Preds' Smith Ends Year On Explosive Note

News: Craig Smith exploded for two goals and two assists in Sunday's season-closing 7-3 win over the Wild.
Analysis: Craig Smith ends his third season in NHL on a high note, as he scored in each of his last four games, accumulating four goals and four assists in total during that span. The impressive finish allowed him to set career-bests across just about every offensive category, and has him positioned to fill a feature role with the Predators in 2014-15, perhaps even as a member of the top line.

Preds' Smith Assists In Win Over Sabres

News: Craig Smith recorded an assist during Thursday's 6-1 romp over the Sabres, his third helper in his last four games.
Analysis: Craig Smith has been a steady producer for the Preds so far this season, currently playing on the second line with Gabriel Bourque and rookie Calle Jarnkrok. He now has 20 goals and 23 assists on the season -- both career highs -- which are enough to make him a decent fantasy play in medium to deeper formats.

Preds' Smith Reaches 20 Goals For First Time

News: Craig Smith scored a goal and added an assist in Tuesday's win over the Sabres, giving him 20 goals and 40 points for the season.
Analysis: This is Craig Smith's first time to 20 goals and 40 points, but it most likely won't be his last. The 24-year-old is a heady player with solid offensive upside -- he could develop into a 60-point man by next year.

Preds' Smith Snaps Scoring Slump

News: Craig Smith scored his 19th goal of the season in Monday's overtime win over the Senators.
Analysis: Just two minutes after Nick Spaling kicked off the Preds' scoring eight minutes into the second period, Craig Smith re-directed a shot from Mattias Ekholm into the net to give the Preds a 2-0 lead. It was his first goal since Feb. 6 and just his second point since the Olympic break.

Preds' Smith On Verge Of Record Season

News: Craig Smith went into the Olympic break with 36 points in 56 games, tying his output from his rookie campaign two seasons ago.
Analysis: Following a three-game absence in early December, Craig Smith has been a very consistent contributor for the Preds with 21 points in his last 27 games. Furthermore, he has not gone more than two games without a point over that stretch. If he's not in your fantasy lineup once NHL play resumes, go see if you can pluck him from your league's waiver wire - he makes for a great pickup right now.

Preds' Smith Helps Out In Win

News: Craig Smith collected two assists in Tuesday's win over Winnipeg.
Analysis: He's in the midst of a very solid road trip, having tallied four points in as many games on the Preds' current swing through Canada, and remains a very useful fantasy asset in deeper formats.

Preds' Smith Gets Pair Of Points Thursday

News: Craig Smith had a goal and assist in Thursday's loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: After a disappointing sophomore season, Craig Smith has emerged as one of the Predators' most talented scorers, compiling 13 goals and 14 assists in 42 games. With the Predators seemingly out of the running for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, look for the 24-year-old to receive a featured role the rest of the way, as the team appears to view Smith as a major building block for the future.

Predators' Smith Tallies Twice In Loss

News: Craig Smith extended his point streak to three games on Monday, scoring the only two Nashville goals in a 6-2 loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: Craig Smith is on pace for a career-high season and now has 21 points in 34 games. He scored two goals on Monday for the second time in three games. One of those tallies against Boston came with the man advantage, as Smith now has four power-play markers on the season.

Preds' Smith Returns From Injury To Help Defeat Sharks

News: Craig Smith returned from a three-game absence (flu and healthy scratch) to help the Preds defeat the Sharks 3-2 on Saturday, assisting on Roman Josi's second-period power-play goal.
Analysis: Craig Smith played saw his usual 14½ minutes of ice time, dished out four hits and had two shots on goal. It appears safe to get him back into your fantasy lineups at this time.

News: Craig Smith (illness) will return to the lineup Saturday vs. the Sharks, Josh Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Craig Smith will draw back in after missing the previous three games for the Predators. In spite of his recent setback, Smith is still tied for third in scoring for the team with 15 points in 29 games.

Preds' Smith To Be Game-Time Decision

News: Craig Smith skated this morning and will be a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Stars.
Analysis: Craig Smith was scratched from Tuesday's game against the Rangers due to flu-like symptoms. He will be evaluated by coach Barry Trotz before pregame warmups to determine his availability.

Preds' Smith Will Not Play Thursday

News: Craig Smith (illness) will not play Thursday against the Stars, Jim Diamond of the Franklin Examiner reports.
Analysis: It's the second straight game he'll miss on account of the illness, and the third straight overall after he was a healthy scratch last Saturday against the Capitals. Craig Smith did join the Predators on the ice for pregame warmups, so it appears he could be an option for Saturday's contest against the Sharks.

Preds' Smith Dealing With Illness

News: Craig Smith is dealing with flu-like symptoms and is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Craig Smith was a healthy scratch in the Predators' most recent game due to his struggles of late, but had been expected to get back in the lineup Tuesday before the illness set in. Coach Barry Trotz will check in with him prior to pregame warmups to see if he can give it a go Tuesday before finalizing his lines for the game.

Preds' Smith To Play Tuesday After Saturday Scratch

News: Craig Smith, who served as a healthy scratch Saturday against the Capitals, will be back in the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Craig Smith, who is the team's second-leading scorer (15 points in 29 games), had gone pointless in his previous five games, prompting coach Barry Trotz to sit him out for a game in an attempt to light a fire under him. "[Smith]'s going to be back in the lineup [Tuesday] and he's going to be fine," Trotz said. At this point, it appears safe to start Smith as you normally would.

Big Game For Preds' Smith

News: Craig Smith scored two goals -- including the game-winner -- and assisted on another in Thursday's win over the Leafs.
Analysis: That's two three-point games for Craig Smith in the last three contests, as his offensive game seems to be suddenly coming to life after a stone-cold start to the year. He's worth a speculative add right now.

Preds' Smith: Three Points Against Hawks

News: Craig Smith scored a goal and added two assists in Saturday's 7-2 win over Chicago. The three points matched his career high.
Analysis: He'd had just two points in his previous 10 games, so this outburst was sorely overdue. He showed tremendous promise as a rookie (36 points in 72 games), so we're still hoping he can grow his game.

Preds' Smith Pots OT Winner

News: Craig Smith scored the game-winning goal Thursday in overtime against the Jets.
Analysis: It was just his second goal of the season, but Craig Smith's been highly active on the offensive end this year, putting 34 shots on goal in 11 games. There's offensive upside here for Smith, who appears to be finally getting his game back after a season-plus of struggles.

Preds' Smith Off To Slow Start

News: Craig Smith assisted on Ryan Ellis' game-winning goal in the third period of Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Islanders. It was just his second point in five games so far this season.
Analysis: While the helper was nice to see, Craig Smith's ice time of 12:21 against the Isles was the lowest he's seen so far this season, compared to the 18:14 he saw in the Preds' first game against the Blues. Sunday was also the first game he didn't spend any time on the power play. So again, while it was nice to see him hit the scoresheet, his TOI (time on ice) numbers are going in the wrong direction. Monitor closely.

Preds Recall Smith From AHL

News: Craig Smith has been recalled from AHL Milwaukee, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Craig Smith, who was missed the past four games while on a conditioning assignment, posted five points (1G, 4A) in four games during his week with the Admirals. He should be back in the Preds' lineup Saturday against the Avalanche, but you might want to wait until you see his name in a box score before activating him.

Preds' Smith On Conditioning Assignment

News: Craig Smith has been assigned to AHL Milwaukee on a conditioning assignment, the Predators' official site reports.
Analysis: Craig Smith, who last suited up for the Preds on March 19, will get a chance to see plenty of ice time with the Admirals out of the gate, as they are slated to play games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Preds' Smith Struggling Offensively

News: Craig Smith has just six points (3G, 3A) in 25 games so far this season.
Analysis: Craig Smith is undergoing the dreaded sophomore slump this year after registering 36 points in 72 games during last year's rookie season. He is just not a consistent fantasy scoring option right now - look elsewhere.

Preds' Smith Finally Nets One

News: It took him 17 games, but Craig Smith finally notched his first goal of the year Tuesday, opening the scoring on a first-period power play in an overtime win over the Wings.
Analysis: Craig Smith is a curious case. He put up an impressive 17 points in his first 24 NHL games last year, and since then has played 65 games, spanning last season and this season, in which he's totaled just 22 points. Perhaps he's finally finding his scoring touch again, though; he did also have an assist in Sunday's loss to Colorado.

Preds' Smith Coming Around After Slow Start

News: Smith scored the winning shootout goal Saturday against the Sharks, in what coach Barry Trotz considered to be his best game of the season so far, reports the Tennessean. "[Smith]'s coming. We need him to come," Predators coach Barry Trotz said. "Now he's starting to skate. He's looking really good like the Craig Smith we know from last year. The shootout goal helped. That was a sick move he pulled on Niemi. It was great."
Analysis: Despite the shootout goal Saturday, Craig Smith still has yet to find the scoresheet in regulation - a stark contrast to last season when he had 14 points in his first 15 games and was skating on the Preds' first line. Saturday's game sounds like it might be a turning point for Smith, but he'll need to start producing output if he wants to be a bigger part of the Preds' offensive attack. For now, he is seeing roughly 13 minutes of ice time per night playing on the third line with Nick Spaling and Matt Halischuk.
