Bruins' Chara Back In Form

News: Zdeno Chara, who is bouncing back from the displaced fracture of his left fibula that he dealt with late last season, pronounced himself healthy in advance of the coming season, csnne.com reports.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara finished the 2014-15 campaign with a modest total of 20 points in 63 games, to go along with 42 PIM, while averaging a career-low 23:21 of ice time. Injuries, including a torn PCL in his left knee that forced him out of action for more than a month, contributed to his dip in production, but a bounce-back could be in order now that he is healthy again. While hardly an up-and-comer at the age of 38, Chara is nonetheless being counted on heavily by the Bruins, especially with fellow blueliner Dougie Hamilton having been traded to the Flames. Ample ice time and a key role on the team's power play should thus provide Chara with an opportunity to re-establish his fantasy utility in 2015-16, in the absence of further injury setbacks.

Bruins' Chara Recovering From Ankle Issue

News: Zdeno Chara will not play for Slovakia in next month's IIHF World Championships, as he is reportedly recovering from an ankle fracture, csnne.com reports.
Analysis: The report suggests that Zdeno Chara suffered the injury toward the end of the regular season, but the big blueliner was able to tough it out during the stretch run in the Bruins' unsuccessful bid to make the playoffs. With an offseason ahead of him, Chara now has ample time to heal up from his ankle injury, as well as a knee issue that previously hobbled him. The 38-year-old has already indicated that he expects to return to form in 2015-16, and given his dedication to fitness and training, we don't doubt that he will put himself in the best possible position to potentially bounce back next season.

Bruins' Chara Diagnosed With Fibula Fracture

News: Zdeno Chara was diagnosed Tuesday with a non-displaced fracture of his left fibula.
Analysis: Fortunately for Zdeno Chara, the injury won't require surgery and needs about four weeks of recovery time, which should put him well on track for the start of training camp. Chara contributed a disappointing eight goals and 20 points across 63 games this season, and though he'll seemingly enter the 2015-16 campaign at full health, the 38-year-old clearly appears to be on the decline. While some uptick in his production might seem reasonable if he's able to avoid any lengthy absences, Chara is no better than the third-best fantasy option on the Bruins' blue line behind the likes of Torey Krug and Dougie Hamilton.

Bruins' Chara Aims To Return To Form Next Season

News: Zdeno Chara, who suffered a knee injury on Oct. 23 that kept him out until Dec. 11 this past season, expects to return to form in 2015-16, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara, who finished the 2014-15 campaign with 20 points in 63 games, to go along with 42 PIM, acknowledged that he was not 100  percent when he returned to action. Per csnne.com, moving forward Chara plans to wear a brace on his left knee, while continuing to play on a balky PCL ligament that has, at least, been stabilized. On the plus side, the 38-year-old Chara won't need any knee surgery this offseason, which should allow the fitness-minded blueliner to be as close to full strength as possible in advance of the 2015-16 campaign. "Coming back from a knee [injury] is always the most difficult to come back from," Chara relayed Monday. "Now it's 100 percent. One ligament is completely torn, but the rest of them are unaffected. So that saved me. If one of those [other ligaments] were torn, then I would have needed surgery. ACL, MCL…any of those and I would have needed surgery. You can be without [the PCL], and then it stabilizes after a few months."

Bruins' Chara To Have Permanent Permanent PCL Tear

News: Zdeno Chara will have a permanent PCL tear in his left knee, but the issue has healed and stabilized, and won't require surgery, Joe Haggerty of CSN New England reports.
Analysis: The issue shouldn't cost Zdeno Chara any time in 2015, as it appears it's already healed well enough, but it's worth noting that he will be playing with the torn PCL for the remainder of his career.

Bruins' Chara Remains Busy

News: Zdeno Chara took two shots while seeing a team-high 25:39 worth of ice time in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Unsurprisingly, Zdeno Chara, who took a puck off his foot/ankle in Saturday's game and then appeared to get hit in a similar area Wednesday, per the Boston Globe, toughed it out in Thursday's key game, but if the B's don't get some help in the next couple of days, the big blueliner's offseason could begin as soon as Sunday.

Bruins' Chara Looks Good To Go

News: Zdeno Chara (undisclosed) was on the ice for morning skate and appears set to play Wednesday against the Capitals, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara received a maintenance day Monday after taking a shot off his ankle in Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs, but returned to the ice for Tuesday's practice. His presence at morning skate likely assures his availability for Wednesday's game, which is critical towards the Bruins' hopes of securing a playoff spot.

Bruins' Chara Returns To Practice

News: Zdeno Chara (undisclosed injury) was at practice Tuesday.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara, who was shaken up after blocking a shot (with his left ankle/foot) on Saturday, was given a maintenance day Monday, but his return to the ice Tuesday suggests that the B's captain will be available for Wednesday's game against the Caps. Chara, who has eight goals and 20 points in 60 games overall this season, has not recorded a point over his last six games.

Bruins' Chara Given Maintenance Day

News: Zdeno Chara, who is dealing with an undisclosed injury, was given a maintenance day Monday, per coach Claude Julien.
Analysis: Given that Zdeno Chara was visibly shaken up after blocking a shot (with his left ankle/foot) on Saturday, it's not a huge surprise that he's getting a breather on Monday. While Julien is calling Chara's absence a maintenance day, we'll still consider the blueliner day-to-day -- as will the Bruins -- in advance of Wednesday's game against Washington.

Bruins' Chara Misses Practice

News: Zdeno Chara (unspecified issue) was not on the ice for Monday's practice, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara, who was in some pain after he absorbed a shot on his left ankle area during Saturday's win over Toronto, was able to finish the game, but given that he is not practicing Monday and that the Bruins have recalled fellow blueliner Joe Morrow on an emergency basis, Chara's status for Wednesday's game against the Capitals will need to be monitored.

Bruins' Chara Scores In Win

News: Zdeno Chara netted a power-play goal in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara has had difficulty getting on the scoresheet consistently of late, as the goal snapped a four game pointless stretch. In all, the defenseman has just three points in 11 contests since the start of March, bringing his season total to 20. The 38-year-old was dealing with injuries earlier in the season, but at this point it just appears that the offensive aspect of his game is no longer what it once was.

Bruins' Chara Pots Goal In 2-0 Win

News: Zdeno Chara notched an empty-net goal in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara has been unable to get hot since returning from a knee injury in December, and at this point in the season, it looks like he won't. He has yet to manage a point streak of more than two games this season, and has just seven goals and 12 assists over 49 contests. He still gives the Bruins a mean streak on the back end (just ask the Lightning's Cedric Paquette), but it's clear he's taken a backseat offensively to defensive partner Dougie Hamilton.

Bruins' Chara: Six Points In Last 19 Games

News: Zdeno Chara added a power-play goal and an assist in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Yes, he's missed time to injury this season, but there has been a precipitous drop in his game this season. He's about to turn 38, so there's little wonder given the physical edge of his game. But his 17 points, including five goals, in 43 games this season make him a difficult activation right now. He has just six points (two goals, four assists) in his last 19 games.

Bruins' Chara Notches Fourth Goal Of Season

News: Zdeno Chara notched a goal in a team-high 26:43 worth of ice time in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Flames.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara, who had gone five games without a point prior to Monday's tally, checks in with 14 points in 37 games overall, to go along with a minus-1 rating, all subpar numbers for the veteran blueliner.

Bruins' Chara Assists In Win

News: Zdeno Chara gathered an assist, four blocks, and three shot attempts in Thursday's win over the Islanders.
Analysis: With a modest 11 points in 29 games this season, it's worth wondering if Zdeno Chara's days as a top-notch fantasy blueliner might be over. He was able to table such talk last season by riding a strong second half to a runner-up finish in the Norris Trophy balloting, and his owners will surely be looking for a similar turnaround again. Now 37 years old, it's unclear if Chara has much high-level offensive game left in him. The assist Thursday was his first point in six games.

Bruins' Chara Notches Two Helpers

News: Zdeno Chara recorded two assists in a team-high 26:45 worth of ice time in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara, who saw 4:01 worth of power play time in the game, is slowly rounding into form after a lengthy absence caused by a knee injury. With that in mind, the big blueliner figures to enjoy an increased rate of production as the season rolls along. To date, Chara has recorded 11 points in 24 games.

Bruins' Chara Tallies On Wednesday

News: Zdeno Chara, who led the Bruins with 24:30 worth of ice time, scored a goal in Wednesday's overtime win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Per ESPN.com, Zdeno Chara, who had previously gone four straight games without a point, acknowledged earlier this week that he's still not 100 percent back from the knee injury that cost him 19 games before his return to action on Dec. 11. That said, assuming no setbacks, we'd expect the big blueliner to continue to shake the rust off, with improved production in the second half of the season a reasonable expectation.

Bruins' Chara Adds Two Helpers

News: Zdeno Chara dished out a pair of assists in 27:24 worth of ice time in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara now has four points in six contests since returning from a knee injury that held him out for over a month. The 37-year-old has seven points now in 15 games, and will lead the way in minutes most nights on the blue line.

Bruins' Chara Notches Assist

News: Zdeno Chara recorded an assist in 24:13 worth of ice time in Wednesday's win over Minnesota.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara, who has two helpers in four games since returning from a knee injury, continues to shake off the rust; as long as he can avoid further injury setbacks, the big blueliner is destined to continue to log heavy minutes for the Bruins in all situations.

Bruins' Chara Resumes Usual Role

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) got back in the lineup Thursday, recording one shot and four penalty minutes over 24:11 of ice time in a loss to Chicago.
Analysis: The Bruins' hope was that Zdeno Chara's return after a month-and-a-half-long layoff would boost their defense, and it did, but they still ended up on the losing side of things. Nonetheless, it's good to see Chara jump right back into skating his usual heavy minutes.

Bruins Activate Chara

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) has been activated from injured reserve, signaling he'll be back in the lineup Thursday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: This much was expected after Zdeno Chara practiced fully the previous two days and took part in Thursday's morning skate without any complications. The Bruins actually cobbled together a better record without Chara than when he was with the team earlier this season, but make no mistake -- the team is more than happy to welcome back their captain into the fold for the first time since Oct. 23. The blueliner had three points in nine games before suffering the PCL tear in his left knee.

Bruins' Chara Poised To Return

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) appears to be on track to return to action Thursday against Chicago, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Though Zdeno Chara's official status for Thursday's game may not be clarified until closer to faceoff time, it looks like the blueliner will probably be a go for the contest after practicing both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bruins' Chara Nears Return

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) practiced again Wednesday.
Analysis: Per the Bruins' official site coach Claude Julien is optimistic that Zdeno Chara will return to the lineup Thursday against Chicago. The captain has sat out the team's last 19 games after suffering a knee injury on Oct. 23, but barring a setback, it looks like Chara will be back in action on Thursday.

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) practiced fully with the Bruins on Tuesday.
Analysis: Per Joe Haggerty of csnne.com, coach Claude Julien indicated Tuesday that he's "optimistic" about Zdeno Chara's chances of playing Thursday against Chicago. The blueliner, who last suited up for the Bruins on Oct. 23, recorded three points in nine games prior to sustaining his knee injury.

Bruins' Chara Making Progress

News: Zdeno Chara (knee), who has been skating for about the last two weeks, per the Boston Herald, is reportedly doing well.
Analysis: That said, it's unclear how close to a return to action the blueliner is at this stage, but we should know more on that front as the Bruins' upcoming practice slate unfolds in advance of Thursday's home game against Chicago.
