Avs' Briere Scores Buzzer-Beater In Win

News: Daniel Briere scored with 0.4 seconds remaining in Monday's game against the Bruins to break a 1-1 tie and give the Avalanche their first win of the season.
Analysis: A clutch performance from Daniel Briere, whose tiebreaking tally was the 300th goal of his career. He skated on the team's second line against the Bruins, lining up alongside Nathan MacKinnon and Alex Tanguay. Briere, who put up 25 points in 69 games with Montreal last season, could improve upon that in Colorado, considering the team's high offensive capabilities.

Avs' Briere Will Open Season With Third Line

News: Daniel Briere will open with Colorado's third line against the Wild on Thursday night.
Analysis: Daniel Briere had a season to forget last year in Montreal, but could be a sleeper to watch due to his new role in Colorado's offense. For now, we see Briere as a better real life player than fantasy. However, he could fall somewhere in the 30-40 point range if he remains healthy.

Briere Traded To Avs

News: The Avalanche have acquired Daniel Briere from the Canadiens in exchange for P.A. Parenteau and a fifth-round draft pick, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: The 36-year-old Daniel Briere, who recorded 13 goals and 25 points in 69 games with the Habs this past season, gives the Avs an experienced option up front, though his fantasy value will hinge on where (and with who) Colorado uses him. He's in the second year of a two-year, $8 million pact that he inked with Montreal last year, while Parenteau has two years left on his deal.

Habs' Briere Adds Goal, Assist In Win

News: Daniel Briere collected a goal and an assist in Wednesday's Game 7 win over the Bruins.
Analysis: Daniel Briere now has two goals and four assists in 10 games this postseason, and also has a plus-3 rating.

Habs' Briere Could Return To Lineup

News: Daniel Briere, who was scratched by the Habs on Saturday night, is a candidate to suit up for Monday's Game 6 against the Bruins, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Daniel Briere, who has recorded four points in eight playoff games to date, is a candidate to return to the Habs' lineup Monday, with the team having dropped two straight games to the Bruins and quite possibly looking for a spark up front in Game 6.

Analysis: Coach Michel Therrien went with Brandon Prust instead.

Habs' Briere Assists On Winner

News: Daniel Briere took four shots on goal and assisted on Dale Weise's game-winning goal in overtime Wednesday against Tampa Bay in the first game of their opening-round playoff series.
Analysis: The Canadiens' fourth line was humming in overtime, with Daniel Briere missing on a few scoring chances before his work behind the net helped Weise convert with just under two minutes remaining in OT. It's playoff time and Briere is Montreal's most seasoned player in terms of postseason experience. His assist gives him 110 points in 109 playoff games.

Habs' Briere Practices On Fourth Line

News: Daniel Briere centered the fourth line during Tuesday's practice before the Canadiens traveled to Tampa for Wednesday night's playoff game against the Lightning, Hockey Inside Out reports.
Analysis: Daniel Briere, who registered just 25 points in 69 games, was a disappointing free-agent signing this season but enters the postseason as Montreal's leader in playoff experience. All will be forgiven if he produces in April and May. In 108 playoff games, Briere has 109 points, including 50 goals.

Canadiens' Briere Scores On Power Play

News: Daniel Briere scored a power-play goal and won nine of 11 faceoffs in Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Buffalo. He has points in two straight games.
Analysis: Daniel Briere's been a disappointing free-agent signing, but he looks to have found a temporary home, centering the third line between Rene Bourque and Brian Gionta. His improved play put him on the second wave of the power play Tuesday.

Habs' Briere Centers Third Line

News: Daniel Briere was moved to center on the third line, skating with Rene Bourque and Brian Gionta in Saturday night's win over Toronto.
Analysis: Daniel Briere didn't pick up a point, but the line was responsible for two goals and should remain intact Monday against Boston.

Habs’ Briere Pots Two In Win

News: Daniel Briere scored two goals, added an assist and went plus-2 in Thursday's 6-5 shootout victory in Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Not too shabby for a fourth-liner who saw only 9:06 of ice time. In fact, Daniel Briere spent most of his time alongside the enforcer duo of Travis Moen and the mustachioed George Parros, adding to the unlikelihood of this mini offensive outburst. At 36 years old, the former 95-point scorer is a shade of his former self, but somehow has still managed to disappoint fantasy owners who tempered expectations after he was bought out by the Flyers last summer. Thursday's performance brings Briere's season point totals to 11 goals and 10 assists; maybe, just maybe, a combination of pride and recent trade rumors will help motivate him to salvage his season. More importantly, if the Quebec-native sees an uptick in ice time and linemate quality, he could be a sneaky pickup down the stretch. Add him to your watchlist.

Habs' Briere Scores Lone Goal In Defeat

News: Daniel Briere scored the Canadiens' lone goal in Saturday's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: Daniel Briere's tally tied the score at one apiece in the third period, as the forward took a cross-ice pass from Brian Gionta in the circle to beat goalie Ben Bishop short side. It's largely been a terrible season for Briere, but with two goals and an assist over his last two games, he could be starting to break through.

Habs' Briere Grabs Two Points Vs. B's

News: Daniel Briere tallied a goal and an assist in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Bruins.
Analysis: Prior to Thursday, Daniel Briere had just one point in his last 10 games. The 36-year-old forward still has time to turn his disappointing season around, but the clock is ticking.

Habs Promote Briere In Game

News: Daniel Briere, who began Saturday night's game centering the fourth line, was promoted to the Tomas Plekanec line after the first period with the Canadiens behind 3-1, Hockey Inside Out reports.
Analysis: Daniel Briere scored Montreal's lone goal in the first period, and then recorded another goal and an assist after the in-game promotion. It's been tough sledding for Briere this season, particularly of late, so we're taking the long view with regard to this one-game revival.

Habs' Briere: Three-Point Night

News: Daniel Briere, who had been a healthy scratch the last two games, returned to action Saturday and had his best game this season. He scored twice and added an assist in a 4-3 loss.
Analysis: It sounds like he might be on the trade block, so nights like this show teams he still has his 'touch.' The points were his first in his last 11 games and bring his season total to 13 in 30 games. His fantasy value is relatively limited, but a trade could change that and fast.

Habs' Briere Returns To Lineup

News: Daniel Briere, who was a healthy scratch the previous two games, will return to the lineup Saturday night against Ottawa, Hockey Inside Out reports.
Analysis: Daniel Briere re-enters the active lineup as a fill-in for Ryan White, who left Thursday's game with an upper-body injury. He'll center the fourth line between forwards Travis Moen and Michael Bournival.

Habs' Briere Likely Back In Lineup Saturday

News: Daniel Briere is expected to reenter the lineup Saturday vs. the Senators, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: With Ryan White still tending to the upper-body injury that forced him out of Thursday's game, Daniel Briere figures to draw back in after spending the last two contests in the press box as a healthy scratch. With just 10 points and a minus-4 rating in 29 games, Briere's days as a must-own player across all fantasy formats appears to be over.

Canadiens' Briere Scratched

News: Daniel Briere was a healthy scratch Tuesday night against Carolina.
Analysis: Daniel Briere, who has one point in the month of December and hasn't scored a goal since Nov. 29, is currently buried on Montreal's depth chart. At this point, coach Michel Therrien feels it's better to give a young player, like Michael Bournival, the playing time.

Habs' Briere Returns To Lineup

News: Daniel Briere returned to the lineup Saturday night after being a healthy scratch for one game. He skated 19 shifts for 13:41 of ice time in a 4-3 overtime win over Nashville.
Analysis: It's not happening for Daniel Briere right now. He did not have a shot on goal against the Predators and has been pointless for the last eight games.

Habs' Briere May Be Active Saturday

News: Coach Michel Therrien intends to get Daniel Briere back in the lineup Saturday against the Predators after the forward was a healthy scratch Thursday, the Montreal Gazette reports. Therrien believes Briere can help the Canadiens, but "he needs to be more intense and quicker to the puck."
Analysis: Daniel Briere, who hasn't registered a point in his last seven games, practiced with Lars Eller and Rene Bourque, which is Montreal's third line these days.

Habs' Briere Healthy Scratched Thursday

News: Daniel Briere will be a healthy scratch Thursday against the Blues, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Daniel Briere was banished to the fourth-line in the middle of Tuesday's game, and it now looks like he'll be even deeper in coach Michel Therrien's doghouse, as Ryan White will take his place in the lineup. Considering the sizable investment the Canadiens made in Briere this offseason, the limited production he's shown so far qualifies as a major disappointment.

Canadiens' Briere Practices On Fourth Line

News: Daniel Briere skated on the fourth line during Wednesday's practice, the Montreal Gazette reports. It looks like he'll be centering a line with Travis Moen and Michael Bournival when the puck drops Thursday in St. Louis.
Analysis: Daniel Briere was demoted to the fourth line as part of coach Michel Therrien's in-game adjustment during Tuesday night's win over Phoenix. The coach acknowledged last week that the team expects more from Briere, who signed a two-year, $8 million deal in the offseason and has just 10 points in 26 games.

Habs' Briere Gets Team Low ToI

News: Daniel Briere skated a team-low 4:27 with no shots in Tuesday night's 3-1 win over the Coyotes. He has just 11 shots and is minus-4 in the last 10 games.
Analysis: Montreal's biggest free-agent addition has just five goals in 26 games and is now spending time on the fourth line. If hockey is a meritocracy, Daniel Briere would be scratched for Thursday's road game in St. Louis.

Habs' Briere Moved To Fourth Line

News: Daniel Briere was moved to the fourth line for Monday night's game against New Jersey, Hockey Inside Out reports. He skated just nine shifts and 7:45 of ice time due to a matchup decision.
Analysis: Daniel Briere had difficulty coping with the size of Jaromir Jagr, Dainius Zubrus and Travis Zajac, so coach Michel Therrien moved the big body of Travis Moen to the Tomas Plekanec line.

Habs' Briere Scores Friday

News: Daniel Briere scored Montreal's first goal in Friday's 3-2 shootout loss to Washington. He has three goals in the past five games.
Analysis: Daniel Briere has found a scoring touch since replacing the injured Rene Bourque (lower body) on the Tomas Plekanec line. There's been some good chemistry going on with Briere, Plekanec and Brian Gionta, so head coach Michel Therrien is unlikely to break it up right now.
