Canes' Faulk Piles Up Stats In Win

News: Justin Faulk notched a shorthanded goal on three shots, a power-play assist, a plus-1 rating, two PIM and five hits in Thursday's win over the Leafs.
Analysis: Another nice stat line for Justin Faulk, who's now accounted for three of Carolina's eight goals over the team's last five games. He's still carrying a minus-13 rating for the year, but his 19 points certainly take the edge off.

Canes' Faulk Pots Goal In Loss

News: Justin Faulk scored the team's lone goal in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Devils.
Analysis: With 16 points in 27 games, Justin Faulk is well on his way to besting his previous career-high of 32 points. He could reach the 50 point plateau, but he also sports a minus-15 rating currently as the rest of his team around him struggles.

Canes' Faulk Assists In Win Over Pens

News: Justin Faulk added a pair of assists during Friday's 4-2 win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Justin Faulk's offensive output now stands at 14 points in 22 games this season, putting him on pace for a career-high 50-point campaign. Faulk has been a real workhorse for the Canes this season, averaging roughly 24 minutes of ice time per game. He also shoots the puck a ton - his 63 shots on goal puts him in the top 10 in that category among NHL defensemen.

Canes' Faulk Registers Six Shots In Loss

News: Justin Faulk recorded six shots on goal in Wednesday's loss to Florida, but was held off the scoresheet for the fourth time in five games.
Analysis: It was a decent outing for Justin Faulk, but the Hurricanes couldn't score on any of their 33 shots Wednesday. Although Faulk has 12 points (two goals) in 21 games this season, he is a minus-4 over his last two games and a minus-9 on the season. Don't worry, however, as Faulk once again led the team in ice time Wednesday (22:57) and is generating lots of offensive chances. His defensive play could use some improvement, but Faulk is a workhorse in Carolina and should record 40-plus points in 2014-15.

Canes' Faulk On Track For Personal Best Season

News: With 12 points in 20 games, Justin Faulk is on pace for a career-high 50 points this season.
Analysis: Justin Faulk continues to lead the Hurricanes in ice time per game with 23:52, including 2:29 on the power play. His emergence as a top-tier NHL defenseman continues, and fantasy owners should take advantage wherever possible.

Canes' Faulk Picks Up Three Points

News: Justin Faulk nabbed a goal and dished out two assists in Monday's 4-1 win over the Flames.
Analysis: Justin Faulk followed up Saturday's two assist effort with three more points on Monday to make it five points in his last two games. He was on the ice for 21:39, about two minutes below his season average but still good enough to lead the team.

Canes' Faulk Adds Another Two Assists

News: Justin Faulk registered two assists and logged a game-high 29:48 of ice time in Saturday's overtime loss to Washington.
Analysis: Justin Faulk has been stepping up lately, recording five points and a plus-3 rating in his last five games. The 22-year-old is on the rise and is the top offensive threat on the blueline in Carolina. Career season is on the way.

Canes' Faulk Scores First Of Season

News: Justin Faulk collected his first goal of the year Tuesday, an unassisted, shorthanded tally in a win over the Jackets.
Analysis: The goal gave Carolina a 3-1 lead at the time, but turned out to be the game-winner. With five points in 11 games, Justin Faulk is a little ahead of his typical scoring pace, but at just 22 years old, he's got offensive upside that's yet to be realized.

Canes' Faulk Notches Two Helpers In Win

News: Justin Faulk picked up his third and fourth assist of the season in Saturday's win over Arizona.
Analysis: Justin Faulk is a workhorse on the blueline, averaging 22:13 of ice time per game and manning the point on the top power-play unit. Faulk's defensive game has struggled, however, as exemplified by his minus-7 rating on the season. The 22-year-old has great offensive instincts and should post another season in the 30-point range.

Canes' Faulk Struggling To Add Offense

News: Justin Faulk has just a single assist through five games this season after being held pointless during Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Winnipeg.
Analysis: Justin Faulk recorded a career-high 32 points last season, including 17 assists. However, given the Hurricanes' current injury-riddled state, it seems unlikely he will put up similar numbers again this year. Much of the team's best forwards either are, or have been, injured this year, including Eric Staal (upper body), Jordan Staal (broken leg), Jeff Skinner (concussion) and Nathan Gerbe (lower body). To his credit, Faulk is seeing his usual amount of ice time (over 23 minutes per game) and recording similar shot totals, however there is simply no one for him to pass the puck to right now. Feel free to stash him on your fantasy bench until his fortunes turn around.

Carolina's Faulk Streaks To Season End

News: Justin Faulk registered two assists in Sunday's season-closing win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Justin Faulk finishes 2013-14 with points in three consecutive games, bringing his total production to five goals and 27 assists over 76 games. Along the way, Faulk signed a six-year contract extension with the Hurricanes, locking him into a long-term spot on the team's top defensive pairing.

Carolina's Faulk Gets Goal, Assist In Victory

News: Justin Faulk contributed a goal and an assist in Thursday's win over the Stars.
Analysis: Justin Faulk potted one of three Carolina goals that came within a five-minute span in the second period, providing the Hurricanes with an insurmountable lead. The goal would go down as a game-winner for Faulk, his first of the season.

Carolina's Faulk Pots Goal, Finishes Plus-3

News: Justin Faulk scored his fourth goal of the season and finished with a plus-3 rating in Tuesday's win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Since inking a six-year, $29 million extension last week, Justin Faulk has two points in his last five games. The young blueliner hasn't yet had the breakout offensive season many projected for him, but the Hurricanes are banking on that materializing once he reaches full maturity during the contract.

Hurricanes Ink Faulk To Six-Year, $29M Deal

News: The Hurricanes signed Justin Faulk to a six-year, $29 million contract extension Monday.
Analysis: Justin Faulk hasn't exactly taken the leap some might have expected this season, but with 24 points in 65 games and a roster spot on the U.S. team during the 2014 Winter Olympics, he's still viewed as one of the best young defensemen in the NHL. The 22-year-old will be counted on to improve his scoring totals in the years to come in order to justify the Hurricanes' large financial commitment.

Canes' Faulk Returns From Illness

News: Justin Faulk (illness) returned to the lineup Friday against the Blackhawks following a one-game absence. He played his usual 21+ minutes and registered three shots on goal.
Analysis: Sounds like whatever kept him sidelined was not an overly serious ailment. Feel free to get him back in your lineups.

Canes' Faulk Out With Illness

News: Justin Faulk missed Tuesday's game against Columbus with an unspecified illness, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: At first glance, this does not appear to be related to the upper-body injury that sidelined Justin Faulk for five games earlier this month, however the team has not released any details yet.  Either way, consider him day-to-day for now and put him on your fantasy bench in favor of a healthier option.

Canes' Faulk (Upper Body) Back In Lineup

News: Justin Faulk (upper body) was back in the lineup for Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Bruins after missing the previous five games. He saw 20:36 of ice time and 27 shifts, but failed to register a point.
Analysis: Justin Faulk was back on the Canes' first defensive pairing with Andrej Sekera, but surprisingly did not see time on the first power-play unit as he normally does. Regardless, he should be fine to activate for fantasy purposes going forward.

Hurricanes' Faulk A Possibility For Saturday

News: Justin Faulk (upper body) could possibly be back in the lineup Saturday vs. the Bruins, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Justin Faulk was apparently close to returning to action Thursday vs. the Sabres, but he ultimately didn't take part in pregame warmups after joining the team for their morning session. Faulk has missed the last five games with the upper-body ailment.

Canes' Faulk Out Again Thursday

News: Justin Faulk (upper body) did not take the ice for pregame warmups and is thus not expected to return for Thursday's game against the Sabres.
Analysis: Justin Faulk is reportedly nearing a return, but will miss a fifth consecutive game Thursday. He may be an option for the Hurricanes as soon as Saturday's game against the Bruins.

Carolina's Faulk Could Play Thursday

News: Justin Faulk (upper body) practiced Wednesday and could be back in the lineup Thursday vs. the Sabres, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Justin Faulk was on the ice again for pregame warmups and could be on the cusp of a return after missing the previous four games with the upper-body injury. We likely won't know officially until after pregame warmups whether or not Faulk will suit up Thursday, making him a risky lineup choice in daily leagues.

Canes' Faulk Back At Practice

News: Justin Faulk (upper body) returned to practice Wednesday, Michael Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: There's no word yet on the blueliner's status for Thursday's game against the Sabres, but we should know more after that day's morning skate. Justin Faulk racked up three goals and 20 assists in 61 games before getting hurt.

Hurricanes' Faulk To Miss 2-3 More Games

News: Coach Kirk Muller said Justin Faulk (upper body) is expected to miss two or three more games, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: This would seem to line up with GM Jim Rutherford's prediction Monday, when he said he anticipated the defenseman to miss about 10 days with the injury. It doesn't sound like Justin Faulk will be out much longer, and the fact that he wasn't placed on injured reserve Thursday would suggest he should be back soon.

Hurricanes' Faulk (Upper Body) To Miss 10 Days

News: GM Jim Rutherford said Justin Faulk (upper body) would likely miss the next 10 days due to injury, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Rutherford was quick to rule out a concussion for the defenseman, but it appears Justin Faulk's injury is severe enough to keep him out for the next five or six games. The U.S. Olympian was held scoreless in his first three games out of the NHL break but totaled three goals and 20 assists over his first 58 contests this season.

Carolina's Faulk Nursing Upper-Body Injury

News: Justin Faulk sustained an upper-body injury in Sunday's loss to the Ducks, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Justin Faulk acquired the injury in the first period, skating only 1:46 before leaving for the night. The Hurricanes will reexamine him over the next couple of days, putting his status in question for Tuesday's game vs. the Sharks at the moment.

Canes' Faulk Chasing Personal Scoring Record

News: With four assists in his last seven games, Justin Faulk is just one point away from his career high of 22, scored two years ago in his 2011-12 rookie season.
Analysis: Justin Faulk has seen consistent top-four minutes for the Canes so far this season, averaging almost 24 minutes per game, including 2:21 on the power play. And it's not hard to see why - not only does he chip in offensively, he is also third on the team in blocked shots with 76, and fifth in hits with 75, so he's doing his job defensively as well, which coaches love. He makes for a decent middle-tier d-man option in medium to deeper formats.
