Oilers' Schultz Bags Game Winner Monday

News: Justin Schultz bagged the game-winning goal in Monday's 4-1 victory over the Avalanche.
Analysis: It's the first game-winner of the season for Justin Schultz, who has only found twine six times on the campaign. While he'll still finish with a career high in assists and is just three points off of last season's mark, Schultz's development seems to have plateaued since his promising rookie year of 2012-13. Much like Tyler Myers has since leaving Buffalo for Winnipeg, Schultz would have a better chance at tapping into his full potential if he was traded to a more competitive squad than the Oilers, a perennial doormat.

Oilers' Schultz Dishes Out Two Helpers

News: Justin Schultz dished out two assists in Friday's loss to Columbus.
Analysis: Justin Schultz now has three assists in his last three games and has four points in his last seven games. While he's averaging 22:18 of ice time, he's been too inconsistent this season to be trusted in most shallow leagues. He's been playing better of late, though, so if the 24-year-old can keep it going, he could be worth a look down the stretch.

Oilers' Schultz Scores Fifth Goal In Loss

News: Justin Schultz scored his fifth goal of the season and recorded a game-high six shots on goal in Saturday's loss to the Blues.
Analysis: It was just his second goal in 28 games and his second point in 12 games. While he averages 22:07 of ice time and plays on the top power-play season, Justin Schultz has been too inconsistent this season to be trusted in shallow leagues. The potential is there, but Schultz might be hard-pressed to even reach 30 points this season.

Oilers' Schultz Exits With Injury

News: Justin Schultz left Friday's contest against the Wild with a facial injury.
Analysis: Justin Schultz suffered the injury after getting hit in the face with a puck. At this point in time the severity of the injury, as well as whether or not Schultz will be able to return to Friday's contest, is unclear. The team should update his status in the coming days.

Two-Point Night For Oilers' Schultz

News: Justin Schultz tallied a goal and assist in Monday's shootout win over the Sharks. He attempted five shots and went plus-3 over his 26:13 of ice time.
Analysis: This marks one of the best games of the season for Justin Schultz, who leads the Oilers' motley collection of defensemen with 21 points. The positive plus-minus on the evening improved his overall mark to minus-4 over his 50 games, a respectable output considering the Oilers own the NHL's second-worst record.

Oilers' Schultz Records Assist In Loss

News: Justin Schultz registered a power-play assist in his 24:08 of ice time Tuesday against the Blues.
Analysis: After seeing his ice time fall below 20 minutes earlier in January, Justin Schultz has been around 24 minutes the last two games, delivering assists on each occasion. It's clear that he offers the most fantasy upside of any Edmonton blueliner, but the 24-year-old remains mostly a disappointment since his strong debut as a rookie. He's on pace for just six goals and 34 points, which would represent the lowest per-game production of his career.

Schultz Pots Lone Goal For Edmonton

News: Justin Schultz scored the Oilers' lone goal in Tuesday's humiliating 5-1 defeat to the Coyotes.
Analysis: Despite the lopsided loss, Justin Schultz avoided any damage to his plus/minus, which probably counts as a silver lining these days for the defenseman. While he possesses the most offensive ability of any of the Oilers' blueliners, Schultz's 14 points in 34 games hardly make him an elite fantasy option, particularly when his value remains dragged down by a minus-7 rating.

Oilers' Schultz Returns To The Lineup

News: Justin Schultz returned to the lineup for the Oilers on Friday, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Justin Schultz has been struggling mightily for most of the season and was a healthy scratch Thursday versus Nashville. Schultz has never been the player most thought he could be since coming to Edmonton which could lead one to ask if it is the player's fault, or the organization's.

Oilers' Schultz A Healthy Scratch Thursday

News: Justin Schultz will be a healthy scratch Thursday against the Predators. "Justin has struggled a little bit as of late and we felt it was best to hit the reset button," coach Dallas Eakins said.
Analysis: Justin Schultz has seen his ice time drop to 16:30 and 15:13 in each of the last two games due to poor performance on his own end, a far cry from the 22 minutes he's averaging for the season. His banishment to the press box is only expected to be a one-game appointment, but it's certainly not a promising sign for the third-year blueliner. Oscar Klefbom will enter the lineup in his place Thursday.

Oilers' Schultz Gets Assist, But Goes Minus-2

News: Justin Schultz gathered a power-play assist in Thursday's loss to the Bruins, but finished the game with a minus-2 rating.
Analysis: Justin Schultz continues to pace the Oilers in defensemen scoring, but the plus/minus rating will always be a drag on his fantasy value. The 24-year-old is already down to a minus-5 rating through his first 13 games, bringing him all the way down to minus-44 over his 135 career NHL games.

Oilers' Schultz Bags Goal In Victory

News: Justin Schultz scored his second goal of the season in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over the Capitals.
Analysis: The 24-year-old has now found the twine in consecutive games, after managing only one point in his first five contests. Justin Schultz is still prone to lapses on his own end -- he let the Caps' Alex Ovechkin glide by him easily in the third period for what was nearly the game-tying score -- but he's far and away the Oilers' top scoring threat from the blue line.

Oilers Sign Schultz To One-Year Deal

News: Justin Schultz signed a one-year, $3.8 million deal with the Oilers on Friday, Ryan Rishaug of TSN reports.
Analysis: The restricted free agent defenseman averaged 23:21 of ice time per game last season, registering 11 goals and 22 assists. His production has still been somewhat disappointing, though, as he hasn't quite shown the consistent offensive game that vaulted him to college stardom. Still, he's been a consistent contributor and should return in a similar role in 2014-15.

Oilers Give Qualifying Offer To Schultz

News: Justin Schultz was one of nine Oilers given a qualifying offer Monday, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Justin Schultz hasn't been quite the offensive dynamo that many predicted when he signed with the team. Still it was a no brainer to give him the QO and possibly work on a long term deal in the interim.

Oilers' Schultz Tallies Two Points

News: Justin Schultz scored the game-winning goal and had an assist against the Ducks on Sunday.
Analysis: Justin Schultz now has 11 goals and 32 points, although he is also a minus-16 on a poor defensive team. However, he is also regularly playing over 20 minutes a game, and he is a key part of this team's defense going forward.

Oilers' Schultz Scores 10th Goal On Friday

News: Justin Schultz scored his 10th goal of the season during the Oilers' 3-2 shootout win over the Coyotes on Friday.
Analysis: The defenseman scored his first goal in nine games and has 30 points over 78 games this season. He does a fair amount of work on the penalty-killing unit, and overall he's not been much for fantasy use this year.

Oilers' Schultz Tallies Two Points

News: Justin Schultz score a game-winning power-play goal and had a helper Sunday against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: This is Justin Schultz's first goal since February 3, and his first multi-point game since January 26. He has 27 points in 61 games on the season.

Oilers To Offer Schultz Contract After Deadline

News: The Oilers plan to offer Justin Schultz an extension after the trade deadline, according to the team's official site.
Analysis: Justin Schultz can be a restricted free agent after this season. The Oilers need to hold onto their good defensemen, as the blue line is one of their biggest weaknesses. Schultz should only get better as he gains more experience, but he has yet to live up to his vast potential.

Oilers' Schultz Notches Two Points

News: Justin Schultz scored a goal and had an assist against the Predators on Sunday.
Analysis: Justin Schultz is playing at relatively the same rate as he did last season. That means while he does have six goals and 22 points, which is pretty good for a defenseman, he is also a whopping minus-17.

Oilers' Schultz Starting To Heat Up

News: Justin Schultz potted his fifth goal of the season in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Stars.
Analysis: The Oilers' porous defense still has Justin Schultz's plus-minus rating at minus-16 for the season, but the blueliner is beginning to break out after a slow start to the season. He's delivered a goal and three assists over his last three contests, with two of the helpers coming on the power play. Schultz has a high ceiling offensively and has the ability to finish the second half of the season on a productive note.

Oilers' Schultz Scores In Return

News: Making his return from a groin injury, Justin Schultz skated 20:35, scored an even-strength goal and went plus-2 in a blowout win over Columbus.
Analysis: Justin Schultz missed eight contests with the ailment, but it looks like he's feeling all better now. Though his stats have been pretty middling out of the gate, largely thanks to a minus-8 rating, he's got all-world upside offensively and should continue to pick up points at a decent pace all year long.

Oilers' Schultz To Play Tuesday

News: Justin Schultz (groin) is expected to return to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets, the Oilers radio analyst Bob Stauffer reports.
Analysis: Justin Schultz has been out of the lineup for eight games with the groin injury. He was targeting a return Tuesday, and after a successful skate with the team, he is expected to take the ice against the Blue Jackets.

Oilers' Schultz Hoping To Return Tuesday

News: Justin Schultz (groin) is hoping to return to the Edmonton lineup Tuesday, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Justin Schultz is on the IR and will miss his eighth game Saturday. Originally he was considered day-to-day, but the groin has been slow to respond to treatment. We have heard before about his impending return, so fantasy owners should make sure they have other options in case once again he isn't good to go next week.

Oilers' Schultz Resumes Skating Tuesday

News: Justin Schultz (groin) skated with the team Tuesday, NHL.com's Ryan Dittrick reports.
Analysis: Justin Schultz hasn't skated with the team since suffering the injury two weeks ago, so fantasy owners should take Tuesday's activities as a sign of progress. The 23-year-old has followed up his All-Rookie campaign with a steady seven points in 14 games, but a horrendous minus-10 rating has limited his impact.

Oilers' Schultz Skates On Own Friday

News: Justin Schultz (groin) skated on his own before the rest of the team's practice Friday.
Analysis: It marks Justin Schultz's first on-ice work since the middle of last week. He's still considered doubtful to play this weekend, but if he can ramp up his activities in the coming days, he should be a full-go by next week.

Oilers' Schultz Doubtful For Weekend

News: Justin Schultz (groin) is doubtful to play in the Oilers' weekend contests against the Flyers and Blackhawks, the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Justin Schultz was already ruled out for Thursday's game a few days ago and has yet to resume skating. The defenseman hasn't played since Oct. 29 and was placed on injured reserve to create some roster flexibility.
