Langkow's Two Points Can't Carry Phoenix

News: Daymond Langkow collected a goal and an assist, both in the first frame, as Phoenix dropped a shooutout decision to San Jose on Saturday.
Analysis: These are the symptoms of late-career decline: His shooting percentage has fallen to a decade-long low of 10.0%; his point totals have dropped in every full season since 2006-07; his power-play goals, once a steady stream, have completely dried up. His return from a year-long absence due to a broken vertebra is a great story, but his fantasy value has fallen off the table.

Coyotes' Langkow A Game-Time Decision Tuesday

News: Daymond Langkow (face) did not practice Monday and is questionable for Tuesday's game against Ottawa, the Coyotes' official site reports.
Analysis: Unfortunately, he's a game-time decision against the Senators and should probably be reserved, given the uncertainty and the fact that the puck will drop a bit later in the evening Tuesday with Phoenix playing host to Ottawa in this one.

Coyotes' Langkow To Return Saturday

News: After taking a puck to the face and missing most of Thursday's game, Daymond Langkow is expected back in the lineup for the Saturday's game against the Lightning, according to TSN.ca.
Analysis: It has been a disappointing year for Daymond Langkow so far as he has recorded just 19 points through 40 games this season. Still, it is tough to put him on the bench given the amount of power play time he sees.

News: Daymond Langkow left Thursday's game against the Red Wings after taking a puck to the face, the Associated Press reports.

Coyotes' Langkow Remains On Leave

News: Daymond Langkow (personal) remains on a leave-of-absence from the Coyotes and will not join the team for the remainder of their current road trip, the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: That means Daymond Langkow will miss at least the next three games, with a possibility of a return next Wednesday against Anaheim.

Coyotes' Langkow Leaves Team

News: Daymond Langkow left the team Thursday because of a death in his family, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: In case you were wondering why Daymond Langkow didn't appear in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss. The Coyotes are off Friday and back at it Saturday, so we'll assume there's a decent chance the veteran is back in the lineup for that one. If not, the team's next game, November 15, would seem extremely likely.

Langkow Buries Game-Winner For 'Yotes

News: Daymond Langkow netted the game-winning goal with 43.7 seconds left in overtime as the Coyotes downed the Kings, 3-2 on Saturday.
Analysis: Daymond Langkow bounced his shot off Kings blueliner Jack Johnson and it squeaked past goalie Jonathan Quick for the sudden death score. Langkow now has seven points in 10 games for the Coyotes this season.

Puck To Face For Coyotes' Langkow

News: Daymond Langkow took a puck to the face early in the first period of Saturday's game against Winnipeg. He was on his knees for several minutes before leaving the ice.
Analysis: He was able to return later in the opening frame but this is worth monitoring. Concussion symptoms can come on in the days following such an impact and the guy has really only just returned from a major neck injury.

Coyotes Acquire Langkow

News: Daymond Langkow has been traded to Phoenix for Lee Stempniak pending a physical, the Flames' official Twitter feed reports.
Analysis: He'll give the Coyotes a much needed boost in the middle, although health remains a major concern here as Daymond Langkow played in just four games last season after getting hit in the back of the neck with a puck in March of 2010.

Langkow On Flames' First Line

News: Langkow could get first line duty Sunday against the Avs after practicing there Saturday, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Playing on the first line with Jarome Iginla is attractive enough, but then getting a matchup against the Avs makes it even more enticing to roll with Langkow on Sunday night.

Calgary's Langkow Could Return Friday

News: Langkow (neck) is expected to play against St. Louis on Friday, Flames.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Langkow has been productive in the past, but it's tough to see him making a big impact in his first game all year. Keep an eye on him for now.

Flames' Langkow Cleared For Full-Contact

News: Langkow (neck) has been cleared for full-contact practice with the Flames, The Sports Network reports.
Analysis: The veteran Langkow is still attempting to work his way back to game ice after being struck in the back of the neck by a puck a little over a year ago. It's encouraging that he is making progress, but GM Jay Feaster said, "... there remains issues relative to getting him ready to return to the lineup such as conditioning, rebuilding muscle mass, readiness for game speed and game timing, etc."

Return Date Still Uncertain for Flames' Langkow

News: Langkow (neck) remains out of game action possibly due to salary cap constraints, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Langkow has been practicing since March 16, but remains on the DL. His activation, a $4.5 million hit to the salary cap, and the need to send multiple players to the AHL could be keeping him from suiting up. Langkow has been out since breaking a vertebrae in his neck on March 21, 2010, so it is unclear if fitness or the salary cap are keeping him out of game action.

News: Langkow (neck) is taking part in "light workouts" with the Flames, the Calgary Herald reports.

Flames' Langkow (Neck) Cleared to Skate

News: Langkow (neck) has been cleared to skate and is hopeful he can be ready for training camp, reports the Calgary Sun.
Analysis: It has been almost half a year since a slapshot hit Langkow and fractured a vertebrae at the base of his neck. Symptoms related to the injury remain and he is still unable to take contact or even lift weights. But his agent, Nathan Zaseybida, is encouraged by his client's progress. "Over the last couple of weeks, he's had big improvements, and that's pretty typical with the injury," said Zaseybida. But missing more games may still happen.

Daymond Langkow - Day-To-Day (Neck)

News: Langkow (neck) recently visited a team doctor and reported some improvement with his injury, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Langkow's availability at the start of training camp is still up in the air. The Flames recently re-signed another center, Craig Conroy, but GM Jay Feaster said that signing was unrelated to Langkow's status.

Langkow back in Calgary

News: Flames center Daymond Langkow flew back to Calgary on Monday, a day after leaving a game on a stretcher against the Minnesota Wild. The 33-year-old spent Sunday night in a St. Paul hospital following the Flames' 4-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild, undergoing tests after taking a shot off the back of his neck. "I think any time you see a player that's taken off on a stretcher, obviously it plays on your mind," Flames assistant coach Dave Lowry said. At 5:20 of the second period, Langkow was checked in front of the Minnesota net by Wild defenseman Greg Zanon. With Langkow's head down as he fell forward, Calgary defenseman Ian White fired a point shot that hit his teammate at the base of the neck in between his shoulder blades. Langkow lay motionless on the ice for 10 minutes before being carried off on a stretcher.
Analysis: Langkow has been ruled out indefinitely. "You never want to see that," defenseman Cory Sarich said. "It's scary, especially when it's a teammate and a guy you're close with. It's freaky and really scary, but (we're) just glad to hear he's doing well and that's the main thing." Langkow managed an assist before getting injured, giving him four points (two goals) in his last seven games. Unfortunately, the veteran forward has just 37 points in 72 games and will see a decline in offensive production for the third straight season. Langkow is getting up there in years and could be on the verge of retirement. He is a solid veteran presence, but he has become a very low-end Fantasy flier when healthy.

Langkow (neck) out indefinitely

News: TSN.ca reports that Flames C Daymond Langkow is out indefinitely after taking a slap shot off the back of his neck on Sunday.
Analysis: When healthy, Langkow is a nice veteran presence for the Flames, but his offensive production has declined over the last few years. You have to think Langkow might miss a few days at least with this issue, so bench him in all formats for Fantasy Week 23 (March 22-28).
