Dumont Headed To Swiss League?

News: J.P. Dumont has an agreement with Bern of the Swiss League and will play there barring an offer from an NHL club before Tuesday, Darren Dreger of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Given that there hasn't been interest in him prior to now, there's little reason to think that he won't be heading to Europe next week.

Predators Buy Out Dumont

News: The Predators have bought out the final year of Dumont's contract, costing the team $1.66 million in the next two seasons, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: This will make Dumont an unrestricted free agent on July 1, when he will be able to field offers from any NHL club. Of course, this is not exactly the best time for Dumont to be on the free agency market. The winger had one of his worst seasons as a pro in 2010-11, as he tallied just 19 points (10 G, 9 A) in 70 games, making it the third consecutive season in which his point totals have dropped. But then again, he could be a bargain for teams looking for a veteran forward.

Preds' Dumont Might Play Game 5

News: Dumont could dress for Game 5 on Friday against the Ducks, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Dumont, who sat out the first four games of the series as a healthy scratch, could suit up as an injury replacement for Martin Erat, who is day-to-day after suffering an upper-body injury in Game 4. With just 19 regular-season points this year, Dumont's offensive abilities have been in obvious decline over the past few seasons and he should not be counted on for fantasy purposes outside of very deep leagues.

Benching Likely To Continue For Preds' Dumont

News: Dumont will likely be a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the Flames, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: This will mark the fourth consecutive game Dumont has watched from the press box. "[Dumont]'s been a really good pro," said coach Barry Trotz. "I try to talk to him a little bit. He knows the situation game by game and he's probably not happy with the decision, and I understand that. He's a proud guy and a terrific guy with our team and he's involved in the community. Those are always tough decisions." If the current trend continues, don't expect a whole lot of fantasy production out of Dumont between now and the end of the season.

Preds' Dumont Out Thursday?

News: Dumont was not on the ice for Thursday's pregame warmups, Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Presumably, he'll miss Thursday's game with the Canucks, although it is unclear if he's a healthy scratch, or if there's actually an injury in play here.

Preds' Dumont Benched Sunday Versus Blue Jackets

News: Dumont was a healthy scratch Sunday against Columbus, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: The writing was clearly on the wall for Dumont, who saw just 5:23 of ice time Saturday against Dallas, and had gone scoreless in 13 games prior to the benching. "I just felt that I needed a little more bump in there, I needed a little more speed to get to those loose pucks and get some forecheck," coach Barry Trotz said following Sunday's game. "That was it more than anything." Having said that, this is not the first time Dumont has been benched this season. His best days are clearly behind him as he has just 17 points (9G, 8A) in 60 games so far this season. Feel free to drop him if you haven't already.

Dumont Benched By Preds

News: Dumont was a healthy scratch Tuesday against San Jose, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Coach Barry Trotz said it was a "coach's decision" and that there was no underlying reason for the move. However, with the recent acquisition of Mike Fisher from Ottawa and the return of previously injured forwards Marcel Goc and Marek Svatos to the lineup, Dumont wound up being the odd man out. His stock has been on the decline in Nashville for the past two seasons, and he represents a real fantasy liability if he's somehow still on your roster. Dump him.

Preds' Dumont Back From Neck Injury

News: Dumont (neck) returned to the lineup Wednesday against Vancouver. He saw 9:20 of ice time with one shot on goal, but did not hit the scoresheet.
Analysis: Dumont's role with the Preds has really diminished over the last couple of seasons, with his average ice time falling from 17:27 in 2008-09 to 12:14 currently. Furthermore, his point totals have been in a steady decline over the last four seasons, from 72 in 2007-08 to 45 last season, and he's on pace for about 30 this year. These days, Dumont fills a checking-line role most nights, which seriously limits his fantasy value in standard formats.

Predators' Dumont Could Return Wednesday

News: Head coach Barry Trotz expects Dumont (neck) to be available for Wednesday's game against the Canucks, Josh Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Wednesday's game will be the Predators' last before the break, so there's no guarantee Dumont suits up unless he is 100 percent. A decision on Dumont's status will likely be made right before the puck drops.

Preds' Dumont Dealing With Neck Injury

News: Dumont (neck) will not play Monday against the Flames, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: No word yet on what Dumont's chances of playing Wednesday against the Canucks are, so consider him day-to-day.

Preds' Dumont Has Hat Trick In Victory

News: Dumont had a hat trick in Tuesday's win over Phoenix.
Analysis: Don't look now, but Dumont now has five goals in his last two games. Sadly, he had just four goals in his first 45 games. It's still at the point where he doesn't offer much fantasy value, even in the deepest of leagues.

Two Goals For Predators' Dumont

News: Dumont scored twice in a losing effort against the Blackhawks on Sunday.
Analysis: Dumont has a mere six goals on the season and hadn't lit the lamp in the nine games prior to this contest. Clearly, he is not the J.P. Dumont of old this season.

Nashville’s Dumont Scores Game-Winning Goal

News: Dumont scored on an unassisted effort midway through the final frame to lift his team to a 3-2 win Wednesday over host Detroit.
Analysis: Dumont's fourth of the year came on a wrister from the circle to beat Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard. The Predators have won four of their last five games, but the scoring is scattered evenly among the forwards. You could do worse and you could do better.

Preds' Dumont Sputtering

News: After starting the season with four points in four games (1G, 3A), Dumont has since gone on to record just one assist over his next nine contests.
Analysis: Any thoughts you had about Dumont reviving his career this year should quickly be reality-checked. He's currently playing on the Preds' third line with Marcel Goc and Jordin Tootoo, averaging just 12:53 per game - less than the 14:32 he skated last season - with only about two minutes per game on the power play. Coach Barry Trotz publicly called Dumont out last season before slashing his ice time, and it appears he's giving the once-talented winger even less of a role this year. Dumont should not be on anyone's fantasy roster at the moment.

Preds' Dumont Starts Sunday Following Saturday's Injury

News: Dumont, who left Saturday night's game with a lower-body injury, was in the lineup Sunday and added an assist.
Analysis: Dumont now has five points (1G, 4A) in eight games and should be considered for the bench in shallow leagues and rostered in deeper leagues.

Preds' Dumont Sustains Lower-Body Injury Saturday

News: Dumont left Saturday's game against Dallas with an injury to his lower body. Head coach Barry Trotz is calling him day-to-day, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Dumont is one of the Predators' top offensive contributors, so his situation is worth monitoring. Meanwhile, as we learn more about his status, look for Nashville right wingers like Patric Hornqvist and Joel Ward to try and step up in case Dumont is unable to go Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Dumont dropped to fourth line?

News: The Tennessean reports that Predators RW J.P. Dumont, who has no goals and two assists in his last seven games, practiced on the fourth line Wednesday.
Analysis: Dumont has 33 points in 47 games, which puts him on pace for 48 points. Unfortunately, if he ends up being demoted to the fourth line, he isn't likely to see enough of the ice to get into the high 40s. He remains worth stashing in most leagues, but should only be starting in deeper formats.

Dumont active despite illness

News: Predators RW J.P. Dumont was active on Monday against the Maple Leafs after missing Sunday's practice with an illness. He tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 in 15:31 of ice time. He has two goals and four assists in his last six games.
Analysis: Dumont is starting to heat up here and that's great news for Fantasy owners. He has been kind of displaced since being bumped off the top line in favor of Martin Erat. But we knew Dumont wouldn't stay down forever. He has the ability to be a nice Fantasy start down the stretch.

Dumont a little under the weather

News: The Tennessean reports that Predators RW J.P. Dumont missed practice on Sunday due to illness and is questionable for Monday's game vs. Toronto.
Analysis: We might get a further update on Dumont's status before Monday's lineup deadline, so be sure to check back before setting your lineups for Fantasy Week 16 (Jan. 18-24). He has been playing some nice hockey lately and would definitely be worth a look in larger formats as a low-end starting forward for the scoring period, if he's healthy.

Dumont has five points in last four

News: Predators RW J.P. Dumont scored a goal, tallied an assist and finished at plus-2 on Tuesday against the Oilers. A shot by Jones went wide but was picked up behind the net and hooked in by Dumont as Jeff Deslauriers got tripped up in his own skates and couldn't get over. Dumont has two goals and three assists in his last four games.
Analysis: Dumont finally seems to be getting back on track after hitting the skids in November and December. He is adjusting to life off the top line and finding ways to produce. Dumont has the chance to be a real second-half Fantasy sleeper.

Dumont has timely short-handed score

News: J.P. Dumont's first short-handed goal in the regular season came at the perfect time for the Nashville Predators. The Carolina Hurricanes led by a goal and had a power play in the first period when Francis Bouillon pulled the puck out of the crease from behind Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne. Bouillon passed it to Alexander Sulzer, who moved it to Dumont for a 2-on-1 rush before scoring. The Panthers rallied and beat Carolina 4-2 on Thursday. "The short-handed goal was just huge for us," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "We were sort of fighting an uphill battle. That gave us some jump." Dumont gave the credit to Rinne. "It was just a big play from the start with a big save by Pekka. It was a big play," Dumont said.
Analysis: We have been really disappointed with Dumont's production after he opened the season with 11 points in nine October games. He has just 17 points in his last 28 games. Not bad production, but we definitely expect a lot more from him. It probably has a lot to do with Dumont being moved off the top line in favor of Martin Erat. Dumont should probably be taken down a notch in Fantasy until he gets back on track.

Dumont scores goal, adds an assist

News: Nashville RW J.P. Dumont had a solid game on Tuesday at St. Louis in a 4-3 win. Dumont's goal came 5:16 into the third period and proved to be the game-winner in the end. The goal was his seventh of the season. He increased his points total to 26 on the season with the performance.
Analysis: Dumont had a decent month of December, with this two-point performance somewhat salvaging the monthly total. He is a decent contributor but Fantasy owners are used to getting more out of him. He is not worth activating in standard formats until he can put points up on a more consistent basis.

Dumont haven't a slow December

News: Predators RW J.P. Dumont scored a goal and finished at plus-2 during Tuesday's game against the Lightning. It was his sixth goal of the season and first in nine games.
Analysis: Dumont has only four points in his first eight December games. He also has only 10 points in his last 18 contests. It's definitely not the production we are used to seeing from Dumont. He has been temporarily bumped off the top line since Martin Erat has been a better fit lately with Steve Sullivan and Jason Arnott. That has a lot to do with his recent slump. We advise against making any drastic decisions with Dumont, but you might consider benching him until he starts to heat up.

Dumont makes up for mistake

News: J.P. Dumont found the perfect way to make up for his giveaway that led to a Florida goal late in the second period. Dumont and David Legwand scored early in the third period, and Dan Ellis made 23 saves to help the Nashville Predators beat the Panthers 4-1 on Saturday night. Dumont made it 2-1 68 seconds into the third period, scoring off a rebound. With goalie Scott Clemmensen down, Dumont kicked the rebound onto his backhand before lifting the puck high to the stick side for his fifth goal of the season. "I knew I had time when I got the rebound," Dumont said. "I knew he was coming across and covering the bottom part of the net, and I just had to take my time. I had the top of the net wide open."
Analysis: Dumont has scored in two of his last three games, but he doesn't an assist in five appearances. It's unusual since he is a very good passer from the wing. We doubt Dumont will be denied assists for much longer, so continue to start him in Fantasy.

Predators' top line clicking

News: The Sports Xchange reports looking for a reason why the Predators have suddenly awakened? Then simply watch what the top line of center Jason Arnott, left wing Steve Sullivan and right wing J.P. Dumont. After not playing together as a unit for the first 15 games of the season because of injuries, the trio has been a force since reforming as a unit. The Predators are 5-0-0 since the line got healthy. Arnott has scored three goals in his last two games. Dumont had one assist against Columbus on Saturday night. He has five assists in his last four games. That accomplishment is a first for a Predators player. Sullivan has a four-game points string and had an assist against Columbus.
Analysis: While the top line is carrying the offensive load, as it should, coach Barry Trotz is continuing to mix and match to get the maximum out of his other lines. Arnott and Dumont have remained high-end Fantasy options, but Sullivan has been disappointing to begin the season. However, now that he is getting on a roll, Fantasy owners might consider taking a flier.
