Jackets' Gibbons Has Two-Point Night

News: Brian Gibbons picked up two assists in his debut for the Blue Jackets on Saturday.
Analysis: After starting the season with five points in seven games for AHL Springfield, Brian Gibbons looks determined to take full advantage of his promotion and stick around for the long haul. Given the Jackets' absurd injury situation, he'll have at least a couple of weeks to prove he belongs on the NHL roster.

Blue Jackets Recall Gibbons

News: The Blue Jackets recalled Brian Gibbons from AHL Springfield on Thursday, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Injuries have hit the Blue Jackets hard of late, so Brian Gibbons was brought in to provide some depth up front. He and Sean Collins will likely rotate at one of the wing spots on the Blue Jackets' fourth line.

Blue Jackets' Gibbons Clears Waivers

News: Brian Gibbons was assigned to AHL Springfield after clearing waivers Wednesday.
Analysis: The 26-year-old Brian Gibbons was placed on injured reserve to open the season after sustaining a lower-body injury in training camp. The injury cost him any chance he had at winning a 23-man roster spot with Columbus, so he'll probably have to excel in the minors before warranting another look from the parent club.

Blue Jackets Place Gibbons On Waivers

News: The Blue Jackets activated Brian Gibbons (undisclosed) from injured reserve Tuesday and placed him on waivers, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Brian Gibbons saw action in 41 games with the Penguins last season, so he could garner some interest on the waiver wire. If he clears, he will be assigned to AHL Springfield.

Jackets Place Gibbons On IR

News: The Blue Jackets placed Brian Gibbons (undisclosed) on IR on Monday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Brian Gibbons sat out last Friday's practice with the injury, so the move to IR likely means he'll be out for Thursday's season opener against the Sabres. The center collected five goals and 12 assists last season with the Penguins.

Blue Jackets' Gibbons Resting Minor Injury

News: Brian Gibbons was held out of Friday's practice with a minor injury.
Analysis: Coach Todd Richards said the forward is "a little banged up" and is considered day-to-day, but there's a chance he could practice Saturday. The injury to Boone Jenner and the ongoing contract dispute with Ryan Johansen seems to have solidified Brian Gibbons' spot on the 23-man roster.

Columbus Inks Gibbons To Two-Way Deal

News: Brian Gibbons signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Blue Jackets on Friday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Brian Gibbons failed to take advantage of a second-half opportunity on the Sidney Crosby-Chris Kunitz line with the Penguins, squandering what might have been his best chance at attaining fantasy relevance for the remainder of his career. With Columbus, he'll have the opportunity to compete for an opening night roster spot, but probably won't be considered for a top-six role at any point in 2014-15. He will bring some speed and physicality to the fourth line, however.

Pens Reassign Gibbons

News: Brian Gibbons was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Thursday.
Analysis: With the Penguins eliminated from the playoffs, Brian Gibbons will pick up a little extra playing time in the minors before calling it a season. He was able to produce 17 points in 41 regular-season contests, but failed to mesh with Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz on the Pens' top line when given the opportunity to replace the injured Pascal Dupuis.
