Panthers' Luongo Slated To Miss Thursday's Game

News: Roberto Luongo (shoulder) has been ruled out for the Panthers' next two games, Jameson Olive of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: The Panthers haven't revealed the results from the CT scan Roberto Luongo required Wednesday on his shoulder/collarbone area, but it doesn't seem as though the team is sounding the alarm on a long-term absence just yet. However, Luongo will miss at least Thursday's game against the Stars and Saturday's tilt with the Islanders, as the Panthers continue to assess his condition. For what it's worth, the Panthers are hopeful Luongo will be able to return to the net next Thursday versus the Jets, but he'll obviously need to show the requisite improvement for the team to sign off on his return. Dan Ellis is expected to start in goal the next two games with No. 2 netminder Al Montoya (groin) also unavailable.

Panthers' Luongo Getting Checked Out

News: Roberto Luongo is slated to undergo a CT scan on his shoulder/collarbone area, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: More on Roberto Luongo's status as we know it, but with fellow goalie Al Montoya likely to miss a decent chunk of time, the Panthers have recalled Dan Ellis and Sam Brittain.

Panthers' Luongo Reenters Game In Chaotic Sequence

News: Roberto Luongo, who was removed from Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs following the first period after taking a slap shot the neck and shoulder area, reentered the game in the third period and played the final 15 minutes of the Panthers' 3-2 defeat. He stopped all 19 shots he faced on the night but didn't factor into the decision, as backup Al Montoya was charged with the loss.
Analysis: Upon being pelted by the Leo Komarov shot with four minutes remaining in the first period, Roberto Luongo remained down on the ice for a few moments and was examined by the Panthers' team trainer. Though he was permitted to finish out the period, Luongo remained in the locker room after the first intermission, with the Panthers deciding to rule him out for precautionary purposes. Montoya then manned the net for the next 20 minutes before suffering an injury of his own 22 seconds into the third period. With no other goalie option on hand with Luongo seemingly ruled out, Montoya tried to play through the injury, but was clearly limited. After he conceded the game-winning goal, Montoya was mercifully pulled, with Luongo, who had been in street clothes just a moments earlier, returning to the crease. It doesn't look like the injury Luongo sustained is too severe, but with the Panthers recalling two goalies from the minor-league ranks Wednesday, he should be considered day-to-day in advance of Thursday's game against the Stars.

Panthers' Luongo: Removal Deemed Precautionary

News: The Panthers relayed that Roberto Luongo, who took a puck to the neck area during Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs, was removed from precautionary purposes, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. He stopped all 16 shots he faced before leaving the game.
Analysis: The fact that Roberto Luongo was able to remain in the game for the final four minutes of the first period after being struck with the puck would seem to support the Panthers' claim. While it appears Luongo isn't looking at a particularly serious injury, he'll still be viewed as day-to-day until he gets back on the ice. His status for Thursday's game against the Stars should be clarified by the morning of the match.

Panthers Officially Rule Luongo Out For Game

News: Roberto Luongo has been officially ruled out from returning to Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs due to an upper-body injury, Alain Poupart of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo took a Leo Komarov slap shot to the side of his head with about four minutes remaining in the first period. After consulting with the Panthers' team trainer, he was allowed to stay in the game for the rest of the period, but didn't join the team on the bench following the intermission. It's possible that the Panthers were just exercising precaution in keeping him in the locker room, but there is surely some concern that he may be experiencing some concussion-like symptoms. More information should be available in the coming days regarding his condition, but for the moment, Luongo should be viewed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Stars.

Panthers' Luongo Leaves After Shot To Head

News: Roberto Luongo took a shot to the side of the head during the first period of Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs. After initially remaining in the game to finish the period, he didn't return from the locker room following the first intermission, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo was on the receiving end of a Leo Komarov slap shot, which sent him sprawling to the ice upon impact. After consulting with the trainer, Luongo stayed in the net for the final 4:03 of the period, but the Panthers decided to keep him out after reevaluating him in the locker room. It's possible that his removal was only precautionary, but the Panthers should provide more clarity on the situation after the game. Backup goalie Al Montoya will man the crease for the remainder of the game.

Panthers Turn To Luongo On Tuesday

News: Roberto Luongo is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo returns to the Panthers' net Tuesday after giving way to Al Montoya in the second game of the team's back-to-back set on Sunday. He'll face a Toronto squad that has dropped consecutive 4-0 decisions to Montreal and Washington.

Cats' Luongo Bailed Out By Offense Saturday

News: Roberto Luongo had one of his worst outings of the season Saturday, giving up three goals on 14 shots to the Sabres. However, the Panthers offense bailed him out and eventually came away with a 5-3 victory.
Analysis: After Bobby Lu allowed a couple quick ones (two in the first 7:18) the Panthers put forth a total team effort, rallying for a three-goal flurry of their own in the second period while allowing just eight shots on goal in the final two frames. Buffalo would tie it up just past the midway mark of the third, which Scottie Upshall and Derek MacKenzie answered with two more goals to ice it for Florida. Expect Roberto Luongo to quickly put this one behind him and continue to perform more in line with his .920 save percentage and 2.40 GAA as the boys in Sunrise attempt to chase down the Bruins for the final Wild Card spot in the East.

Panthers' Luongo Draws Saturday Matinee Start

News: Roberto Luongo led the Panthers on the ice for pregame warmups and will be in the crease for Saturday's game against the Sabres, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Coach Gerard Gallant typically prefers to split back-to-back sets between his two goalies, but with the Panthers fighting tooth and nail with the Bruins for the final wild-card spot, Roberto Luongo could get another nod Sunday against the Lightning, too. Any decision on Sunday's starter will likely depend on how Luongo fares against the Sabres, the league's lowest-scoring team. The Sabres have been more competitive in their recent contests, but the team's lack of playmakers -- especially with Zemgus Girgensons and Tyler Ennis out -- should make Luongo the favorite to come away with the victory Saturday.

Panthers' Luongo Stops 26 In Loss

News: Roberto Luongo gave up just two goals on 28 shots Thursday, but got no offensive support and thus took his second loss to the Blackhawks in three days.
Analysis: Corey Crawford shut out the Cats, so Roberto Luongo was stuck with his third straight defeat despite allowing two or fewer goals for the ninth time in 10 starts. Wins haven't been flowing in for Luongo owners, but at least the rate stats remain strong.

Panthers Stick With Luongo

News: Roberto Luongo is slated to start Thursday's game against the Blackhawks, Jameson Olive of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo, who absorbed a 3-2 shootout loss to Chicago on Tuesday, will look to bounce back at home on Thursday against a Hawks' squad that will now be without star forward Patrick Kane.

Panthers' Luongo Defeated In Shootout

News: Roberto Luongo held the Blackhawks to two goals on 38 shots Tuesday, but ended up with a 3-2 shootout loss.
Analysis: After a 65-minute goalie battle with the Hawks' Scott Darling, Roberto Luongo anticlimactically let in both Chicago attempts in the tiebreaker. This marks the eighth time in the last nine games that Luongo's given up two or fewer goals, though he's a modest 4-3-2 in that span.

Panthers' Luongo Making Tuesday Start

News: Roberto Luongo will be in the net for Tuesday's game against the Blackhawks, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo was roughed up by the Senators in his last start Saturday, surrendering four goals on 39 shot attempts. His numbers had been trending in the right direction prior to that, as he submitted seven consecutive outings with plus-.900 save percentages. The Blackhawks will counter with backup netminder Scott Darling in their crease.

Luongo, Panthers Edge Habs In Shootout

News: Roberto Luongo allowed just two goals on 32 shots and picked up a shootout win Thursday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: He actually ended up in a 2-0 hole by the middle of the second period, but stood strong while the Panthers mounted a comeback. That's consecutive wins for Bobby Lu, and he's now gone seven consecutive games without allowing more than two goals. The fact that he's only won four of those is a shame.

Panthers' Luongo Gets Nod Thursday

News: Roberto Luongo will be in net for Thursday's match against the Canadiens, Steve Goldstein of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo has been rolling of late with two or fewer goals allowed in six consecutive starts, but he's paled in comparison to the Habs' Carey Price, who has won five of his last six while conceding a total of only eight goals. A low-scoring affair should be in store here, though Luongo might have a difficult time outperforming the man in the opposite net.

Luongo, Panthers Triumph Over Leafs

News: Roberto Luongo stopped 27 of 29 shots Tuesday in a 3-2 victory over Toronto.
Analysis: His fantasy day was hurt a bit by a late Phil Kessel goal, but it's still a strong effort for Roberto Luongo -- his sixth straight outing giving up two or fewer goals. The shame is that he's only won three of those games thanks to the inconsistent Florida offense.

Panthers Start Luongo On Tuesday

News: Roberto Luongo is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Leafs, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo -- who has allowed nine goals over his last five games -- will thus take aim at a Maple Leafs squad that has lost three in a row and is 4-20-2 over its past 26 games.

Panthers Expected To Return To Luongo

News: Roberto Luongo is expected to start Sunday's game against the Blues, the Panthers' official site reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo, who gave way to Al Montoya in Friday's 2-0 loss to the Stars, is 2-1-1 over his past four games, while giving up two goals in each of those contests in that span.

Panthers' Luongo Sharp In Loss

News: Roberto Luongo made 32 saves on 33 shots but was dealt the loss in the shootout against the Blues on Sunday.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo has been sharp lately as he's allowed two or fewer goals in five straight contests, but he only has two wins to show for it in that span. The Panthers are one of the worst scoring teams in the league, so it could be tough for the 35-year-old to pick up the win even on his best nights, but his own play has been better over the last few outings.

Panthers Turn To Luongo On Sunday

News: Roberto Luongo is in line to start Sunday's game against the Blues, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo, who has allowed two goals in each of his last four turns, returns to the Florida net Sunday after giving way to Al Montoya in Friday's 2-0 loss to the Stars, the second end of the team's latest back-to-back set.

Luongo, Panthers Edged In Minnesota

News: Roberto Luongo stopped 21 of 23 in a losing effort Thursday on the road against the Wild.
Analysis: A solid outing for Roberto Luongo, but Devan Dubnyk is still playing like a monster in the Minnesota crease. Luongo has given up exactly two goals in four consecutive outings, but has ended up on the losing end twice in that span.

Florida To Start Luongo On Thursday

News: Roberto Luongo will be in the crease for Thursday's game against the Wild, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The Panthers will stick with Roberto Luongo for the opener of their two-game, two-day road trip in Minnesota, but a starting goalie for Friday's game in Dallas has set to be determined. After often carrying the Panthers to the win column through much of the first three months of the season, Luongo's play has slipped since January. He finished that month with a 2.69 GAA and .909 save percentage in 11 starts, and hasn't seen improved his play thus far in February (2.70 GAA, .913 save percentage in four outings). Fortunately, the Panthers' offense has begun to pick up the slack, aiding Luongo to a 2-1-1 record over those last four turns. Fantasy owners in season-long leagues will probably want to keep Luongo active despite his substandard play, but those in daily formats are better served selecting other options for the Thursday slate.

Luongo, Panthers Cruise By Ducks

News: Roberto Luongo stopped 31 of 33 and benefited from an offensive onslaught in a 6-2 win over the Ducks on Tuesday.
Analysis: The Panthers had a nice advantage in net with Ilya Bryzgalov starting on the other end, and they took advantage. Roberto Luongo's been a bit up and down recently, but has settled down over the last three, going 2-0-1 while allowing just two goals in all three contests.

Panthers Go With Luongo On Tuesday

News: Roberto Luongo is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Ducks, according to Steve Goldstein of FOX Sports Florida.
Analysis: The start will be the third straight for Roberto Luongo, who has allowed two goals in each of his last two turns after allowing five goals on 37 shots to the Rangers in last Monday's 6-3 loss.
