WIld's Fontaine Pots Game-Winner Vs. Avs

News: Justin Fontaine scored the game-winning goal Saturday against Colorado.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine has been productive of late, compiling three goals and nine points in his last eight games. He's now got eight goals, 22 points and a plus-11 rating in 52 games on the season. He can be trusted in some very deep leagues, but considering he averages just 11:32 of ice time, the bottom-six forward doesn't hold much fantasy value.

Two Goals For Wild's Fontaine

News: Justin Fontaine bagged a pair of goals in a 4-0 shutout of the Oilers on Friday. His first tally at 10:18 of the first period held up as the game winner.
Analysis: With a recent four-game, five-point outburst, Justin Fontaine now has seven goals and 11 assists in 48 contests this season. The 27-year-old sophomore isn't going to turn any heads with his offensive abilities, but he's a nice piece of depth scoring for the Wild who's set to surpass his rookie point total of 21 from 2013-14.

Wild's Fontaine Adds Two Assists To Ledger

News: Justin Fontaine racked up two assists in Saturday's 6-3 victory over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine saw most of his ice time Saturday on the Wild's second line with Thomas Vanek and Mikael Granlund, which paid immediate dividends when he set up both of Vanek's first-period goals. The winger has primarily occupied a bottom-six role for the Wild this season, but with three forwards (Matt Cooke, Ryan Carter, and Jason Zucker) facing lengthy absences, opportunity knocks for Fontaine. He'll need to prove himself as a capable setup man in the games to come if he hopes to maintain his spot alongside Vanek and Granlund.

Wild Activate Fontaine

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) has been activated from IR by the Wild.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine, who last played on Jan. 29, checks back into the team's forward mix with 13 points and six PIM in 42 games, numbers that restrict his fantasy utility to deeper formats.

Wild's Fontaine Close To Returning

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) missed his third consecutive game Saturday, but it close to returning, the Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine returned to practice Friday, so he could play Monday against Vancouver.

Wild's Fontaine (Groin) Returns To Practice

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) is practicing Friday, Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: As expected, Justin Fontaine rejoined his teammates at practice, after skating on his own the past two days. He may have a shot to return for Saturday's game against Colorado or Monday's game against Vancouver.

Wild's Fontaine Plans To Practice Friday

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) plans to practice Friday, Rachel Blount of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine has skated on his own the last two days without incident and should receive clearance to rejoin his mates for an on-ice session. At this point, it doesn't sound like he'll be a candidate to play Saturday against the Avalanche, but he could be back to full health by next week.

Wild's Fontaine Placed On IR

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press' Chad Graff reports.
Analysis: Minnesota doesn't have any games from Wednesday through Friday, so the transaction only rules Justin Fontaine out for Tuesday's contest with the Blackhawks. He suffered the injury during Thursday's game against the Flames, and he hasn't practiced since that time. The Wild recalled Jordan Schroeder to fill Fontaine's roster spot.

Wild Rule Fontaine Out Sunday With Groin Injury

News: Justin Fontaine's lower-body injury is a groin ailment, which will prevent him from playing in Sunday's game against the Canucks, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Groin injuries tend to linger and can be quite troubling for skaters, so it wouldn't be a surprise if Justin Fontaine's absence lasted multiple games. For now, the Wild will consider Fontaine day-to-day and see if he can make enough improvement to resume skating.

Wild's Fontaine Appears Doubtful For Sunday

News: Justin Fontaine (lower body) didn't participate in Saturday's practice, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Due to Sunday's early game time against the Canucks, the Wild likely won't hold a morning skate in which the training staff could gauge Justin Fontaine's health. As a result, it seems likely that he'll miss the contest, with Erik Haula expected to reenter the lineup in his stead.

Wild's Fontaine Suffers Lower-Body Injury

News: Justin Fontaine sufferered a lower-body injury in Thursday's game against the Flames, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine's injury apparently went undetected at first, but coach Mike Yeo indicated that he suffered one at some point during the third period. The Wild don't play again until Sunday, giving him three days to rest, but his status should be checked prior to the game.

Wild's Fontaine Scores In Loss

News: Justin Fontaine scored on his only shot attempt in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine saw only 12:52 of action and no power-play minutes in the loss. The lack of ice time has been a recurring theme of late for Fontaine, who has been mostly a black hole offensively since a five-point October. He's tallied just three points over his last 21 contests.

Wild's Fontaine Unlikely To Play Tuesday

News: Justin Fontaine will likely be a healthy scratch Tuesday against Philadelphia, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine has just one point in his last 14 games. He's seen his ice time decline during his slump and now he may be the odd man out.

Wild's Fontaine Scores Second Goal

News: Justin Fontaine scored his second goal of the season in Friday's loss to Anaheim.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine is well off his pace from last season when he scored 13 goals but is on pace for similar points as he has more assists. He ended a six-game pointless streak, so hopefully Friday's goal gets him going.

Fontaine Nets Two Points For Wild

News: Justin Fontaine chipped in a pair of assists, a plus-2 rating and two penalty minutes during Thursday's 6-3 victory over Buffalo.
Analysis: The nice night ended a five-game point drought for Justin Fontaine, who's now accumulated seven points in total over 13 games. That's modest production, but it does represent an uptick in his scoring rate over last year's goal-heavy 21 points in 66 games.

Three-Game Point Streak For Wild's Fontaine

News: Justin Fontaine gathered an assist and finished with a plus-2 rating Thursday against the Sharks.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine started the contest on the Wild's fourth line, but after impressing coach Mike Yeo in the early stages of the game, he was ultimately elevated to the third line with Kyle Brodziak and Thomas Vanek, an arrangement that proved fruitful for the trio. Given that Fontaine has now generated a goal and three assists over the last three games, Yeo could decide to keep him on the third line and see if he can continue to deliver quality production with an uptick in ice time.

First Goal For Wild's Fontaine

News: Justin Fontaine scored his first goal of the year in Tuesday's win over Minnesota.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine's game-tying tally in the third period was his third point in two games. After he potted 13 goals as a rookie last year, Fontaine is expected to elevate his game this season, though he'll have a hard time exceeding last year's totals if his ice time remains so thin.

Wild's Fontaine Dishes Out Two In Loss

News: Justin Fontaine compiled two assists in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine helped out on the Wild's first two goals of the game, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Rangers, who rallied for five tallies in the third period to take the game. The winger has a respectable three points in five games, but his continued presence on the team's checking line will more than likely prevent him from maintaining that scoring rate.

Wild Activate Fontaine From IR

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) has been activated from injured reserve and will play in Friday's game against the Ducks, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Surprisingly, Justin Fontaine is being penciled in to make his season debut on the second line with Thomas Vanek and Mikko Koivu, rather than the checking-line role he filled during training camp. The Wild could choose to move Fontaine down the depth chart if he fails to take off in his first few games back, but for the time being, an opportunity exists for him to carve out some fantasy value.

Wild's Fontaine Likely To Return Friday

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) appears to be on track to play Friday against the Ducks, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Wild waived Stu Bickel on Monday, which will open up a spot on the active roster for Justin Fontaine. Last season, Fontaine finished fourth on the team in goals, potting 13 during the regular season.

Wild's Fontaine Won't Play Thursday

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) has been ruled out for Thursday's season opener against the Avalanche, Chad Graff of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine resumed practicing earlier this week and is slated to do so again Thursday, but he's not yet 100 percent healthy. Ryan Carter, who signed with the Wild on Monday, is expected to step in on the fourth line in Fontaine's stead.

Wild's Fontaine Could Play Thursday

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) may be healthy enough to suit up for the season opener against the Avalanche on Thursday, Chad Graff of the Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine was supposed to be sidelined for a few more weeks, but apparently his condition has improved a lot over the last few days. He's currently on IR, but would be eligible to return for opening night if healthy.

Wild's Fontaine (Groin) Practices Monday

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) is on injured reserve but practiced with the team Monday, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: While Justin Fontaine is expected to miss a few weeks due to the injury, the fact that he is practicing with the team Monday may hint towards an earlier return. He posted a surprising 21 points on the fourth line last season, and should serve in a similar role again this year.

Wild's Fontaine Out For Start Of Season

News: Justin Fontaine (groin) is expected to miss "a few weeks," Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: At the very least, Justin Fontaine will be out for Opening Night, and the Wild may have to consider placing him on injured reserve if his absence ends up spanning multiple games. Fontaine provided a surprising amount of offense (21 points in 66 games) despite being relegated to a fourth-line role last season. His absence could gave the way for three of Jason Zucker, Stephane Veilleux, Cody Almond and Brett Sutter to crack the Wild's 23-man roster.

Wild's Fontaine (Groin) Held Out Of Practice

News: Justin Fontaine was held out of Wednesday's practice due to an expected groin concern, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Justin Fontaine battled the groin strain early in camp before returning to preseason action, but it appears he's still not quite over the ailment just yet. The Wild seem to think he'll be healthy for the start of the regular season, so there's probably nothing to worry about quite yet.
