Pens' Johnson Replaces Fleury In Third Period

News: Brent Johnson replaced Marc-Andre Fleury in the third period of Sunday's game against the Flyers, Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com reports.
Analysis: Fleury gave up 11 goals in the first two games of the series, and six more Sunday. The Penguins were down 6-4 when Fleury was pulled, and it's uncertain who will get the nod in Game 4.

Pens' Johnson Wins In Relief Appearance

News: Brent Johnson made five saves in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury on Saturday, picking up the win as the Penguins beat the Flyers, 4-2.
Analysis: Brent Johnson came in just over halfway through the game to give Fleury a rest, and only faced six shots. He won't see any action in the playoffs, except in the event of an untimely injury to Fleury.

Johnson Steady In Pens' Win

News: Brent Johnson stopped 26 of the 29 shots he faced in Tuesday's win over Boston, his second win in as many starts.
Analysis: Brent Johnson will assume the backup duties for Pittsburgh come playoff time. Look for Marc-Andre Fleury to play Thursday's vital tilt against Philadelphia in the battle for playoff positioning. Johnson is giving the Pens adequate support, but his goals-against average and save percentage could be a bit better.

Pens' Johnson To Start Tuesday

News: Brent Johnson will start in Boston on Tuesday, according to the Penguins' Twitter feed.
Analysis: Brent Johnson beat Buffalo in his only game since coming off IR, allowing three goals on 28 shots March 30. The biggest advantage Johnson's fantasy owners might find in the matchup comes from the knowledge that Boston has already locked up the second seed in the East and could rest its top players.

Pens' Johnson To Start Friday

News: Brent Johnson (knee) will make his first start since Feb. 19 on Friday in Buffalo, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Josh Yohe reports.
Analysis: Brent Johnson hasn't played since getting yanked the last time Pittsburgh traveled to Buffalo, when he surrendered three goals on 12 shots to the Sabres.

Johnson Not Feeling Well For Pens

News: Brent Johnson missed practice Friday due to illness, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
Analysis: Brent Johnson did practice Thursday, but this must be bugging him all week as the team brought up Brad Thiessen to back up Marc-Andre Fleury for a game. Johnson may be well enough to handle those duties Saturday against Tampa Bay, though his .882 save percentage and 3.17 GAA remain a big concern for someone who was looking at some use down the stretch with the Pens wanting to try and keep Fleury fresh for the playoffs.

Pens' Johnson Out Tuesday

News: Brent Johnson will not be available for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: The Pens have recalled Brad Thiessen in the event Marc-Andre Fleury gets injured while starting against New York.

Penguins' Johnson Yanked Sunday

News: Brent Johnson gave up three goals on 12 shots in 22:52 worth of ice time before being yanked in Sunday's loss to the Sabres.
Analysis: Brent Johnson gave way to Marc-Andre Fleury, who also was able to stop just 9-of-12 shots in the Panguins' loss to Buffalo.

Penguins Go With Johnson Sunday

News: Brent Johnson will start for the Penguins against the Sabres on Sunday, according to the team's official site.
Analysis: Brent Johnson, who will be making his 12th start of the season, takes aim at a Buffalo squad that has dropped four straight games, surrendering 17 goals in the process.

Penguins' Johnson Picks Up Win In Rare Start

News: Brent Johnson stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced Sunday in a win over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Brent Johnson has only appeared in 12 games, and only has three starts on the season. Unless Marc-Andre Fleury gets hurt, Johnson likely won't see much action.

Pens' Johnson Expected To See More Time

News: Coach Dan Bylsma said Brent Johnson could start "seven to 11" games during the remainder of the regular season, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: While that may not sound like many games, Brent Johnson has started only four times since November. With a 2-6-2 record, 3.10 GAA and .885 save percentage, the 13th-year veteran has played poorly in 2011-12. That said, he's looked good in two February outings and might be a good pickup for owners scrambling to find a netminder on a nightly basis.

Penguins Go With Backup Keeper Wednesday

News: Brent Johnson will start for the Penguins against the Leafs on Wednesday, according to the Pens' official site.
Analysis: Brent Johnson has allowed eight goals in just 61 minutes in his last two outings, so it certainly isn't going to take much for him to better the expectations heading into this start.

Pens' Johnson To See More Time

News: Although Brent Johnson will not start Tuesday, he is expected to see more action in February, the Penguins' Web site reports.
Analysis: Brent Johnson has been terrible in 2011-12, but he's made only five starts since October. With the Penguins playing some of their best hockey lately, the backup might not be a bad start depending on matchups.

Johnson Sits For Pens Again

News: Brent Johnson did not get the start in Friday's come-from-behind win over Montreal, as Marc-Andre Fleury played the entire game.
Analysis: Brent Johnson hasn't played since January 10, and has only played three times since November 19, not exactly heavy-duty backup work. The Pens don't have back-to-back games until January 31/February 1, so the Pens can just keep using the superior Fleury if they so choose. Then again, Johnson is overdue for some type of game action, so we'll see if the Pens give him one of the team's two starts ahead of the All-Star break.

Penguins Start Johnson Friday

News: Brent Johnson will start in net for the Penguins Friday against the Canadiens, according to Pittsbirgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: Brent Johnson has never defeated the Habs in seven previous meetings, and his 3.47 GAA this season doesn't exactly point to him being a good bet to end that run Friday night.

Pens' Johnson Pulled In Rare Start

News: Brent Johnson lasted just more than a period in Tuesday's start against Ottawa. He spotted the Sens three goals on eight shots before being pulled in the eventual 5-1 loss.
Analysis: Brent Johnson hadn't seen a start in three weeks -- and was pulled after two periods in that game. At this rate, it'll be about that long until he sees another start. Johnson was one of the league's better backups last year, when he posted career-best GAA and save percentage stats, but he's had a dramatic reversal of fortune this season and doesn't merit starting in the vast majority of fantasy formats.

Pens' Johnson Expected To Start Tuesday

News: Brent Johnson is expected to start Tuesday night against the Senators, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: Brent Johnson hasn't started since Dec. 16, when he surrendered five goals on 19 shots in Ottawa. The Pittsburgh backup holds a 2-4-2 record, 3.24 GAA and .885 save percentage, though Tuesday represents only his second home start. Having lost four straight games in regulation, the Pens need a big game from Johnson.

Johnson To Start Friday For Pens

News: Brent Johnson will start in Ottawa on Friday, the Penguins' Web site reports.
Analysis: Brent Johnson holds a mediocre record (2-3-2) and middling peripherals, including a 2.83 GAA and .899 save percentage, but six of his seven starts have come on the road. Make that seven of eight after Friday. Johnson has posted a career record of 8-1-1 against the Sens but hasn't played against them in 2011-12.

Rare Start Saturday For Pens' Johnson

News: Brent Johnson will start Saturday at Carolina, reports Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Analysis: This is likely nothing more than a spot start for Brent Johnson in order to give Marc-Andre Fleury some rest. Johnson has just one win in six appearances this season (1-3-2), and sports some not-so-stellar peripheral stats as well (2.97 GAA, .892 save percentage). The fact that he plays for a powerhouse team like the Penguins is the only real fantasy value he has. Use him sparingly.

Pens' Johnson Loses Again

News: Brent Johnson made 28 saves in a 3-2 loss to the Panthers on Saturday night.
Analysis: Two of the kitties' goals came on the power play. Brent Johnson has started just six games this season and has but a single win to show for his efforts. His only value lies as a handcuff for Marc-Andre Fleury and even then, he's clearly not an auto-roll when he gets the nod.

Pens' Johnson Expected To Start Saturday

News: Brent Johnson is expected to start against the Panthers on Saturday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: Brent Johnson is just 1-2-2 with a 2.95 GAA and .889 save percentage. He's had more wins against Florida, however, than any other team. The Pittsburgh backup holds a 10-3-1 mark with a 2.28 GAA and .925 save percentage.

Johnson Set To Start Saturday For Pens

News: Brent Johnson will start for the Pens on Saturday in Carolina, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Brent Johnson has played sparingly thus far in 2011-12 but shut out the 'Canes in Raleigh in his only start there last year.

Pens' Johnson Returns To Practice Thursday

News: Brent Johnson (illness) returned to practice Thursday and will serve as Marc-Andre Fleury's backup against the Sharks, the Penguins' Web site reports.
Analysis: Brent Johnson sat out Wednesday but has recovered to the point where he could play if called upon. Penguins fans are hoping that won't be the case Thursday.

Pens' Johnson Sick But Set To Backup

News: Brent Johnson missed practice Wednesday due to illness but is expected to serve as Marc-Andre Fleury's backup Thursday, the Penguins' Web site reports.
Analysis: Pittsburgh plays just two games in California on Thursday and Saturday before returning home. As a result, Brent Johnson will likely serve as the backup in both games, unless he is extremely sick.

Pens' Johnson Takes Saturday Loss

News: Brent Johnson gave up four goals on 29 shots Saturday in Toronto.
Analysis: The Penguins backup looked a bit rusty after 11 days off and it didn't help that the team was playing without two-way center Jordan Staal for the first time this year.
