Devils' Elias (Groin) To Play Wednesday

News: Patrik Elias (groin) will be activated from injured reserve to play Wednesday against the Senators, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias missed the last five games with the groin injury, which he initially suffered earlier in the month before enduring a setback in his first game back. The time off the ice has seemingly done the trick in enabling him to recover, so he'll slot back in on the second line Wednesday night, joining Travis Zajac and Martin Havlat. The veteran has scuffled this season for the Devils, producing just 12 points and a minus-12 rating across his 26 contests.

Devils Move Elias To IR

News: Patrik Elias (groin) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: With the Devils dealing with a number of injuries at forward in advance of Tuesday's game versus the Blackhawks, Patrik Elias will move to IR in order to free up roster space for Reid Boucher, who was recalled from AHL Albany. It's uncertain when Elias will return to the lineup, but since his IR designation carries a retroactive date of Dec. 6, he'll be forced to miss at least the team's next three games.

Devils' Elias Out On Monday With Groin Injury

News: Patrik Elias (groin) will not travel with the team for their game on Monday against the Hurricanes, Rich Chere of The Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias ended up suiting up in the Devils' 4-1 loss to the Capitals on Saturday, tallying the team's only goal. After Monday's tilt, the Devils will have a quick turnaround in returning home for the second game of a back-to-back Tuesday versus Chicago, so it's possible Elias may be forced to sit out that game as well.

Devils' Elias Expects To Play Saturday

News: Patrik Elias (groin) said he expects to play Saturday against the Capitals.
Analysis: The groin strain threatened to keep Patrik Elias off the ice for a second straight game, but the 38-year-old made it through Saturday's morning skate without a setback and sounds confident he'll be given the green light to return to action. Elias has chipped in two goals and nine assists so far this season, albeit with a minus-12 rating.

Devils' Elias (Groin) Skating Saturday Morning

News: Patrik Elias (groin) was on the ice for Saturday's morning skate, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias left Tuesday's game with a groin injury and was forced to sit Thursday, but it sounds like he may be able to return Saturday against Washington. Look for the team to make an official decision on his status shortly after morning skate concludes.

Devils' Elias Day-To-Day

News: Patrik Elias (groin) is considered day-to-day, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: It sounds unlikely that Patrik Elias will be able to play Saturday against the Capitals, but his status won't officially be known until after the Devils hold their morning skate. The winger, who missed Thursday's win over the Leafs with the injury, has 11 points in 25 games this season.

Devils' Elias Out Thursday

News: Patrik Elias (groin) will not play Thursday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias had a chance to play Thursday, but he will miss at least one game due to the groin injury that forced him from Tuesday's game. With a couple other forwards also not healthy, the Devils will likely recall a player from the AHL on Thursday.

Devils' Elias Has Groin Injury

News: Patrik Elias is dealing with a groin injury and is questionable to play Thursday against the Maple Leafs, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias traveled with the Devils to Toronto, but it's not certain whether he'll show enough improvement Thursday morning for coach Pete DeBoer to confidently insert him into his lineup. Stephen Gionta, Martin Havlat and Jaromir Jagr are also banged up, which could for the Devils to make some mass call-ups from AHL Albany.

Devils' Elias Departs With Injury

News: Patrik Elias left Tuesday's game against the Penguins with an undisclosed injury, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias saw 5:09 worth of ice time in his seven shifts before leaving with the injury, which may have occurred when he was struck by teammate Scott Gomez's shot. The 38-year-old was one of three New Jersey forwards who left Tuesday with an injury, resulting in the team running just three lines by the third period. Expect the Devils to provide an update on his condition prior to Thursday's game against Toronto.

Devils' Elias Finally Ends Goal Drought

News: Patrik Elias potted the Devils' lone goal in Tuesday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Patrik Elias has three points in his last two contests, but the goal was his first since Opening Night -- a 17-game drought. The aging forward is barely attempting more than a shot per game and isn't ideally suited for the primary scoring role the Devils have earmarked for him.

Devils' Elias: No Goals Since Opening Night

News: Patrik Elias picked up two assists in Saturday's loss to the Avalanche. The points are his first in five games and he has just four points in his last 10 games.
Analysis: He picked up a point in each of his first three games and we all thought it was going to be just another strong season from the veteran. But he has six points -- all assists -- in his last 15 games and he hasn't potted a goal since opening night. We could be witnessing the start of the decline for this one-time 40-goal man. Bench him until he shows a bit more life.

Production Slowing Down For Devils' Elias

News: Patrik Elias notched an assist in Thursday's loss to the Blues.
Analysis: Since providing a point in each of his first three games, Patrik Elias' production has just about dried up. He's contributed no goals and four assists over the Devils' last 10 games, which has unsurprisingly coincided with the team's offensive downturn. With both Michael Cammelleri and Adam Henrique nursing injuries, the Devils are desperate for Elias to be a driving force for the offense, but he hasn't proven up to the task thus far.

Devils' Elias Remains Productive

News: Patrik Elias added one point and an assist in the Devils' win against the Senators on Saturday.
Analysis: The three takeaways are brutal, but this type of production is typical of Patrik Elias.

Devils' Elias Pots Goal In Opener

News: Patrik Elias scored a third-period goal in Thursday's win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Patrik Elias gave the Flyers a short-lived 4-3 lead, before Vincent Lecavalier answered for the tying score just 15 seconds later. At 38 years old, Elias is one of the elder statesmen of the Devils' aging forward corps, but he's still managed to stay relevant in deeper leagues the last few seasons. In addition to the goal, Elias finished with a two penalty minutes, eight faceoff wins, and a plus-2 rating over his 15:55 of ice time.

Elias Scores In Devils' Loss

News: Patrik Elias scored one of New Jersey's two goals in Friday's shootout loss to the Islanders, giving him 18 goals on the year.
Analysis: Patrik Elias has missed a handful of games to nagging injuries this season but still has a steady 52 points through 64 games for a team that has been shut out as often as the Devils have.

Devils' Elias To Play Thursday

News: Patrik Elias (head) will be in the lineup Thursday against the Senators, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Despite missing the past two games, Patrik Elias has yet another 50-point season on his ledger, the 12th of his illustrious career. He'll have two years remaining on his contract after the 2013-14 campaign.

Devils' Elias Out Saturday

News: Patrik Elias (head) is out for Saturday's game, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias is joined on the injured list by Adam Henrique and Jacob Josefson, leaving the Devils without a trio of key forwards. The team didn't opt for any call-ups, indicating that Stephen Gionta (lower body) will likely return for Saturday's game.

Devils' Elias Done For Night

News: Patrik Elias, who suffered a possible head injury during Friday's game, will not return to the contest, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias took a big hit into the boards early in the game, and he went down grabbing his head after it rammed into the barrier between the two teams' benches. Nothing has been confirmed, but a concussion is the most likely diagnosis.

Devils' Elias Injured Friday

News: Patrik Elias did not return for the start of the second period after exiting Friday's game in the first period with an unspecified injury, The Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias took a hard hit about halfway through the first period, and he seems unlikely to return to Friday's game. The star forward's head hit the barrier between the Devils' and Caps' benches, so a concussion is certainly possible. Elias crumpled to the ground immediately after hitting his head but did not appear to lose consciousness.

Assist Trick For Devils' Elias

News: Patrik Elias picked up a trio of assists and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's overtime win over the Wild.
Analysis: One of the helpers came shorthanded, another came on Andy Greene's overtime winner, and all three came in combination with Adam Henrique, who finished with a near-identical line. Patrik Elias continues to rattle off points with impressive consistency -- a terrific 15 of 'em in his last 11 games. He's a great fantasy option right now.

Elias Active In Devils' Loss

News: Patrik Elias grabbed a goal and an assist in Friday's 5-3 loss to Florida, his first goal in three games.
Analysis: Patrik Elias also chipped in an uncharacteristic 12 penalty minutes stemming from an incident with Joey Crabb in the game's waning moments. Elias remains one of New Jersey's top offensive options and has a solid 44 points in 52 games.

Devils' Elias Scores Goal In Loss Friday

News: Patrik Elias scored his 14th goal of the season during the Devils' 7-4 loss to the Red Wings on Friday.
Analysis: Patrik Elias scored an unassisted shorthanded goal to put the Devils on the scoreboard and cut the deficit in half early in the second period. Though it sparked a Devils rally to take the lead, the Red Wings were just too much for them to handle. Elias now has 14 goals and 27 assists over 49 games this season.

Three Points For Devils' Elias On Thursday

News: Patrik Elias potted a goal and picked up two assists in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Patrik Elias battled through an illness for much of his time in Sochi with the Czech Republic team, but appeared to play with a sense of renewed energy in his first game back with the Devils. With 12 goals and 24 assists in 45 games, Elias has still managed to maintain fantasy relevance across most formats, even at the ripe age of 37.

Devils' Elias Healthy

News: Patrik Elias (illness) will be in the lineup Wednesday against Team USA, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias missed the Czech team's last two games with the flu, but will be healthy enough to return Wednesday. He should be considered fully healthy for when the Devils resume playing.

Devils' Elias Out Again Tuesday With Illness

News: Patrik Elias (illness) will not suit up for the Czech Republic on Tuesday against Slovakia, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Patrik Elias was able to take part in the team's morning skate, but he was apparently too debilitated by the illness to suit up for the elimination game. If the Czechs defeat Slovakia, they'd have a quick turnaround against the United States on Wednesday, making it very possible that Elias misses a third straight game.
