Bruins' Chara Notches Fourth Goal Of Season

News: Zdeno Chara notched a goal in a team-high 26:43 worth of ice time in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Flames.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara, who had gone five games without a point prior to Monday's tally, checks in with 14 points in 37 games overall, to go along with a minus-1 rating, all subpar numbers for the veteran blueliner.

Bruins' Chara Assists In Win

News: Zdeno Chara gathered an assist, four blocks, and three shot attempts in Thursday's win over the Islanders.
Analysis: With a modest 11 points in 29 games this season, it's worth wondering if Zdeno Chara's days as a top-notch fantasy blueliner might be over. He was able to table such talk last season by riding a strong second half to a runner-up finish in the Norris Trophy balloting, and his owners will surely be looking for a similar turnaround again. Now 37 years old, it's unclear if Chara has much high-level offensive game left in him. The assist Thursday was his first point in six games.

Bruins' Chara Notches Two Helpers

News: Zdeno Chara recorded two assists in a team-high 26:45 worth of ice time in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara, who saw 4:01 worth of power play time in the game, is slowly rounding into form after a lengthy absence caused by a knee injury. With that in mind, the big blueliner figures to enjoy an increased rate of production as the season rolls along. To date, Chara has recorded 11 points in 24 games.

Bruins' Chara Tallies On Wednesday

News: Zdeno Chara, who led the Bruins with 24:30 worth of ice time, scored a goal in Wednesday's overtime win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Per ESPN.com, Zdeno Chara, who had previously gone four straight games without a point, acknowledged earlier this week that he's still not 100 percent back from the knee injury that cost him 19 games before his return to action on Dec. 11. That said, assuming no setbacks, we'd expect the big blueliner to continue to shake the rust off, with improved production in the second half of the season a reasonable expectation.

Bruins' Chara Adds Two Helpers

News: Zdeno Chara dished out a pair of assists in 27:24 worth of ice time in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara now has four points in six contests since returning from a knee injury that held him out for over a month. The 37-year-old has seven points now in 15 games, and will lead the way in minutes most nights on the blue line.

Bruins' Chara Notches Assist

News: Zdeno Chara recorded an assist in 24:13 worth of ice time in Wednesday's win over Minnesota.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara, who has two helpers in four games since returning from a knee injury, continues to shake off the rust; as long as he can avoid further injury setbacks, the big blueliner is destined to continue to log heavy minutes for the Bruins in all situations.

Bruins' Chara Resumes Usual Role

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) got back in the lineup Thursday, recording one shot and four penalty minutes over 24:11 of ice time in a loss to Chicago.
Analysis: The Bruins' hope was that Zdeno Chara's return after a month-and-a-half-long layoff would boost their defense, and it did, but they still ended up on the losing side of things. Nonetheless, it's good to see Chara jump right back into skating his usual heavy minutes.

Bruins Activate Chara

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) has been activated from injured reserve, signaling he'll be back in the lineup Thursday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: This much was expected after Zdeno Chara practiced fully the previous two days and took part in Thursday's morning skate without any complications. The Bruins actually cobbled together a better record without Chara than when he was with the team earlier this season, but make no mistake -- the team is more than happy to welcome back their captain into the fold for the first time since Oct. 23. The blueliner had three points in nine games before suffering the PCL tear in his left knee.

Bruins' Chara Poised To Return

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) appears to be on track to return to action Thursday against Chicago, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Though Zdeno Chara's official status for Thursday's game may not be clarified until closer to faceoff time, it looks like the blueliner will probably be a go for the contest after practicing both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bruins' Chara Nears Return

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) practiced again Wednesday.
Analysis: Per the Bruins' official site coach Claude Julien is optimistic that Zdeno Chara will return to the lineup Thursday against Chicago. The captain has sat out the team's last 19 games after suffering a knee injury on Oct. 23, but barring a setback, it looks like Chara will be back in action on Thursday.

Bruins' Chara Nears Return

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) practiced fully with the Bruins on Tuesday.
Analysis: Per Joe Haggerty of csnne.com, coach Claude Julien indicated Tuesday that he's "optimistic" about Zdeno Chara's chances of playing Thursday against Chicago. The blueliner, who last suited up for the Bruins on Oct. 23, recorded three points in nine games prior to sustaining his knee injury.

Bruins' Chara Making Progress

News: Zdeno Chara (knee), who has been skating for about the last two weeks, per the Boston Herald, is reportedly doing well.
Analysis: That said, it's unclear how close to a return to action the blueliner is at this stage, but we should know more on that front as the Bruins' upcoming practice slate unfolds in advance of Thursday's home game against Chicago.

Bruins' Chara Will Not Travel On Road Trip

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) will not travel on the Bruins' upcoming road trip.
Analysis: The Bruins play four games on the road next week, but with Zdeno Chara staying in Boston, it does not appear he will be able to play in any of them. The Bruins have a few days off following their trip, which could give Chara enough time to be ready for the team's next home game Dec. 11.

Bruins' Chara Progresses

News: GM Peter Chiarelli indicated Monday that he is hopeful that Zdeno Chara (knee) can return to action in 10-to-14 days, nesn.com reports.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara, who suffered a PCL tear in his left knee on Oct. 23, skated Monday, and while a return to action is not imminent for the blueliner, he is clearly progressing. "Usually, when they start skating, it's at the earliest at 10 days (and) at the latest two weeks when he's been out that long," Chiarelli noted Monday. "I haven't been given a timetable. We just have to see how he progresses from day to day. But I think you can probably say 10 days to two weeks."

Bruins' Chara Skates

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) skated Monday morning, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: While the report suggests that Zdeno Chara wasn't skating all-out, it notes that the blueliner "didn't appear to be laboring at all in his stride." While this is a clear sign of progress for Chara, there's still no concrete timetable for his return to action from the posterior cruciate ligament tear that he sustained on Oct. 23.

Bruins' Chara Still Sidelined

News: Zdeno Chara (left knee) acknowledged Tuesday that a timetable for his return to action has yet to be established, the Bruins' official site reports. "There is not a timeline right now. I wish I could tell you guys exactly when I'm going to return," Chara noted. "But at this point, it's really such a slow process, that who knows when the day is going to be."
Analysis: After Zdeno Chara suffered a tear in his left PCL on October 23, GM Peter Chiarelli presented an initial four-to-six week estimate, while relaying at the time that there were no plans for the blueliner to undergo surgery. With Chara (who was spotted stickhandling and passing the puck in the hallway on Tuesday) still not ready to return to the ice, and fellow blueliners Kevan Miller and Torey Krug also injured, the Bruins have turned to AHL recalls Joe Morrow, David Warsofsky and Zach Trotman to fill in for the time being.

Bruins' Chara Remains Without Return Timetable

News: A timetable for Zdeno Chara (knee) to return to action has yet to be established, Amalie Benjamin of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara was able to skate lightly Tuesday, but he will still need two-to-four weeks to recover from his knee injury. The timeline should become clearer over the next week or so.

Bruins Place Chara On IR

News: Zdeno Chara (knee) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
Analysis: The move comes as little surprise after Zdeno Chara was ruled out four-to-six weeks after suffering a PCL tear in his left knee Thursday night. Zach Trotman and Joe Morrow were recalled from AHL Providence in corresponding moves to give the Bruins some replacement options on the blue line.

Bruins' Chara Not Likely To Need Surgery

News: Per GM Peter Chiarelli, surgery is not considered a likely option for Zdeno Chara, who sustained a tear in the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Thursday's game against the Islanders, the Bruins' official site reports.
Analysis: While Chiarelli fell short of declaring that surgery has been 100 percent ruled out, at this stage it does not seem a likely outcome for Zdeno Chara, who the report confirms will be out 4-6 weeks. In the absence of Chara, at Friday's practice, the Bruins' top two defensive pairings appeared to be Dennis Seidenberg/Dougie Hamilton and Torey Krug/Adam McQuaid.

Bruins Confirm PCL Tear For Chara

News: The Bruins confirmed Friday that Zdeno Chara suffered a PCL tear in his left knee Thursday against the Islanders, Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com reports. Chara will miss four-to-six weeks and will not require surgery.
Analysis: Friday's update verifies the initial recovery timetable indicated a day earlier for Zdeno Chara, who left the game against the Islanders after colliding with John Tavares midway through the first period. The absence of Chara is a devastating hit to a team that had been struggling defensively through the first three weeks of the season. The Bruins recalled Zach Trotman and Joe Morrow from AHL Providence on Friday to add some depth to the blue line in the interim.

Bruins' Chara Expected To Miss 4-6 Weeks

News: Zdeno Chara is dealing with a knee ligament injury and is expected to miss at least fourto-six weeks, Aaron Ward of TSN reports.
Analysis: It's yet to be determined whether he'll need to undergo surgery, which could sideline him for even longer. The Bruins have been off to a slow start this season, and losing their captain for an extended period of time just when they seemed to be turning the corner won't help. The team will probably add a defenseman from the AHL before Saturday's game.

Bruins' Chara Leaves Thursday, Won't Return

News: Zdeno Chara left Thursday's game in the first period and won't return.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara's injury is undisclosed at this point, but it's at least serious enough for him to sit for the remainder of the game. The Bruins next play Saturday, so Chara's status should become clearer sometime Friday.

Bruins' Chara Leaves With Injury

News: Zdeno Chara left Thursday's game against the Islanders in the first period, after he laid a hard hit on John Tavares, Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com reports.
Analysis: It's usually the opponent that comes away sore following a check from the big-bodied Zdeno Chara, but the defenseman seemed to be worse off after this particular collision. He didn't return for the remainder of the first period after suffering the injury, but the Bruins haven't officially ruled him out from returning. Stay tuned for a further update on his condition.

Boston's Chara Gets Goals In Back-To-Back Games

News: Zdeno Chara recorded his second goal of the season in Saturday's win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara opened the new campaign with five straight games without a point, but he's since bagged a goal in each of the last two games. He turned in his most active performance of the young season Saturday, attempting a team-high seven shots, blocking three more on defense, and finishing with a plus-2 rating over his 29 shifts.

Bruins' Chara Scores, But Finishes Minus-3 In Loss

News: Zdeno Chara scored his first goal of the season Thursday against the Canadiens, but finished minus-3 in the defeat.
Analysis: Though Zdeno Chara has put up a decent amount of shots (19) through six games, the Bruins' collective offensive nosedive has denied the blueliner of opportunities to pick up any assists. Chara got off to a similarly slow start to the 2013-14 season before the Bruins offense heated up, and his fantasy owners can only hope that narrative repeats itself again.
