Panthers' Luongo Gets Day Off Against Devils

News: Roberto Luongo will get the day off for the final game of the season on Saturday against the Devils, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo capped off his season with an impressive 34 save performance on Thursday against the Bruins to potentially play spoiler for them. He ends the season with a 28-19-12 record, a 2.35 GAA and a .921 save percentage. As the Panthers continue to improve, if Luongo's numbers stay at this level, he will find himself coming into more wins andwill be an even stronger fantasy option.

Luongo, Panthers Play Spoiler Against Boston

News: Roberto Luongo made 34 saves on 36 shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over Boston.
Analysis: The Panthers have been eliminated, but they were able to play spoiler in this one, dealing the Bruins a playoff-hopes-crippling loss. Al Montoya might draw the start in the Panthers' last game of the year Saturday, which would mean that Roberto Luongo ended his up-and-down 2014-15 campaign on a high note with this outing.

Panthers' Luongo To Draw Start Thursday

News: Roberto Luongo will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Bruins, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: It could be Roberto Luongo's final start of the season, as backup goalie Al Montoya (groin) is working his way back from a one-month absence and could be rewarded with the nod for the finale Saturday versus the Devils. With the Panthers officially eliminated from the playoffs, it would make sense for the team to rest Luongo after he logged his largest workload since the 2009-10 campaign. The goalie has delivered a strong season in his return to South Florida, producing a 27-19-12 mark and 2.35 GAA over 60 outings to date.

Panthers' Luongo Makes 19 Saves In Loss

News: Roberto Luongo made 19 saves in a 4-0 loss to the Lightning on Saturday night.
Analysis: The Panthers face the Habs, Bruins and Devils before season's end, but their playoff hopes have been all but dashed. Bobby Lou might rested if they kitties are out. But he'll likely be in the blue paint if the team has any chance of getting to the postseason.

Panthers' Luongo To Make A Turn Saturday

News: Roberto Luongo will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Lightning, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The Panthers remain six points behind the Bruins for the final wild-card spot, so expect the team to stick with Roberto Luongo for Sunday's game against the Habs as well. Luongo sturdy numbers (27-18-12, 2.32 GAA, and .922 save percentage) are a primary reason the Panthers find themselves in playoff contention this late in the season, and they'll need the netminder to come up huge over the next week to even have a shot at staying in the race. He'll face a tough test Saturday against the league's highest-scoring attack.

Luongo, Panthers Cruise By Carolina

News: Roberto Luongo gave up just one goal on 32 shots Thursday in a 6-1 rout of the Hurricanes.
Analysis: This was a crucial win for the Panthers as they try desperately to fight their way into the playoffs, but they're just barely staving off elimination at this point and need to leapfrog two hot, talented teams in Boston and Ottawa. So it's probably not happening for them this year, but Roberto Luongo's got to like the potential he sees in front of him, as the Panthers' skaters have come a long way and offer much promise for the future.

Panthers' Luongo Gets Thursday Start

News: Roberto Luongo is slated to start Thursday's home game against the Hurricanes, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: With the Panthers battling to stay in the NHL playoff hunt, Roberto Luongo, who gave up three goals on 29 shots in Tuesday's loss to Boston, will take aim Thursday at a Carolina squad that is out of postseason contention and dropped two straight contests to end the month of March.

Panthers' Luongo Stuck With Ill-Timed Loss

News: Roberto Luongo gave up three goals on 29 shots in Tuesday's loss to Boston.
Analysis: With this loss, which featured a blown third-period lead and a late game-winning goal by Milan Lucic, Florida's playoff hopes are pretty much dashed. The Panthers are now six points out of a playoff spot with five games remaining in the season, so they'd need a miracle to keep playing past mid-April. Roberto Luongo valiantly played through a shoulder ailment Tuesday, but at least one of the goals he gave up was a softie. At least once the Panthers are officially eliminated, they'll be able to give the veteran goalie some needed rest as they look toward next season.

Panthers' Luongo Back in Business

News: Roberto Luongo (shoulder) is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Bruins, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo didn't start Sunday against Ottawa because his shoulder tightened up following Saturday's loss to Montreal, but a little rest was evidently all that he needed for the issue to settle down enough to be back in net for Tuesday's key showdown against the Bruins, who hold a four-point lead on the Panthers in the Eastern Conference standings.

Cats' Luongo Takes OT Loss Saturday

News: Roberto Luongo stopped 22 shots but let in three goals in the Panthers' overtime loss to the Canadiens on Saturday.
Analysis: The defeat was a pretty big setback to the Panthers' playoff odds, but with the team still in the thick of the race, Roberto Luongo figures to draw the starting assignment again Sunday versus the Senators. Luongo is 3-1-1 in his five games since returning from a shoulder injury March 19.

Panthers' Luongo Gives Way To Ellis On Sunday

News: With Roberto Luongo dealing with some soreness following Saturday's game against the Canadiens, Dan Ellis is slated to start Sunday's contest against the Sens, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Meanwhile, Steve Goldstein of FOX Sports Florida indicates that Roberto Luongo's soreness is upper-body related, but not considered serious. Consider the veteran goalie day-to-day for the time being.

Luongo To Start For Cats On Saturday

News: Roberto Luongo will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Canadiens, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Coach Gerard Gallant said he'd wait and see how Roberto Luongo fares Saturday before determining if he'd stick with the goalie Sunday in Ottawa, but given that the tight nature of the Eastern Conference wild-card standings, it would be a surprise if backup Dan Ellis received the starting nod. Since returning from a shoulder injury just over a week ago, Luongo has looked sharp in his four outings to this point, winning three of the turns and stopping 97 of 104 shots (.932 save percentage). He should keep the Panthers competitive Saturday, even though he's expected to square off against the presumptive Vezina Trophy winner in Carey Price.

Luongo's 24 Stops Carry Panthers Past Leafs

News: Roberto Luongo saved 24 of 25 Thursday in a 4-1 victory over Toronto.
Analysis: After one down game Tuesday, Roberto Luongo bounced right back with his third win in four starts. He's given up just a single goal in all three of those victories, and the Panthers will surely lean heavily on their veteran netminder as they try to claw their way into one of the Eastern Conference's final playoff spot.

Panthers' Luongo Gets Thursday Start

News: Roberto Luongo is slated to start Thursday's game against the Leafs, Steve Goldstein of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo, who gave up four goals on 25 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Lightning, is in a decent spot to bounce back Thursday, with the Leafs in the midst of a six-game slide.

Luongo, Panthers Lose Battle Of Florida Teams

News: Roberto Luongo gave up four goals on 25 shots Tuesday in a 4-3 loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: A tough loss for the Panthers in the battle of Florida, as their playoff hopes are fading fast. The Panthers are the only team with a legitimate chance to catch Boston for the Eastern Conference's final playoff spot, but they're now four points back with nine games left. Roberto Luongo had turned in a pair of commanding performances since returning from injury, but this was not a time when the Panthers could afford for him to take a step back.

Panthers' Luongo Gets Tuesday Start

News: Roberto Luongo is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Lightning, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo, who was won both of his starts since returning from a shoulder injury, allowing one goal in each of those turns, will take aim Tuesday at a Lightning squad that has won three in a row, by a combined tally of 12-6.

Panthers' Luongo Allows Single Goal, Gets Win

News: Roberto Luongo made 26 saves through overtime and stopped all three snipers in the shootout in a 2-1 win over the Bruins on Saturday night.
Analysis: And with the win, the kitties edge closer to a possible playoff berth. This was Bobby Lou's second game back between the pipes and he has allowed a sum total of two goals in 125 minutes of action. #sizzle

Panthers' Luongo To Get Saturday's Nod

News: Roberto Luongo will start in goal Saturday against the Bruins, Jameson Olive of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: The Panthers' playoff hopes are fading quickly, but Roberto Luongo and company will have a prime opportunity to put themselves back in contention if they are able to knock off the Bruins, who currently sit in the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference. Luongo looked sharp in his return from a two-plus week absence Thursday against the Red Wings, turning away 26 of 27 shots in a 3-1 victory. The Panthers will need Luongo to be on point again with Boston expected to counter with Tuukka Rask, who has been mostly airtight in goal since the All-Star break.

Panthers' Luongo Saves 26, Wins In Return

News: Roberto Luongo (shoulder) got back on the ice with a win Thursday, stopping 26 of 27 in a 3-1 victory over the Red Wings.
Analysis: It was his first appearance in 16 days, dating back to when he left the Panthers' March 3 contest against Toronto after suffering the shoulder injury. And it comes at a good time, as the Panthers will need Roberto Luongo's stability in goal more than ever as they face an uphill battle for the East's final playoff spot.

Panthers' Luongo Set To Return Thursday

News: Roberto Luongo (shoulder) is slated to start Thursday's game against the Red Wings, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo, who last suited up on March 3, checks back into the Florida lineup with a 23-16-11 mark, to go along with a 2.37 GAA and .921 save percentage. He'll look to help the Panthers -- who are scrambling to remain in the playoff hunt -- bounce back Thursday, on the heels of consecutive losses to the Rangers and Habs.

Panthers' Luongo Could Be Ready To Play Thursday

News: The Panthers will assess Roberto Luongo's condition following Thursday's morning skate before determining if he'll be able to play later that evening against the Red Wings, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo was on the ice for Wednesday's practice and appeared to be comfortable while facing shots. Initially deemed a day-to-day concern, Luongo's shoulder injury has resulted in a two-week absence, but the netminder finally seems to be nearing the finish line of the recovery process. If all goes well Thursday morning, Luongo will likely displace Dan Ellis as the starting goalie and try to resuscitate the Panthers' fading playoff hopes.

Panthers' Luongo Not Quite Ready

News: Roberto Luongo (shoulder) won't start Tuesday's game against Montreal, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: As a result, the Panthers will stick with Dan Ellis on Tuesday, though Roberto Luongo is nearing a return and appears to be a candidate to start Thursday's game against Detroit. Luongo was a full participant in Tuesday's morning skate and is expected to practice with the team Wednesday.

Panthers' Luongo Skates Again Sunday

News: Roberto Luongo (shoulder) was able to skate again Sunday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo remained unavailable for the Panthers' loss to the Rangers later in the day, but coach Gerard Gallant acknowledged that the goalie was "getting closer" to a return. He continues to be viewed as day-to-day with his recovery, but there's no clear evidence as of yet that he'll be available to play Tuesday against the Canadiens.

Panthers' Luongo Works Out Again Saturday

News: Roberto Luongo (shoulder) worked out on the ice following Saturday's morning skate, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo will not be available for Saturday's game against the Hurricanes, but he hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's tilt with the Rangers quite yet. The Panthers' team doctors will likely check back in on Luongo's condition Sunday morning before determining if he'll be fit to play, but the odds seem to favor Dan Ellis picking up another start in his absence..

Panthers' Luongo Out Another Game

News: Roberto Luongo (shoulder) will not be available for Saturday's game against the Hurricanes, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo got in another workout prior to Friday's practice, but he's still not quite healthy enough to hold up for game action just yet. He will still travel with the Panthers to Raleigh for Saturday's game, but Dan Ellis will make yet another start in goal. Luongo has taken a little longer than expected to return from the shoulder injury, but the Panthers don't seem to be viewing him as more than day-to-day at this time. He remains hopeful to play Sunday against the Rangers.
