Panthers Luongo Takes Defeat Saturday

News: Roberto Luongo stopped 31 of 34 shot attempts Saturday against the Penguins, but ended up taking his seventh loss of the season in the 3-1 defeat.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo had trouble on a few occasions in getting his glove up in time to make stops, but by and large, he turned in a credible outing in defeat. The Panthers offense could only find the net one time, despite firing off 45 shots and hitting the post on multiple occasions. It ended up spelling an end to Luongo's three-game winning streak.

Panthers' Luongo Confirmed For Saturday

News: Roberto Luongo has been confirmed as the starter in goal for Saturday's match with the Panthers.
Analysis: He'll put a three-game winning streak on the line versus the Penguins and their goalie, Marc-Andre Fleury, who has reeled off three straight wins of his own.

Panthers' Luongo In Line For Saturday Start

News: Roberto Luongo was the first goalie off the ice at the Panthers' morning skate and is thus in line to start Saturday against the Penguins, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo has put together a three-game winning streak, highlighted by back-to-back victories in long shootouts against the Capitals and Flyers. While the high-scoring Penguins don't make for a particularly favorable matchup, they've been bitten hard by the injury bug and the mumps virus over the last several weeks. Even in a packed Saturday slate, Luongo still looks like a serviceable fantasy option.

Luongo, Panthers Mastering Long Shootouts

News: Roberto Luongo stopped 25 of 26, then came out on top in a six-round shootout to deliver a 2-1 victory over the Flyers on Thursday.
Analysis: Just two nights after picking up the win in an NHL-record 20-round shootout, Roberto Luongo dominated in the skills contest again, stopping five of six. He's given up just four goals over the course of a three-game winning streak and is putting up surprisingly excellent rate stats for the Panthers.

Panthers' Luongo To Take Net Thursday

News: Roberto Luongo will man the net Thursday for the Panthers on the road in Philadelphia, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Coach Gerard Gallant will stick with the same lineup that came out on top in a 20-round shootout Tuesday against the Capitals, with no player being more instrumental in that victory than Roberto Luongo. The 35-year-old has won both of his last two outings while posting save percentages above .930, bring his record to 11-6-6 on the campaign. He should be a decent play against a Flyers attack that ranks in the middle of the pack league-wide in goals per game.

Panthers' Luongo Wins In Record-Setting Shootout

News: Roberto Luongo stopped 23 of 24 shots through overtime, then faced another 20 in a shootout of record-setting length, capped by turning away Alex Ovechkin's second shootout attempt in a 2-1 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: Quite the marathon shootout for Roberto Luongo and Washington netminder Braden Holtby, but it was Luongo who ended up being one better. He's been excellent lately, delivering a 5-1-1 record over his last seven games.

Panthers' Luongo Gets The Nod Tuesday

News: Roberto Luongo will start Tuesday's game against the Capitals, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo has not been as sharp in December as he was the previous two months, but he has still picked up the win in three of his five starts this month. He will square off against a Washington that has won four of five games entering Tuesday's contest.

Cats' Luongo Topples Wings In Shootout

News: Roberto Luongo stopped 29 of 31 shots, then turned aside both shootout attempts in Friday's 3-2 win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Another strong performance by Bobby Lu, who improved his record to 10-6-6 with a 2.37 GAA and .924 save percentage -- both of which are slightly better than his career averages (2.51 and .919). Roberto Luongo has been the backbone of the much-improved Panthers, who currently own an Eastern Conference wild card spot after 27 games played, and his aforementioned .924 save percentage is fourth-best in the league among goalies who have made 20 or more starts.

Panthers Rolling With Luongo On Friday

News: Roberto Luongo will be in net Friday against the Red Wings, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The Panthers appear inclined to save backup Al Montoya for the easier matchup of their weekend back-to-back Saturday in Buffalo, allowing Roberto Luongo to pick up his fifth straight starting nod. Luongo has a rather middling career track record against Detroit, going 12-13-6 with a 2.88 GAA over 31 outings.

Cats' Luongo Suffers Loss Monday

News: Roberto Luongo took the loss Monday, allowing three goals on 27 shots as the Panthers fell 4-2 to the Blues. The fourth goal was an empty netter.
Analysis: The stats don't tell it all for this one, as two of the goals Bobby Lu gave up were on unfortunate deflections by his own players. Realistically, he probably deserved the win, especially since the Panthers offense unloaded 34 shots on Marty Brodeur, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Roberto Luongo (9-6-6) now owns a .923 save percentage and a 2.40 GAA in 21 games this season on a continually-improving Cats squad.

Panthers' Luongo To Start Monday

News: Roberto Luongo will start Monday's game against the Blues, Panthers announcer Steve Goldstein reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo, who has won two of his three December starts, will square off against the Blues on Monday for the first time since Feb. 17, 2013.

Luongo, Panthers Down Sabres

News: Roberto Luongo stopped 26 of 28 shots he faced in Saturday's win over the Sabres.
Analysis: After posting shutouts in his previous three outings against the Sabres dating back to his day in Vancouver, Roberto Luongo allowed a second-period tally to Drew Stafford to end the Sabres' scoreless streak against him at 214 minutes and 21 seconds. The second period would be the only point in Saturday's start that Luongo would experience any turbulence, as he stopped all 19 of the shots he faced in the first and third periods.

Panthers' Luongo Starting Saturday

News: Roberto Luongo will start in goal Saturday against the Sabres, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo will start a third consecutive game for Florida, suggesting the upper-body injury he suffered late last month is indeed completely behind him. The 35-year-old's first win of the season was a 26-save shutout of Buffalo back on Oct. 17.

Canucks' Luongo Unimpressive In Shootout Loss

News: Despite seeing his team outshoot the opposition 55-20, Roberto Luongo gave up three goals and ended up losing in the shootout Thursday against the Jackets.
Analysis: Sergei Bobrovsky absolutely stood on his head for Columbus, while Roberto Luongo did not turn in a very sharp outing. On the bright side, he's lost in regulation just twice in his last eight starts, although his 3-2-3 record in that span isn't awe-inspiring.

Panthers' Luongo To Get Starting Nod Thursday

News: Roberto Luongo will be in the net Thursday against Columbus, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo returned from an upper-body injury Tuesday against the Red Wings and steering his team back into the win column, stopping 38 of 41 shots to score the upset. Now healthy, Luongo will try to help the Panthers beat the Blue Jackets in South Florida for the first time since 2004.

Panthers' Luongo Wins In Return

News: Roberto Luongo surrendered three goals on 41 shots, but earned his eighth win of the season against Detroit on Tuesday.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo didn't seem to miss a beat after missing some time with his upper body injury, making an impressive 38 saves and posting a .927 save percentage. Considering how well he played, expect Bobby Lu to be back in the crease for Florida's next game.

Panthers Will Start Luongo On Tuesday

News: Roberto Luongo (upper body) will be cleared to start Tuesday against the Red Wings, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo, who backed up Al Montoya on Monday night, will return to the net as expected after experiencing no overnight setbacks with his injury. It might be best for his fantasy owners to keep him on the bench while he shakes off the rust from a two-game absence against a quality opponent, but it shouldn't take Luongo too long to settle back into a rhythm.

Panthers' Luongo Expected Back Tuesday

News: Roberto Luongo (upper body) is expected to start in net Tuesday against the Red Wings, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo said he could have played Monday against the Blue Jackets if the team had needed him to, but he'll get an extra day of rest instead as Al Montoya gets the start.

Panthers' Luongo Will Travel To Columbus

News: Roberto Luongo (upper body) will travel with the team to Columbus on Monday, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo's upper-body injury was considered minor, but caused him to miss Friday's game. It appears he will be available Monday following the news that Dan Ellis was reassigned to AHL San Antonio.

Injury To Panthers' Luongo Not Considered Serious

News: Coach Gerard Gallant said that the upper-body injury suffered by Roberto Luongo in Wednesday's win over the Hurricanes isn't considered serious, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: While the Panthers are viewing Roberto Luongo as day-to-day after he was reevaluated Thursday morning, he's already been ruled out for Friday's game against the Senators and could be forced to miss a few more contests beyond that. The Panthers will go with Al Montoya, who preserved Luongo's shutout bid in relief Wednesday, as their primary netminder for the time being, with the newly-recalled Dan Ellis slotting in as his backup.

Panthers' Luongo Exits With Upper-Body Injury

News: Roberto Luongo suffered an upper-body injury during Wednesday's game and will not return, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The Panthers do not believe Roberto Luongo's injury is serious, but he was unable to continue after being injured in the second period. Expect an update on his status as more details become available.

Panthers' Luongo Leaves Game Early

News: Roberto Luongo left Wednesday's game against the Hurricanes early in the second period, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: It is not clear what is wrong with Roberto Luongo, but he had stopped all 11 shots he faced before being replaced by Al Montoya. Luongo's status should be made available shortly.

Panthers' Luongo Set To Play Wednesday

News: Roberto Luongo will be in the crease Wednesday against the Hurricanes, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo has dropped four his last five decisions to bring his record to 6-5-5 on the season, but has only had one truly poor outing in that quintet. Instead, it's the lack of goal support that's primarily been his undoing recently and for most of the season, as the Panthers have averaged 2.2 goals per game over their last five contests.

Panthers' Luongo Solid Despite 4-1 Loss

News: Roberto Luongo let in three goals on 38 shots in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Wild.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo played well enough to win the game for Florida, but like we have seen too many times this season, his teammates could not find the back of the net enough to support him. Going into Monday's game, Bobby Lou was ranked 13th in the league with 459 saves. He's faced 30-plus shots in 10 of 16 starts -- a big reason why he'll most likely finish in the top 10 in saves this season. Don't let the losses scare you -- he's been playing excellently in goal, and if he can get a little scoring help, he'll find the win column more regularly.

Panthers' Luongo Will Start Monday

News: Roberto Luongo will start in net Monday against the Wild, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Roberto Luongo has hit a rough patch lately, going 1-1-2 in his last four starts, but has played well over that span. He dropped his last game in overtime to the Predators, but made an impressive 48 saves on 50 shots in the loss.
