Bruins Trade Smith To Florida

News: Reilly Smith has been traded by the Bruins to the Panthers in a deal for Jimmy Hayes, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Per the report, Florida will also acquire the contract of the injured Marc Savard in a move that clears up some serious cap room for the Bruins. Reilly Smith, who signed a two-year, $6.85 million extension with Boston last March, is coming off a disappointing campaign in which he recorded just 13 goals and 40 points in 81 games. At 24 years of age though, Smith -- who possesses good stick skills and speed -- is certainly very capable of bouncing back with the Panthers.

Smith Helps Out In Bruins' Win

News: Reilly Smith dished out two assists Thursday in a 3-2 comeback win over Detroit.
Analysis: With the Bruins down 2-0, Reilly Smith went to work, picking up the primary assists on Carl Soderberg's goal to make it 2-1 and Loui Eriksson's game-tying tally. While this year has represented a step back for Smith, he's still been a solid presence and a reliable source of secondary scoring for Boston.

Smith Records Helper In Return

News: Reilly Smith recorded an assist in 15:32 worth of ice time in Sunday's loss to the Lighting.
Analysis: While Reilly Smith did not record a shot in the game, his assist snapped a six-game streak without a point, a slump which led to the winger being made a healthy scratch Saturday against the Panthers. Look for Smith to remain a fixture in the Boston lineup down the stretch, but until he gets into any sort of groove on offense, he'll remain a hit-or-miss fantasy option.

Bruins' Smith Returns To Lineup

News: Reilly Smith will suit up Sunday against the Lightning.
Analysis: Reilly Smith, who was a healthy scratch Saturday against the Panthers, returns to the Bruins' forward mix Sunday after a one-game absence. The winger, who has not scored a point in his last six games, has notched 36 points in 71 games overall, with the B's no doubt hoping that a temporary view from the press box will help Smith round back into form.

Bruins' Smith A Healthy Scratch Saturday

News: Reilly Smith will be a healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Reilly Smith's play over the last few games has been lacking so Boston will give him the night off to regroup. His next opportunity to get back on the ice will come against the Lightning on Sunday.

Bruins' Smith Struggles Thursday

News: Reilly Smith recorded a minus-3 rating in just 7:50 worth of ice time in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Ottawa.
Analysis: Reilly Smith, who has not recorded a point in his last six games, saw limited action Thursday after his second-period turnover led to a deflating Jean-Gabriel Pageau tally that occurred shortly after the B's had tied the game at 3-3. While Smith remains a key part of the Boston attack when he is on, it's plausible that his recent struggles could result in a brief stint in the press box.

Bruins Ink Smith To Two-Year Extension

News: Reilly Smith signed a two-year, $6.85 million extension with the Bruins on Friday, Joe Haggerty of CSN New England reports.
Analysis: Reilly Smith was set to become a restricted free agent this summer, but the extension will lock him in with the Bruins through the end of the 2016-17 season. Generally regarded as a throw-in to the July 2013 deal that sent Tyler Seguin to the Stars, Smith has arguably been the top performer in the four-player haul the Bruins received in return. He hasn't missed a single game during his two years in Boston, and currently ranks second on the team in points (35) and rating (plus-12) -- tied with Milan Lucic in both categories.

Bruins' Smith Chips In Two Assists

News: Reilly Smith contributed two assists -- one on the power play -- in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Reilly Smith has appeared on the score sheet in six of the Bruins' last seven games. During that stretch, he's compiled two goals and six assists while producing a plus-6 rating. Keep him active while Smith enjoys his hottest scoring run of the season.

Bruins' Smith Extends Point Streak In Win

News: Reilly Smith tallied a goal and an assist in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Reilly Smith has been ticking along nicely of late as Sunday ran his point streak to four straight. He's registered five points on just four shots in that span, bringing his season total up to 32 points. The 23-year-old is working at a slower pace than last season when he tallied 51 points, but can still reward fantasy owners with a strong finish.

Bruins' Smith Notches Helper On Monday

News: Reilly Smith notched an assist in 17:02 worth of ice time in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Flames.
Analysis: Reilly Smith, who had gone four games without a point, now checks in with 10 goals and 28 points in 56 games overall, a pace which remains down from his 2013-14 production (51 points in 82 games).

Three-Point Breakout For Bruins' Smith

News: Reilly Smith scored the game's opening goal and had two assists -- one on the power play -- in Thursday's win over the Isles.
Analysis: The third-year man is starting to come along now, as he's got points in three straight games. It's been a slow season for Reilly Smith, but fantasy owners are willing to forgive and forget if he can deliver a strong finish.

Bruins' Smith Notches Helper

News: Reilly Smith recorded an assist in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Stars.
Analysis: Reilly Smith, who had gone five games without a point, checks in with nine goals and 22 points in 47 games to date. He's down from his 2013-14 pace (51 points in 82 games), but given that he typically works with Brad Marchand (who is slated to return from a two-game suspension Wednesday against the Avs) and Patrice Bergeron, there's room for improvement on Smith's part as the season progresses.

Boston's Smith Notches Ninth Goal

News: Reilly Smith tallied his ninth goal of the season in Monday's 5-2 victory over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Reilly Smith kicked off the Bruins' scoring for the night on a feed from Dougie Hamilton that he was able to put past goalie Jimmy Howard. The 23-year-old has recovered well from a plodding start to the season, as December has represented by far his best month of the season to this point. He's produced five goals, four assists and a plus-5 rating over those 13 contests.

Bruins' Smith Producing Steadily

News: Reilly Smith netted a goal in Tuesday's shootout loss to the Predators.
Analysis: After a meager start to the season, Reilly Smith has really clicked since joining Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron on the top trio, tallying four goals and two assists over the last five games. Smith's recent surge in production could make it tough on coach Claude Julien to break up the trio once David Krejci (groin) returns, which could happen as soon as Wednesday's game against the Wild.

Bruins' Smith Contributes Two Helpers

News: Reilly Smith collected a pair of assists and was a plus-2 in Saturday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: That's back-to-back two point outings for Reilly Smith, who is loving life alongside Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron on the top line. With 14 points (six goals) in 28 games, Smith isn't en elite scorer, but his 20-goal potential makes him worth a look in deeper leagues.

Bruins' Smith Notches Two Goals

News: Reilly Smith scored a pair of goals in Thursday's 7-4 loss to the Sharks.
Analysis: In the process, Reilly Smith snapped a 10-game scoreless streak, while upping his season totals to six goals and 12 points in 27 games. Until the production is delivered in a more consistent fashion though, Smith will be a hit-or-miss fantasy option.

Bruins' Smith Notches Two Points

News: Reilly Smith notched a goal and an assist in Monday's 4-2 win over New Jersey.
Analysis: It was the second straight two-point effort for Reilly Smith, who has recorded five points over his last three games, upping his season total to 10 points in 16 games overall. Of late, the Smith/Brad Marchand/Patrice Bergeron trio has been an effective one, with Smith now back on the fantasy radar after a modest start to the current season.

Smith Collects Two Points For Bruins

News: Reilly Smith delivered a goal and a power-play assist in Thursday's win over Edmonton.
Analysis: It's been a bit of a challenge in the early going for Reilly Smith to replicate last season's 51-point performance, but he's been warming to the task lately, having picked up four points and a plus-5 rating in his last four games. Check whether an impatient owner may have cut him loose in your league.

Bruins' Smith Notches Tally

News: Reilly Smith scored his second goal of the season in Wednesday's shootout win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: While the Bruins' offense hasn't taken off yet, Reilly Smith has managed three points in five games to date. Skating with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron, and seeing work on the team's power play, Smith (who notched 51 points in 82 games last season) should see his share of scoring opportunities moving forward.

Smith Returns To Bruins' Lineup

News: Reilly Smith made his preseason debut in Friday's 6-1 win over the Islanders, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Reilly Smith notched a third-period goal in his return to action and appears poised to open the coming season manning right wing on the Bruins' second line, which also features Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron.

Bruins Sign Smith

News: The Bruins signed Reilly Smith to a one-year, $1.4 million deal Monday, USA Today reports.
Analysis: The deal will get the Bruins below the salary cap for this season, but they'll need to renegotiate next summer if they want to keep Reilly Smith around. The winger suited up for every game last season, racking up 20 goals and 31 assists.

Bruins' Smith Still Unsigned

News: There have been no visible developments with regard to the contract situations of Reilly Smith and Torey Krug, according to the Boston Herald.
Analysis: While we expect that the restricted free agents, who remain away from training camp, will be back with the team in time, the Bruins may need to make a trade in order to free up the salary cap room necessary to make that happen. Once Reilly Smith (who recorded 20 goals and 51 points in 82 games last season) does rejoin the Bruins, he'll presumably skate on a line with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron.

Bruins Hope To Sign Smith Soon

News: GM Peter Chiarelli hopes to have a new deal with Reilly Smith done before training camp starts on Thursday, the Bruins' official site reports.
Analysis: The same applies to fellow restricted free agent Torey Krug, though given the team's current salary cap situation, the Bruins may need to make a trade in order to complete new deals with the duo. In any case, once he's re-signed, Reilly Smith remains on track to serve as a top-six forward for the B's, on the heels of a 2013-14 season in which he notched 20 goals and 51 points in 82 games.

Bruins' Smith Notches Helper

News: Reilly Smith recorded an assist in Thursday's shootout loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Reilly Smith, who has points in each of his last two games, checks in with 20 goals and 51 points in 80 games to date. Acquired by the Bruins in the Tyler Seguin deal this past summer, Smith has been one of the team's most pleasant surprises this season, displaying good stick skills and speed, while mostly working of the team's balanced second line, along with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron.

Bruins' Smith Ends Goalless Skid

News: Reilly Smith potted his 19th goal of the season in Monday's 4-1 win over the Wild.
Analysis: The Bruins have been on a roll offensively for a while now, but Reilly Smith hasn't been much of a factor in the scoring brigade in recent weeks. The goal Monday was his first in 15 games, and he's collected a total of just six points during that span.
