Longtime NHLer Aucoin Announces Retirement

News: Adrian Aucoin officially announced his retirement Tuesday, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin had already accepted a position in the Blackhawks' front office before the season, an indication he had no intention of playing any longer. The 40-year-old defenseman finishes his career with 399 points and one All-Star appearance over 18 seasons with the Canucks, Lightning, Islanders, Blackhawks, Flames, Coyotes and Blue Jackets.

Blue Jackets Get Aucoin Back

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) saw 13:09 worth of ice time in his return to action Sunday against the Sharks.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin's return bolsters the Blue Jackets' blue line for the team's playoff push, but with just four points and 14 PIMs in 34 games to date, his fantasy impact has been minimal this season.

Blue Jackets' Aucoin (Lower Body) Game-Time Decision Sunday

News: Adrian Aucoin skated Saturday and will be a game-time decision against the Sharks on Sunday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin missed games Wednesday and Thursday, but it sounds like he has a pretty good shot to get back out there for Sunday's crucial game against San Jose. The Blue Jackets are battling for the No. 8 seed in the West, while the Sharks are jockeying for position in the middle of the playoff picture.

Blue Jackets’ Aucoin Out Thursday

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) will not play in Thursday's game against the Kings, Jeff Rimer of FOX Sports Ohio reports.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin, who has four assists this season, will miss his second straight game. He was able to skate Thursday, so there is a possibility he could return for Sunday's game against the Sharks.

Jackets' Aucoin Misses Wednesday's Game

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) was not in the lineup against the Ducks on Wednesday.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin was a game time decision, so there's a chance he'll be able to play Thursday against the Kings. If he can't play, expect Tim Erixon to take his place along the blue line again.

Jackets' Aucoin A Game-Time Decision Wednesday

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) will be a game-time decision when the Blue Jackets take on the Ducks on Wednesday, Jeff Rimer of FoxSports Ohio reports.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin has only recorded four assists in 33 games this season for the Jackets, so putting him in your fantasy lineup for Wednesday isn't worth the risk. Tim Erixon will take his place if Aucoin is unable to go.

Blue Jackets' Aucoin Banged Up

News: Adrian Aucoin suffered a lower-body injury in the second period of Monday's win over the Avs, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

Blue Jackets' Aucoin Back In Business

News: Adrian Aucoin returned to action Sunday against the Ducks after sitting out Friday's game against the Flames due to soreness.

Blue Jackets' Aucoin Out Friday

News: Adrian Aucoin (general soreness) will sit out Friday against the Flames, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Coach Todd Richards said Adrian Aucoin is just dealing with some "bumps and bruises," so he'll get the night off to preserve his health. Consider Aucoin questionable for the Blue Jackets' next game, scheduled for Sunday against the Ducks.

Blue Jackets' Aucoin Set To Return Friday

News: Adrian Aucoin (general soreness) will return to the lineup Friday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin has been sidelined the last two games, but it appears the time off has soothed his body pain. Through 22 games this season, Aucoin has registered a modest two points and a minus-10 rating.

Jackets' Aucoin Scratched Saturday

News: Adrian Aucoin got the night off Saturday, and may miss Tuesday's game as well, the Columbus Dispatch reports. "It's just more managing him," coach Todd Richards said. "He was really banged up and he'd been playing through a lot of different issues."
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin was a trooper while the Blue Jackets' dealt with more serious injuries on the blue line, but now that everyone else is healthy he finally gets a break. With just two assists and a minus-10 rating in 22 games though, fantasy owners likely won't even notice his absence.

Aucoin Returns In Columbus Loss

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) played 18:50 in his season debut on Friday, as the Blue Jackets fell to Los Angeles.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin is one of a bevy of defenders Columbus employs, but the veteran's days of being a productive offensive player are gone.

Jackets' Aucoin (Lower Body) Activated From IR

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) was activated from injured reserve and will play Friday against the Kings.
Analysis: As expected, Adrian Aucoin will be in action Friday for the first time since Jan. 29. The 39-year-old defenseman didn't record a point and posted a minus-five rating in his first seven games of the season.

Jackets' Aucoin To Play Friday

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) is expected to play Friday, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin has not played since Jan. 29 and will provide solid assistance to the defense. He has not totaled any points in seven games this season, but his contributions are not always present on the scoring sheet.

Jackets' Aucoin Close To A Return

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) will travel with the Blue Jackets as they begin a long road trip on Friday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He says he'll be ready to play, but the Jackets' haven't yet demoted their remaining blue line call-ups so the club could be waiting to see how he looks in Thursday's practice before making a final decision on his availability.

Jackets' Aucoin Skates Thursday

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) took part in Thursday's morning skate, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: It's the first time he's been back on the ice since getting hurt Jan. 29, and it looks like he should be back in the lineup fairly soon.

Jackets' Aucoin Placed On IR

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) has been placed on IR retroactive to Jan. 29, the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Analysis: This move made room to recall defenseman Cody Goloubef from AHL Springfield. From a fantasy perspective Adrian Aucoin has been irrelevant for the Blue Jackets in his first seven games, with zero points and a minus-5 rating. Aucoin and fellow defenseman Nikita Nikitin's injuries will give time to David Savard, Tim Erixon, and Cody Goloubef on defense.

Blue Jackets' Aucoin (Lower Body) Sitting Out Thursday

News: Adrian Aucoin (lower body) will not play Thursday against the Blues, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Both Adrian Aucoin and Nikita Nikitin (head) will not dress Thursday, giving way to David Savard and AHL callup Tim Erixon on the blue line. Aucoin has accumulated some decidedly unserviceable numbers this season through seven games (zero points, minus-5 rating, and seven hits), so his presence shouldn't be terribly missed by the Blue Jackets.

Jackets' Aucoin Suffers Lower Body Injury

News: Adrian Aucoin didn't play in the third period Tuesday after suffering a lower body injury, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He had no points, a minus-5 rating and two PIMs through seven games, so most fantasy owners won't even notice he's out.

Aucoin Signs For One Year In Columbus

News: Adrian Aucoin has signed a one-year deal with the Blue Jackets, reports Aaron Ward of TSN. It's worth $2 million.
Analysis: The old man -- he turns 39 in two days -- will bring a stabilizing role to the Jackets who sorely need leadership, particularly if Rick Nash hits the road. He won't deliver much offense but he could help improve the GAA and save percentage of Sergei Bobrovsky.

Coyotes' Aucoin Played Through Groin Injury

News: Adrian Aucoin revealed that he had been playing during the postseason with a groin injury, Craig Morgan of FOX Arizona reports.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin had his quietest year offensively in the last three seasons, with nine points in 64 games (he had 22 points in 75 games in 2010 and 28 in 82 games in 2009). As a free agent this offseason, it would be a surprise to see Aucoin back in the desert, especially given the pool of young blue line talent the Coyotes have stockpiled.

Coyotes' Aucoin Iffy For Tuesday

News: Adrian Aucoin (undisclosed injury) is a game-time decision for Tuesday's game against the Kings, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Adrian Aucoin took part in the team's optional morning skate, but if he can't go in Tuesday's elimination game, then the Coyotes would likely turn to Michael Stone.

Coyotes' Aucoin Returns Sunday, Leaves In Third

News: Adrian Aucoin (undisclosed) returned to the ice Sunday before leaving the game in the third period.

Aucoin's Status Uncertain for Game 3 Against LA

News: Adrian Aucoin (undisclosed) did not play in the Coyotes game 2 loss to LA and his status for game 3 has yet to be determined.
Analysis: To replace Adrian Aucoin, rookie Michael Stone made his playoff debut. If the Coyotes have any chance of getting back in this series they'll need Aucoin and his strong defensive presence to slow down the high-powered Kings offense.
