Panthers Will Buy Out Kuba

News: Filip Kuba's contract will be bought out by the Panthers, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: McKenzie notes that the move is not a compliance buyout, so the buyout dollars will count against the Panthers' salary cap. In any case, the 36-year-old defenseman, who recorded 10 points in 44 games with the Panthers this past season, is set to become an unrestricted free agent. He figures to catch on with with another team looking to add some veteran blue line depth, though his best fantasy days are probably behind him.

Panthers' Kuba Back In Mix

News: Filip Kuba saw 18:24 worth of ice time in Sunday's loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: Filip Kuba -- who recorded a plus-26 mark with Ottawa last season -- is minus-4 in two games back since returning from a lower-body injury, to bring his season mark to minus-21 to go along with eight points and 20 PIMs in in 41 games.

Panthers' Kuba Out Thursday

News: Filip Kuba (lower body) will miss Thursday's game against the Rangers, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Filip Kuba did not practice Wednesday, so he is unable to go Thursday. Until Kuba is able to practice alongside the rest of the team, he will remain sidelined with his lower-body ailment.

Panthers' Kuba Misses Practice

News: Filip Kuba (lower body) missed practice Wednesday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: There's no word yet on the blueliner's status for Thursday's game against the Rangers, so keep an eye on whether he participates in the team's morning skate before the game.

Panthers' Kuba Makes Road Trip

News: Filip Kuba (lower body) did not practice Sunday but will be joining the Panthers on their four-game road trip, the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Harvey Fialkov reports.
Analysis: It looks like Filip Kuba should be game-ready in the near future. There is no set timetable but the injury doesn't seem too serious and it's a good sign that he made the trip.

Panthers' Kuba Snipes First Since March 2012

News: Filip Kuba scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's loss to the Hurricanes. It's his first goal since March 16, 2012.
Analysis: He's been a declining asset for a few years now and this year has been particularly difficult for the player who once sniped 15 goals in a single season. He's no longer a fantasy factor.

Panthers' Kuba Returns

News: Filip Kuba (upper body) will play against the Sabres on Thursday, the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Harvey Fialkov reports.
Analysis: Filip Kuba, who returns after missing the last two games, has three assists in 17 games to go along with a less-than-stellar minus-10 rating.

Panthers' Kuba A Healthy Scratch Sunday

News: Filip Kuba will not play Sunday against the Bruins, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The 36-year-old defenseman has averaged close to 20 minutes in 10 games so far in February, but he'll get what looks like a breather Sunday.

Panthers' Kuba Dinged Up

News: Filip Kuba is dealing with an upper body injury, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: With Filip Kuba banged up, the Panthers bolstered their blue line depth by recalling Colby Robak from AHL San Antonio.

Panthers' Kuba Paired With Campbell During Training Camp

News: Filip Kuba has been paired with Brian Campbell on defense during training camp, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: With Jason Garrison heading to Vancouver in the offseason, Filip Kuba will have big shoes to fill in his first season in South Florida, though his plus-26 and 32 points with Ottawa last season suggests he'll be up to the task. Perhaps the more significant point worth considering is if Kuba can raise the game of Campbell, especially after Kuba aided defense mate Erik Karlsson to a 78-point season and the Norris Trophy.

Kuba Heads To Florida

News: Filip Kuba has signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Panthers, reports TSN.ca.
Analysis: He tallied 32 points, including 11 on the power play, in 73 games in Ottawa last season. Expect him to slot into Jason Garrison's role on the PP if the latter doesn't return to Florida. If so, consider his fantasy value a tick higher than it would have been for a 35-year-old defender in Ottawa.

Sens' Kuba Unlikley To Be Back With Team Next Season

News: Filip Kuba is unlikely to return to the Senators next season, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Senators GM Bryan Murray said Tuesday regarding Filip Kuba, "I think we're moving on." The 35-year-old recording 32 points (6G, 26A) and a plus-26 ratio in 73 games for Ottawa this season, but Murray reportedly plans on bringing in a different veteran defenseman next year. It's uncertain what the market will be for Kuba, but he'll likely sign on with another team.

Sens' Kuba Scores Game Winner In OT Friday Night

News: Filip Kuba scored his sixth goal of the season Friday night as Ottawa came from behind to beat Montreal 2-1 in overtime.
Analysis: He had a strong night fantasy-wise, finishing with a plus-2 rating and three shots on goal in just over 25 minutes of icetime. Filip Kuba now leads the surprising Senators in plus-minus with a plus-24 rating.

Kuba Contributes For Sens

News: Filip Kuba grabbed two assists in Tuesday's loss to Boston, giving him four points in the last six games.
Analysis: Filip Kuba is well down the depth chart on the Ottawa blue line considering the play they are receiving from Sergei Gonchar and Erik Karlsson. Kuba can be worth a look in deeper leagues that rewards plus-minus; he has 18 points on the season.

Sens' Kuba Gets Lone Ottawa Goal In Loss Friday

News: Filip Kuba notched his third goal of the season Friday night as the Senators dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the Hurricanes. It was his first goal since October 22.
Analysis: He's having a solid season with nine points and a plus-7 rating while averaging just over 22 minutes of ice time per game. While Filip Kuba's not going to get a lot of points (he only sees 1:07 of power play time per game), he may be helpful if your fantasy team needs a short-term solution at defense.

Senators' Kuba To Return Tuesday

News: Filip Kuba (shoulder) will return to the lineup Tuesday night, the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Filip Kuba will be back on the ice after missing the last nine games with the injury. Kuba recorded eight points (2G, 6A) in his first 24 games of the season, so despite the absence, he is still well on his way to topping last year's disappointing total of just 16 points.

Ottawa's Kuba Expected Back Tuesday

News: Filip Kuba (shoulder) is expected to play against Buffalo on Tuesday, James Gordon of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Filip Kuba has been useful in some formats this year, averaging a point every three games (two goals and six assists in 24 games) while skating to a plus-3 rating. Those who can use him can expect to make him active Tuesday.

Senators' Kuba Skates Saturday, May Return Tuesday

News: Filip Kuba (shoulder) was on the ice for a one hour morning skate Saturday according to the Ottawa Sun.
Analysis: What was thought to be a three-to-four week recovery time for Filip Kuba's shoulder may only take two. Coach Paul MacLean said that he hopes to have Kuba back by Tuesday's matchup with the Sabres, but won't make any determination until after Monday's practice.

Senators' Kuba Could Make Early Return

News: Head coach Paul MacLean is hopeful that Filip Kuba could return to action Tuesday which is an indication his shoulder is healing much quicker than expected.
Analysis: Filip Kuba was expected to miss three or four weeks after being placed on injured reserve last week, but apparently he could be back on the ice in as little as two. If Kuba is unable to play Tuesday, he could miss a few more games with two others on the schedule in the three days after.

Sens Place Kuba On IR

News: Filip Kuba (shoulder) will be out of action for approximately three to four weeks reports the Ottawa Citizen.
Analysis: He's missed Ottawa's last three games with the injury, but the good news is that it doesn't require surgery. Filip Kuba's having a nice bounceback year with two goals, six assists, and a plus-3 rating in 24 games. He'll be especially missed on the penalty kill for the suprising Senators.

Sens' Kuba To Miss Thursday's Game

News: Filip Kuba (upper body) will not suit up for Ottawa's game against Dallas on Thursday night reports the Ottawa Sun.
Analysis: He's having a strong bounceback season, averaging over 22 minutes of icetime per game, and is playing in all situations. There's no word yet on the severity of his injury, which he suffered in Ottawa's previous game againt the Jets. Brian Lee will draw in to the lineup in place of Filip Kuba.

Sens' Kuba Sustains Upper Body Injury

News: Filip Kuba suffered an upper body injury which forced him out of Tuesday night's game, Ian Mendes of Rogers Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Consider Filip Kuba day-to-day for now. He only has eight pointso n the season so far, so his fantasy usefulness is minimal.

Senators' Kuba Sets Up Three Scores

News: Filip Kuba handed out three assists in Saturday's victory over the Rangers.
Analysis: Filip Kuba entered the game with just two points, so Saturday's output was certainly unexpected. Kuba remains only a marginal fantasy option.

Senators' Kuba Healthy Scratch Tuesday

News: Kuba will sit out Tuesday's game against the Sabres, The Montreal Gazette reports.

Sens' Kuba To Return To Lineup Saturday

News: Kuba will return to action Saturday night against the Leafs after being a healthy scratch Friday against Columbus reports Sportsnet's Ian Mendes.
Analysis: He's played poorly both offensively and defensively after returning from a broken ankle in November. There is no indication that his play will change anytime soon so take a pass on Kuba if you're looking for help on your blue line. There are much better options available.
