Flyers' Read Scores In Loss

News: Matt Read potted a goal in Sunday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The game was meaningless, but the goal is encouraging. Matt Read has four points over his last five games, and he'll need that warm streak to continue for the Flyers to have a chance at beating the Rangers in the first round of the playoffs.

Flyers' Read Ends Scoring Skid

News: Matt Read tallied a goal and assist in Sunday's win over the Sabres.
Analysis: A game against the terrible Sabres was all Matt Read needed to kick a six-game pointless streak to the curb. The 27-year-old has 21 goals and 17 assists in his third NHL season.

Flyers' Read Scores Goal

News: Matt Read lit the lamp for his 20th goal on the season Monday against the Kings.
Analysis: Matt Read has scored at least 20 goals in his two full seasons, and he could very well set a new career high in that category before this year's out -- he tallied 24 in 2011-12.

Another Point For Flyers' Read

News: Matt Read collected an assist in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win against Chicago.
Analysis: Matt Read has a miniature points streak going -- three straight games. He also has nine points over his last 10 games. Next up for the Flyers is Dallas, a team that Read scored against earlier this year. The Flyers have been hot lately, and this at-home match-up seems to favor them -- and Read.

Flyers' Read Scores Short-Handed

News: Matt Read scored a short-handed goal for the second straight game in Sunday's win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Matt Read now has four short-handed goals this season, which is tied for first in the NHL. Over the past two games, Read has racked up three goals, 10 shots, and a plus-3 rating. He is up to 19 goals and 34 points in 60 games on the year.

Flyers' Read Scores Twice In Win

News: Matt Read scored a short-handed goal and added an even-strength marker in Saturday's win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: This was Matt Read's fourth two-goal game this season, giving him 18 goals and 33 points in 59 games on the year. Read now has seven points in his last seven games, helping the Flyers go 8-2-1 in their last 11 games. He plays on the third line in Philadelphia, but is still a lock for 20 goals every season. Read has now scored three short-handed goals this season, which is tied for fourth in the NHL. The 27-year-old has been showing great chemistry with Sean Couturier, who assisted on both of Read's tallies on Saturday.

Flyers' Read Collects Two Points In Win

News: Matt Read added two assists in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: The assists are a welcome bonus for the cohort of owners who give Matt Read a regular starting nod. Read will have to prove he's capable of more consistent scoring to enlarge that cohort. He's got eight points in his last 10 games -- not shabby, but not blowing anyone's hair back either.

Flyers' Read: Two Points In Blowout Loss

News: Matt Read scored a goal, added an assist, and was the only Flyer aside from Brayden Schenn with a positive rating in Thursday's 7-3 loss to San Jose.
Analysis: It's been another mediocre year for Matt Read, who's got 16 goals, but has been an inconsistent contributor on the offensive end. He does have three goals and five points in his last seven games, though.

Flyers' Read Scores In Win

News: Matt Read scored in the opening minutes of the third period in Monday's 5-2 win over San Jose.
Analysis: The goal sparked a go-ahead, three-goal barrage by the Flyers in just under three minutes. Matt Read has two goals in his last five games; with 15 markers on the year, he's a worthwhile start in a variety of formats.

Flyers' Read Tallies Two In Loss

News: Matt Read scored two goals in Monday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Matt Read has been a pest against the Islanders throughout his career, with 10 goals in 14 contests, against them. Six of his 13 goals this season have come against the Isles. His first goal Monday came while shorthanded, giving Read an extra bump in leagues that reward special-teams tallies.

Flyers' Read Will Play Tuesday

News: Matt Read (concussion) will play Tuesday against the Sabres, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: As expected, Matt Read will be activated in time for Tuesday's game after missing the last six with a concussion. The 27-year-old has 10 goals on the year, but just one since Dec. 4.

Flyers' Read Expected Back Tuesday

News: Matt Read (concussion) is expected to return to action Tuesday vs. the Sabres, Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
Analysis: Matt Read hasn't been activated from injured reserve yet, but the demotion of Tye McGinn to AHL Adirondack would seem to clear the way for his return to the lineup. The forward has been sidelined since Dec. 31 after sustaining the injury in a game against the Flames and may have to earn his way back into a top-six role after the two-week layoff.

Flyers' Read Placed On IR

News: Matt Read (concussion) has been placed on injured reserve.
Analysis: Matt Read was able to practice in a light capacity Friday, but he'd already been ruled out for the weekend as he remains in the league's concussion protocol. He shouldn't be considered close to returning until he's back practicing in full with the team.

Flyers Confirm Concussion For Read

News: GM Paul Holmgren revealed that Matt Read's upper-body injury is a concussion, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Matt Read apparently passed his initial baseline test, but he's made little progress since then, as he has yet to return to practice for the Flyers. The winger has officially been ruled out for the weekend, and his absence could stretch into next week if his concussion symptoms fail to show any signs of abating.

Flyers' Read To Miss Fourth Straight

News: Matt Read (upper body) will not play Wednesday vs. the Canadiens, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: The upper-body injury costs Matt Read his fourth straight game. Although he remains day-to-day, the Flyers have been rather mum on his recovery process thus far, with no indication that he's resumed practicing yet. He can't necessarily be counted on to return over the weekend.

Read Out Saturday For Flyers

News: Matt Read (upper body) will not play Saturday vs. the Coyotes, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Although Matt Read was originally regarded as a game-time decision for Saturday, coach Craig Berube elected to hold the forward out shortly after morning skate. With both Read and Michael Raffl (concussion) unavailable Saturday, the Flyers will be forced to dramatically reshuffle their lines.

Flyers' Read A Game-Time Call Saturday

News: Matt Read (upper body) will be a game-time decision for Saturday's game against the Coyotes, Sarah Baicker of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Matt Read has missed the past two games for the Flyers and is questionable for Saturday as well. He has 19 points on 10 goals and nine assists for the Flyers this season. Check on his status close to game-time Saturday.

Flyers' Read Out Thursday Against Avs

News: Matt Read (upper body) will not play Thursday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Coach Craig Berube said just Wednesday that Matt Read was held out from returning from Tuesday's game for precautionary reasons and that he would likely be able to go against Colorado. However, it seems Read needed more time to recover. There seems to be some optimism that he could be ready to go Saturday against the Coyotes.

News: Matt Read (upper body) is expected to play Thursday against the Avalanche, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: According to coach Craig Berube, Matt Read was held out from returning to Tuesday's game for precautionary reasons. It seems the issue was indeed minor, as he's expected to be a go come Thursday.

Flyers' Read Could Play Thursday

News: Matt Read (upper body) could be available for Thursday's game, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Coach Craig Berube was adamant Matt Read's injury wasn't anything more than a day-to-day issue, so it looks like he won't be forced to miss much time, if any at all. Look for the Flyers to provide an update on his availability Thursday following morning skate.

Flyers' Read Exits Tuesday's Game

News: Matt Read won't return to Tuesday's game against the Flames due to an upper-body injury, Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
Analysis: Matt Read, who saw 6:24 worth of ice time prior to his exit from Tuesday's contest, entered the game with 10 goals and 19 points to go along with a minus-7 rating in 38 games.

Read Scores, Assists As Flyers Win

News: Matt Read picked up a goal and an assist in Tuesday's win over the Capitals.
Analysis: One game after snapping a four-game pointless slump with an assist, Matt Read got right back at it with his first goal -- and his first time with a positive plus-minus -- since Dec. 4. He went plus-1 Tuesday after going minus-8 over his prior five games.

Flyers' Read Scores Three Points In Win

News: Matt Read potted a goal and supplied two helpers in Wednesday's win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: The game was a well-timed breakthrough for Matt Read, who had gone scoreless over the previous four games. Even with a poor month of October, he's still on pace to surpass last season's 11 goals in fewer games, though his assist totals have lagged further behind thus far.

Flyers' Read Set To Play Friday

News: Matt Read (lower body) was on the ice for pregame warmups and appears set to play Friday vs. the Jets, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Matt Read completed line rushes with his usual mates in Steve Downie and Sean Couturier and looks like he will draw back into the lineup after missing one game with the injury. Prior to suffering the injury, Read put together a nice hot streak, scoring four goals over his last three games.

Flyers' Read Out Wednesday

News: Matt Read (lower body) will not play Wednesday against the Lightning.
Analysis: It's not clear when or how Matt Read, who is tied for the team lead with eight goals, was injured, but the team lists him as day-to-day with the ailment. Michael Raffl figures to jump up to the third line in his absence.
