Bolts' Brewer Suddenly A Goal Machine

News: Eric Brewer potted two goals in the Bolts' 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets on Friday.
Analysis: After producing just one goal in his first 74 games of the season, the stay-at-home blueliner has popped off for three in his last two games. He's finished with a plus-5 rating over that time, but don't buy too much into the small sample size. Eric Brewer will continue to provide most of his usefulness in the hits and blocked shots categories during the playoffs.

Rare Goal For Bolts' Brewer Is First Of Season

News: Eric Brewer scored his first goal in 65 games this year Thursday during a 5-4 victory in Ottawa.
Analysis: Eric Brewer has a grand total of seven goals in the last four seasons (counting this year) combined, as he can seemingly only score by the light of the full moon when all the planets are aligned. The 1997 fifth-overall pick, Brewer's value to the Bolts -- and to fantasy owners -- stems from his physical play, not his offensive prowess.

PIM Becoming Scarce For Bolts' Brewer

News: Eric Brewer gathered only two penalty minutes over his last eight games before the Olympic break.
Analysis: Eric Brewer has limited game on the offensive end, so if he's not tallying hits or penalty minutes, he doesn't have much use for fantasy owners.

Bolts' Brewer Gets Rare Assist

News: Eric Brewer snapped an 11-game point drought with an assist in Sunday's win over Carolina.
Analysis: His best fantasy days are well behind him. He's more valuable on the ice.

Bolts' Brewer Returns To Lineup Wednesday

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) returned from injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: The defenseman was on the ice for 16:29, providing an empty stat sheet. Now that's he's ostensibly healthy, he should be a lineup regular on the second or third defensive pairing.

Bolts' Brewer Dons Full-Contact Jersey

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) was wearing his regular jersey during Tuesday's practice, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: His full participation would seem to bode well for his chances of returning from IR in the near future, possibly as early as Wednesday against the Canucks. Eric Brewer has been out since Dec. 21 with the injury.

Bolts' Brewer Skates Saturday

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) was on the ice Saturday participating in drills, but he's not ready to return yet, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Consider it progress for Eric Brewer, but he's still day-to-day after it was expected that he could return following the holiday break this week.

Bolts' Brewer Absent From Practice

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) was not on the ice during Friday's practice, Eric Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer was expected back after the holiday break, but it appears he'll need additional time to recover from the upper-body injury. It's uncertain when he might resume practicing, much less return to the lineup.

Bolts' Brewer Expected Back After Christmas

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) is expected to be back in the lineup after Christmas, reports the Tampa Bay Times. "Not long-term," coach Jon Cooper said. "Hopefully, [Monday] is the only game he misses."
Analysis: The injury is believed to be an arm injury. Wait to see his name in a box score before reactivating him.

Bolts' Brewer Ruled Out For Monday

News: Eric Brewer (upper-body) has already been ruled out for Monday's game, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer left Saturday's game with the injury and is spending his Sunday morning undergoing a barrage of tests and x-rays. The team will update his status as soon as they receive the results, but they are already assuming that he won't be ready for action by Monday.

Lightning's Brewer Exits With Upper-Body Injury

News: Eric Brewer left Saturday's game with an upper-body injury and will not return, Eric Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: The veteran blueliner was ruled out at the start of the third period, finishing with just 8:32 of ice time for the game. He's only scored seven points (all assists) this season, but two of those points came in the last four games.

Bolts' Brewer Puts In Full Practice

News: Eric Brewer (lower body) wore a full-contact jersey during Friday's practice, Eric Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Lightning haven't officially said so, but Eric Brewer's full availability Friday should allow him to get back in the lineup Saturday against the Jets. His return would certainly be welcome for a Bolts' defenseman corps that's already down three other members.

Saturday Return Possible For Tampa's Brewer

News: Eric Brewer (lower body) thinks that he could play Saturday against the Jets, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer will sit out a second straight game Thursday due to the lower-body injury, and he was noncommittal about playing Saturday, saying only that it's a "possibility." Tampa recalled Matt Taormina on Wednesday afternoon to fill in while Brewer is on the mend.

Lightning's Brewer Not Expected To Play Thursday

News: Eric Brewer (lower body) is not expected to play Thursday against the Senators, Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: The lower-body injury will likely keep Eric Brewer from a second consecutive game Thursday, but it does not sound like he's in danger of landing on IR. The team is expected, however, to add a defender from the AHL to serve as depth while Brewer recovers.

Bolts' Brewer Nursing Lower-Body Injury

News: Eric Brewer will not play Tuesday against the Blue Jackets due to a lower-body injury, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer was still able to skate during pregame warmups and line rushes earlier in the morning, so it would seem that the injury isn't overly severe. He'll look to get some contact work in Wednesday before a possible return to the lineup Thursday night against the Senators.

Bolts' Brewer: No Points Since Opening Night

News: Eric Brewer has been held off the scoresheet since picking up an assist in the Lightning's first game.
Analysis: He has entered the understated era of his career. His name is rarely uttered in vain and he doesn't overextend himself. He plays strong positional hockey, so he doesn't tally many PIMs. And he's neither a shot blocker nor a hitter. So if your league has a category for door stops, this guy is your man. Otherwise, we suggest you consider other options. Any. Other. Options.

Bolts' Brewer: First Point In 10 Games

News: Eric Brewer picked up his first point in 10 games when he set up a goal in Tampa's 5-2 win over Carolina on Saturday night.
Analysis: He's not an offensive player -- his best season was 29 points and that came in 2006-07. We're pretty sure you can find better output elsewhere.

Bolts' Brewer Scores Twice; Had One Goal All Last Season

News: Eric Brewer, who scored one goal in 2011-12, scored twice Saturday in a 6-3 win over Washington. One of the goals came on the power play.
Analysis: We are certainly not advocating a waiver grab for the steady Eric Brewer, but he is worth watching if he continues to get power-play time. Nice night overall.

Bolts' Brewer Good To Go Thursday

News: Eric Brewer, who was shaken up in Tuesday's game, was on the ice for practice Wednesday and is good to go for Thursday's game, reports Damian Cristodero of the St. Petersburg Times.
Analysis: Eric Brewer was quick to tell reporters that he wasn't really shaken up -- he'd been cut and required repairs. His fantasy value is limited but make sure he's in there if you're using him.

Bolts' Brewer: Shaken Up But Able To Return

News: Eric Brewer was shaken up during a second-period fight with the Flyers' Wayne Simmonds on Tuesday night but was able to return to the game. He finished with six blocked shots and two hits.
Analysis: He will be evaluated Wednesday as a just-in-case, according to the Associated Press. Fingers crossed there are no problems. The Bolts can ill afford to lose another defender particularly after Victor Hedman was injured Tuesday night.

Bolts' Brewer Scores First Goal Of The Season

News: Eric Brewer picked up his first goal of the season in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Eric Brewer is better known as a defensive player and should be reserved for only the deepest of leagues. In 32 games played this season, Brewer has one goal and eight assists.

Bolts' Brewer: Two-Assist Sunday

News: Eric Brewer picked up two assists in Tampa's come-from-behind win over Florida on Sunday night. He was also plus-2.
Analysis: One of the helpers came on the power play. His fantasy value is limited, though, unless he starts to see a lot more action with the man advantage.

Bolts' Brewer (Upper Body): No Worse For Wear

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) played Thursday against the Islanders and finished plus-1. He skated 19:48.
Analysis: He also led the Bolts with four hits and four blocked shots. He appears to OK but his situation should be monitored.

Lightning's Brewer Skates Thursday Morning

Bolts' Brewer Has MRI For Old Injury

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) has had an MRI that was "possibly" about an injury that has lingered for a while, reports the St. Petersburg Times. He says he will be available for Thursday's game against the Islanders.
Analysis: Eric Brewer has a history of back surgeries (December 2008 and April 2009) and this situation isn't related to any injury sustained in a practice or game. When asked what had happened to Brewer, general manager Steve Yzerman replied: "Don't really know." And then added, "It's nothing serious, we hope." The Bolts' blue line is already suffering with the loss of Mattias Ohlund; Brewer's loss would be devastating. He is the team's top defender.
