Flames Reassign Baertschi

News: Sven Baertschi was reassigned to AHL Adirondback on Tuesday, NHL.com's Aaron Vickers reports.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi's demotion paves the way for Mason Raymond (upper body) to rejoin the lineup after an extended absence. The young winger seemed to perform more effectively during his latest stint with the Flames, but with only three points over 14 games, it was hard for the suddenly-healthy squad to keep him in the fold.

Flames' Baertschi Returns With Two Helpers

News: Sven Baertschi set up both of Paul Byron's goals and went plus-1 despite skating just 10:12 in Thursday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Thin ice time for Sven Baertschi, who was making his return from an illness that'd kept him out of Monday's game, but he made the most of it, as these were his first points of the year. The 13th overall pick in 2011, Baertschi has a ton of offensive upside, but has been slow to realize it.

Flames' Baertschi Will Play On Thursday

News: Sven Baertschi (illness) will return to the Calgary lineup for their game on Thursday against the Coyotes, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has missed a good portion of the season already with a groin injury and now this recent illness. The 22-year-old winger has struggled in his first four seasons with the Flames and his first four games of this season haven't gone much better. He has failed to register a point and is sitting on a minus-4 rating.

Flames' Baertschi Won't Play Monday

News: Sven Baertschi will not play Monday against the Hurricanes due to an illness.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi is dealing with a virus that will keep him out of Monday's game, so Max Reinhart will step in at center to replace him in the lineup.

Flames' Baertschi Finishes Minus-3 In Win

News: Sven Baertschi finished with no points and a minus-3 rating in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Panthers.
Analysis: On an afternoon in which seemingly every Calgary skater found the scoresheet, Sven Baertschi did more harm than good in his 7:10 of ice time. In his four games since his Nov. 2 call-up, Baertschi has failed to tally a single point, a troubling development considering that the opportunities have generally been plentiful for a potent Flames attack. If he doesn't start producing quickly, Baertschi could find himself headed back to AHL Adirondack before long.

Flames Recall Baertschi

News: Sven Baertschi was recalled from AHL Adirondack on Sunday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has three assists and six penalty minutes in ten games with AHL Adirondack this season, and will now add some depth to the Flames' forwards. The 2011 first-round pick will replace Joe Colborne on the roster, who was placed on injured reserve Sunday.

Baertschi Sent Down To AHL

News: Sven Baertschi was reassigned to AHL Adirondack on Sunday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi, once the most prized prospect in the organization, has spent most of the last year in the AHL and appears to be doing the same in 2014-15. He also is in GM Brian Burke's doghouse often, which doesn't bode well for his future in Calgary.

Flames' Baertschi Dealing With Illness

News: Sven Baertschi was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's exhibition game due to an illness, Aaron Vickers of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi, who is competing for a spot on the Flames' opening night roster, should be considered day-to-day with the illness.

Flames Demote Baertschi To AHL

News: The Flames assigned Sven Baertschi to AHL Abbotsford on Thursday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has played the entire season in Calgary so far, but will spend some time in Abbotsford after registering two goals and nine assists in 26 games with the Flames.

Flames' Baertschi Notches Assist In Loss

News: Sven Baertschi assisted on the Flames' lone goal in a 2-1 loss to the Bruins on Tuesday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has been a little more consistent as of late, avoiding the healthy scratch and tallying two points in his last three games. While he's not yet the world-beater he's been expected to be, keep in mind he's still only 21 and has a lot of good years ahead of him.

Flames' Baertschi Scores Goal In Win

News: Sven Baertschi scored his second goal of the season as the Flames beat the Panthers, 4-3 on Friday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi found the net on a second period power play to put the Flames ahead, 2-1. The 21-year-old now has four points in his last five games after coming off a five-game scoreless streak and a slew of healthy scratches. He appears to be back on track finally.

Flames' Baertschi Tallies Assist

News: Sven Baertschi snapped a five-game scoreless streak with an assist in a 7-3 loss to the Stars on Thursday.
Analysis: That scoreless streak didn't include the multiple healthy scratches Sven Baertschi had, so hopefully Thursday will be a confidence-builder. Baertschi is still young and raw, and until he starts playing a more complete game, he's not going to get the necessary minutes to show his scoring potential on a night-to-night basis.

Flames' Baertschi Scratched Again Thursday

News: Sven Baertschi will be scratched for the second consecutive game Thursday vs. the Blues, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi expressed his displeasure with Flames coach Bob Hartley's decision, but the 21-year-old still needs to refine some areas of his game in order to log consistent minutes at the NHL level. Though his future remains incredibly bright, it's looking less likely that a breakout performance will occur this season.

Flames' Baertschi Scratched Again

News: Sven Baertschi was scratched Tuesday for the second time in five games.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has all the talent in the world, but at 21, is still learning all the facets of the NHL game. He may be a solid fantasy contributor in the future, but that time doesn't appear to be now.

Flames' Baertschi To Play Saturday

News: Coach Bob Hartley confirmed Sven Baertschi would be back in the lineup Saturday against the Capitals, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi was scratched Thursday on the heels of a string of unproductive performances, but he'll be more or less entrenched with a regular spot in the Flames' lineup moving forward. He has four points through nine games thus far.

Flames' Baertschi Healthy Scratched Thursday

News: Sven Baertschi will be a healthy scratch Thursday against the Stars, Calgary Herald's Scott Cruickshank reports.
Analysis: The youthful Sven Baertschi has been solid this season, with four points and a minus-1 rating through nine games, but coach Bob Hartley will keep him on the bench Thursday with his play slipping a little of late. It should just be a temporary absence for Baertschi, but owners in daily leagues will want to keep him out of their lineups for the night.

Flames' Baertschi Lights Lamp Wednesday

News: Sven Baertschi scored his first goal of the season Wednesday as the Flames downed the Canadiens, 3-2.
Analysis: Some feared Brian Burke's critical comments of Sven Baertschi might shatter the winger's fragile confidence, but Baertschi seems to have been toughened by a rough 2012-13 campaign. He went plus-2 with a goal Wednesday, and while two points in four games isn't overly impressive, he's improving his overall game.

Calgary's Baertschi Gets Into Box Score

News: Sven Baertschi scored his first point of the season Friday, an assist to help Calgary to a 4-3 victory over Columbus.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has been the victim of a lot of criticism in Calgary for not living up to potential, but keep in mind he just turned 21. He will be a solid fantasy contributor in time, but it just won't be as quickly as some may have thought.

Flames' Baertschi Goes Scoreless In Season Debut

News: Sven Baertschi (lower body) was on the ice for 11:24 in Thursday's season-opening shootout loss to the Capitals.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi failed to connect on either of his two shots on goal during the game but it was his failure to sneak one past goaltender Michal Neuvirth in the shootout that was most glaring. He'll likely have better days ahead of him after totaling 10 points in just 20 games last season, but his production may be limited unless he sees an uptick in playing time.

Flames' Baertschi (Lower Body) Sits Out Practice

News: Sven Baertschi (lower body) didn't skate during Saturday's practice, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: It was Sven Baertschi's second straight day off the ice after he developed the lower-body injury at some point earlier this week. His status is in question for Thursday's season opener against the Capitals.

Flames' Baertschi Day-to-Day With Lower-Body Injury

News: Sven Baertschi is dealing with a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Further details of the setback were not provided, but it did prevent Sven Baertschi from taking part in Friday's practice. It remains to be seen if Baertschi's injury will prevent him from taking the ice next Thursday in the Flames' season opener.

Flames' Baertschi Misses Practice Friday

News: Sven Baertschi was not on the ice for practice Friday, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: No injury has been reported at this time, but this could be an indication that the Flames are going to send the young forward to the AHL to begin the season. Nevertheless, it would be prudent to await further details before adjusting his place on your draft board.

Flames' Baertschi Misses Season Finale

News: Sven Baertschi missed the Flames' season finale Friday with a groin injury.
Analysis: The injury likely wasn't serious, but the Flames don't want to take any chances with one of their best young players. Sven Baertschi finished the season with a seven-game scoring streak and should start to become a fantasy force next season.

Flames' Baertschi Scores Lone Goal In Loss

News: Sven Baertschi netted the lone goal in a 4-1 loss to the Blues on Thursday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has really improved his game since the beginning of the season and especially since his AHL demotion. He has nine points over his current seven-game scoring streak and is really setting the table for a possible breakout season in 2013-14.

Flames' Baertschi Streaking

News: Sven Baertschi is on a roll to end the season, as he has eight points in his last six games.
Analysis: It's hard to tell whether his recent points streak is due to him getting more comfortable at the NHL level or because the pressure is off the playoff-less Flames, but Sven Baertschi is still performing quite well to finish off his rookie campaign. He's going to likely be a star in the NHL, and he is a sleeper heading into 2013-14.
