Canucks' Gaunce Sent Back To Junior

News: Brendan Gaunce has been sent back down to the OHL, News 1130 reports.
Analysis: Brendan Gaunce scored twice in the preseason but competition is tough and he just missed the cut. John Tortorella spoke about why Gaunce was sent down "The tempo and pace of his game needs to improve. The kids need to play." It's kind of surprising he is being sent down but he is still only 19 years of age and will be a force one day in the future.

Canucks' Gaunce May Not Make Team

News: Despite remaining consistent in preseason play, it is looking like Brendan Gaunce may not start with the Canucks this season, Team 1040's Matt Sekeres reports. "Not sure the NHL is in his best interest right now", said GM Mike Gillis.
Analysis: This is a little bit shocking considering Brendan Gaunce has scored twice in the preseason so far and hasn't looked out of place. Gillis also mentioned that it is likely that as many as two junior-eligible players will be in the lineup opening night. Bo Horvat and Hunter Shinkaruk look like the clear front-runners as of now. Gaunce's time will come eventually.

Canucks' Gaunce Scores In Second Consecutive Game

News: Brendan Gaunce tallied Vancouver's lone goal in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Oilers. He has now scored in both of Vancouver's preseason games.
Analysis: He may of just been in the right place at the right time for both goals, but Brendan Gaunce is making a serious case to crack the opening roster. His grit and scoring ability make him a great potential candidate for the team's third or fourth line. Space is limited so Gaunce will need to continue his impressive play if he wants one of those coveted roster spots.

Gaunce Scores in Canucks' Preseason Opener

News: Brendan Gaunce impressed during Vancouver's preseason opener against the San Jose Sharks Monday, tallying a goal while also demonstrating his hard work ethic.
Analysis: Brendan Gaunce has a good chance of cracking Vancouver's lineup and is off to a good start. He isn't afraid to go to the dirty areas and could be the type of player Vancouver is looking for. He isn't likely to have much fantasy value if he makes the team, but he is one to watch in future years.

Gaunce On The Canucks' Radar

News: Canucks general manager Mike Gillis said Brendan Gaunce will "be given every opportunity" to make the team's roster next season, the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: One of Gillis' focuses this offseason is to make his team younger, which puts Brendan Gaunce, Frank Corrado, Nicklas Jensen, Jordan Schroeder and others on the Canucks' radar for the 2013-14 campaign. Gaunce, 19, showed promise at the junior level this season, totaling 82 points in 77 regular and postseason games with Belleville of the OHL. He could be the answer to the Canucks' constant problems at finding a third-line center. Put Gaunce on your radar as a late-round flier if he does nab a roster spot.

Canucks Recall Gaunce

News: The Canucks recalled Brendan Gaunce on Thursday.
Analysis: Brendan Gaunce will join the team's taxi squad. The 19-year-old 2012 first round pick showed promise in the OHL this season, totaling 82 points in 77 games, including postseason play. While Gaunce will receive some nice exposure to the big league club while taking part in practices, there would likely have to be multiple injuries for him to be activated for a game.
