News:Patrick Marleau assisted on both San Jose goals as the Sharks edged the Kings 2-1 in Saturday's Game 3 of the teams' second-round series.
Analysis: He has a 5-3-8 ledger after seven playoff games, with half of those points coming on San Jose power plays. There's no sign that this productivity will abate.
News:Patrick Marleau scored and played a huge 21:18 for the Sharks on Thursday.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau is at six points in six games. Though it took over four periods to get a goal, the Sharks seem to have found a way to get pucks past Kings netminder Jonathan Quick and that bodes well for Marleau as the Sharks head to San Jose for the next two games.
News:Patrick Marleau scored his fourth goal in as many playoff games at 13:18 into Tuesday's overtime period, sending the Sharks to a four-game sweep over Vancouver. He also added an assist.

Analysis: A nice game for Patrick Marleau, snapping a four-game scoreless streak, but he's still having a rough year overall. Take away the insane 14 points he totaled in the first six games this season, and he has just 13 points in 34 contests. Yikes.
News:Patrick Marleau had an assist Monday against Vancouver.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau has been streaky this year. He had a six-game point drought, followed by a five-game point streak, followed by a three-game drought. News:Patrick Marleau made his fourth straight score sheet in Saturday's game at Los Angeles with a second-period goal, his 14th of the season.
Analysis: The current points string is his way of digging out from the six-game scoreless streak that preceded it. Patrick Marleau is still the Sharks' best sniper, and he'll bank plenty of points while Joe Thornton is centering his line.
News:Patrick Marleau scored his sixth power-play goal of the campaign, and his 12th tally overall, in Saturday's 3-1 loss at Dallas.
Analysis: All those goals are great, but it probably won't last; he's firing with a 21.4% success rate, something he's never sustained before. He's still a near-automatic start recommendation (depending on your league's format, of course), but don't let all those tallies cloud your perception of his value over the rest of the season.
News:Patrick Marleau scored San Jose's only goal in Friday's loss to Chicago, giving him a point in each of the last two games.
Analysis: Following his blistering start, Patrick Marleau disappeared for almost two weeks before getting back to producing this past week. The Sharks have not been playing great hockey of late, especially on the offensive end. Once that gets figured out, expect Marleau and his teammates to find their stride offensively.
News:Patrick Marleau scored his 10th goal of the season against the Blue Jackets on Monday.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau got off to a hot start before cooling down, as this is his first point in his last five games. However, he still has 15 points in 12 games, and will likely find his performance level at a happy medium at some point.
News:Patrick Marleau scored a power-play goal, his ninth goal of the season, and added an assist against the Canucks on Sunday.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau has been as hot as any player in the league to start this season, which has to make fantasy owners quite happy, especially if they are able to sell high, because at some point Marleau's pace is pretty much guaranteed to slow down.
News:Patrick Marleau's hot hand continued Saturday against Colorado. He scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist. He now has scored two goals in each of the four games he's played this season and has 11 points overall.

Analysis:Patrick Marleau has been off to a hot start scoring six goals in the first three games and two assists leaving him leading the league in goal scoring early in the season. Playing with familiar linemates in Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton has paid dividends in this lockout shortened season as one of them has assisted on all of his goals. He's also off to a hot start on the power play with four points (2G, 2A) as the Sharks are converting on over half of their opportunities.
News:Patrick Marleau delivered two goals and an assist in Tuesday's win over the Oilers, giving him five points in the first two games this year.
Analysis: You can't ask for better results to start the year than a pair of two-goal games. Patrick Marleau's going to have an uphill climb if he wants to extend his streak of 30-goal seasons to five in this shortened year, but he's certainly off to a fine start in that category.
News:Patrick Marleau scored two goals, including a power-play tally, against the Flames on Sunday.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau's numbers were a bit down last season, and he's getting up there in years, but he still scored 30 goals last year and got off to a nice start in the opener.
News:Patrick Marleau will skate on the top line for Opening Night, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau will be skating with familiar linemates in Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski. His numbers have gone down each of the past three seasons even though he's been able to stay healthy and play all 82 games. Expect him to produce on the power play regardless as those numbers have remained steady over that time period as this group is one of the better units.
News:Patrick Marleau skated on the second line with Martin Havlat and Ryan Clowe during Wednesday's practice, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Apparently Logan Couture skated with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski on the first line, taking Patrick Marleau's place. Couture has three points through the first three games of the series, while Marleau still has not gotten on the scoresheet. It seems likely that the Sharks will go with these lines during Game 4 on Thursday. If so, Marleau will miss playing with Thornton, who assisted on all three goals during Monday's 4-3 loss.
News:Patrick Marleau extended his modest points streak to three games Thursday with his 29th goal and an assist in a shootout win over Los Angeles.
Analysis: He'd gone pointless for three straight before that, so Patrick Marleau remains as streaky as ever. With one game left in the season, he's got a shot to reach 30 goals for the sixth time in his career (and the fourth straight season).
News:Patrick Marleau lit the lamp and finished the night plus-2 in San Jose's narrow win over Phoenix on Saturday night.
Analysis: His next point will bring him to the 60-point plateau for the sixth time in his career. He's taken a bit of a statistical hit with the dissolution of last year's first line (pairing him with Joe Thornton and the since-traded Dany Heatley), but in this era it's tough to ignore a guy who regularly hangs 60.
News:Patrick Marleau reached the 50-point mark for the ninth time in his career, collecting a goal and an assist in Saturday's loss at Nashville.
Analysis: This isn't going to be one of his glory years of 80+ points, but he's still a steady scorer, especially since he's paired with Joe Thornton.

Analysis:Patrick Marleau has not been as productive as his teammates during the team's Eastern road trip, but Marleau does have three goals over the last four games with four points over the last six. You know what you're going to get with Marleau and his floor is fine with most owners.
News:Patrick Marleau scored twice in Monday's 5-3 win over Washington, snapping a three-game goal drought.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau is heating up with eight points over the last seven games. San Jose has a rather balanced attack and Marleau will get in on the fun most nights, despite his overall points, 44, being a little down from what owners may expect from the veteran.
News:Patrick Marleau scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's loss to the Coyotes.

News:Patrick Marleau scored in the second period of San Jose's win over Vancouver on Monday night.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau has now had five points in his last five games. Given his early season struggles it's a good sign to see him producing points again.
News:Patrick Marleau bagged a point for the third straight game, scoring the game-winner against Edmonton on Saturday.
Analysis: Considering his previous extended scoring drought, this is welcome news indeed. Three games do not a trend make, but we'll take this as a sign that he may be turning things around.
Sharks' Marleau Breaks Scoreless Skid With Big Goal
News: With 22 seconds remaining in the third period, the San Jose net empty and the Sharks trailing the Avs by one Tuesday, Patrick Marleau broke his seven-game scoreless streak with a goal that sent the game to overtime.
Analysis: The Sharks went on to lose in the shootout, but at least Patrick Marleau got them a point. He picked a good time to end the skid, but the Sharks need Marleau to be more consistent on the offensive end. He tends to score points in flurries, then enter prolonged slumps. Marleau's scoring is valuable to the Sharks, who tend to slump along with him -- they won just twice in his seven-game skid.
News:Patrick Marleau had two shots on goal in the Sharks' 1-0 loss at St. Louis on Saturday.
Analysis: Two weeks ago, we reported that he was on his way to another 70-point campaign; but he's taken six straight collars since then, and is 0-for-December in scoring of any kind. With 20 points (10G, 10A) in 26 games, he'll need to pick up the pace in order to threaten that 70-point benchmark.
News:Patrick Marleau has been shifted to playing with the Sharks' third line, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Coach Todd McLellan commented that "Patty can make that Handzus-McGinn line very effective with his speed." This doesn't appear to be a demotion for Patrick Marleau as it's one of multiple line changes for the Sharks who are trying to break out of a slump.
News:Patrick Marleau's 10th goal of the campaign wasn't enough as the Canucks beat the Sharks in San Jose on Saturday, 3-2.
Analysis: With the exception of his laying a 48-point egg in the 2007-08 campaign, he's been a solid bet for 70-plus points every year, and he's well on his way to that mark again, with 20 points in 20 games thus far.
News:Patrick Marleau found the back of the net three times for the hat trick Sunday against Colorado. He also picked up the game-winning goal.

News:Patrick Marleau set up two power-play goals in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Stars.
Analysis: He's starting to piece together more consistency after a sluggish start. His 16 points in 17 games put him third on the Sharks in scoring. Roll him with confidence.
News:Patrick Marleau scored twice on second-period power plays in Thursday's win over Minnesota.
Analysis: After a slow start to the year in which he endured a four-game pointless streak, Patrick Marleau has piled up 12 points (six goals, six assists) in his last nine games. These were the first two power-play goals of the year for Marleau, who's been in double digits in that category five of the last six years.

News:Patrick Marleau (illness) received just over 21 minutes of ice time in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Blues.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau failed to produce any points and was minus-1 for the game, but that's a good amount of ice time for a player who had been under the weather since last Monday. He should be safe to activate in all fantasy leagues.
News: San Jose head coach Todd McLellan expects Patrick Marleau (illness) to be available to skate on the first line, the San Jose Mercury News reports. He's been suffering from an illness since Monday.
Analysis: "I feel better, but the weakness is still there," Patrick Marleau said. While McLellan didn't explicitly say Marleau would be available Friday against Anaheim, expect him to join teammates Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton on San Jose's top line and power play units.
News:Patrick Marleau (illness) was back skating Thursday, albeit at less than 100 percent, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau had a strong season debut last Saturday, with two assists against the visiting Coyotes. The Sharks face the Ducks on Friday and the Blues one day later, so there is still time for him to return to full strength and make an impact in this weekly scoring period.
News: Sharks head coach Todd McLellan said that Patrick Marleau (illness) is expected to play this weekend, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

News:Patrick Marleau assisted on both of linemate Joe Pavelski's power-play goals in Saturday's win over Phoenix.
Analysis: We hardly need to assure you of Patrick Marleau's offensive upside. You should start him liberally in most fantasy formats.
Less Time On The Penalty Kill For Sharks' Marleau?
News: Sharks coach Todd McLellan could spare Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton some responsibility on the penalty kill in exchange for extra minutes in offensive situations, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis:Patrick Marleau averaged close to two minutes of shorthanded ice time per game in 2010-11, and still ended up being the points leader for a team that saw seven skaters finish with at least 50 combined goals and assists. Marleau could be relied upon even more now that Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi are in Minnesota, so don't expect the former to be overlooked in most fantasy drafts.
News: Marleau had four goals and three assists against the Canucks in the Western Conference finals.
Analysis: Marleau caught fire and never looked back after his game-winning goal against the Red Wings in Game 7, which helped the Sharks move to the conference finals. Of course, the enigmatic winger had a lot to prove after being held pointless in the first six games of the semifinal round. Still, Marleau completing the 2010-11 season on a six-game point streak should keep his name high on fantasy cheat sheets next year.
News: Marleau had two goals and an assist in San Jose's 4-3 win over Vancouver on Friday night.
Analysis: It was his fourth straight game with at least one goal. After a slow start in the playoffs, Marleau is heating up at the right time.
News: Marleau earned a goal on the man advantage Sunday, but the Sharks lost Game 1 to the Canucks by a score of 3-2.
Analysis: Marleau was virtually non-existent in the semifinal series against the Red Wings, though he saved face by tacking on the game-winner in Game 7. It's good to see him make an immediate impact as the Sharks will be counting on his puck-work to stay competitive in the Western Conference finals.
News: Marleau, held without a point for the entire series with the Red Wings, put home Devin Setoguchi's rebound in the third period for what ended up being the series-winning goal in Thursday's Game 7 win over Detroit.
Analysis: Dan Boyle set the play up with a beautiful pass and Devin Setoguchi put the puck on goal, but it was the much-maligned Marleau who put it home. He may not admit it, but you'd better bet he's breathing easier tonight. The goal wasn't Marleau's only contribution, as he was noticeable on the ice all night and tied for the team high in shots (five) with Setoguchi. His play made Jeremy Roenick, who had called him gutless earlier in the week, eat his words.
News: Marleau has yet to record a point in the semifinal playoff series against the Red Wings, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Nothing is falling for Marleau, as the veteran forward has not been able to light the lamp in 12 shot attempts against Detroit in the second round. Luckily for Marleau, the Sharks have a 3-1 series lead heading into Sunday's Game 5.
News: Marleau centered Ryane Clowe and Dany Heatley in Tuesday's practice, though coach Todd McLellan has not said if that line will stick for Game 3 on Wednesday, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: The Sharks have a 2-0 series lead over Detroit, but Marleau is still searching for his first point of the semifinal series. Perhaps a shakeup of the top lines would jump-start his game.
News: Marleau managed San Jose's only goal in a 3-1 home loss to the Kings on Saturday night.
Analysis: After being blanked in the first two games of the teams' first-round series, he's amassed two goals and three assists in the ensuing three contests. The next game of the series is in Los Angeles, but don't let that dissuade you from starting him.

Analysis: Marleau is too talented to sit unless you have a team of superstars.
News: Marleau's four-game scoring string ended Saturday in the Sharks' 3-2 shootout loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: If you drafted him with visions of an 80-point campaign, you already know disappointment. He's still a solid, balanced scorer (27-25-52 in 69 games), but last year's total of 83 points won't even get a nudge this season.
News: On Tuesday, Marleau lifted the Sharks to a 3-2 win over the Predators by scoring in overtime.
Analysis: One shot was all that Marleau needed to give the Sharks the win and record his 27th goal of the season. His 62-point pace qualifies as a down year by Marleau standards, but you can depend on him as a serviceable fantasy option if you're in the running for a championship.
News: Despite scoring, Marleau posted a rating of minus-1 in a 3-2 loss to the Stars on Saturday.
Analysis: Marleau has four goals in the past five games, but the veteran winger probably is losing some fantasy appeal as the owner of a minus-11 rating on the season.
News: Marleau went plus-2 with a goal and an assist in the Sharks' 3-1 win over the Red Wings on Thursday.
Analysis: Marleau has 49 points in (25 G, 24 A) in 65 games this season, but his minus-10 rating in the plus/minus column is currently the worst on the Sharks.
News: Marleau had two goals, including the game winner, Wednesday night in San Joe's 3-2 overtime win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: He scored the winning goal with only four seconds left in the overtime period. Marleau now has 24 goals, 22 assists, and a minus-13 rating in 62 games.
News: Marleau had a goal and an assist in Tuesday's win over Nashville.
Analysis: Marleau has just 43 points in 58 games this season, a far cry from last year when he finished with 83 points. Yet perhaps the worst number of all is Marleau's minus-15 rating. He's obviously still worthy of a roster spot in virtually all leagues with those point totals, but he's been a bit of a bust this season.
News: Marleau had the Sharks' only goal of the night as they lost 2-1 to the Devils on Friday.
Analysis: That's two straight games with a goal for Marleau. He's well off last season's scoring pace and has only 41 points in 56 games, but he's still a solid fantasy contributor.
News: Marleau had a goal and an assist Wednesday night as San Jose came back from two down to defeat Columbus 3-2.
Analysis: The goal he scored was the game winner, coming late in the third period. Marleau came into Wednesday night's action pointless in three games.
News: The Sharks beat the Wild on Saturday, 4-3, behind Marleau's pair of second-period assists. One of the helpers came on the power play.
Analysis: He's on a mini-hot-streak now, with six points in as many games. But he's still looking at a likely 60-point season, which will be a big disappointment when measured against preseason expectations.
News: Playing in his 1,000th career game Monday, Marleau lit the lamp in a 4-2 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Marleau has been a key member of the Sharks ever since the team drafted him second overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he's had points in more than 72 percent of his games, but is still looking for a Stanley Cup win.
News: Marleau registered a pair of goals Tuesday in a 4-2 loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Compared to last season, Marleau is having a down year statistically, but it's nights like this one that remind us all why he should not be benched in fantasy hockey.
News: Marleau registered yet another power-play goal in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Canucks.
Analysis: Marleau tends to balance inconsistent play with a power-play tally. Already, he has eight goals and eight assists on the man advantage.
News: Marleau scored on the power play Wednesday to the credit of his 14th goal of the season, but the Sharks lost to the Wild, 5-3.
Analysis: With seven PP goals this season, Marleau stands as one of the most dangerous weapons on the man advantage in the whole league. The bad news is that he owns a minus-16 rating, a real sore spot for fantasy owners working with individual categories. Still, Marleau is the type of player that you should stick with through the good, bad and the ugly.
Sharks' Marleau Strikes Twice To End Scoreless Streak
News: Marleau scored two goals Thursday against Phoenix, snapping a 10-game goalless streak, and added an assist.
Analysis: He last scored Dec. 2 against Ottawa. Marleau's 28 points, half of then on the power play, are still useful, but his minus-14 is a major drag. After the last two seasons, it seemed like he was past his year-to-year inconsistency, but here it is again. Maybe Thursday's big game will get him back on the right track; fantasy owners can only hope.
News: Marleau endured his ninth straight game without a goal Saturday. He did collect an assist as the Sharks beat the Blues, 4-1.
Analysis: We think it's time to do the previously unthinkable, and downgrade him. He is still, to use investing terms, investment grade; he's not a junk bond yet. But there are certainly players in your pool who have done better recently than the one-time fantasy stud who's now staring hard at a fight just to reach 60 points.
News: Marleau is minus-16 through 30 games, the lowest rating among Sharks this season.
Analysis: The Sharks have struggled when Marleau has been on the ice, a bit troubling considering he averages about 26 shifts per game. Worse yet, Marleau isn't helping his own cause by having just one point (an assist) in the past six games. If Team Teal wishes to be a Powerhouse in the Pacific Division, it will be up to Marleau to elevate his game.
News: Marleau was replaced on the top line by Torrey Mitchell in Sunday's practice, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: With fantasy studs in Marleau, Joe Thornton and Dany Heatley usually getting the first shift, it's no secret that the Sharks have been top heavy when it comes to their forward lines. As Marleau himself suggested in the report, moving down the lineup creates more balance between the lines for a big game Monday against Detroit. This is not a reason to bench Marleau, especially since it could only be a short-term solution.
News: Marleau trickled in a game-winning rebound on the man advantage during Thursday night's 4-0 win over the Senators.
Analysis: In the midst of a rather unique trend, Marleau has put up at least one point in every other game dating back to November 6. He's a must start in fantasy land.
News: Marleau scored twice to put away a 5-2 win over the visiting Blackhawks.
Analysis: Everyone wants to beat the defending Stanley Cup champs and the Sharks put it to them. Marleau's goals were his ninth and 10th of the season, the second fired into an empty net. An elite center, Marleau should be plastered to starting spots.
News: Continuing his pattern of registering points in every other game, Marleau went hungry Saturday as the visiting Blue Jackets blanked the Sharks, 3-0.
Analysis: The silver lining is his eight shots on goal on the night. The Sharks have lost three games in four nights, but Marleau has fired away 18 times in that span. If he maintains that pace, he won't have any problem keeping his fantasy owners smiling. Keep him active; he's much too good to sit.
News: Marleau generated three points (1G, 2A), helping the Sharks win by a score of 6-3 on Monday night.
Analysis: Marleau recently started a streak where he's putting up points in every other game, but the multi-point performance Monday leaves him with more points (17) than games played (16) on the season. Marleau remains an elite fantasy forward in all league formats.
News: Marleau, playing without his usual pivot Joe Thornton, didn't miss a beat Saturday, lighting the lamp twice as the Sharks beat the Bolts.
Analysis: He's one of three San Jose skaters north of the point-per-game pace (6G, 7A in 12 games), and he's likely to stay there as the season unfolds.
News: Marleau had three assists and tickled the twine once in Wednesday's 5-2 win over visiting New Jersey.
Analysis: Marleau has played well to start this season and should be considered a top center in all fantasy formats.
News: Marleau needs only one goal or assist to reach 700 points for his career.
Analysis: The Sharks are the only NHL team that Marleau has played for despite his being in the league since 1997. He has a great shot of reaching the impressive points milestone Saturday against the Oilers.
News: Marleau extended his point streak to four games with a pair of secondary assists in Thursday's 4-2 win over Colorado.
Analysis: Marleau teamed up with Dany Heatley, who connected with Joe Pavelski, for a pair of goals on the man advantage in the second period. Marleau now has more points (6) than games played (5).

Sharks' Marleau Notches First Point Of Young Season
News: Marleau tallied an assist in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: It's easy to be greedy when owning a star player like Marleau. He's fresh off a season in which he averaged more points (83) than games played (all 82), and anything less than that can be disappointing to the countless fantasy owners that depend on him in their respective pools. In that regard, we suggest that you utilize him as an everyday fantasy starter in all league types.
Patrick Marleau: Tickles The Twine For San Jose Saturday
News: Marleau scored a goal in Saturday's 3-1 win over Phoenix.
Analysis: The veteran left winger scored a goal in the third period, breaking a 1-1 tie. After struggling in the 2007-08 season, Marleau has put up great stats the last two years. Last season, he set a career high in goals with 44. With the Sharks' offense being one of the best in the league, Marleau should have plenty of chances to put up points this season.
News: After excelling in the regular season, the Olympics and the playoffs, Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski both earned the right to test their worth on the free agent market. Instead of looking for the biggest contract, the two star forwards decided to remain with the San Jose Sharks by signing four-year deals a week before becoming free agents. "You want to be on a winning team and you want to allow the team to be able to bring in players or to keep players around in order for you to be a successful team and win," Marleau said. "That's definitely something we talked about and played a factor." Marleau, who was eligible to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, will reportedly receive $27.6 million. Pavelski, who could have been a restricted free agent, got $16 million.
Analysis: Marleau, the No. 2 overall pick in the 1997 draft, is first on the career list of almost every major offensive category for San Jose. He has more goals (320), assists (373) and games played (953) than any player in franchise history. Marleau, 30, is coming off his most productive season. He scored a team-leading 44 goals, the fourth most in the NHL, and finished with 83 points playing mostly on a line with fellow Canadian Olympians Joe Thornton and Dany Heatley. He also felt a weight lifted off his shoulders when he was stripped of his captaincy by coach Todd McLellan. Now that we know Marleau will remain in San Jose, he will continue to be a high-end Fantasy option.
News:Joe Thornton's assist set up Patrick Marleau's winning score 7:07 into overtime and his second goal in two games sparked a comeback for San Jose, which beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Tuesday night and grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second-round series. Thornton scored on a wraparound goal -- sending the puck off Pavel Datsyuk's stick and into his own net -- and made a perfect play on the odd-man rush to allow Marleau to score easily into an open net.
Analysis: Marleau has managed two points (one goal) in two games after missing the opener of the semifinals with an undisclosed injury. Marleau led the Sharks with 44 goals in the regular season. Marleau had a great season in 2009-10 despite being striped of his captaincy. Losing the responsibilities actually lifted a weight off his shoulders. Marleau is headed for free agency after the season, but wherever he signs, he should be a nice high-end Fantasy forward.
News:Patrick Marleau was scratched from Game 1 of the San Jose Sharks' second-round series against Detroit because of an undisclosed injury. The Sharks said Marleau is day to day. Game 2 is Sunday night.
Analysis: Marleau led the Sharks with 44 goals in the regular season. He scored only one goal in six games in the first round against Colorado. Marleau had a great season in 2009-10 despite being striped of his captaincy. Losing the responsibilities actually lifted a weight off his shoulders. Marleau is headed for free agency after the season, but wherever he signs, he should be a nice high-end Fantasy forward.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored a goal and finished at plus-1 on Sunday against the Avalanche. San Jose tied at 4 on Marleau's 43rd goal of the season with 11:47 left. It was just his second goal in 12 games.
Analysis: Marleau has been mired in his longest scoring drought of the season and the critics are once again coming out of the woodwork. Marleau usually struggles late in the season, particularly in the playoffs, and appears headed down that slippery slope again. However, he is still putting points on the board, so he hasn't been totally useless in Fantasy. Keep Marleau active in all formats since he is such a big scoring threat.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Sharks C Patrick Marleau put seven shots on goal and was a minus-2 in Buffalo on Saturday to extend his pre-Olympic break streak to five straight games without a goal. Marleau, whose 38 goals this season already have matched his career high, set last year, has only one longer goal-less streak this season -- a six-gamer from Nov. 4-14.
Analysis: Marleau hasn't had many cold spells in 2009-10, as he is well on his way to breaking his goals (38), assists (33) and points totals (71) from 2008-09. It's no surprise Marleau has really ramped up the production in 2009-10 since he is in a walk year. It has also helped him after San Jose took away his captaincy. It has been a weight that has been lifted off his shoulders. Marleau is one of the league's top-scoring threats and a must-start Fantasy option through thick and thin.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Sharks C Patrick Marleau needed only 57 games this season to score as many goals (38) as he has during any of his previous 11 seasons. Marleau scored a career-high 38 last season, and he's going to roll well past that number this year. "It's nice to be up there right now knowing you're among the top guys," said Marleau, who sat atop the league's goal-scoring list along with Washington's Alexander Ovechkin after Thursday's play. "It's one of those things you've got to take in stride and not kind of think about it too much, and keep playing."
Analysis: It's no surprise Marleau has really ramped up the production in 2009-10 since he is in a walk year. It has also helped him after San Jose took away his captaincy. It has been a weight that has been lifted off his shoulders. Marleau is one of the league's top-scoring threats and a must-start Fantasy option.
News:Patrick Marleau reflexively got his stick up in time to make enough contact to score yet again. Its just the kind of season hes having. Marleau scored his NHL-leading 36th and 37th goals in the San Jose Sharks 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. Both goals came in the third period. The first was on a power play. He assisted on Joe Pavelski's goal in the second period as well.
Analysis: Marleau finished Saturday's game with three points and has four in his last two games and 12 points in his last seven. With 61 points on the season, Marleau remains a must-start Fantasy option for use in all leagues.
News: However Patrick Marleau looks at the Sharks' past two games, he can't come up with many ways they could play much better -- and that two-game stretch of near-perfection has put San Jose back on top of the NHL. Marleau and Ryane Clowe scored two goals apiece, and the Sharks completed a remarkable two-day scoring barrage with a 5-1 victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. A day after San Jose demolished the Calgary Flames in a 9-1 victory at the Shark Tank, Marleau led the Sharks to three first-period goals and an easy victory against their Pacific Division rivals. When asked if the Sharks had played to their full potential in the past 27 hours, Marleau barely bothered to equivocate. "I think it's close," the NHL's leading goal-scorer said. "Maybe last night was a little better than tonight."
Analysis: Marleau, who relinquished his Sharks captaincy this season, looks remarkably quick and comfortable without that "C" on his shoulder weighing him down. After not being among the Sharks' eight goal-scorers in that big victory against Calgary, he bumped his goal total to 34 -- two more than Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby, who also scored two goals on Tuesday. Marleau also has motivation to have a monster season because of pending free agency. Keep him active in all Fantasy formats.
News:Patrick Marleau scored two more goals to stay ahead of the NHL with 31 and added an assist to help lead the San Jose Sharks past the slumping Phoenix Coyotes 3-1 Tuesday night.
Analysis: Marleau now has 49 points on the season for the Sharks. Marleau continues to rack up the points in 2009-10 and remains a must-start Fantasy option in all formats. He's pretty much living up to expectations.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau made it three straight games with a goal when he lit the lamp in Wednesday's OT win over the Blues.
Analysis: Marleau continues to rack up the points in 2009-10 and remains a must-start Fantasy option in all formats. He's pretty much living up to expectations.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored his 27th goal of the season in Monday's loss to the Kings.

News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored twice in Saturday's win over the Ducks, giving him four goals on the week and 25 on the season.
Analysis: Marleau continues to maintain a point-per-game pace this season and remains a must-start option in all Fantasy formats.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored twice on Monday in a win over the Stars in Dallas. Marleau netted his 22nd goal in the 2nd period of the game and added his 23rd in the 3rd.
Analysis: Marleau now has 39 points on the season and five in his last two games with three goals and two assists. He's been solid all year and deserves to be starting in just about all Fantasy leagues right now.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored a goal, tallied two assists and finished at plus-3 on Thursday against the Ducks. Marleau gave San Jose a 2-0 lead as he beat Jean-Sebastien Giguere with a tip-in at 15:25 of the second period. It was only his second goal in six games and 21st on the season.
Analysis: Marleau has played all over the place for San Jose in 2009-10, but the results have been the same -- lots of goals and lots of points. Marleau has regained his confidence ever since Todd McLellan arrived in town last season. But he has some extra motivation this season in a contract year. Marleau is too big of a threat to sit in Fantasy.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau celebrated his 900th career game on Tuesday by scoring twice against the Senators to take the team lead with 19. Dany Heatley set up the first goal of the game after making a good effort to keep the puck in at the blue line. He got it to Joe Thornton, who fed Marleau for the opening score. Heatley assisted on another goal by Marleau in the second period when his backhand shot was deflected onto the stick of Marleau, who beat Brian Elliott to make it 3-1 just four seconds after Matt Carkner came out of the box for a delay-of-game penalty.
Analysis: Marleau has eight goals and 10 points in his last nine games. He has been moved to the team's top line with Heatley and Thornton, but even when he was manning the second line, Marleau was posting big numbers. He definitely looks like a player in a contract year. Marleau is too big of a threat to sit in Fantasy.
News:Patrick Marleau scored three goals, and Joe Pavelski had the lone shootout goal in the San Jose Sharks' 5-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night. Marleau completed the hat trick with a short-handed goal with 1:26 left in regulation. His first goal came at even strength in the first period and his second goal at 5:55 of the third closed the gap to one goal. He also assisted on Ryane Clowe's tying goal.
Analysis: Marleau had three multi-goal outings this season before Friday's game, but he had his first hat trick of the season against the Oilers. Marleau has six goals in his last six games and is starting to get on a roll again after being a little cold earlier in November. Marleau is too big of a threat to sit in Fantasy, especially during a walk year.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored a goal, tallied an assist and finished at plus-2 during Sunday's game against Carolina. Marleau finished the scoring by blasting a slap shot past Cam Ward on the power play 11:12 into the third. It was his 11th goal.
Analysis: Marleau has six goals and nine assists during an eight-game point streak. He posted 19 points in October and is off to a great start in November with two points in his first game. Marleau is still playing very well despite being bumped off the top line. He is in a contract year, so he has a lot of extra motivation. Continue to start him in all Fantasy formats.
News: San Jose C Patrick Marleau is extremely hot at the moment. Marleau recorded two assists on Friday night in a 3-1 win over Colorado. The two points give him 19 on the season.
Analysis: Marleau now has points in seven straight games and has a total of 13 over that span with five goals and eight assists. He is melting the ice he's so hot and should be active in almost all Fantasy leagues.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored his 10th goal of the season Wednesday in a win over the Kings, extending his point streak to six games (5G, 6A).
Analysis: Marleau is simply scorching early and is showing that he is still a point-per-game guy worth using in all formats. A second 80-point season in his career isn't out of the question.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau enjoyed the 34th career multi-goal game of his career with two goals in Atlanta on Saturday. He also had an assist to match his season high of three points (accomplished three times in the first 11 games).
Analysis: Marleau has four goals and four assists during a four-game points streak. He has been playing a lot at his natural position of center with Joe Pavelski injured, but it hasn't stopped Marleau from being productive. Continue to start him in all Fantasy formats.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored his seventh goal of the season and added two assists in Monday's 7-3 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Marleau now has 10 points on the season and looks on track for a second straight point-per-game season after his disappointing 2007-08 campaign. He remains a must-start Fantasy forward in all formats.
News:The Sports Xchange reports because Patrick Marleau is off to a fast start with five goals, it's easy to conclude he's having success now that the pressure of being captain has been lifted from his shoulders. That wouldn't necessarily correlate, however. "I've just learned that it's really important to keep an even keel," Marleau said. "As you get older, you learn that the only thing you can really control is yourself and what you do. I'm not really worried about everything else anymore."
Analysis: Marleau's mature outlook on getting stripped of the designation he held since 2005-06 has not only worked for himself, but has impressed the others around him. "If there was one individual who could have wanted to get away from it all, push back or buck the system with all that's gone on in his world, it's Patty Marleau," coach Todd McLellan said. "But he has done the exact opposite. He has embraced his teammates, his situation, and he's had a great start." Marleau is playing center for a few weeks with Joe Pavelski sidelined, but as long as he is on the ice, Marleau remains a high-end Fantasy option.
News: San Jose Sharks center Joe Pavelski will be sidelined for about two weeks with a lower body injury. Coach Todd McLellan says Pavelski had a minor procedure performed on the undisclosed injury on Monday. Patrick Marleau will move from wing to center to take Pavelski's place on San Jose's second line.
Analysis: Marleau has three goals in two games despite being bumped off the team's top scoring line. He is a better scorer as a winger, but will still be heavily involved on offense as a center. Keep Marleau active in all Fantasy formats.
News: San Jose C Patrick Marleau scored both of the Sharks' goals on Thursday in a 2-0 loss to the Avalanche in the team's opening game. Marleau's first goal came on a wrist shot 5:47 into the first period to the game at 1. His second goal was scored 8:26 into the second period on a wrist shot as well.
Analysis: Marleau has been rumored to be interested in getting traded out of San Jose but didn't look too unhappy on Thursday, scoring twice albeit in a losing effort. Marleau had his best career season in 2008-09 with 71 points in 76 games and is off to a blazing start in 2009-10 with two goals in the opener. Marleau should remain active in all Fantasy formats.

News:Dany Heatley got on the ice for a few precious minutes Friday in his first practice with his new team. Heatley skated with San Jose Sharks center Joe Thornton and right wing Devin Setoguchi, who make up one of the most potent top lines in the NHL. "It was more fun than skating by myself," Heatley said in an introductory press conference. "I had fun with those two guys. It was fun to pass the puck and get a feel for them." Heatley had been working out on his own, with his father Murray, a former professional hockey player, following his trade request, which was leaked in June. The former 50-goal scorer was traded to the Sharks, along with a fifth-round pick in 2010, for forwards Jonathan Cheechoo and Milan Michalek and a second-round 2010 pick. "I feel good right now and I want to get going," he said. "It was good to go back to Kelowna (British Columbia) and get away for a while. I got some ice time and I've been feeling good. It was tough mentally all summer but I felt confident something was going to happen."
Analysis: The Sharks had a lot of success in 2008-09 when Thornton and Setoguchi skated alongside Patrick Marleau. The trio were the Sharks' three best offensive players and combined for 222 points. It's not like Heatley is a big drop off at all. In fact, he could be more explosive than Marleau. We expect Thornton and Setoguchi to continue to thrive on the first line. Thornton remains a must-start Fantasy forward and Setoguchi is also worth drafting in most formats. However, he is more of a No. 3 or No. 4 Fantasy forward. As for Marleau, he still has high-end Fantasy appeal playing on the second line, but he could see a decline in production.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Sharks C Patrick Marleau would not discuss a rumor he had been asked to drop the no-trade clause in his contract to make way for a three-way trade involving Ottawa and Montreal. GM Doug Wilson denied ever asking Marleau to drop the clause.
Analysis: Marleau's name has come up in trade rumors this offseason, but as we get closer to training camp, it seems more likely he will stay put. During the 2008-09 regular season the Sharks' MVP was Marleau, who rebounded from the worst season of his career (19 goals, 48 points in 78 games) to achieve a career-high total in goals (38) along with 71 points in 76 games. He was a plus-16 with only 18 penalty minutes and averaged a healthy 21:21 of ice time. Unfortunately, he wasn't much of a help as San Jose was upset in the first-round of the playoffs by Anaheim. He is entering the final year of his contract, so Marleau has some added incentive. Even if he stays, Marleau is going to be one of coach Todd McLellan's top offensive weapons. It's going to take a trade to a very bad team for Marleau to lose considerable Fantasy value. He should be a high-end option when 2009-10 begins.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Sharks general manager Doug Wilson refuted a recent report in the Toronto Sun that suggested he was not going to trade either Joe Thornton or Patrick Marleau. While Wilson has gone as far as to say Thornton will be back next season, he has not publicly gone that far with Marleau, the team's captain who has once again come under scrutiny for San Jose's early playoff ouster. Wilson reiterated that Thornton is going nowhere, and he added veteran defenseman Dan Boyle to the list. But he stopped at those two. Wilson said he was misquoted at the recent GM meetings, where he admitted to engaging in "an awful lot of discussions" and that "those discussions are ongoing."
Analysis: During the regular season the Sharks' MVP was Marleau, who rebounded from the worst season of his career (19 goals, 48 points in 78 games) to achieve a career-high total in goals (38) along with 71 points in 76 games. He was a plus-16 with only 18 penalty minutes and averaged a healthy 21:21 of ice time. Unfortunately, he wasn't much of a help as San Jose was upset in the first-round of the playoffs by Anaheim. He is entering the final year of his contract, so San Jose might opt to clear some cap space. Even if he stays, Marleau is going to be one of coach Todd McLellan's top offensive weapons. It's going to take a trade to a very bad team for Marleau to lose considerable Fantasy value. He should be a high-end option when 2009-10 begins. Stay tuned.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau made his much-anticipated return to the lineup Thursday against the Coyotes after missing five games with a lower-body injury. He had a lackluster affair, recording no points in 19:14 of ice time and finishing at minus-1. Marleau has no points in four games and is at minus-4 in that span.
Analysis: Marleau has really been stuck in a rut since late February. He has just four goals and three assists in his last 19 games. It's not the production we have expected from Marleau, who has had a big bounce-back season with 37 goals and 33 assists. Marleau will be back in 2009-10 for his second run under coach Todd McLellan. Thanks to a solid 2008-09 campaign, Marleau will be back among the elite Fantasy forwards on Draft Day.
News: Sharks captain Patrick Marleau and high-scoring forward Ryane Clowe expect to return to San Jose's lineup Thursday night for the NHL-leading club's regular-season home finale. San Jose has stayed atop the league despite significant injury problems, including lower-body injuries for Marleau and Clowe. Marleau has missed five games, including Tuesday night's 1-0 shootout win over Colorado, while Clowe has been sidelined since March 19.
Analysis: Finally, the Sharks are getting close to 100 percent heading into the playoffs and Marleau will have a few games to condition himself for the stretch run. He has struggled somewhat offensively over the last few weeks, but his season as a whole has been productive and that will thrust Marleau back up the draft board in 2009-10. He certainly will have high-end Fantasy potential on Draft Day 2009.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau (lower body) was unable to play Tuesday against the Avalanche. He has missed five games and remains questionable for Thursday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Coach Todd McLellan feels Marleau might return for 1-2 games in the final week, but the objective right now is to make sure he is 100 percent ready for the playoffs. That hurts Fantasy owners who might have needed Marleau in the final week of action. He usually does have high-end Fantasy appeal when healthy.
News: Sharks captain and leading goal scorer Patrick Marleau missed his fourth straight game Sunday against the Ducks because of an undisclosed lower body injury. He remains questionable for Tuesday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Coach Todd McLellan feels Marleau might return for 1-2 games in the final week, but the objective right now is to make sure he is 100 percent ready for the playoffs. That hurts Fantasy owners who now have to treat Marleau as an injury-risk start Week 27 (April 6-12). He usually does have high-end Fantasy appeal.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau missed a thirs straight game Saturday against the Ducks with a lower-body injury. He remains questionable heading into Sunday's rematch at Anaheim.
Analysis: With the Sharks assured one of the top two spots in the Western Conference playoffs, San Jose has no need to rush Marleau back. It comes at a bad time for Fantasy owners since they are currently battling for championship glory with just a few weeks left in the season. After being such a hot commodity for most of the season, Marleau is enduring his worst stretch of the season. He has just four goals and three assists in his last 18 games. However, he still has high-end Fantasy appeal when healthy. If he is unable to play on Sunday, he'll be considered an injury risk for the upcoming scoring period.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau missed a second straight game Thursday against the Oilers with a lower-body injury. He remains questionable heading into Saturday against the Ducks.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau was not in the lineup Monday against the Flames after sustaining a lower-body injury Saturday against the Coyotes. The San Jose Mercury News reports Marleau has not accompanied the team on its current two-game road trip, which ends Thursday against the Oilers. "They just had a newborn," coach Todd McLellan said of Marleau and his wife. "He did a real admirable thing, the day after the little one arrived, to fly all away across the country, play that game and fly all the way back. We travel enough during the year, he plays a lot -- it makes no sense to bring him if he can't help the team."
Analysis: The Sharks are pretty much assured one of the top two spots in the Western Conference and are now just battling for the top seed with Detroit. There is no need to push Marleau and risk further injury with the playoffs right around the corner.
News:The Sports Xchange reports as Patrick Marleau stood just outside the Sharks' locker room signing autographs and posing for pictures with adoring fans Saturday night, you'd never know there was anything wrong with him. But what is happening to the best team in hockey with ridiculous regularity struck again. Marleau joined a long line of injured players when he got hurt late in the first period against the Coyotes. "We'll call it day-to-day," San Jose coach Todd McLellan said of Marleau's lower-body injury.
Analysis: Marleau did something to incur an injury to his lower body late in the first period, took one shift in the second and decided to shut it down for the night. McLellan said Marleau wouldn't skate on Sunday. Marleau slipped back into the dressing room after his short autograph session and was unavailable to answer questions. "In my mind, standing on the bench, I don't know what happened," McLellan said. Marleau returned to the lineup Thursday against the Predators after taking a one-game personal leave. Obviously, these two situations are totally unrelated so we can't assume Marleau has had a lingering injury. After being such a hot commodity for most of the season, Marleau is enduring his worst stretch of the season. He has just four goals and three assists in his last 18 games. This injury just takes the cake. Marleau has to be considered an injury-risk start Week 26 (March 30-April 5).
News: San Jose C Patrick Marleau was back in action on Thursday against the Predators after missing Wednesday's game against the Blackhawks. He took six shots in the game but failed to record a point in the game.
Analysis: Marleau has been in a funk of late and that funk continued on Thursday. He has only five points in all of March with three goals and two assists. He remains a high-end option who will hopefully snap out of it soon.
News: Sharks captain Patrick Marleau missed Wednesday's game against the Blackhawks to be with his wife, who gave birth to their second son. He remains questionable to rejoin San Jose on their two-game road trip, which ends Thursday against the Predators.
Analysis: After being such a hot commodity for most of the season, Marleau is enduring his worst stretch of the season. He has just four goals and three assists in his last 16 games. This is not the type of production we expect from Marleau, who is having a great bounce-back season. Marleau has high-end Fantasy potential when active and should be back in the lineup before Fantasy Week 26 (March 30-April 5).
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored and assisted in Saturday's win over the Stars, reaching the 70-point mark for the third time in four seasons.
Analysis: Marleau has slowed down a little in March after a great season, but he remains a solid start in all Fantasy formats.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored his 34th goal of the season in Thursday's win over the Senators.
Analysis: Marleau continues to have a great bounce-back season after his disappointing 2007-08 campaign. Continue to start him in all formats.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored his 33rd goal of the season in Thursday's win over the Kings. He now has six goals in his last four games.
Analysis: If Fantasy owners were worried about Marleau's recent move to the third line in San Jose on Tuesday, those fears have been alleviated these last couple of games. Continue to start him in all formats.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored twice in Tuesday's win over the Oilers, giving him five goals in his last three games. One goal came short-handed, the other even-strength.
Analysis: If Fantasy owners were worried about Marleau moving to center the third line in San Jose on Tuesday, those fears were alleviated with his effort against Edmonton. This two-goal game might not be a regular occurrence for Marleau while he's on the third line, but you can't bench him until he actually shows signs of slowing down.
News: The San Jose Mercury News reports Sharks coach Todd McLellan made a few changes to his lines Tuesday, putting Lukas Kaspar on the left wing of the top unit with center Joe Thornton and right wing Devin Setoguchi. That means Patrick Marleau moves from the first line to the third, centering Mike Grier and Jonathan Cheechoo. "Ninety-nine percent of that is a function of injury," Coach Todd McLellan said. Marcel Goc is on injured reserve and Tomas Plihal day-to-day with a lower body injury, so the Sharks are thin at center, and McLellan decided the best course of action was to move Marleau back to his former position.
Analysis: Moving to center is not really something Fantasy owners want to see from Marleau since he has done so well on the left wing of Thornton's line in 2008-09. But this move is likely just temporary and Marleau should be back at left wing eventually. Marleau has 26 goals, 27 assists and a plus-20 rating in his first season under McLellan. He is one of the Sharks' top playmakers and a must-start Fantasy option as long as he is on the ice.
News: Sharks C Patrick Marleau scored a goal and added an assist during Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Devils. Marleau tied the game at two 8:46 into the first, getting his 30th of the season on a deflection during a power play. Marleau has three multi-point games in his last four outings. He has four goals and three assists in that span.
Analysis: Marleau is averaging more than a point-per-game and owes a lot of credit to the timely passing of Joe Thornton. Marleau has thrived in his first season under Todd McLellan and has put behind him the horrid 2007-08 season under Ron Wilson. Continue to treat Marleau as a must-start Fantasy option.
News:Patrick Marleau scored twice for the Western Conference-leading Sharks during Friday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Sabres. Marleau scored his first goal on the power play 18:17 into the first period and tallied his second goal 9:39 into the second. He had all of one goal in his previous six games.
Analysis: Marleau, who has 29 goals on the season, has managed six multi-goal games in 2008-09. He is averaging more than a point-per-game and owes a lot of that to the timely passing of Joe Thornton. Marleau has thrived in his first season under Todd McLellan and has put behind him the horrid 2007-08 season under Ron Wilson. Continue to treat Marleau as a must-start Fantasy option.
