Sharks' Thornton Gets PP Tally In Loss

News: Joe Thornton notched a power-play goal in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Sharks.
Analysis: The 35-year-old relationship with GM Doug Wilson may be frayed, but he's still managed to put together yet another productive season, even if it's not quite as fabulous as a year earlier. He's rebounded from a seven-game pointless skid with goals in back-to-back contests, giving him 16 on the season and 64 points overall.

Two More Assists For Sharks' Thornton

News: Joe Thornton turned in his second consecutive two-assist game Thursday in a win over the Leafs.
Analysis: He also took four shots on goal -- the first time he's put that many pucks on net since Dec. 22. As usual, Thorny just keeps piling the assists -- with 48 of 'em, he's just one short of Jakub Voracek and Sidney Crosby, who are tied for second in the NHL.

Sharks' Thornton Hits 60 Points

News: Joe Thornton reached the 60-point mark Tuesday by dishing out assists on both San Jose goals in a 5-2 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: He also went plus-1, pushing his rating back to a nice, even zero on the year. Thorny will have to finish at nearly a point-per-game pace to hit 70 points for the 12th time in his career, but he's been on the sheet consistently of late -- eight points in his last seven games -- so that's hardly unrealistic.

Sharks' Thornton Picks Up Two Points In Loss

News: Joe Thornton scored his 13th goal of the season and had an assist in Saturday's loss to Vancouver.
Analysis: That's six points in five games for Joe Thornton, who now has 44 assists and 57 points in 62 games on the season. He's already got more goals than he had last season and is on pace for another 70-point campaign. You know what to do.

Two Cheap Points For Sharks' Thornton

News: Joe Thornton assisted on two empty-net goals, finished plus-3 and gathered four PIM in Tuesday's win over Vancouver.
Analysis: Well, that's about as cheap as multi-point games come. But hey, it all counts the same on the back of your baseball -- er, hockey -- card. Thorny remains one of the NHL's finest playmakers.

Sharks' Thornton Picks Up Assist

News: Joe Thornton collected an assist Monday, helping the Sharks to a 4-0 win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Joe Thornton currently ranks fifth in NHL in assists with 41, so he can clearly still keep up offensively. The veteran has 16 years of NHL experience and is still averaging 20:05 on the ice at 35 years old. He's a steady fantasy option.

Sharks' Thornton An Ace Setup Man In Win

News: Joe Thornton set up all three of Joe Pavelski's goals in Friday's 4-2 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: It's the second assist trick of the month for Joe Thornton, who previously achieved the feat in a shootout loss to the Oilers on Feb. 2. Since returning from a shoulder injury Jan. 10, Thornton hasn't struggled to get back on track. He's accumulated three goals and 14 assists over his last 15 games.

Sharks' Thornton Delivers Two Points In OT Loss

News: Joe Thornton contributed a goal and assist in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Capitals.
Analysis: After helping out on the Sharks' first goal of the night, Joe Thornton found the net himself for the tying tally with five and a half minutes remaining in the third period. With his 12th goal of the season, Thornton surpassed his total in that category from all of 2013-14, requiring 30 fewer games to achieve the mark. The goal also aided Thornton's ongoing climb up the NHL's all-time scoring list, as he now sits in 36th place with 1,240 career points.

Trio Of Assists For Sharks' Thornton

News: Joe Thornton dished out three assists in Monday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Oilers.
Analysis: Jumbo Joe has been red hot lately, racking up 10 points in he last six games, bringing his total to an impressive 44 in 47 games this year. The veteran still hardly puts the puck on net (85 shots on the year), but owners can't complain, as his 33 assists are sixth in the NHL.

Sharks' Thornton Stays Hot With Two More Points

News: Joe Thornton assisted on Melker Karlsson's game-winning goal and potted an empty-net goal in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: The 35-year-old now has back-to-back two-point outings and has pointed in five straight games. A bothersome shoulder injury forced the ironman to sit out four games in January, but he hit his stride as the month came to a close. The goal was his 11th of the season, matching his total from the 2013-14 campaign in 36 fewer games.

Sharks' Thornton On Four-Game Streak

News: Joe Thornton rattled off two more helpers (one on the power play) in Thursday's win over the Ducks, pushing his point streak to four games.
Analysis: Thorny may be turning 36 this year, but he still isn't showing his age. His assist rate is down a tick from last year, but he's still on pace to clear 60 points easily and approach 70.

Sharks' Thornton On Three-Game Point Streak

News: Joe Thornton had an assist and a pair of shots in Wednesday's win over the Kings.
Analysis: That puts Joe Thornton on a three-game point streak entering the All-Star break. He's a ways from his torrid 65-assist pace from last season, but in just 44 games, he's one goal shy of last season's total of 11. You're getting more goals than you expected from Thornton, but not hitting the total points high you got from him last year.

Sharks' Thornton Adds Assist Monday

News: Joe Thornton picked up an assist in Monday's loss to the Devils.
Analysis: Since returning from a shoulder injury Jan. 10, Joe Thornton has tallied a goal, two assists and a minus-5 rating over five games. That level of production isn't on par with what he was delivering prior to suffering the injury, but he's still a productive enough center to warrant lineup inclusion in just about any format.

Sharks' Thornton Goes Minus-3 In Return

News: Joe Thornton (shoulder) went minus-3 and attempted one shot across 17:40 of ice time in Saturday's loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: A fixture in the press box the last four games due to the shoulder injury, Joe Thornton didn't exactly lift the Sharks' attack upon returning Saturday. It may take him a couple games to settle in, but the team would obviously rather have a player of Thornton's caliber in their lineup -- even if he remains a bit rusty.

Sharks' Thornton (Shoulder) Confirmed To Play

News: Joe Thornton (shoulder) confirmed he will be activated from injured reserve and will play Saturday against the Rangers, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: The veteran's left shoulder presented no issues during his morning skate session with his teammates, allowing him to draw back in after missing the previous four games. He'll skate alongside Patrick Marleau and Matthew Nieto on Saturday, but once rookie Melker Karlsson begins to slow down, look for Joe Thornton to rejoin Joe Pavelski on the top line.

Sharks' Thornton (Shoulder) Could Play Saturday

News: Joe Thornton (shoulder) was on the ice for morning skate and could be a lineup option for Saturday's game against the Rangers, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Joe Thornton centered a line with Patrick Marleau and Matt Nieto during morning skate, an indication he's ready to return after a four-game absence. Since he's still listed on the Sharks' injured reserve list, his availability remains a question mark for now, but fantasy owners will surely want to keep tabs on his status throughout the day.

Sharks' Thornton (Shoulder) Sitting Out Thursday

News: Joe Thornton (shoulder) will not be available for Thursday's game against the Blues, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Though he'll sit out a fourth straight game, Joe Thornton has resumed skating and was optimistic about his chances of playing Saturday, when the Sharks will host the Rangers. The 35-year-old didn't experience much healing in his first few days after injuring the shoulder in a Dec. 31 collision with the Ducks' Clayton Stoner, but does feel that he's experienced progress more recently. With a positive practice session Friday, Thornton could receive the green light to resume playing.

Sharks' Thornton Skates Tuesday

News: Joe Thornton (shoulder) skated Tuesday morning, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Joe Thornton had been off the ice since last Friday while tending to the shoulder injury, but because Tuesday's session wasn't a full practice, it's difficult to discern whether or not he'll be ready to go for Thursday's game against the Flyers. The Sharks should have a better idea of his condition by Wednesday or Thursday morning.

Sharks Place Thornton (Shoulder) On IR

News: Joe Thornton (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve Sunday, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Joe Thornton was already listed as doubtful for Monday's game, but he will need to miss both Monday and Tuesday as a result of the move. The team will likely add someone from the AHL to fill his roster spot while he sits. He will next be eligible to return Thursday against the Flyers.

Sharks' Thornton (Shoulder) Doubtful For Monday

News: Joe Thornton (shoulder) is doubtful for Monday's game against the Jets, but is expected to play at some point during the Sharks' road trip, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Joe Thornton left Wednesday's game against the Ducks midway through the first period and didn't return. He was expected to return Saturday, but it looks as though the injury will cost him a minimum of two games. His next chance to return to the lineup will come Tuesday against the Wild.

Sharks' Thornton (Shoulder) Ruled Out Saturday

News: Joe Thornton (shoulder) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Blues, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Considered probable to play heading into the day, Joe Thornton was unable to skate Saturday morning and quickly ruled out by coach Todd McLellan. It will spell an end to the iron man's streak of 319 consecutive games played, an attribute that made him one of the more trusty fantasy forwards despite a dive in his goal totals in recent seasons. It seems the Sharks are viewing Thornton day-to-day at this time, so there's hope that his absence will only span one game. Joe Pavelski is slated to center the top line in Thornton's absence, while Matt Nieto slides up to fill Pavelski's usual spot on the wing.

Sharks' Thornton (Shoulder) Absent From Skate

News: Joe Thornton (shoulder) was absent from the Sharks' gameday skate, putting his status in question for Saturday's game against the Blues, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: After he was able to get in a full practice Friday, Joe Thornton was considered probable to play Saturday, but the Sharks may be rethinking that after keeping him off the ice during the morning session. It's possible that Thornton just took his option to rest until the evening, but it certainly doesn't erase concerns fantasy owners might have had about his availability. Expect an official verdict on his status during pregame warmups, but because the Sharks are the last game on the schedule Saturday, it may be tough to count on him in daily formats. If Thornton ends up sitting Saturday, his streak of 319 consecutive games played will come to an end.

Sharks' Thornton (Shoulder) Probable For Saturday

News: Coach Todd McLellan said Friday that Joe Thornton (shoulder) is probable to play in Saturday's game against the Blues, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: A collision with the Ducks' Clayton Stoner forced Joe Thornton out of Wednesday's game with an apparent shoulder injury, but the veteran center was back at practice two days later to alleviate any concerns. McLellan said that Thornton felt even better than the Sharks had anticipated Friday, allowing him to be bullish about his availability for Saturday's game. Thornton has not missed a game due to injury since the 2009-10 season.

Sharks' Thornton Doesn't Return After Shoulder Hit

News: Joe Thornton left Wednesday's game midway through the first period after suffering an undisclosed injury, reports the Associated Press.
Analysis: He collided with Ducks' defender Clayton Stoner on what seemed like an innocent, shoulder-to-shoulder contact; he left holding his left shoulder. He has played every game for the Sharks this season and the previous three seasons, too. Any absence would be uncharacteristic for the ironman.

Thornton Lone Man In For Sharks Tuesday

News: Joe Thornton was the only Shark to beat the Canucks' Ryan Miller on Tuesday, scoring his ninth goal of the year on a penalty shot in a 3-1 loss.
Analysis: Thorny was taken down on a breakaway, and he moved to 2-for-2 on penalty shots for his career by surprising Miller with a quick wrist release. His surprising scoring touch continues, as the veteran dishmaster remains on track to clear 20 goals for the first time since 2010-11.
