Devils' Elias: Goals In Back-To-Back Games

News: Patrik Elias registered a goal in Thursday's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: Patrik Elias' second-period tally was his second in as many games and ties him him with John LeClair and Rod Gilbert for 87th place all-time in league history. Despite the late surge, Elias looks poised to finish with his lowest point total (34) for a full season since 1996-97, while his minus-19 rating is by far a career-worst mark.

Devils' Elias Snaps 13-Game Goal Slump

News: Patrik Elias snapped a 13-game goal drought when he tapped the keg for his 11th of the season in Saturday's loss to the Hurricanes.
Analysis: It's been a long season for the 38-year-old center, who has suffered through back spasms and been surrounded by a queasy supporting cast. We're not sure how much longer Patrik Elias will play, but he already has HOF-like numbers (1,014 points, including 404 goals, in 1,217 games).

Devils' Elias Will Play Saturday

News: Patrik Elias (back) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Islanders, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Though Patrik Elias hasn't practiced with the Devils since suffering the injury setback last week, he was cleared to play after skating on his own Friday and Saturday without much aggravation. The aging winger's production has been way down this season with only 10 goals and 29 points over 58 games, but with much of the Devils' forward ranks lacking in offensive upside, Elias should hold down a top-six role the rest of the way.

Devils' Elias 'A Possibility' For Saturday

News: GM Lou Lamoriello said Patrik Elias (back) is a "possibility" to play Saturday against the Islanders, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias skated on his own Saturday morning to test out the injury, but the Devils aren't expected to provide an update on the forward's status until team brass meets with the media about an hour before the 6:00 ET puck drop. With both Elias and Michael Cammalleri (illness) uncertain to play Saturday, the Devils recalled Stefan Matteau and Reid Boucher from AHL Albany on an emergency basis in the event neither of the ailing players can go.

Devils' Elias Skates On Own Friday

News: Patrik Elias (back) was able to skate on his own Friday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias hasn't practiced with the Devils since suffering the injury last week, missing the team's last three games as a result. However, that didn't prevent GM Lou Lamoriello from ruling Elias out for Saturday's game against the Islanders. The team will likely check back in on Elias' condition in the morning before reaching a decision on his status for the game.

New Jersey's Elias Still Sidelined

News: Patrik Elias (back spasms) did not practice Thursday.
Analysis: Per the report, Patrik Elias will not travel to Buffalo for Friday's contest, with his status for Saturday's home game against the Islanders cloudy as well.

New Jersey's Elias Out Tuesday

News: Patrik Elias (back) won't play Tuesday against the Penguins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: With Patrik Elias sidelined again and day-to-day as Friday's game against the Sabres approaches, it looks like Michael Ryder could remain in New Jersey's lineup for Tuesday's contest.

New Jersey's Elias Iffy For Tuesday

News: Patrik Elias (back) is day to-to-day as Tuesday's game against the Penguins approaches, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: When asked Monday if there is a possibility that Patrik Elias -- who has been dealing with back spasms -- could play Tuesday, GM and interim coach LouLamoriello noted, "I couldn't answer that right now. I don't know. He's not ruled out or is he ruled in."

Devils' Elias (Back) Out Saturday

News: Patrik Elias (back) will not take the ice in Saturday's game against the Coyotes, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias should be considered day-to-day moving forward as he continues to deal with a back injury. His next opportunity to take the ice will be Tuesday against the Penguins.

Devils' Elias Will Be A Game-Time Decision

News: Patrik Elias is dealing with back spasms and will be a game-time decision for Saturday's tilt with the Coyotes, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias, who apparently left Friday's practice early because of the injury, received some treatment Saturday morning. The winger noted that while he felt "the same as [Friday]" after arriving for treatment, he'll wait until the afternoon to see if he notices any improvement with his condition. Michael Ryder or Martin Havlat would suit up in Elias' place if he can't play.

Devils' Elias Assists On Game-Winner

News: Patrik Elias assisted on Andy Greene's game-winning goal in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: It's been a brutal season for Patrik Elias from both a health and performance perspective. In addition to missing 10 games, Elias has recorded 26 points and a minus-13 rating, both of which put him on track for career worsts in both categories. Despite his dropoff in productivity, Elias has at least been able to avoid long scoring droughts. He's gone no more than five games without a point this season.

Devils' Elias Scores In Loss

News: Patrik Elias scored the team's lone goal in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Oilers.
Analysis: Patrik Elias has just 23 points on the season, but 10 of those have come in his last 14 games. At 38-years-old his production isn't anywhere near the level as it once was, but he could be worthy of a fantasy roster spot, especially in deeper leagues, while he's on a roll.

Devils' Elias Scores 400th Career Goal

News: Patrik Elias scored his 400th career NHL goal in Friday's win over Toronto.
Analysis: A big milestone for Patrik Elias, who has seven goals and 22 points in 47 games this season. At 38 years of age, Elias is no longer the 90-point producer he once was, but he's still capable of delivering respectable offensive totals. While he's on pace for just short of 40 points, Elias has collected nine points in his last 12 games, making him worth a look in some deeper leagues.

Devils' Elias (Elbow) Looks Set To Play

News: Patrik Elias (elbow) appears set to play Wednesday against the Kings, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Despite hyperextending his elbow in Monday's practice, Patrik Elias traveled with the team to Los Angeles and was a full participant in the team's morning skate. He's probably not completely recovered from the injury, but evidently, the Devils don't believe it's the type of ailment that will impact his performance too significantly.

New Jersey's Elias Hurts Elbow

News: Patrik Elias suffered a hyperextended elbow during Monday's practice, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias expects to travel with the team for New Jersey's upcoming three-game west coast trip, but his status for Wednesday's game against the Kings is now unclear.

New Jersey's Elias Exits Monday's Practice

News: Patrik Elias left Monday's practice with an apparent injury, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias' unspecified injury occurred on a collision at Monday's practice, but Gulitti's initial report suggests that the issue "did not appear to be anything serious."

Devils' Elias Reaches 1,000 Career Points

News: Patrik Elias scored a goal, added a shorthanded assist, and grabbed an empty-net assist -- accounting for his 1,000th career point -- in Tuesday's win over Buffalo.
Analysis: Patrik Elias has now tallied goals in consecutive games, adding some shine to what's been a truly awful season. Of course, he'll turn 39 this year, so he can be forgiven for not being that productive in the twilight of his career. Not everyone can be Jaromir Jagr.

Devils' Elias (Illness) Will Play Friday

News: Patrik Elias (illness) confirmed after the Devils' morning skate that he will be activated from IR and return to the lineup Friday versus the Canadiens, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias has been skating for the last few days after he was cleared to rejoin the team when his mumps symptoms subsided. After taking part fully in the team's morning skate, he's expected to reclaim a spot on the second line, where he'll join Travis Zajac and Martin Havlat. Elias is regarded as one of the Devils' better offensive threats, but with just four goals, 13 points and a minus-16 rating over 29 games, he's not lived up to his end of the bargain.

Devils' Elias (Illness) Could Play Friday

News: Patrik Elias (illness) was on the ice for the Devils' gameday skate, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: It remains to be seen just how involved he'll be in the session, but it seemingly give him a chance at playing Friday against the Canadiens following a bout with the mumps. He remains listed on the team's injured reserve list from now, so his return won't become official until he's activated.

Devils' Elias Won't Return Wednesday

News: Patrik Elias (illness) won't play in Wednesday's game against the Red Wings, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias resumed skating earlier this week, but wasn't given the go-ahead to travel with the team to Detroit for Wednesday's game. Instead, Elias will continue to work out in New Jersey with the hope that he'll be cleared to play in either or both of the Devils' back-to-back weekend contests.

Devils' Elias Resumes Skating

News: Patrik Elias (illness) has been able to skate the previous two days, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias' mumps symptoms have subsided at this point, but it's unknown if the Devils feel he's healthy enough to contribute Wednesday against the Red Wings. Expect the team to make a ruling on his status following Wednesday's morning skate.

Devils' Elias (Illness) Could Skate In A Few Days

News: Patrik Elias (illness) could resume skating in a couple of days, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: The fact that Patrik Elias is already in line to get back on the ice so soon after being diagnosed with the mumps is certainly promising. While the capacity in which Elias will be able to practice in a couple of days is uncertain at this time, it seems likely that the veteran winger could return to the Devils' lineup as soon as Wednesday against the Red Wings. The team should continue to update his status in the coming days.

Devils' Elias (Illness) Placed On Injured Reserve

News: Patrik Elias (illness) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
Analysis: Patrik Elias was confirmed to have a case of the mumps when his test results came back Friday, and the Devils decided to move him to injured reserve as a result. He last played in a game well over a week ago anyway, meaning the move will just temporarily open a roster spot and he should be able to return when he's ready. The winger has already been ruled out for Saturday's contest, so his next possibility to return will be Monday against the Penguins.

Devils' Elias Dealing With The Mumps

News: Patrik Elias is confirmed to have a case of the mumps, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias is the latest in a long list of players dealing with the virus, but it's unclear how long it will cause him to miss. He will not be available for Saturday's game against the Rangers, meaning his next opportunity to return will be Monday against the Penguins.

Devils' Elias Unavailable Tuesday

News: Patrik Elias will be unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias got tested for the mumps on Monday and his results have apparently not been returned as of Tuesday. He will likely hear about his results over the three-day holiday break, and could return for Saturday's contest against the Rangers if he tests negative for the virus.
