News:Chris Phillips, who left Sunday's game against the Bruins with a lower-body injury, will play Thursday against the Canadiens, the Senators' official site reports.
Analysis:Chris Phillips, who recorded 14 points and 43 PIMs in 48 games during the regular season, will be out there if you need him Thursday, but he's only really an option for those in deeper playoff formats.
News:Chris Phillips sustained a lower-body injury in the first period of Sunday's game against the Bruins.
Analysis: The report adds that Chris Phillips will not return to the contest as a precaution. The veteran blueliner thus finishes up the regular season with 14 points and 43 PIMs in 48 games.
News:Chris Phillips scored his fifth of the year in Monday's win over New Jersey.
Analysis:Chris Phillips has tallied five goals and five assists over 33 games this year, with only two points in his last seven games. Don't expect much production from Phillips right now.
News:Chris Phillips had two assists against the Bruins on Monday. He was also a plus-2 and played a whopping 28:01.
Analysis:Chris Phillips only has eight points in 26 games, but he's picked up four assists in his last three games. He's also a plus-5 in his last four contests.
News:Chris Phillips scored twice -- once on the power play -- in Thursday's win over Nashville, his first two goals of the season in his 55th game.
Analysis: It was also the 1,000th game of his career, a nice milestone for the tough blue-liner. He scored just one goal all of last season, so this is quite the offensive outburst by Chris Phillips' standards.
News:Chris Phillips (concussion) will play in Saturday's game against the Flyers, according to the Senators' official Twitter page.
Analysis: Fortunately for Chris Phillips his concussion symptoms went away fairly quickly. He figures to be part of the Senators' second or third defensive pairing Saturday afternoon.
News:Chris Phillips (concussion) could return to the Ottawa lineup as early as the weekend, the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: With 10 assists and 12 PIMs in 39 games thus far, Chris Phillips is a marginal fantasy option. On the bright side, he is even in the plus/minus department after recording a horrid minus-35 mark last season.
News:Chris Phillips (upper body) is questionable for Thursday's game against Tampa Bay, TSN reports.
Analysis:Chris Phillips left Monday's game early with the upper body injury and is considered day-to-day.
News:Chris Phillips played just 9:14 in Monday's win over Ottawa, leaving the game with an apparent injury.
Analysis: There is no word on the extent of Chris Phillips' injury, but his absence from the team's bench was conspicuous.
News:Chris Phillips (undisclosed) will return to the lineup Friday night, according to the Senators' official Twitter page.
Analysis:Chris Phillips sat out last game with an unspecified ailment, but his absence was brief - he'll be among the Senators' top six defenders Friday night.
News:Chris Phillips will not play Tuesday due to an undisclosed injury, according to the Senators' official Twitter page.
Analysis:Chris Phillips injury is apparently not serious, but it will cost him his first game since the 2007-08 season. Phillips has recorded nine points (all assists) in 36 games this season after putting up the same total in 82 games last season.
News:Chris Phillips (back) played nearly 21 minutes in Friday's opener against the Red Wings.
Analysis: He finished the evening minus-1 on a night where the Sens faced a 5-0 deficit early in the third period. Chris Phillips used to be a 20-25 point blueliner, but he's been passed over by younger options in Ottawa as evidenced by his nine-point effort over 82 games last season.
News:Chris Phillips (back) didn't skate Thursday, The Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: The defenseman's tightness in his back is troubling, and his availability for the regular season opener is uncertain. The usually durable Chris Phillips has played 82 games in four of the past five seasons.
News: Ottawa has signed Phillips to a three-year, $9.25 million contract reports the Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch.
Analysis: He took a pay cut to stay with the only NHL team he's ever played for. Phillips was scheduled to be a UFA come July 1, but stated publicly he wanted to be part of Ottawa's rebuild. His veteran presence will certainly be needed next season as Ottawa will likely have two of its blue-chip defensive prospects, Jared Cowen and David Rundblad, in next year's starting lineup.
News: Phillips scored his first goal in 72 games in Saturday's win over the Flyers.
Analysis: It may, in fact, be his last as a Senator as his name continues to be tossed around in trade discussions. He's a UFA with a no-trade clause but the Sens may come to him with an offer in the next 36 hours. His fantasy value is limited; he's much better in the on-ice arena.
News: Senators D Chris Phillips scored a goal and finished at plus-1 on Thursday against the Capitals. Alexei Kovalev assisted on Phillips' seventh goal 2:23 into the third that put the Senators up 5-4. It was Phillips' first goal since Jan. 21.
Analysis: Phillips has scored four times since Jan. 1 and has been a surprising scoring presence for Ottawa. However, he still has never broken 10 goals in his career, so he is going to have to produce heavily down the stretch to reach that feat for the first time. Phillips is producing par for the course. He will contribute offensively at times, but Phillips is on the ice for his defense. Think of him as a low-end Fantasy option and potential flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats.
News:Peter Regin picked up his third power-play point of the game with an assist on Chris Phillips' goal midway through the third and the Senators extended their streak to five wins in a row with a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. Regin, who opened the scoring in the first, got his second assist of the game as Phillips put a wrist shot from the slot past Chris Mason 10:29 into the third for Ottawa's third power-play goal of the game.
Analysis: Phillips' goal, his sixth of the season, was his second game-winner in four games. Of his 58 career goals, 13 have been game-winners. Phillips has a knack for clutch scores. It's just too bad he doesn't score on a more frequent basis. He will contribute offensively at times, but Phillips is on the ice for his defense. Think of him as a low-end Fantasy option and potential flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats.
News: Senators D Chris Phillips failed to tally a point and finished at plus-3 in 23:31 of ice time on Sunday against the Flyers. He has two assists in his last five games.
Analysis: Phillips has only 12 points in 42 games, so he is clearly not an offensive juggernaut. That is not Phillips' game. He will contribute offensively at times, but Phillips is on the ice for his defense. Think of him as a low-end Fantasy option and potential flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats.
News: Senators D Chris Phillips scored twice in his 800th regular-season game as the Ottawa Senators cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday. Phillips, who entered with one goal in 18 games, scored goals 2:03 apart in the third to put Ottawa up 5-1 and chase Pittsburgh G Marc-Andre Fleury. "I'm not expected to, for sure," Phillips said. "It feels good to do it and it felt like one of those high energy games, for us anyways, and it's nice."
Analysis: Phillips has only broken through the 25-point barrier once in his lengthy career, so just think of him as a low-end Fantasy option and potential flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats.
News: Senators D Chris Phillips scored a goal and finished at plus-4 during Thursday's game against the Predators. Phillips scored the tying goal for the Senators with 1.6 seconds left while Ottawa was short-handed and Pascal Leclaire on the bench for an extra attacker. It was his first goal of the season.
Analysis: Phillips is a veteran of 12 seasons in the NHL, all with Ottawa. He continues to be one of their most valuable blueliners and logs heavy PT. Phillips can get it done on offense, but he just never really posts outstanding numbers. Phillips is a low-end Fantasy option and potential flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats.
News: Senators defensemen Brendan Bell, Filip Kuba and Chris Phillips all picked up two assists in Thursday's win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Bell has taken a back seat to Chris Campoli since the former Islander arrived at the trade deadline. While he remains a nice young prospect, he should probably not be used in Fantasy play right now. Kuba is now only two points behind his career high of 37. He has come down to earth after a hot start, but remains a decent low-end starting Fantasy forward in deeper formats. Phillips doesn't do enough to be anything more than a low-end Fantasy option.
News: Ottawa D Chris Phillips increased his points total to 17 on Wednesday, adding two assists to his total with 17 points with five goals and 12 assists.
Analysis: Phillips is getting credited with assists on a more regular basis of late, but isn't doing enough to be anything more than a low-end Fantasy option.
News: Craig Hartsburg lasted less than one season with the unraveling Ottawa Senators, who suddenly have a revolving door behind the bench. Unable to turn around a team that reached the Stanley Cup finals in 2007, Hartsburg was fired as coach Monday just 48 games into a season in which the Senators have the NHL's third worst record. The Senators made their first trip to the finals two years ago and now are likely to miss the playoffs for the first time in 13 seasons. The decision to replace Hartsburg with Cory Clouston was made by general manager Bryan Murray after Ottawa lost 7-4 at Washington on Sunday. Hartsburg signed a three-year contract in June. "We kept hoping there would be some change in our performance, which didn't seem to be taking place," said Murray, who coached the club to the finals before taking over as GM. "We just weren't making any progress. We're struggling to keep up."
Analysis: Clouston, promoted from the AHL's Binghamton Senators, is the team's fourth coach since Ottawa lost in five games to Anaheim in the 2007 finals. Murray returned behind the bench for the final 18 regular-season games (7-9-2) after he fired first-year coach John Paddock in February. The momentum of the finals appearance carried into last season when the Senators won 15 of their first 17 games. Since then, they have had a losing record and barely managed to hang on for a playoff spot last spring. The Senators were swept out of the first round in four games by Pittsburgh. The slide continued this season, even with a fresh voice in Hartsburg behind the bench. Scoring is down for the club's three offensive stars -- Daniel Alfredsson, Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza. There has been little offense as well from Mike Fisher, Antoine Vermette, Chris Neil and Chris Kelly. The once-feared Ottawa attack has become among the lowest-scoring in the league, and many point to the failure of defensemen to move the puck. In recent years, Zdeno Chara, Wade Redden, Andrej Meszaros and Joe Corvo have been among the defensemen who have left Ottawa either by trade or through free agency. Ottawa hasn't gotten much production from their blue line outside of Filip Kuba. Clouston will likely let the Big Three fire at will, but it will be interesting to see if he can get the other supporting characters back to being viable Fantasy options.
News: Senators D Chris Phillips tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 in 22:24 of ice time Sunday against the Capitals. It was his first point in seven games and his first assist since Dec. 20.
Analysis: Phillips hit 10 points Sunday, but still has an ugly minus-20 rating. He is one of Ottawa's top-logging defenseman, but that hasn't been a good thing in 2008-09 since the Senators have struggled. Phillips can usually be counted on for a solid plus/minus rating, but not this season. He has low-end Fantasy appeal at this time.
News: Senators D Chris Phillips scored his fourth goal in the last 10 games as Ottawa defeated the Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Analysis: Phillips was in a slump all season until late December, but has showed some nice goal-scoring touch over the last few weeks. However, because he doesn't see any power play time and has a minus-19 rating, Phillips has minimal Fantasy value at the moment.
News: Senators D Chris Phillips scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Thursday's game against the Bruins. Phillips cut Boston's lead in half when his wrist shot squeezed through a screened Manny Fernandez at 12:14 of the first period. It was his second goal in seven games.
Analysis: Phillips has just eight points this season and a nasty minus-19 rating. He has finished under even just once in his career and that came back in 1998-99. He has been one of the league's top defenders for the last decade and hopefully he can break out of his funk shortly. Phillips remains just a low-end Fantasy defenseman and possible flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats.
News: Senators D Chris Phillips tallied an assist and finished at even in 21:04 of ice time Tuesday against the Thrashers. It was his first point in 10 games. Phillips still hasn't scored this season and has just three points in 30 games. He also has a minus-12 rating.
Analysis: Phillips has finished under even just once in his career and that came back in 1998-99. He has been one of the league's top defenders for the last decade and hopefully he can break out of his funk shortly. Phillips remains just a low-end Fantasy defenseman and possible flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats.
News: Ottawa D Chris Phillips , bothered by a sore foot, was in the lineup Saturday against the Lightning. Phillips led the team in ice time by more than four minutes, totaling 27:49. However, he didn't get a point and finished at even.
Analysis: Phillips has just one assist in 11 games and has seen most of the blue-line offense go to Filip Kuba. Until Phillips can turn his season around, he remains a low-end Fantasy option. He is still a good option, however, in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed minutes.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Chris Phillips, who is supposed to be the team's top blue liner, continues to have his struggles. Phillips is now at minus-6 on the season after finishing at minus-2 Saturday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Phillips has just one assist in eight games and has seen most of the blue-line offense go to Filip Kuba, who has at least one assist in all eight games. Until Phillips can turn his season around, he remains a low-end Fantasy option. He is still a good option, however, in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed minutes.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Chris Phillips was in the box when rookie Alex Goligoski broke Alex Auld's shutout with two seconds left in Sunday's 3-1 win against the Penguins. Phillips wound up serving a minor for going after Penguins LW Matt Cooke, who had just hit laid a hit on Daniel Alfredsson. While the Senators would have liked to get Auld the goose egg, it was more important for Phillips to make the statement that the Senators will not stand by and allow liberties to be taken with their captain, especially after Alfredsson was sidelined last year by a hit from Mark Bell in the last game.
Analysis: Phillips has never been top muscle for the Senators, but he definitely is not afraid to throw his weight around when necessary. The Senators cleaned a little house on defense in the offseason as they lost two of their top blue liners in Wade Redden and Andrej Meszaros. Their losses could open the door for Phillips to be the team's top offensive blue liner. Phillips has been with Ottawa since entering the league in 1997-98. He has never broken 30 points, but has always posted a solid plus/minus rating (plus-114 for his career). Consider Phillips a low-end Fantasy defenseman heading into the season, but definitely keep tabs on his progress.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Filip Kuba had three assists through the team's first three preseason games, giving him a share of the Senators' scoring lead with defensive partner Jason Smith. Those two are expected to start the season together, while Chris Phillips and Anton Volchenkov form the team's top pairing.

Their losses could open the door for Phillips to be the team's top offensive blue liner. Phillips has been with Ottawa since entering the league in 1997-98. News: D Chris Phillips snapped a lengthy 10-game without a point on Tuesday when he picked up two assists in the 5-3 loss to the Florida Panthers. Phillips is up to 10 assists and three goals for the season. The last time he scored a goal, though, was on Nov. 22.
Analysis: Obviously, Phillips does not have much of a Fantasy impact, but maybe for his plus/minus rating which is an impressive plus-13 through the first half of the season.
News: Senators D Chris Phillips scored his third goal of the season on a power play during the first period of Thursday's game against the Penguins. It was his second goal in November and first since Nov. 6 against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Phillips hasn't been much of a Fantasy force in November, but still owns a plus-12 rating. He is a solid starter in most Fantasy formats, especially because his plus/minus rating will be among the best in the NHL.
News: Senators D Chris Phillips did not record a point Saturday against the Canadiens, but finished at plus-2 during 23:46 of ice time. He has one goal and one assist in his last seven games.
Analysis: Phillips has only five points (2 G, 3 A) on the season, but has an outstanding plus-16 rating. This coming after he posted a plus-36 last season. He is a solid starter in most Fantasy formats, especially because his plus/minus rating will be among the best in the NHL.
News: D Chris Phillips and Patrick Eaves scored goals 47 seconds apart early in the first period and Ottawa set a team record with its eighth straight win, a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
Analysis: It's generally a pretty good sign for the Senators when Phillips scores. They are now 23-1-4 he has put one in over the last seven years and 32-4-4 when he has scored in his decade-long career. He is a solid starter in most Fantasy formats, especially because his plus/minus rating will be among the best in the NHL.
News: Ds Andrej Meszaros and Chris Phillips each chipped in with an assist apiece in Wednesday's regular season opener in an overtime win at Toronto. Meszaros was a plus-1, while Phillips finished with a plus-2.
Analysis: Phillips did not have a particularly great preseason, but Fantasy owners don't get points based on those statistics. He is a must-start in most Fantasy formats, especially because his plus/minus rating will be among the best in the NHL.
News: Chris Phillips has gone scoreless with a minus-3 rating so far through two preseason games for the Senators.
Analysis: We expect Phillips to rebound heading into the regular season. He and most other Ottawa defensemen remain solid Fantasy plays for their outstanding production in the plus/minus category.
News: Chris Phillips picked up two assists and a plus-3 rating in Tuesday's game at St. Louis.
Analysis: Phillips ended a nine-game scoreless drought with the two assists. He also has gone nine consecutive games without a penalty, which is not helping Fantasy owners in leagues which reward PIM.

Analysis: Phillips is worth adding in all Rotisserie Fantasy leagues if you need help in the plus/minus department.
News: The first period goal by Senators D Chris Phillips on Wednesday was his career-high eighth. It was also his seventh at even strength. At the time it crossed the goal line, only L.A.'s Lubomir Visnovsky had more.
Analysis: Phillips has two goals in his last three games. He has only gone over 20 points twice in his nine-year career, but with 19 already this season, he is likely to make it a third season. He helps Roto owners a lot more than those in weekly Fantasy formats, but is still a decent low-end Fantasy defender.
News: Chris Phillips has managed five goals, 11 assists and a plus-13 rating with 48 penalty minutes in 50 games through the All-Star break.
Analysis: Phillips has just one goal and three assists over the past seven games, but he has managed a plus-8 rating. He helps Roto owners a lot more than those in weekly Fantasy formats.
News: Chris Phillips has managed four goals and 11 points with a plus-5 rating and 44 penalty minutes through 41 games.
Analysis: Phillips remains a decent No. 4 or 5 Fantasy defenseman in leagues of 12 or more teams at this point.
News: Chris Phillips was scoreless in Tuesday's game at N.Y. Islanders with four blocked shots in 26:56 of ice time.
Analysis: Phillips has not scored a goal in eight games and only has three assists during the stretch. He is only worth a look in larger Fantasy leagues at this point.
News: Chris Phillips, Christoph Schubert and Anton Volchenkov all went scoreless in Tuesday's game at Toronto.

News: The Ottawa Sun reports Chris Phillips (knee) is nearly ready to return for the playoffs against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

News: Phillips suffered a knee injury in Tuesday's game against the Devils and he will miss three to four weeks.
Analysis: Phillips was hurt in a collision with rookie Zach Parise, so you know who to dislike if you are a Fantasy owner now in search of a defensive replacement. Consider teammate Andrej Meszaros, Anaheim's Francois Beauchemin or Nashville's Dan Hamhuis for the upcoming scoring period.
News: Chris Phillips has posted one goal, 11 assists and a plus-16 rating through 54 games at the Olympic Games break. He also has 76 penalty minutes this season.
