Oilers' Ference Avoids Serious Injury

News: Despite leaving Sunday's game with an arm injury, Andrew Ference should be fine going forward, according to Oilers play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels.
Analysis: Andrew Ference injured his arm blocking a shot, but it does not appear he will miss much time, if any, so he will likely be good to go for the Oilers' season opener.

Oilers' Ference Leaves With Arm Injury

Season Likely Over For Oilers' Ference

News: Andrew Ference (chest) is likely out for the season due to his torn pectoral muscle, the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: The injury comes at an awful time for Andrew Ference, who'd been having a bad year, but had just started to find his offensive game, gathering six points in his last nine contests. He should be fine for next year, though fantasy owners shouldn't expect a sudden scoring outburst from him at age 35.

Edmonton's Ference Out Sunday

News: Andrew Ference will not play Sunday versus New York, TSN reports.
Analysis: Andrew Ference has reportedly been playing hurt, but still managed to net the game-winning goal Saturday night. With Sunday off, the defenseman could make his return to the lineup on Tuesday against the Sharks.

Oilers' Ference Scores OT Game-Winner Friday

News: Andrew Ference scored his third goal of the season and gave the Oilers a 4-3 overtime win over the Ducks on Friday.
Analysis: The Oilers' captain couldn't have found a better time to light the lamp than he did at the 3:51 mark of overtime. The blue-liner is more known for his grit, tenacity and stay-at-home style, as evidenced by his 18 points in 71 games, but every once in a while he finds a great time to put his stamp on the stat sheet.

Rare Points For Oilers' Ference

News: Andrew Ference recorded two assists in Tuesday's win over Minnesota.
Analysis: His second multi-point game of the year, this performance boosted Andrew Ference to all of 14 points on the season. Unless your league counts hits and blocks, there's not a lot to see here.

Oilers' Ference Struggles In Homecoming

News: Andrew Ference (head) saw 19:57 of ice time in his return to the lineup in Saturday's loss against the Bruins.
Analysis: In his first game in Boston since leaving as a free agent in the offseason, Andrew Ference was given a nice video tribute before the contest, but that would be the lone highlight of the night. He was on the ice for all four goals given up by the Oilers, and as usual, wasn't much of a factor offensively.

Oilers' Ference Expected To Play Saturday

News: Andrew Ference (head) was cleared to play and is expected to be on the ice against the Bruins on Saturday, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Andrew Ference originally left a game on January 24 and hasn't played since. He's gone through the NHL's concussion protocol and seems ready to play. It appears safe to get him back into your lineup, though it might be wise just to see how he does against the Bruins first.

Oilers' Ference Out For Wednesday

News: Andrew Ference (head) will not play against the Sharks on Wednesday, Arpon Basu of LNH.com reports.
Analysis: Andrew Ference's head injury seems more and more like a concussion the longer he sits out, and the blueliner will miss his third straight game Wednesday. Ference has posted two goals and eight assists in 53 games thus far for the Oilers.

Oilers' Ference Out Sunday

News: Andrew Ference (head) won't play Sunday versus Nashville, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: The Oilers aren't calling this injury a concussion, but Andrew Ference is still being evaluated. This will be the first game he's missed all season, and the loss will be felt by the Oilers, as Ference usually plays against the opposing team's top line.

Oilers' Ference Suffers Head Injury Friday

News: Andrew Ference suffered a head injury and left Friday's game in the second period, Derek Van Diest of the Edmonton Sun reports.
Analysis: There was no word on how exactly he suffered the injury, but he will not return to the game. The team will update his condition, but consider him day-to-day for now.

Oilers' Ference A Non-Factor Offensively Thus Far

News: Andrew Ference has just one point and a minus-8 rating in 20 games this season.
Analysis: Signed to a four-year contract by the Oilers in the offseason, Andrew Ference was expected to shore up the Oilers' leaky defense rather than contribute much offensively, but he's been disappointing in both fronts. While a large portion of the Oilers' defensive failures can be pinned on their goalies, it's safe to say that the Oilers didn't expect to find themselves as the bottom of the Pacific Division standings a quarter of the way through the season after giving Ference a $13 million deal. With no sign of the Oilers' goaltending situation improving anytime soon, Ference won't provide enough offense to compensate for his horrendous plus-minus figure.

Ference Joins Oilers

News: Andrew Ference signed a four-year, $13 million contract with Edmonton on Friday, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.
Analysis: Andrew Ference had parted ways with Boston shortly after their defeat in the Stanley Cup final and the 34-year old blue liner becomes the elder statesman on an Edmonton team in need of a veteran presence on the blue line. Odds are Ference won't have much of an offensive impact, but he'll be one of the few Oilers with playoff experience, albeit a Cup ring.

Bruins Won't Retain Ference

News: GM Peter Chiarelli has confirmed that Andrew Ference is not returning to the Bruins, Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: With young blueliners Torey Krug, Matt Bartkowski and Dougie Hamilton all ready to see expanded roles with the team next season, the Bruins should be able to absorb the loss of Andrew Ference just fine. He'll have no problem catching on with another team though, giving his strong ability in the transition game.

Bruins' Ference Unlikely To Return To Team

News: Andrew Ference doesn't expect to be back with the Bruins next year, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Andrew Ference, who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent, may not have been a big fantasy factor (13 points in 48 games this past season), but his steady blue line presence and ability in the transition game were assets to the Bruins since he joined the team in 2007. It now looks like he's the odd man out, with younger, cheaper options (Torey Krug, Matt Bartkowski and Dougie Hamilton) on hand and ready to assume larger roles with the team.

Bruins' Ference Out There For Monday's Skate

News: Andrew Ference (foot) was paired with Johnny Boychuk during Monday's morning skate.
Analysis: Andrew Ference continues to sport a protective boot on his injured foot off the ice, but barring a setback, the veteran blueliner looks poised to continue to play through the issue. As a result, Matt Bartkowski is in line to remain a healthy scratch for Monday night's Game 2 against the Penguins.

Bruins' Ference Donning Walking Boot Monday

News: Andrew Ference was seen donning a walking boot Monday morning, leaving his status up in the air for Game 2 in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Andrew Ference played Saturday for the first time since May 10 and made an immediate mark, recording an assist in 17:27 of ice time. If he is unable to suit up, Matt Bartkowski and Torey Krug are poised to pick up the slack on the Bruins' back end.

Bruins' Ference Nears Return

News: Andrew Ference, who is dealing with what is believed to be a foot injury, practiced fully Tuesday, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Given that he practiced without any apparent restrictions, it looks like like the veteran blueliner should be available for Saturday's Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Penguins. That said, it remains to be seen if he will in fact suit up then, given how well youngsters Matt Bartkowski and Torey Krug have been filling in on the B's blue line of late.

Bruins' Ference Practices

News: Andrew Ference (lower body) practiced with the team Tuesday.
Analysis: Andrew Ference skated with teammates for the first time since suffering a lower-body injury in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against Toronto. Once he's healthy enough to return, it remains to be seen whether Ference will be reinserted into the lineup. His replacement, Matt Bartkowski, has played well, and the Bruins could go with what's been working.

Bruins' Ference Progresses

News: Andrew Ference has skated for a few days, as he continues to progress from a lower-body injury.
Analysis: Once Andrew Ference is ready to play, the Bruins will be forced to decide whether to re-insert the veteran back into the lineup, or stick with Matt Bartkowski, who has been filling in capably in Ference's absence.
