Ducks Acquire Brewer From Leafs

News: The Maple Leafs acquired Eric Brewer and a 2016 fifth-round pick from the Ducks on Monday in exchange for defenseman Korbinian Holzer (concussion), Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: The deal is largely a salary dump for the Leafs, who had the financial resources to take on Eric Brewer's $3.75 million cap hit if it meant getting a free draft pick in the process. Moreover, the Leafs were in need of healthy bodies on the blue line, so look for Brewer to function as a third-pairing or seventh defenseman for the team the rest of the season until hitting free agency in the summer.

Brewer Returns To Lineup Wednesday For Ducks

News: Eric Brewer played 19:09 against Ottawa on Wednesday night in Anahem.
Analysis: Eric Brewer was a healthy scratch Monday against the Wings, but was substituted for fellow blue-liner Ben Lovejoy (healthy) in Wednesday's game. Brewer has been a healthy scratch a number of times this season, and won't be able to gain any semblance of fantasy value until he can consistently get into the lineup.

Ducks' Brewer To Remain In Press Box Over Weekend

News: Though Eric Brewer (foot) has been activated from injured reserve, coach Bruce Boudreau doesn't plan on using him until Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer is considered fully healthy at this point, but he'll need to log a few practices to acclimate himself. After being acquired in a trade with the Lightning back on Nov. 28, Brewer barely had any time to establish continuity with his mates, suffering the broken foot in his first game with his new team.

Ducks Activate Brewer From IR

News: Eric Brewer (foot) was activated from injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Eric Brewer's return puts the Ducks roster at full health for the first time in a long while. He's not expected to displace any of the other Anaheim's blueliners from Thursday's lineup, however, but a return to action Friday against the Blackhawks seems more probable.

Ducks' Brewer (Foot) Could Be Cleared Soon

News: Eric Brewer (broken foot) is scheduled to visit with doctors in the near future and expects to be cleared for a return to action, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Acquired by the Ducks on Nov. 28, Eric Brewer broke his foot in his first game with his new team and hasn't played since. He's since resumed practicing with the team and should be on track to return in the near future, though a regular lineup role won't necessarily be waiting for him.

Ducks' Brewer Skates With Team Friday

News: Eric Brewer (broken foot) mixed in with the Ducks' defensive pairings during Friday's morning skate, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer had previously been limited to skating on his own, so his participation in Friday's session represents another step forward. He could be only a few days away from being activated from injured reserve, though it's possible that the Ducks will send him out on a conditioning assignment since he's been out for the last month and a half.

Ducks' Brewer (Foot) Resumes Skating

News: Eric Brewer (broken foot) has been able to resume skating on his own, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer hasn't practiced with the team yet, so it's tough to project a return timetable for him. The blueliner has been limited to just 19 games this season due to the injury.

Ducks' Brewer No Longer In Walking Boot

News: Eric Brewer (foot) is no longer in a walking boot, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer may begin skating next week, but is still a ways off from returning to game action. Once Brewer starts skating, he'll need multiple practices and perhaps even a rehab assignment before an activation would be considered.

Ducks' Brewer No Longer Needs Crutches

News: Eric Brewer (foot) is no longer using crutches, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer is now sporting a walking boot, which will still probably keep him off the ice for at least another week. Once he starts skating, he'll need multiple practices and quite possibly a rehab assignment before an activation would be considered.

Ducks' Brewer (Foot) Still Week-To-Week

News: Eric Brewer (foot) is still considered week-to-week with his recovery, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer continues to use crutches and may not be ready to play by early January as was initially projected. Although the Ducks' defense was ravaged by injuries at the time of Brewer's acquisition, the blue line should be back at close to full strength when he's finally activated from injured reserve.

Ducks Place Brewer On IR

News: Eric Brewer (foot) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: With the Ducks adding the Colby Robak to their roster after he was acquired from the Panthers earlier in the day, Eric Brewer was placed on IR to create room. Brewer, a recent acquisition himself, will likely remain out until January after fracturing a bone in his foot Monday night.

Ducks' Brewer Out 4-6 Weeks With Broken Foot Bone

News: Eric Brewer will miss four-to-six weeks after he was diagnosed with a broken bone in his foot, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: The Ducks might be experiencing some buyer's remorse after surrendering a third-round pick and only getting two games from Eric Brewer, who was acquired from the Lightning last week. He'll now likely be out through the New Year, becoming yet another blueliner to fall victim to a long-term injury. His loss will be cushioned a little by the impending return of Clayton Stoner (mumps), who is set to play Wednesday night.

Ducks' Brewer Hurts Foot Monday

News: Eric Brewer injured his foot in Monday's game against the Bruins, Janis Carr of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer was playing in just his second game with the Ducks before acquiring the injury, the severity of which remains unknown at this point. He'll undergo tests later Tuesday to reveal the full extent of the injury, but a potential long-term absence in the event of a fracture would be a crippling blow to the Ducks' blue line. After all, the injuries to Francois Beauchemin, Ben Lovejoy and Mark Fistric motivated the Ducks to give up a future third-round pick in return for Brewer in the first place.

Bolts Trade Brewer To Ducks

News: Eric Brewer was traded to the Ducks on Friday for a 2015 third-round draft pick, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Ducks were motivated to make a deal for a defenseman after Francois Beauchemin (broken finger) and Clayton Stoner (illness) both had their return dates pushed back for their respective ailments. Eric Brewer hadn't been seeing much work lately with the Bolts, but the Ducks should have a regular role ready for him immediately upon his arrival. The 35-year-old has four points and 18 PIM over 17 games this season.

Brewer Slots Onto Bolts' Blue Line Against Habs

News: Eric Brewer was in the lineup to start Monday's game against Montreal, according to Sportsnet One. Andrej Sustr was the healthy scratch.
Analysis: As expected, the Bolts seem to be rotating guys through that final D spot. Avoid him while he's in this type of situation -- it's hard to deliver fantasy value in sporadic use.

Bolts' Brewer: Healthy Scratch For Opener

News: Eric Brewer will be a healthy scratch for Thursday's season opener against the Panthers, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer's role on the Tampa defense was already beginning to decline last season, as his 17:33 average time on ice was nearly three minutes less than he saw in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign. With Anton Stralman and Jason Garrison joining the Bolts' blue line in the offseason, Brewer looks like he could be a victim of a numbers game. Expect coach Jon Cooper to use a rotation of Brewer, Mark Barberio and Andrej Sustr as his sixth defenseman.

Bolts' Brewer Suddenly A Goal Machine

News: Eric Brewer potted two goals in the Bolts' 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets on Friday.
Analysis: After producing just one goal in his first 74 games of the season, the stay-at-home blueliner has popped off for three in his last two games. He's finished with a plus-5 rating over that time, but don't buy too much into the small sample size. Eric Brewer will continue to provide most of his usefulness in the hits and blocked shots categories during the playoffs.

Rare Goal For Bolts' Brewer Is First Of Season

News: Eric Brewer scored his first goal in 65 games this year Thursday during a 5-4 victory in Ottawa.
Analysis: Eric Brewer has a grand total of seven goals in the last four seasons (counting this year) combined, as he can seemingly only score by the light of the full moon when all the planets are aligned. The 1997 fifth-overall pick, Brewer's value to the Bolts -- and to fantasy owners -- stems from his physical play, not his offensive prowess.

PIM Becoming Scarce For Bolts' Brewer

News: Eric Brewer gathered only two penalty minutes over his last eight games before the Olympic break.
Analysis: Eric Brewer has limited game on the offensive end, so if he's not tallying hits or penalty minutes, he doesn't have much use for fantasy owners.

Bolts' Brewer Returns To Lineup Wednesday

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) returned from injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: The defenseman was on the ice for 16:29, providing an empty stat sheet. Now that's he's ostensibly healthy, he should be a lineup regular on the second or third defensive pairing.

Bolts' Brewer Dons Full-Contact Jersey

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) was wearing his regular jersey during Tuesday's practice, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: His full participation would seem to bode well for his chances of returning from IR in the near future, possibly as early as Wednesday against the Canucks. Eric Brewer has been out since Dec. 21 with the injury.

Bolts' Brewer Skates Saturday

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) was on the ice Saturday participating in drills, but he's not ready to return yet, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Consider it progress for Eric Brewer, but he's still day-to-day after it was expected that he could return following the holiday break this week.

Bolts' Brewer Absent From Practice

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) was not on the ice during Friday's practice, Eric Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Eric Brewer was expected back after the holiday break, but it appears he'll need additional time to recover from the upper-body injury. It's uncertain when he might resume practicing, much less return to the lineup.

Bolts' Brewer Expected Back After Christmas

News: Eric Brewer (upper body) is expected to be back in the lineup after Christmas, reports the Tampa Bay Times. "Not long-term," coach Jon Cooper said. "Hopefully, [Monday] is the only game he misses."
Analysis: The injury is believed to be an arm injury. Wait to see his name in a box score before reactivating him.
