-moving ability as Demers, the 26-year-old Brenden Dillon's ample size (6-foot-4, 225 lbs.) will add some bulk to a Sharks blue line that figures to carve out a regular role for him. After missing much of training camp in a contract dispute, Dillon was rough to rotten start to the season with the Stars, generating no goals and one assist over 20 games.

Dallas' Dillon Struggling

News: Brenden Dillon has yet to score a goal through 18 games and has only one assist. He's gone 12 games without registering a point, has a minus-5 rating over that span, and has only taken eight shots through those 12 games.
Analysis: Brenden Dillon was expected to take on an expanded role this season for Dallas, but has not lived up to expectations. After being given hefty minutes to start the season, including hitting 30:32 once, he hasn't gone over 17:08 in four games. His ice time is getting cut and it looks like it's more than being snakebit, as he's not even logging many shot attempts or power play time.

Stars' Dillon Active In Season Debut

News: Brenden Dillon logged 23:25 of ice time in Thursday's shootout loss to the Blackhawks, finishing with two shots on goal, four penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating in his 35 shifts.
Analysis: Despite Brenden Dillon's abbreviated training camp, the Stars didn't seem to limit him at all in the season opener, as he actually saw the ice for two minutes more than his average last season (21:06). His meager offensive upside probably limits his utility to deeper formats, but he's at least a moderate contributor to just about every category.

Stars, Dillon End Impasse

News: Brenden Dillon signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Stars on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports.
Analysis: After the Stars entered the week with both Cody Eakin and Brenden Dillon unsigned, the team now has the two restricted free agents in the fold, which should give coach Lindy Ruff fewer headaches as he prepares to set his 23-man roster. Dillon is expected to fill a top-four role for the Stars once again this season, likely on the second pairing next to Jordie Benn.

Stars Turn Down Dillon Offer

News: Brenden Dillon's agent revealed that the Stars turned down an identical contract to the one they just gave fellow RFA Cody Eakin, according to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News.
Analysis: That's rough news for both parties with opening night looming on the horizon. According to most accounts the sticking point at this time is term. The team will get something done, but it's not clear if that will be in time for opening night.

Stars, Dillon Still Far Apart On New Deal

News: Brenden Dillon hasn't made much progress in coming to terms on a new contract with the Stars, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The blue line is probably the Stars' greatest weakness as a team, so having a top-four defenseman like Brenden Dillon missing camp is far from a tenable situation. It still seems more likely than not that the Stars will reach an agreement with Dillon before the start of the regular season, but it's no longer the slam dunk that it once appeared to be.

Dillon Without A Deal In Dallas

News: Brenden Dillon, a restricted free agent, still has not signed a contract with Dallas and Dallas GM Jim Nill says that little progress has been made recently, according to Mark Stepneski of NHL.com.
Analysis: A late contract signing, even if Brenden Dillon misses some of camp, shouldn't effect Dillon's fantasy value. They're likely to have a deal done by opening night and Dillon figures to be a prominent part of Dallas' very young defense. One hitch for the team, making it better to get a deal done sooner than later, is that Dillon will still have to clear immigration after signing, meaning that he'll be ineligible to play or practice for a few days after signing.

Dillon Receives Qualifying Offer From Stars

News: Brenden Dillon has received a qualifying offer from the Stars, suggesting that he'll be back in a Dallas jersey next season.
Analysis: No surprises here. Brenden Dillon played 80 games for the Stars last year and was developing nicely into a dependable d-man. Expect him to re-sign and have an expanded role in the 2014-15 season.

Dillon Returns In Game 5 For Stars

News: Brenden Dillon played his first game since April 11, when he sustained a lower-body injury against the Blues on Friday. He logged two shots, a minus-1 rating, and 20:18 of ice time in the loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: Friday was the postseason debut for the 23-year-old Brenden Dillon. With the ability to activate from the blue line while playing a responsible game, he's played a significant role for Dallas during the regular season. However, as a young defenseman he's still got a lot of room to grow and is a bit of a wildcard for fantasy. You may be better served with a known quantity until you've seen Dillon produce in the postseason.

Stars' Dillon A Game-Time Decision For Friday

News: Brenden Dillon (lower body) is viewed as a game-time decision for Friday's Game 5 against the Ducks, Mark Stepneski of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Though Brenden Dillon -- who skated again Thursday -- says that he is feeling better every day, whether he suits up Friday will be up to the Stars' medical staff and coach Lindy Ruff.

Stars' Dillon May Return Friday

News: Coach Lindy Ruff said on Wednesday that Brenden Dillon may return to the lineup on Friday.
Analysis: Brenden Dillon has been practicing and his presence on the blueline would mean a lot to the Stars. Dillon has the ability to activate into the offense, but his presence means less for fantasy than it does for the actual team.

Stars' Dillon Out For Game 4

News: Brenden Dillon (lower body) will not play in Wednesday's Game 4 against the Ducks, Mark Stepneski of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The blueliner recorded six goals and 11 assists in 80 games during the regular season, but hasn't suited up yet in the playoffs. There's a chance he could return for Game 5 on Friday in Anaheim, but we'll likely have a better idea of his status that morning.

Stars' Dillon Iffy For Wednesday

News: Coach Lindy Ruff indicated that Brenden Dillon (lower body) is a "longshot" to play Wednesday against the Ducks, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Analysis: Brenden Dillon took part in Tuesday's optional practice, which is a step in the right direction, but it appears as though a return to action Friday is a more realistic scenario for the blueliner, who last played on April 11.

Stars' Dillon Officially Out Monday

News: Brenden Dillon (lower body) will not rejoin the Stars' lineup for Monday's Game 3 against the Ducks, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Analysis: Brenden Dillon was able to skate before Sunday's practice, but it still looks like he's going to need some more time to recover from the lower-body injury. With the Stars already in a 2-0 hole in the series, it's possible we may not see Dillon again this season if the Ducks are able to clinch over the final two games.

Stars' Dillon Unlikely To Play Game 3

News: Brenden Dillon (lower body) may skate Sunday but is still unlikely to play in Monday's Game 3 against the Ducks, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.
Analysis: Brenden Dillon missed the first two games and is seemingly headed for a third absence, but his potential return to the ice is at least a sign of progress. If he does get back on the ice Sunday, he'll presumably have a decent chance to play in Game 4 or 5 (if necessary).

Stars' Dillon Doesn't Practice Friday

News: Brenden Dillon (lower body) was not a part of Friday's morning skate, according to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News.
Analysis: Brenden Dillon missed Game 1 with a lower-body injury and it appears as though he will miss Game 2 as well.

Stars' Dillon Day-To-Day

News: Brenden Dillon (lower body) remains day-to-day, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Brenden Dillon missed Wednesday's playoff opener against the Ducks and thus remains iffy for Friday's Game 2, given his continued day-to-day status.

Stars' Dillon Absent From Morning Skate

News: Brenden Dillon (lower body) wasn't on the ice for morning skate Wednesday and looks like a game-time decision for Game 1 against the Ducks, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Brenden Dillon was considered likely to play in Game 1 as recently as two days ago, but his inability to participate in practice since that time now has him looking questionable at best. The uncertainty of his injury situation probably makes him a defenseman to avoid in playoff pools.

Stars' Dillon Out For Game 1

News: Brenden Dillon (lower body) will not play in Wednesday's Game 1 against the Ducks.
Analysis: Coach Lindy Ruff noted that Brenden Dillon is not at the point where he's comfortable enough to skate yet, muddying his status for the remainder of the series. Aaron Rome will join the Dallas lineup in his place.

Stars' Dillon Did Not Practice Tuesday

News: Brenden Dillon, though he has been classified as a likely play in Game 1 of the playoffs, did not practice on Tuesday, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: As Heika states, "That's not a good sign," regarding his availability for the start of the playoffs. The Stars will wait and see how he feels during morning skate Wednesday before rendering a decision on his status for Game 1.
