Preds' Cullen Scores First Of Season

News: Matt Cullen finally scored his first goal of the season Thursday, the game-winning tally in the third period of a 3-2 win over the Stars.
Analysis: Matt Cullen's been surprisingly productive since returning from the lower-body injury that held him out for the start of the year, providing Thursday's goal and three assists in his first five games. Cullen's not going to maintain 0.8 points per game, but if he keeps seeing power-play time, he could get back to the 40-point mark for the first time since 2009-10.

Preds' Cullen Playing Point Man For Power Play

News: Matt Cullen is currently seeing time on the blue line for the Predators' power play, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Matt Cullen has registered an assist in each of his three games since missing the first eight games of the season with a lower body injury, and not surprisingly, two of those three helpers have come on the power play where he is now lining up on the first unit alongside James Neal, Mike Ribeiro, Filip Forsberg and Roman Josi. Given his elevated status in the Preds' lineup, Cullen represents very good fantasy bang for the buck right now. Jump on him quick and enjoy the hot streak while it lasts.

Preds' Cullen To Debut On Scoring Line

News: Matt Cullen (lower body) will skate on a line with Craig Smith and Derek Roy in Wednesday's game against the Oilers, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Matt Cullen and Smith have some history together, as the two played on the same line for a stretch at the start of last season. If Cullen can stick on a scoring line, it would certainly provide his fantasy value a much-needed boost. Cullen scored 39 points in 77 games with the Preds last season, and has an outside shot at 40 points this season if all goes well.

Predators' Cullen Ready To Play

News: Matt Cullen (lower body) was activated from injured reserve for Wednesday's game against the Oilers.
Analysis: Matt Cullen took part in Monday's practice and is set to appear in a game for the first time since suffering an upper body injury Sept. 24. It's not exactly clear what line he will skate on Wednesday, but he should have a spot somewhere in the lineup.

Preds' Cullen Not Expected To Return Tuesday

News: Matt Cullen (lower body) isn't expected to return Tuesday against the Coyotes, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Matt Cullen resumed practicing last week and is being labeled as day-to-day by the Predators at this stage, but he wasn't a part of the team's line rushes at Tuesday's morning skate, signaling that he won't be making his return. He could be ready to go in time for the Preds' next game, scheduled for Thursday versus the Blackhawks.

Preds' Cullen Nearing Return

News: Matt Cullen (lower body) took part in practice Tuesday and is now considered day-to-day, according to the Predators' official website.
Analysis: At this point, it's not known whether Matt Cullen will accompany the team on its two-game road trip this weekend to Winnipeg (Friday) and Chicago (Saturday). Assuming Cullen doesn't suit up for either of those games, look for a possible return next Tuesday when the Preds open a three-game homestand against the Coyotes.

Preds Place Cullen (Lower Body) On Injured Reserve

News: Matt Cullen (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, according to the Predators' official website.
Analysis: It's unclear at this point just how serious Matt Cullen's injury is or when he will return; however, he must remain on IR for at least seven days. This means the earliest he could come back would be Oct. 14 against Calgary. Either way, it's best to keep him on your fantasy bench for the upcoming week.

Preds' Cullen (Lower Body) Resumes Skating

News: Matt Cullen (lower body) is skating outside of team practices, according to the Tennessean.
Analysis: Despite Matt Cullen's injury - which doesn't sound overly serious - his role on the team is somewhat in question this season after the Preds went out and picked up Mike Ribeiro, Derek Roy and Olli Jokinen in the offseason, moves that strengthen them considerably down the middle. Realistically speaking, Cullen is likely looking at a third-line role by the time he returns.

Preds' Cullen Nursing Lower-Body Injury

News: Matt Cullen is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: The Predators don't seem worried about the veteran forward's chances of missing any action when the regular season commences, but he could be held out of a few exhibitions as a result of the ailment. He'll look to build on his huge finish to the 2013-14 season, with a top-six role likely waiting for him at the start of the campaign.

Preds' Cullen Dishes Out Three In Victory

News: Matt Cullen collected three assists in Friday's win over the Ducks.
Analysis: After laying dormant for most of the first six months of the season, Matt Cullen has come alive in the last couple weeks. He's now contributed three goals and eight assists over his last seven games.

Preds' Cullen Scores Two

News: Matt Cullen scored a pair of goals in Tuesday's shootout loss to the Avs.
Analysis: He's on quite a little run over the last three games, with three goals, three assists, a plus-4 rating and two PIM. However, production like this has been the exception, not the rule for Matt Cullen -- he'd collected all of one point in the prior 10 games.

Preds' Cullen Enjoys Four-Point Night Friday

News: Matt Cullen scored a goal and assisted on three more during the Predators' 6-5 win over the Flames on Friday.
Analysis: With just 28 points in 66 games, the 37-year-old Matt Cullen is not noted for his scoring touch anymore. But he was all over the ice in this one and, obviously, a big part of the Predators' win. The goal was just his seventh of the season and first in 11 games, so don't expect many nights like this for him moving forward.

Preds' Cullen Will Play Tuesday

News: Matt Cullen (lower body) is listed in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Penguins.
Analysis: Matt Cullen was present during the Preds' morning skate and felt no ill effects while warming up, allowing coach Barry Trotz to feel comfortable using him Tuesday.

Preds' Cullen Dealing With Lower-Body Injury

News: Matt Cullen, who is dealing with a lower-body injury, was present for Tuesday's morning skate, John Glennon of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Glennon also suggests that Matt Cullen is available for Tuesday's game against the Penguins, but we'll let you know if that assessment changes prior to game time.

Predators' Cullen Lights The Lamp Thursday

News: Matt Cullen (upper body) scored a goal and recorded 15:49 TOI in Thursday's victory over the Lightning.
Analysis: Matt Cullen missed the Predators' final game before the Olympic break due to the injury, but he was able to return to action after the lengthy rest period. Cullen has tallied six goals and 17 assists in 55 games with the Predators this season.

Preds' Cullen Out Saturday

News: Matt Cullen (upper body) is out for Saturday's game against the Ducks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: After returning from his injury Thursday, Matt Cullen was considered doubtful for Saturday's game. He may have suffered a setback, but the Olympic break will likely provide him with enough time to get healthy.

Preds' Cullen Unlikely To Play Saturday

News: Matt Cullen (upper body) is doubtful to play Saturday against the Ducks, Josh Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: The Predators haven't suggested that Matt Cullen hit a setback when he returned to the ice Thursday against the Wild following a two-week absence, but that could very well be the case after he logged just 7:36 of ice time in the game. Look for the Predators to call up another forward from AHL Milwaukee before Saturday's game to give Cullen the full Olympic break to recover.

Preds' Cullen Returns Thursday

News: Matt Cullen (upper body) returned to the ice in Thursday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: Matt Cullen totaled 7:36 of ice time in Thursday's game and saw action in the faceoff circle and on the Predators' penalty-kill unit. He will likely see increased time as he progresses coming off the injury.

Predators' Cullen Could Return Thursday

News: Coach Barry Trotz is optimistic that Matt Cullen (upper body) will be ready to return Thursday against the Wild, John Glennon of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Matt Cullen has a modest total of 22 points in 53 contests overall, but in the most recent two games that he played in before being sidelined, he racked up three helpers.

Preds' Cullen Questionable For Tuesday

News: Matt Cullen (upper body) is listed as questionable for Tuesday's game against the Jets, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Matt Cullen missed morning skate but has not yet been ruled out for Tuesday, unlike teammate Viktor Stalberg (upper body). That said, Cullen appears iffy, at best, to return against Winnipeg after sitting Sunday with the ailment.

Preds' Cullen Misses Morning Skate

News: Matt Cullen (upper body) did not take part in Tuesday's morning skate, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Nothing's official, but it seems Matt Cullen is in danger of sitting again Tuesday with the upper-body injury. The 37-year-old has chipped in five assists in 13 January games to this point.

Preds' Cullen Sits Sunday

News: Matt Cullen (upper body) will not play Sunday against the Oilers, Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Matt Cullen has a modest total of 22 points in 53 games overall, but heading into Sunday, he had notched three helpers in his last two contests.

Preds' Cullen Not Meeting Expectations

News: Matt Cullen ended a three-game pointless drought by grabbing an assist during Monday's 6-4 win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: With just 17 points in 40 games, Matt Cullen's production is down noticeably from last season, when he scored 27 points in 42 games with Minnesota. After signing him as a free agent during the offseason, the Preds were looking for Cullen to step in and challenge David Legwand for the No. 2 center position on the roster, but so far, he has not lived up to expectations.  For a guy who regularly sees upward of 15-16 minutes of ice time per night, he needs to produce more.  Feel free to bench him in favor of a more reliable fantasy option if you have one.

Cullen Failing To Contribute For Preds

News: Matt Cullen skated a season-low 11:53 during Thursday's 3-1 win over Dallas. Except for a single shot on goal, Cullen rang up zeros across the board in every other stat category, including goals, assists, hits and PIM.
Analysis: After registering nine points in six games during the second half of November, Matt Cullen is now enduring a seven-game pointless streak, which is surely resulting in his declining ice time. He's currently anchoring the Preds' third line in between Colin Wilson and Gabriel Bourque, presenting him limited opportunity to contribute offensively. If you're looking for reasons to put him in your fantasy lineup, you won't find many right now. Avoid.

Preds' Cullen Adds Goal, Assist In Win

News: Matt Cullen notched a goal and an assist Wednesday.
Analysis: Matt Cullen notched the game-winner Wednesday, and now has seven points in his last four games. The veteran winger has never been a high-volume scorer in his career, so it might be wise to trade him now while he's hot.
