Flyers Claim Boynton

News: The Flyers claimed Boynton (upper body) off waivers from the Blackhawks on Saturday, ESPNChicago.com reports.
Analysis: Boynton has just eight points this season and had been a healthy scratch for the Blackhawks several times this month. The change of scenery probably won't do much to boost his fantasy value but it might net him a second straight Stanley Cup.

Chicago's Boynton Dealing With Illness

News: Boynton has the flu which caused him to miss Tuesday's practice, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: His availability for Wednesday's game against the Avalanche is in question, but fantasy owners shouldn't be relying on players like Boynton anyway. He has six assists for his only points in 37 games.

Blackhawks' Boynton Bumped

News: Boynton will be a healthy scratch for the first time this season when the Blackhawks take on the Rangers on Monday, Chicago Breaking Sports reports.
Analysis: Brian Campbell is back from a sprained knee, making the team's blue line picture a little crowded. With just two points in 12 games, hopefully you weren't counting on Boynton anyway.

Boyton Returns to Ice for Blackhawks

News: Boynton will be back in the lineup Saturday night against the Red Wings after he served his one-game suspension.
Analysis: Boynton received a one-game regular season suspension after making a throat-slashing gesture during a preseason game against the Lightning. The Blackhawks could used his physical presence in the lineup against the Red Wings after losing their opener, 4-3, to the Avalanche in overtime.

'Hawks' Boynton Suspended for Opener

News: Boynton was suspended for the 2010-11 opener, October 7, after a throat-slashing gesture during the preseason game with the Lightning, the Daily Herald reports.
Analysis: The physical Boynton definitely made an impact with the start of the preseason. He made a throat-slash gesture to Tampa Bay's Blair Jones following their second-period fight in Wednesday's preseason opener. This is Boynton's second suspension for an inappropriate gesture. He was suspended in 2005-06 while playing for Boston.

Ducks place Boynton on waivers

News: The Ducks have placed D Nick Boynton on waivers.
Analysis: Boynton has just seven points this season and hasn't featured on the scoresheet since way back on Nov. 29. Continue to ignore him in all but the deepest of Fantasy formats.

Boynton nets first goal vs. Chicago

News: Ducks D Nick Boynton had a power-play goal during Friday's game against the Blackhawks. Boynton made it 3-0 at 10:26 of the second with his first goal of the season, beating Cristobal Huet through a screen with a one-timer from 50 feet while Dustin Byfuglien was off for goalie interference.
Analysis: Boynton has five of his six points this season in the last eight games. Boynton was a rotational blueliner up until his recent hot streak. He doesn't log a lot of power-play time and is more on the ice for his defense. Despite his recent hot streak, Boynton remains a low-end Fantasy option.

Boynton earning more playing time

News: The Orange County Register reports that Ducks D Nick Boynton is seeing more time on the ice lately thanks to his improved play. After being scratched in four of the first eight games, Boynton has suited up in the past six and seen his minutes increase during that span. "It's always an adjustment when you come to a new team," he said. "Obviously I didn't play the best in training camp and the coaches felt that way, too. I've gotten an opportunity in the last little bit here and I've got to take advantage of it. Help the team any way I can."
Analysis: Boynton has never been much of a Fantasy option outside of deeper leagues that reward PIM, so don't worry about him for now unless he suddenly turns his extra minutes into more points. He has only reached the 20-point mark once in his last four seasons.

Boynton can't crack opening lineup

News: The Sports Xchange reports Ducks D Nick Boynton, an offseason free agent addition who played for Florida last season, was a healthy scratch during Saturday's opener against San Jose.
Analysis: With all the experience Boynton has, it seemed he would have a permanent spot on the Ducks' blue line. It's doesn't seem to be that way with the emergence of Steve Eminger and Luca Sbisa. Consider Boynton a risky Fantasy option until he returns to the regular lineup.

Boynton heads to West Coast

News: The Ducks signed free agent defenseman Nick Boynton to a one-year deal Thursday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Analysis: The 30-year-old Boynton will be in his 10th NHL season in 2009-10, having played 505 career NHL games with Boston, Phoenix and Florida. He spent last season with the Panthers, scoring 21 points (five goals) with 91 penalty minutes and a plus-7 rating in 68 games. However, Boynton got into coach Peter DeBoer's doghouse late in the season and didn't see a ton of PT down the stretch. He gets a fresh start with Anaheim but still remains more of a low-end Fantasy defenseman. He also has value in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Boynton nets two points, plus-2

News: Panthers D Nick Boynton scored a goal, tallied an assist and finished at plus-2 during Tuesday's game against the Penguins. Boynton evened the game at 1 with his fifth goal 4:37 into the second. It was his first goal since Dec. 14.
Analysis: Boynton returned to the lineup Tuesday for the first time since facing disciplinary action in late February for an altercation with coach Peter DeBoer. An injury to Bryan McCabe allowed Boynton to dress Tuesday, but if he keeps performing like he did, then maybe DeBoer will keep him in the rotation. Despite the big game, Boynton has low-end Fantasy appeal.

Boynton clears the air with coach

News: The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports defenseman Nick Boynton, who hasn't played since Feb. 26 because of disciplinary reasons, skated with the team Thursday. However, he was a healthy scratch against the Penguins. Boynton, who was sent home from a road trip for getting into an argument with coach Peter DeBoer, sat down with his skipper Wednesday to clear the air. "I don't really want to comment on it," Boynton said. "What he says is what he says and that's the truth. Hockey is an emotional sport and that's it."
Analysis: Boynton believes he has a clean slate with DeBoer and should be back in the lineup shortly. "You know, you go out on the ice in this league and you try to knock people's heads off in fights, and you're friends after the game," he said. "So it doesn't take long for things to clear up. That's it. Everything is the way it was." The Panthers did add defenseman Steve Eminger at the trade deadline, but Boynton should eventually get back into action. The veteran defenseman in his first season with the Panthers after coming over in a draft day 2008 from Phoenix. He has four goals and 12 assists in 56 games, but is still more of a defensive-minded player when active. He has very low-end Fantasy appeal.

Florida to sit down with Boynton

News: TSN.ca reports the Panthers intend to meet with defenseman Nick Boynton after the NHL's trade deadline Wednesday to see whether or not they can get back on good terms. Boynton was sent home on Friday from the Panthers' road trip after he got into a verbal confrontation with head coach Pete DeBoer. It's not expected that the issue is going to be "irreconcilable," but the Panthers won't tend to the matter until they get through the trade deadline.
Analysis: The veteran defenseman in his first season with the Panthers after coming over in a draft day 2008 from Phoenix. He has four goals and 12 assists in 56 games, but is still more of a defensive-minded player when active. He has very low-end Fantasy appeal, even if he is shipped to another team or cut.

Boynton sent home by Panthers

News: Florida sent D Nick Boynton home for undisclosed disciplinary reasons. He missed his first game Saturday against the Devils and isn't expected to play again until Thursday against the Penguins at the earliest.
Analysis: The Panthers haven't divulged any information on why Boynton has been sent home, but they said they will deal with it when they get back to Florida. Boynton without goal since Dec.

News: Panthers D Nick Boynton tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 during Tuesday's game against the Devils. He has two assists in his last five games, but hasn't scored since Dec. 14.
Analysis: Boynton has showed some offensive skills at times in 2008-09, but is still on the ice more for his defensive prowess. Boynton has low-end Fantasy appeal and is best used in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.
