Isles' Strome: Three Points In Last Eight

News: Ryan Strome picked up his 14th assist of the season in Saturday's win over the Blackhawks. He finished plus-2.
Analysis: He had been demoted to the fourth line, ostensibly to improve his play on the defensive side of the puck. So the plus-2 finish is nice to see. He has already surpassed his output from last season and is on pace -- should he get pushed back up to a scoring line -- for a mid-50s finish. This guy's future is bright. But his "right now" is a bit sketchy -- three points in eight games will do that for a guy. Keep him benched until he moves back up the lineup.

Isles' Strome To Center Fourth Line

News: Ryan Strome will center the fourth line for the immediate future, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Ryan Strome has been having a breakout season so demoting him to the fourth line is a curious move by the Islanders. You would think they would want to nurture their top prospects, not put them on a checking line. Capuano is trying to paint it as a solid move, stating that "Strome can play with anyone" but having Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin as your wings will certainly stifle anyone's offensive creativity.

Isles' Strome Adds Two Assists Wednesday

News: Ryan Strome picked up two assists in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: The 21-year-old center was the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, and looks like he could be a productive player for years to come. This is his first full season in the NHL, and his four goals and 13 assists through 22 games are certainly impressive.

Isles' Strome Continues To Roll

News: Ryan Strome potted another goal and added a pair of assists while skating to a plus-2 rating in Friday's 5-4 shootout win over the Penguins.
Analysis: That's four goals and seven points in the last five games for Ryan Strome, who is clearly enjoying life centering a line between Anders Lee and Josh Bailey. The Islanders have a surprisingly deep -- and fluid -- top-nine forward corps, so look for Strome to ascend the depth chart both at even strength and on the power play if he continues to pile up points.

Isles' Strome Finding Net With More Regularity

News: Ryan Strome netted the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 5-2 victory over the Bolts.
Analysis: After playing a setup role for his teammates for most of the first few weeks of the season, Ryan Strome has been looking for his own shot more frequently of late, and he's getting results. Strome, who went without a goal in his first 14 games of the season, now has found the net three times in the last four contests.

Strome Gets Two Points For Isles

News: Ryan Strome scored his first goal of the year and added his ninth assist in Tuesday's 6-0 rout of the Avalanche.
Analysis: Ryan Strome's known more for his passing than his shooting, but he set a season high with four shots on goal Tuesday. Despite his lack of shooting prowess early on this year, he's got 10 points in 15 games -- a pretty respectable pace for a 21-year-old, and he's certainly got upside from there.

Assists Piling Up For Islanders' Strome

News: Ryan Strome assisted on Brock Nelson's second-period goal in Saturday's win over the Stars.
Analysis: Nelson's early-season breakout has captured most of the headlines with regards to the Isles' potent offensive play, but Ryan Strome has played a critical supporting role in those successes. In addition to assisting on two of his linemate's five goals, Strome has set up five more Islander scores this season, putting him at close to point-per-game level of production. Strome is still searching for his first goal, but his work as a distributor has quelled any doubts about his readiness for a consistent NHL role.

Isles' Strome Showing Playmaking Skills

News: Ryan Strome dished out two assists in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.
Analysis: That's four helpers in three games for Ryan Strome, who's clicking well on the second line with Mikhail Grabovski and Brock Nelson. He's got elite playmaking skills, as evidenced by the 36 assists he dished out in 37 games for AHL Bridgeport last season. However, we'd like to see Strome put some more shots on goal (he's got just seven so far) to add some balance to his point total.

Isles' Strome Tallies Two Helpers In Friday's Win

News: Ryan Strome racked up a pair of assists in Friday's season-opening win over Carolina.
Analysis: Ryan Strome looked good on the second line Friday, finding chemistry with Mikhail Grabovski and rookie Brock Nelson, who had a game-high four points. Strome finished the night a plus-2, recording two shots on goal in 12:11 of ice time. While the 21-year-old center isn't a part of the Isles' top power-play unit, he is counted on as one of the key contributors to the second unit. Strome is destined to improve on the 18 points he recorded in his first NHL season in 2013-14. Twenty goals aren't out of the question, especially if this second line continues to mesh.

Isles' Strome Makes Roster

News: Ryan Strome has made the Islanders' Opening Night roster.
Analysis: Though a natural center, Ryan Strome looks set to open the season at right wing, due to the Islanders' overabundance of talent down the middle. He's expected to play on the second line with Brock Nelson and Mikhail Grabovski, while also seeing time on the Islanders' second power-play unit. The former No. 5 overall pick may be worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues.

Isles' Strome Could Start Season In The AHL

News: Ryan Strome could begin the season in the AHL, according to Newsday.
Analysis: The reason for this has nothing to do with Ryan Strome's play but he could be caught in a numbers game as the Isles are deep at forward but only Strome and Anders Lee can be sent to the AHL without passing through waivers. Now a trade is always a possibility also. The Isles could always move a forward to a team (Boston, Chicago) that is having salary cap problems and may want to deal a defenseman. Strome could also end up on the top line with John Tavares and Kyle Okposo. Islanders training camp should be an interesting one.

Isles' Strome Plays Wing

News: Ryan Strome played wing versus the Canadiens on Thursday, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: While on its own this position change is not all that important, it could show that the Islanders are willing to move Ryan Strome to wing next season in order to get him on one of the top two lines. As it stands now, the Isles' top two centers are John Tavares and Frans Nielsen, and Strome can better reach his potential by playing with talented forwards.

Isles' Strome Scores In Second Straight

News: Ryan Strome scored one of the Islanders' two goals in Friday's win over New Jersey and also registered the winning shootout goal.
Analysis: Ryan Strome scored against Montreal on Thursday and again Friday against New Jersey, a power-play marker. He's still more potential than production at this point of his career, but he's one to keep an eye on next season.

Isles' Strome Tallies Power-Play Goal

News: Ryan Strome broke a scoreless tie with 4:55 remaining in the third period Thursday in Montreal, potting a power-play goal that held up as the game-winner.
Analysis: The goal snapped a three-game pointless slump for Ryan Strome and was his first time finding twine in two weeks, as he last scored March 27. Don't be fooled by his meager 17 points on the year -- Strome has big upside, and he could start realizing it as soon as next season.

Isles' Strome Collects Two Helpers Wednesday

News: Ryan Strome picked up two assists in Wednesday night's win over the Senators.
Analysis: The former fifth overall pick has played just 31 career NHL games, but has started to settle in and find his scoring touch of late. His two points Wednesday give him six in his last five games, and a line of 5/11/16 on the season.

Effective Game For Isles' Strome

News: Ryan Strome dished out two assists and went plus-4 in Tuesday's victory over Carolina, though he went just 3-for-12 on faceoffs.
Analysis: Ryan Strome's shown some flashes, particularly lately, of the player he's going to be one day. He has eight points in his last 12 games, offering some utility in deeper formats, but obviously his value is greatest in keeper leagues.

Isles' Strome Gets Goal In Comeback Win

News: Ryan Strome scored a power-play goal in Monday's 7-4 victory over the Canucks.
Analysis: After getting off to a slow start in his first extended action with the Islanders earlier this season, Ryan Strome has settled in nicely since being recalled following the Olympic break. He has five points in his last six games with the parent club.

Isles Recall Strome

News: The Islanders recalled Ryan Strome from AHL Bridgeport on Monday.
Analysis: Ryan Strome played 15 games with the Islanders earlier this season, and recorded one goal and three assists over that span. He has also racked up 13 goals and 36 assists in 37 games with Bridgeport to date.

Strome Expected To Return To Isles After Olympics

News: Ryan Strome is expected to return to the Islanders once the season picks up again after the Olympics, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Ryan Strome was only sent down in mid-January so that he would be eligible to play in the AHL during the Olympics. With Frans Nielsen expected to miss at least the first week of games after the Olympics, Strome could find himself centering the second line.

Isles Send Strome Back To Bridgeport

News: Ryan Strome was returned to AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: The 20-year-old didn't make enough of an impact to justify his job as the third-line center, scoring only four points in 15 games. He'll look to hone is development in the minors for a little while longer and will probably get another opportunity with the Islanders before the season draws to a close.

Isles' Strome Struggling To Score

News: Ryan Strome has one goal and three assists over 15 games with the Islanders this season.
Analysis: Installed on the third line after he was recalled from AHL Bridgeport in mid-December, Ryan Strome hasn't really made the splash some might have expected the former fifth overall pick to make. Still just 20 years old, Strome might not emerge as a star this season, but he certainly has the capability of becoming one in the years to come. He's a more intriguing commodity in keeper leagues at this time.

Isles' Strome Makes Debut

News: Ryan Strome fired two shots in 14:42 Saturday against Montreal. It was his NHL debut.
Analysis: No worries about no points -- the Isles lost 1-0 in OT, so no one hit the board. He's a huge-upside player who's young, so he'll likely be a bit inconsistent. But that's tolerable with an upside as high as his.

Strome Now To Make Isles Debut Saturday

News: Ryan Strome will make his Islanders debut Saturday, according to Newsday.
Analysis: The Islanders seem to make more head scratching moves than not. They recall Ryan Strome on Monday but due to travel problems tell him to report to Phoenix on Wednesday. They then decide not to play him against the Coyotes but delay his NHL debut until Saturday at home. Then why exactly would you have him fly across country in the first place if you never had any intention of playing him?

Isles' Strome To Make Debut Thursday

News: Ryan Strome is expected to make his NHL debut Thursday versus Phoenix, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Ryan Strome was supposed to play Tuesday night versus the Sharks but travel issues made that an impossibility. There is no word yet on what the line combinations will be but Strome could end up centering the third line and having to work his way up to a top six forward.

Isles To Finally Call Up Strome

News: Ryan Strome has been called up by the Islanders, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Ryan Strome is the Isles' top offensive prospect. The team's resisted the temptation to call him up so as not to mess with his development, and they've struggled to find a spot for him as well. The Isles don't want him to play wing, preferring he stay at his natural center position, but that may mean he has to play on the third line, as John Tavares and Frans Nielsen are the top two pivots. Still, he's worth a pickup if you have a dead spot on your roster. One caveat: Outside of Tavares, the Islanders are legendary for mishandling their youngsters, so it's anyone's guess how this will all play out.
