Rask Notches Two Assists As 'Canes Lose

News: Victor Rask picked up two assists and went plus-2 in Tuesday's loss to Detroit.
Analysis: Well, you certainly can't pin this loss on the line of Victor Rask, Nathan Gerbe and Chris Terry, as they produced all the Carolina offense and were on the bench for Detroit's goals. The strong effort snapped a five-game scoreless skid for Rask, who's had an inconsistent rookie year, but has certainly shown terrific potential.

Canes' Rask Scores In Loss

News: Victor Rask scored the team's lone goal in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Victor Rask has had a strong showing in March, collecting nine points in his last nine contests. The 22-year-old is just a point away from reaching the 30-point plateau in his rookie campaign, and while he holds some value in dynasty leagues, his production hasn't been consistent enough this year to merit consideration in the majority of single-season formats.

Canes' Rask Stands Out In Loss

News: Victor Rask scored a goal, handed out two assists and went plus-3 in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Stars.
Analysis: All the Canes' offense in this one went through the 22-year-old center, who's ripped off six points over a three-game point streak. Considering that he also went plus-3 while nearly the entire rest of his team finished in the minus, this may have been the most impressive game of the Swede's young career so far.

Canes' Rask Helps On Two

News: Victor Rask dished out a pair of assists in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Oilers.
Analysis: Victor Rask is riding a ten game goalless streak, but he's still found a way to contribute in that span as he's picked up four assists in his last five games. The 22-year-old will eventually add more consistent production with regular ice time, but with just 22 points this season he doesn't hold much value in standard fantasy formats.

Canes' Rask Gaining Momentum

News: Victor Rask recorded a power-play assist and skated a season-high 21:27 during Saturday's 5-3 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Since sitting out two games as a healthy scratch, Victor Rask has seen an uptick in his ice time, averaging 17:29 over the past five games, including roughly three minutes on the power play. Rask and his linemates Nathan Gerbe and Andrej Nestrasil were effectively the Canes' second line against the Islanders, bumping Jeff Skinner, Riley Nash and Elias Lindholm down to third-line status. Assuming this trend continues, it represents an opportunity for Rask to play a larger role in the Canes' lineup, so fantasy owners should be prepared to take advantage accordingly.

Canes' Rask Back In Lineup Thursday

News: Victor Rask will play Friday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: After spending the previous two games in the press box as a healthy scratch, Victor Rask is expected to center the Hurricanes' third line in his return to action.

Carolina's Rask A Healthy Scratch In Last Two

News: Victor Rask has been a healthy scratch for the Hurricanes' last two games.
Analysis: After opening February with a point in his first three games, Nash was held off the score sheet in his next two games, during which he went a collective minus-4. With Andrej Nestrasil and Jay McClement proving deserving of additional ice time, coach Bill Peters elected to send Victor Rask to the press box, but it shouldn't become a permanent arrangement for the 21-year-old. Whether it's with the parent club or at AHL Charlotte, Rask needs to play on a regular basis, and the Hurricanes can't afford to let him sit for much longer.

Canes' Rask Slumping Offensively

News: Victor Rask failed to register a point for the third consecutive game Saturday against the Rangers. He also posted a minus-3 rating and had just a single shot on goal.
Analysis: With just 15 points in 49 games so far in his rookie season, Victor Rask is quite clearly still finding his game at the NHL level. He will be a solid top-six forward someday, but for now is still too inconsistent to be counted on in most fantasy formats.

Canes' Rask: Streak At Three Games, Four Points

News: Victor Rask delivered a goal and an assist Saturday in a loss to the Blues. He now has at least a point in three straight games and four points (two goals, two assists) in that span.
Analysis: Here's yet another flash of his future fantasy value, but like just about every other rookie, Victor Rask's game is more about inconsistency than anything else. And that makes him a tough fantasy roll.

Rask Adds Assist In Canes' Loss To Preds

News: Victor Rask assisted on Justin Faulk's power-play goal in the third period of Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Nashville. It was just his 10th point of the season and first in 16 games.
Analysis: So far in his rookie season, the 21-year-old Victor Rask has shown flashes of being the top-six player the Canes hope he will eventually become; however, overall he has not been consistent enough to warrant any real fantasy consideration outside of very deep leagues. For now, he continues to center the Canes' second line in between Nathan Gerbe and Jiri Tlusty. Roll him if you must, but Rask is still learning the ropes on a very weak team, and that rarely adds up to the kinds of qualities you look for in a fantasy player.

Rask Chips In Goal For 'Canes

News: Victor Rask snapped a five-game pointless drought by potting Carolina's lone goal in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Canadiens.
Analysis: With just five goals and 10 points to show for 30 games this season, Victor Rask holds minimal fantasy value. Even those in keeper formats can't be overly excited about Rask, given his modest 39 points in 76 AHL games last season.

Carolina's Rask: Three Points In Last Two Games

News: Victor Rask set up both Carolina goals Saturday in a 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: That means he has three assists in his last two games. It isn't enough for us to recommend him just yet, but it sure has put him on our radar. He should be on yours, too.

Canes Move Rask To Top Line

News: Victor Rask will center the top line between Eric Staal and Jiri Tlusty during Thursday's game against Winnipeg, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Coach Bill Peters experimented with the combination during Monday's win over Calgary and again at practice Wednesday, and will apparently stick with it against the Jets. Following a strong training camp and preseason, Victor Rask only has four points in 14 games to date, however three of those points have come in the last three games. Now, with the recent move to the top line, he will be seeing prime ice time so the opportunites to add to his scoring totals will follow. Keep an eye on him and don't be afraid to pluck him off your waiver wire in anticipation of a points surge.

Canes' Rask Picks Up Two Points In Win

News: Victor Rask scored his second goal of the season and assisted on Elias Lindholm's overtime-winner Friday against Columbus.
Analysis: Currently centering the third line, the 21-year-old has only managed three points (two goals) in 12 games on the season. Although those two goals came in his last three games, Victor Rask won't produce much if he continues to be used in a bottom-six role.

Canes' Rask Gets First Point In Win

News: Victor Rask registered a goal and three shots in 13:44 worth of ice time in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Kings.
Analysis: The goal marked the 21-year-old's first career point, as he saw an over four minute increase of ice time from his last game. He impressed in the preseason, but given his struggles out of the gate and the lack of production by the team in general, Victor Rask doesn't hold a lot of fantasy value.

Canes' Rask Struggling On Top Line

News: Currently centering the Canes' top line in between Jiri Trusty and Alexander Semin, Victor Rask is still looking for his first point of the season.
Analysis: After an impressive training camp and preseason, Victor Rask has struggled out of the gate, with only a minus-5 rating, 12 shots on goal and two PIM through seven games. However, he is probably playing a little higher up in the batting order than he should be, given the injuries to the team's top two centers, Eric and Jordan Staal. Overall, fantasy owners should not expect too much of an impact this season, given his own struggles as well as the current state of the team.

Canes' Rookie Rask Expected To Make Team

News: GM Ron Francis said he expects Victor Rask to win a roster spot following a strong training camp, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Victor Rask was especially impressive during Wednesday's preseason loss to Columbus, registering two goals and an assist while skating on a line with Nathan Gerbe and Zach Boychuk. With the Canes' regular No. 2 center Jordan Staal expected to miss 3-4 months with a broken leg, there is now an opportunity for a guy like Rask to step in and fill the void. In fact, Rask was even practicing as the second-line center with Jeff Skinner and Elias Lindholm on Thursday, so the situation certainly bears monitoring. Rask is currently a great candidate for a late-round sleeper pick in most fantasy formats.

Carolina's Rask Could Be In Line For Roster Spot

News: With Jordan Staal (leg) out indefinitely, Victor Rask's chances of cracking the Hurricanes' opening night roster could get a boost, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: After shining for the Hurricanes during the recent prospects tournament in Traverse City, Mich., Victor Rask has carried over those successes to training camp, making a strong impression on new coach Bill Peters and his staff. The 21-year-old is coming off a quality first professional season for AHL Charlotte, with whom he tallied 16 goals and 23 assists over 76 games. It would still be wise to temper expectations for Rask if he manages to earn a roster spot, since he likely wouldn't be in line for a huge allotment of minutes in his first taste of NHL action.

Canes' Rookie Rask Invited To Training Camp

News: Victor Rask has been invited to the Hurricanes' training camp after impressing the coaching staff at the annual Traverse City prospects tournament, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The 21-year-old Victor Rask will now compete for a roster spot after finishing the tournament with eight points in four games. "[Rask] played well all four games," GM Ron Francis said. "He has very good hockey sense and was good at both ends of the rink, and on special teams. He was consistent, every shift, every game." Bottom line, despite his strong showing thus far, Rask will face some stiff competition in his attempt to crack the Canes' roster. It will be interesting to see how he fares in camp against seasoned NHL veterans. Monitor closely.
