Canes' Faulk Puts Up Nine Shots In Loss

News: Justin Faulk racked up nine shot attempts, but didn't come away with any points in Monday's loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Justin Faulk took a minus-2 rating on the night, the seventh straight game he's finished with a rating of zero or worse. He's only collected one point during that span, but like what was the case Monday, it hasn't been due to a lack of activity. With 14 goals and 45 points over 72 games this season, Faulk has probably been the MVP of the Hurricanes, and seems to have arrived as an upper-tier fantasy blueliner.

Faulk Carries Canes' Offense In Loss

News: Justin Faulk scored his 13th goal and handed out two power-play assists Tuesday, but it wasn't enough in a 4-3 shootout loss to Columbus.
Analysis: Maybe the 'Canes should have used their young stud blueliner in the shootout, as they went 0-for-3 against the Jackets' Sergei Bobrovsky. He's been one of the brightest spots for the Hurricanes this year, as Justin Faulk has an outstanding 44 points, including 18 power-play points, in 65 games. But he's been particularly good lately, with three goals and five assists in his last seven contests.

Canes' Faulk Leads Way On Power Play

News: Justin Faulk scored the game's opening goal on a power play and added a man-advantage assist later in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: Justin Faulk's got 11 tallies on the year, but he'd been held out of the goal column since Jan. 30 -- a 10-game span. However, he remained productive over that period, tallying seven assists, and he remains on pace for his first 50-point campaign.

Canes' Faulk Moves Into Team Scoring Lead

News: Justin Faulk picked up two assists in Saturday's loss to the Wild. He has five assists in his last three games.
Analysis: With those points, he established a new career mark (34 points). And he also moved into the team scoring lead with those two points -- yes, he's ahead of Eric Staal. He's the one bright spot in an ugly season in Raleigh.

Faulk Leads Hurricanes To Victory

News: Justin Faulk dished out three assists in Saturday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Justin Faulk now has 10 goals and 32 points in 52 games, ranking him 13th in defensemen scoring. Playing on the top power-play unit and averaging a whopping 24:08 of ice time, Faulk has been one of the few bright spots in Carolina this season. At only 22 years of age, the highly skilled offensive defenseman is going to be one of the top fantasy blueliners for many years to come.

Canes' Faulk Keeps Finding Twine

News: Justin Faulk scored his third goal in four games and had six shots on goal in Friday's loss to the Blues.
Analysis: Those saying he shouldn't have been in the all-star game have now gone shockingly quiet. Justin Faulk has racked up five points in his last four games, giving him 10 goals and 29 points in 48 games on the season. His 133 shots on goal are seventh most among all defensemen, making him a lethal threat on the blueline. Considering he's just three points away from surpassing his career high, the 22-year-old should be owned in all formats.

Canes' Faulk Pots Eventual Winner

News: Justin Faulk scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal on a second-period power play and added an assist on Jiri Tlusty's insurance goal in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Lightning.
Analysis: Justin Faulk's strong campaign continues, as he now owns an excellent 28 points in 47 games. He's just four shy of last year's career-high 32, and he should end up with a total in the mid-to-high 40s by the time things are all said and done. He's progressing impressively.

Canes' Faulk: Breakout Season In Progress

News: Justin Faulk had a goal and an assist in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Senators. He was also plus-3.
Analysis: He has a remarkable 26 points in 44 games -- a miracle considering how bad his team is. But his minus-12 rating still hangs like an anchor around his fantasy neck. Then again, not every league counts plus-minus, so that's clearly where his greatest value lies. The breakout continues.

Canes' Faulk Feels Helpful Thursday

News: Justin Faulk dished out a pair of assists -- one on the power play -- and went plus-1 in Thursday's win over Buffalo.
Analysis: He's been clipping along nicely of late, with four points in the last four games on the heels of a five-game scoreless skid. The plus-minus hurts on a pretty bad Carolina team, but Justin Faulk's career is definitely on the rise.

Canes' Faulk Produces On Power Play In Loss

News: Justin Faulk picked up a goal and an assist -- both on the power play -- but finished with a minus-3 rating Tuesday in a 3-2 loss to Nashville.
Analysis: On the bright side, he factored into both Carolina goals; on the dark side, he was on the ice for all three of the Preds' third-period tallies. Justin Faulk has helped fantasy owners out with 23 points in 40 games -- the best scoring pace of his young career -- but his career-worst minus-17 rating is a major drag.

Canes' Faulk Piles Up Stats In Win

News: Justin Faulk notched a shorthanded goal on three shots, a power-play assist, a plus-1 rating, two PIM and five hits in Thursday's win over the Leafs.
Analysis: Another nice stat line for Justin Faulk, who's now accounted for three of Carolina's eight goals over the team's last five games. He's still carrying a minus-13 rating for the year, but his 19 points certainly take the edge off.

Canes' Faulk Pots Goal In Loss

News: Justin Faulk scored the team's lone goal in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Devils.
Analysis: With 16 points in 27 games, Justin Faulk is well on his way to besting his previous career-high of 32 points. He could reach the 50 point plateau, but he also sports a minus-15 rating currently as the rest of his team around him struggles.

Canes' Faulk Assists In Win Over Pens

News: Justin Faulk added a pair of assists during Friday's 4-2 win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Justin Faulk's offensive output now stands at 14 points in 22 games this season, putting him on pace for a career-high 50-point campaign. Faulk has been a real workhorse for the Canes this season, averaging roughly 24 minutes of ice time per game. He also shoots the puck a ton - his 63 shots on goal puts him in the top 10 in that category among NHL defensemen.

Canes' Faulk Registers Six Shots In Loss

News: Justin Faulk recorded six shots on goal in Wednesday's loss to Florida, but was held off the scoresheet for the fourth time in five games.
Analysis: It was a decent outing for Justin Faulk, but the Hurricanes couldn't score on any of their 33 shots Wednesday. Although Faulk has 12 points (two goals) in 21 games this season, he is a minus-4 over his last two games and a minus-9 on the season. Don't worry, however, as Faulk once again led the team in ice time Wednesday (22:57) and is generating lots of offensive chances. His defensive play could use some improvement, but Faulk is a workhorse in Carolina and should record 40-plus points in 2014-15.

Canes' Faulk On Track For Personal Best Season

News: With 12 points in 20 games, Justin Faulk is on pace for a career-high 50 points this season.
Analysis: Justin Faulk continues to lead the Hurricanes in ice time per game with 23:52, including 2:29 on the power play. His emergence as a top-tier NHL defenseman continues, and fantasy owners should take advantage wherever possible.

News: Justin Faulk registered two assists and logged a game-high 29:48 of ice time in Saturday's overtime loss to Washington.

Canes' Faulk Scores First Of Season

News: Justin Faulk collected his first goal of the year Tuesday, an unassisted, shorthanded tally in a win over the Jackets.
Analysis: The goal gave Carolina a 3-1 lead at the time, but turned out to be the game-winner. With five points in 11 games, Justin Faulk is a little ahead of his typical scoring pace, but at just 22 years old, he's got offensive upside that's yet to be realized.

Canes' Faulk Notches Two Helpers In Win

News: Justin Faulk picked up his third and fourth assist of the season in Saturday's win over Arizona.
Analysis: Justin Faulk is a workhorse on the blueline, averaging 22:13 of ice time per game and manning the point on the top power-play unit. Faulk's defensive game has struggled, however, as exemplified by his minus-7 rating on the season. The 22-year-old has great offensive instincts and should post another season in the 30-point range.

Canes' Faulk Struggling To Add Offense

News: Justin Faulk has just a single assist through five games this season after being held pointless during Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Winnipeg.
Analysis: Justin Faulk recorded a career-high 32 points last season, including 17 assists. However, given the Hurricanes' current injury-riddled state, it seems unlikely he will put up similar numbers again this year. Much of the team's best forwards either are, or have been, injured this year, including Eric Staal (upper body), Jordan Staal (broken leg), Jeff Skinner (concussion) and Nathan Gerbe (lower body). To his credit, Faulk is seeing his usual amount of ice time (over 23 minutes per game) and recording similar shot totals, however there is simply no one for him to pass the puck to right now. Feel free to stash him on your fantasy bench until his fortunes turn around.

Carolina's Faulk Pots Goal, Finishes Plus-3

News: Justin Faulk scored his fourth goal of the season and finished with a plus-3 rating in Tuesday's win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Since inking a six-year, $29 million extension last week, Justin Faulk has two points in his last five games. The young blueliner hasn't yet had the breakout offensive season many projected for him, but the Hurricanes are banking on that materializing once he reaches full maturity during the contract.

Hurricanes Ink Faulk To Six-Year, $29M Deal

News: The Hurricanes signed Justin Faulk to a six-year, $29 million contract extension Monday.
Analysis: Justin Faulk hasn't exactly taken the leap some might have expected this season, but with 24 points in 65 games and a roster spot on the U.S. team during the 2014 Winter Olympics, he's still viewed as one of the best young defensemen in the NHL. The 22-year-old will be counted on to improve his scoring totals in the years to come in order to justify the Hurricanes' large financial commitment.

Canes' Faulk Returns From Illness

News: Justin Faulk (illness) returned to the lineup Friday against the Blackhawks following a one-game absence. He played his usual 21+ minutes and registered three shots on goal.
