Flames Demote Baertschi To AHL

News: The Flames assigned Sven Baertschi to AHL Abbotsford on Thursday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has played the entire season in Calgary so far, but will spend some time in Abbotsford after registering two goals and nine assists in 26 games with the Flames.

Flames' Baertschi Notches Assist In Loss

News: Sven Baertschi assisted on the Flames' lone goal in a 2-1 loss to the Bruins on Tuesday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has been a little more consistent as of late, avoiding the healthy scratch and tallying two points in his last three games. While he's not yet the world-beater he's been expected to be, keep in mind he's still only 21 and has a lot of good years ahead of him.

Flames' Baertschi Scores Goal In Win

News: Sven Baertschi scored his second goal of the season as the Flames beat the Panthers, 4-3 on Friday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi found the net on a second period power play to put the Flames ahead, 2-1. The 21-year-old now has four points in his last five games after coming off a five-game scoreless streak and a slew of healthy scratches. He appears to be back on track finally.

Flames' Baertschi Tallies Assist

News: Sven Baertschi snapped a five-game scoreless streak with an assist in a 7-3 loss to the Stars on Thursday.
Analysis: That scoreless streak didn't include the multiple healthy scratches Sven Baertschi had, so hopefully Thursday will be a confidence-builder. Baertschi is still young and raw, and until he starts playing a more complete game, he's not going to get the necessary minutes to show his scoring potential on a night-to-night basis.

Flames' Baertschi Scratched Again Thursday

News: Sven Baertschi will be scratched for the second consecutive game Thursday vs. the Blues, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi expressed his displeasure with Flames coach Bob Hartley's decision, but the 21-year-old still needs to refine some areas of his game in order to log consistent minutes at the NHL level. Though his future remains incredibly bright, it's looking less likely that a breakout performance will occur this season.

Flames' Baertschi Scratched Again

News: Sven Baertschi was scratched Tuesday for the second time in five games.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has all the talent in the world, but at 21, is still learning all the facets of the NHL game. He may be a solid fantasy contributor in the future, but that time doesn't appear to be now.

Flames' Baertschi To Play Saturday

News: Coach Bob Hartley confirmed Sven Baertschi would be back in the lineup Saturday against the Capitals, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi was scratched Thursday on the heels of a string of unproductive performances, but he'll be more or less entrenched with a regular spot in the Flames' lineup moving forward. He has four points through nine games thus far.

Flames' Baertschi Healthy Scratched Thursday

News: Sven Baertschi will be a healthy scratch Thursday against the Stars, Calgary Herald's Scott Cruickshank reports.
Analysis: The youthful Sven Baertschi has been solid this season, with four points and a minus-1 rating through nine games, but coach Bob Hartley will keep him on the bench Thursday with his play slipping a little of late. It should just be a temporary absence for Baertschi, but owners in daily leagues will want to keep him out of their lineups for the night.

Flames' Baertschi Lights Lamp Wednesday

News: Sven Baertschi scored his first goal of the season Wednesday as the Flames downed the Canadiens, 3-2.
Analysis: Some feared Brian Burke's critical comments of Sven Baertschi might shatter the winger's fragile confidence, but Baertschi seems to have been toughened by a rough 2012-13 campaign. He went plus-2 with a goal Wednesday, and while two points in four games isn't overly impressive, he's improving his overall game.

Calgary's Baertschi Gets Into Box Score

News: Sven Baertschi scored his first point of the season Friday, an assist to help Calgary to a 4-3 victory over Columbus.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has been the victim of a lot of criticism in Calgary for not living up to potential, but keep in mind he just turned 21. He will be a solid fantasy contributor in time, but it just won't be as quickly as some may have thought.

Flames' Baertschi Goes Scoreless In Season Debut

News: Sven Baertschi (lower body) was on the ice for 11:24 in Thursday's season-opening shootout loss to the Capitals.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi failed to connect on either of his two shots on goal during the game but it was his failure to sneak one past goaltender Michal Neuvirth in the shootout that was most glaring. He'll likely have better days ahead of him after totaling 10 points in just 20 games last season, but his production may be limited unless he sees an uptick in playing time.

Analysis: It was Sven Baertschi's second straight day off the ice after he developed the lower-body injury at some point earlier this week. His status is in question for Thursday's season opener against the Capitals.

Flames' Baertschi Day-to-Day With Lower-Body Injury

News: Sven Baertschi is dealing with a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Further details of the setback were not provided, but it did prevent Sven Baertschi from taking part in Friday's practice. It remains to be seen if Baertschi's injury will prevent him from taking the ice next Thursday in the Flames' season opener.

Flames' Baertschi Misses Practice Friday

News: Sven Baertschi was not on the ice for practice Friday, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: No injury has been reported at this time, but this could be an indication that the Flames are going to send the young forward to the AHL to begin the season. Nevertheless, it would be prudent to await further details before adjusting his place on your draft board.

Flames' Baertschi Misses Season Finale

News: Sven Baertschi missed the Flames' season finale Friday with a groin injury.
Analysis: The injury likely wasn't serious, but the Flames don't want to take any chances with one of their best young players. Sven Baertschi finished the season with a seven-game scoring streak and should start to become a fantasy force next season.

Flames' Baertschi Scores Lone Goal In Loss

News: Sven Baertschi netted the lone goal in a 4-1 loss to the Blues on Thursday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi has really improved his game since the beginning of the season and especially since his AHL demotion. He has nine points over his current seven-game scoring streak and is really setting the table for a possible breakout season in 2013-14.

Flames' Baertschi Streaking

News: Sven Baertschi is on a roll to end the season, as he has eight points in his last six games.
Analysis: It's hard to tell whether his recent points streak is due to him getting more comfortable at the NHL level or because the pressure is off the playoff-less Flames, but Sven Baertschi is still performing quite well to finish off his rookie campaign. He's going to likely be a star in the NHL, and he is a sleeper heading into 2013-14.

Flames' Baertschi Gets Assist Wednesday

News: Sven Baertschi dished an assist in the Flames' 3-2 victory over the Red Wings on Wednesday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi is finishing the season on a high note, as he has four points in his last three games. If you need a late, late-season pickup, Baertschi is likely available and is on a roll.

Flames' Baertschi Heating Up

News: After scoring only one point in his first 13 games, Sven Baertschi now has two goals and an assist in his last two games.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi came into this season with sky-high expectations, but people forget how young and green he still is. He still has a great chance to develop into an upper-echelon player, but that will likely not be for another year or two.

Calgary's Baertschi Logs First Goal Of Season

News: Sven Baertschi collected a goal and an assist Saturday in the Flames' 4-1 win over rival Edmonton. He finished the night plus-2.
Analysis: The Flames are at liberty to try out young skaters now that any meaningful hopes of reaching the playoffs are gone. This should give Sven Baertschi a bit more playing time, though he appears to be a year or two away from becoming a scorer at the NHL level.

Flames' Baertschi Sent To AHL

News: Sven Baertschi was assigned to AHL Abbotsford on Saturday.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi's demotion opens up a roster spot for Mikael Backlund, who is back in the lineup after missing a month with a knee injury. Baertschi had one point in 10 games this season. He's only 20 years old and may need some more time in the minors.

Flames' Baertschi Will Not Play Friday

News: Sven Baertschi will not play Friday against the Ducks.
Analysis: Flames coach Bob Hartley wants "the biggest possible team in the lineup" Friday to combat Anaheim's size, so the 5-10 Sven Baertschi will watch as a healthy scratch.

Flames' Baertschi Gets On The Board

News: Sven Baertschi registered his first point of the season Thursday, an assist in a 5-4 loss at Colorado.
Analysis: The Flames have high hopes for the youngster, but perhaps put too much pressure on him after he lit it up in five games in the NHL last season. He definitely has star potential but he is still very young and may need a season or two to realize that potential.

Flames Get Baertschi Back

News: Sven Baertschi (hip flexor) saw 13:20 worth of ice time in Saturday's win over the Wild.
Analysis: Sven Baertschi, who recorded two shots in the game, has yet to score a point in five contests for the Flames to date this season, but the 2011 first-rounder does have plenty of long-term upside.
