Preds' Smith Assists On Two

News: Craig Smith provided an assist on both of the club's goals in Sunday's Game 3 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Although the Predators find themselves down in the series, Craig Smith has been fantastic thus far as he's picked up five points -- all of which have come in the last two games. The 25-year-old racked up another six shots Sunday to bring his playoff total to 16 in just three games as he figures to be one of the top point-producing options for Nashville going forward.

Smith Powers Preds In Game 2 Win

News: Craig Smith scored a pair of goals, dished out an assist and fired four shots on goal in Friday's Game 2 victory over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: A monsterous performance from Craig Smith, who was credited with the game-winning goal Friday. The 25-year-old is off to a hot start in the playoffs, firing 10 shots on goal in his first two games. While he lacks playoff experience, Smith scored 23 goals in the regular season and plays a key role for the Predators on their first line and top power-play unit.

Preds' Smith Adds Helper In Loss To Avs

News: Craig Smith registered a power-play assist during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Colorado. He also fired four shots on goal in 16:44 of ice time.
Analysis: With 43 points in 80 games this season, Craig Smith has taken a step back offensively from last year's 52-point effort. However, with the addition of the likes of Mike Ribeiro and James Neal this season, he's no longer one of the Preds' big guns, as evidenced by the dip in his ice time from 16:24 last year to 15:47 currently. Overall, he's still a solid top-six forward and has plenty of value in most fantasy formats - just don't overpay to get him next year.

Preds' Smith Nets PPG In Win

News: Craig Smith potted his sixth power-play goal of the season in Saturday's win over the Kings.
Analysis: That's 22 goals and 40 points in 70 games for Craig Smith, who is also sporting a plus-11 rating. The second-liner has been held off the scoresheet just three times in his last 10 games, making him a safe and reliable fantasy option. Sitting among the top-40 NHL goal-scorers, Smith is a solid sniper who can be depended on in most fantasy formats.

Preds' Smith Thriving On Top Line

News: Craig Smith failed to crack the scoresheet in Monday's 2-1 OT win over the Coyotes; however, he did register five hits and four shots on goal.
Analysis: Craig Smith still has 12 points in his past 13 games, so don't be too discouraged by this one-game blip. He is once again thriving on the Preds' top line alongside Mike Ribeiro and Filip Forsberg, so keep him rolling.

Preds' Smith Pots 20th In Loss

News: Craig Smith netted his 20th goal of the season in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Wild.
Analysis: Craig Smith is on track to fall short of last year's career-high total of 52 points, but he's at least in the midst of his hottest run of production of the season. He's accumulated six goals and two assists in his last seven games, making him a trendy waiver wire addition in recent days.

Preds' Smith Beginning To Sizzle

News: Craig Smith captured an assist and attempted a season-high nine shots in Thursday's loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Craig Smith didn't find twine in this one, but his high shot total offers further encouragement that his production is trending upward. In his previous two games, Smith compiled three goals and an assist while putting seven shots on net.

Preds' Smith Heating Up Again

News: Craig Smith scored a pair of goals -- one on the power play -- Tuesday in a 5-1 victory over the Sharks.
Analysis: That's his second straight two-point effort following an eight-game scoring drought, though Craig Smith's season numbers are still lingering below last year's level. He'd need 21 points in the 25 games the Preds have left to match last season's 52-point output.

Preds' Smith Snaps Eight-Game Drought

News: Craig Smith snapped his eight-game scoring slump with a goal and an assist on Saturday night. He now has 15 goals and 14 assists in 56 games this season.
Analysis: The Preds bolstered its offence last offseason and Craig Smith hasn't had to be the go-to guy this season. And he hasn't. He's well off his 52-point pace from last year. This is just his fourth season and it remains to be seen if he's actually falling into a high-low, high-low annual production cycle. Keeper leaguers will keep watch on that; single year owners may find other options.

Preds' Smith Enduring Scoring Drought

News: Craig Smith extended his current scoring drought to eight games during Thursday's 3-1 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Back in December, with James Neal out of the lineup with an injury, Craig Smith was promoted to the top line alongside Mike Ribeiro and Filip Forsberg, and the move paid off with Smith notching five points in six games to close out the month. Since then, however, he's shown little chemistry with his new linemates, recording just seven points (3G, 4A) in 19 games since the start of January. Ribeiro and Forsberg, meanwhile, have been on fire, with 15 points apiece over that same stretch. The good news is, the Preds are winning games, which may be prompting coach Peter Laviolette to avoid tinkering with his line combinations too much. As such, Smith's spot on the top line appears safe for now, but he may wind up getting bumped to a lower line if his cold streak continues. Monitor closely.

Preds' Smith Bags Game-Winner

News: Craig Smith scored the game-winning goal in Tuesday's overtime victory over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Craig Smith claimed first star honors after beating Avs goalie Semyon Varlamov on a breakaway at the 2:46 mark of the extra period. It's the 14th goal of the season for the 25-year-old, who ranks fourth on the team in that category.

Preds' Smith Contributes Two Points On Power Play

News: Craig Smith potted a power-play goal and added a power-play assist in Tuesday's win over the Canucks, snapping a three-game scoreless skid.
Analysis: He'd had just three power-play points -- all goals -- this season prior to Tuesday's game, so this is a big one for Craig Smith, who's seen his stats lag this year despite the Predators' wild success. He still owns a pretty modest 24 points in 42 games, putting him on pace to finish in the mid-40s, which would represent a step back from last season's 52. Essentially all of the deficit has been in assists, as Smith has only 11 of those to accompany his 13 goals; he finished with more assists than goals in each of his first three NHL seasons, so that'll probably flip back by the end of this campaign.

Preds' C. Smith Cashes In On Top-Line Opportunity

News: Craig Smith tallied his 12th goal of the season and attempted six shots over his 17:32 of ice time in Sunday's loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: Craig Smith was elevated to a top-line role for the Preds' two weekend contests while James Neal was out with a lower-body injury, notching a point in each match. Neal's ailment isn't believed to be a long-term concern at this point, but Smith may be worth a pickup on speculation alone. He had shown some signs of heating up prior to his top-line promotion, tallying four goals an assist in his preceding six games.

Preds' Smith Pots Two

News: Craig Smith scored twice in Monday's 5-1 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: After going five straight games without a point, Craig Smith now has four in his last two contests. Through 32 games he now has 10 goals and nine assists, and while the 25-year-old likely won't match last season's 52-point effort, he could still surpass the 40-point mark by the end of the year.

Preds' Smith Snaps Scoring Drought

News: Craig Smith cracked the scoresheet for the first time in six games Saturday, notching a goal and an assist in the Preds' 6-5 OT win over the Wild. He also fired seven shots on goal and saw 18:44 in ice time.
Analysis: With James Neal out with an undisclosed illness, Craig Smith was promoted to the top line alongside Mike Ribeiro and Filip Forsberg, and the move paid instant dividends for coach Peter Laviolette. Enjoy the scoring surge while it lasts, as once Neal is ready to return, Smith will no doubt be shifted back to his usual second-line status. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain his productivity once that happens.

Preds' Smith Notches Two Points In Win

News: Craig Smith gathered a goal and an assist in Tuesday's shootout win over the Kings, finishing plus-1 with four shots on goal and two takeaways.
Analysis: Craig Smith's been rolling along nicely of late, with two goals, three helpers, a plus-5 rating, six PIM and 21 shots on goal over the last five games. He's still a decent bit short of last season's scoring pace, but things are definitely coming along.

Preds' Smith Strikes For Game-Winner

News: Craig Smith notched the game-winning goal Saturday against Winnipeg.
Analysis: Although he is skating on the third line, Craig Smith still logged 15:30 of ice time Saturday, picking up his sixth goal of the season. Smith has produced a decent nine points in 17 games this season, putting him on pace to hit the 25-goal mark for the first time in his career. The 25-year-old has built off the success of his career 52-point season in 2013-14 and is emerging as a reliable secondary scorer.

Preds' Smith Finds Twine Twice Wednesday

News: Craig Smith potted his second and third goals of the year in Wedneday's 4-1 win over the Oilers. He also fired five shots on net and skated to a plus-1.
Analysis: Craig Smith is enjoying time on a surprisingly capable second line with Derek Roy and Matt Cullen, who tallied an assist each on Smith's goals. The fourth-year NHLer quietly racked up 24 goals and 28 assists while firing 216 shots on goal last season, and he seems primed to best those numbers with the first line of James Neal, Mike Ribeiro and Filip Forsberg taking some of the heat off him.

Smith Tallies Two Helpers For Preds

News: Craig Smith tallied a pair of assists, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's shootout loss to Calgary.
Analysis: Craig Smith had the secondary helpers on both Nashville goals, so it's not the most impressive showing of all time, but it still gives him three points and a plus-3 rating through three games this year. Coming off a breakout 52-point season, Smith is going to be a big part of whatever the Preds can do on offense. He skated 17:23 on Tuesday.

Preds' Smith Notches Power-Play Goal

News: Craig Smith tallied a power-play goal in Thursday's win over the Senators.
Analysis: Craig Smith's marker under two minutes into the third period keyed the Preds' comeback victory, as Shea Weber and Eric Nystrom would follow in the next 10 minutes with goals of their own. The 25-year-old saw only 13:45 of ice time in the contest, and a relatively low minutes total could be a legitimate concern toward his chances of surpassing last season's 52-point production.

Preds' Smith Looking Good In Preseason

News: Craig Smith scored his second goal of the preseason during a 2-1 split-squad win over the Panthers on Saturday.
Analysis: Craig Smith appears to be picking up where he left off after closing out the 2013-14 season with eight points in his last four games. So far in the preseason, Smith has looked awfully good skating with Derek Roy and Colin Wilson, a combination that projects as the Preds' second line once the regular season begins. Smith makes for a good mid- to late-round selection in most fantasy formats.

Preds' Smith Ends Year On Explosive Note

News: Craig Smith exploded for two goals and two assists in Sunday's season-closing 7-3 win over the Wild.
Analysis: Craig Smith ends his third season in NHL on a high note, as he scored in each of his last four games, accumulating four goals and four assists in total during that span. The impressive finish allowed him to set career-bests across just about every offensive category, and has him positioned to fill a feature role with the Predators in 2014-15, perhaps even as a member of the top line.

Preds' Smith Assists In Win Over Sabres

News: Craig Smith recorded an assist during Thursday's 6-1 romp over the Sabres, his third helper in his last four games.
Analysis: Craig Smith has been a steady producer for the Preds so far this season, currently playing on the second line with Gabriel Bourque and rookie Calle Jarnkrok. He now has 20 goals and 23 assists on the season -- both career highs -- which are enough to make him a decent fantasy play in medium to deeper formats.

Preds' Smith Reaches 20 Goals For First Time

News: Craig Smith scored a goal and added an assist in Tuesday's win over the Sabres, giving him 20 goals and 40 points for the season.
Analysis: This is Craig Smith's first time to 20 goals and 40 points, but it most likely won't be his last. The 24-year-old is a heady player with solid offensive upside -- he could develop into a 60-point man by next year.

Preds' Smith Snaps Scoring Slump

News: Craig Smith scored his 19th goal of the season in Monday's overtime win over the Senators.
Analysis: Just two minutes after Nick Spaling kicked off the Preds' scoring eight minutes into the second period, Craig Smith re-directed a shot from Mattias Ekholm into the net to give the Preds a 2-0 lead. It was his first goal since Feb. 6 and just his second point since the Olympic break.
