Sharks' Hertl Scores Game-Winner Saturday

News: Tomas Hertl scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's win over the Predators.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl now has seven goals and 14 points in 32 games, putting him on pace for a career-high 17-goal season. While he hasn't been a top scorer this season, Hertl has delivered in the clutch with three-game-winning goals. Skating on the top line, Hertl is a decent option in deeper leagues, but he's been too inconsistent to warrant a look in most shallower formats.

Sharks' Hertl Gets Two Points In 7-4 Win

News: Tomas Hertl notched a goal and assist in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Bruins.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl's goal, his sixth of the season, was the final tally on a night the Sharks tore up the Boston defense. His assist during 5-on-4 play in the second period marked his third power-play point of 2014-15.

Sharks' Hertl Notches Goal

News: Tomas Hertl scored a goal in 16:34 worth of ice time in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The goal was his fourth of the year and snapped a six game goalless streak. Tomas Hertl has been improving of late, as he now has six points in November after recording just three in the season's opening month and he's well on his way to surpassing last season's 25 point effort.

Sharks' Hertl Dishes Out Two Helpers

News: Tomas Hertl dished out a pair of helpers in Saturday's win over Dallas.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl had gone quiet recently, but now has a three-game point streak. Currently skating on the third line, the youngster's fantasy value is limited due to his bottom-six role. He still has has seven points (three goals) in 15 games, however, meaning he should easily surpass the 37 points (15 goals) he recorded in his injury-riddled 2013-14 rookie campaign.

Sharks' Hertl Snaps Drought With Goal

News: Tomas Hertl scored a power-play goal in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Dropped to the fourth line Saturday, Tomas Hertl was able to restore some faith from the Sharks by notching his first goal since Oct. 16. Hertl was otherwise quiet on the night with no shots on goal in his 9:30 of ice time at even strength, so there's not much of an incentive for the Sharks to rush him back to a top-six role just yet. He'll probably need to post multiple quality outings in a row on the checking line before the Sharks can justify an increase in his ice time.

Sharks' Hertl Will Play Saturday

News: Tomas Hertl will be in the lineup Saturday against the Islanders, likely as a member of the Sharks' fourth line, Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com reports.
Analysis: While Tomas Hertl will avoid being a healthy scratch for the contest, it's apparent that his stock is on the downturn. The 20-year-old has been held to three points on just 13 shot attempts over the Sharks' first 12 games. He'll probably need to play better in more limited minutes before warranting a return to one of the top two lines.

Sharks' Hertl Could Be Healthy Scratch Saturday

News: Tomas Hertl was skating with the Sharks' fourth liners at Saturday's morning session and could be a healthy scratch later in the evening against the Islanders, Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com reports.
Analysis: Despite opening the season on fertile ground in a top-six role, Tomas Hertl has mustered only three points in 12 games, including just one in his last eight. There's no doubting the talents of the Czech winger, but it might not be worthwhile to hold on to him in most leagues until he starts producing like he did as a rookie.

Sharks Drop Hertl To Third Line

News: Tomas Hertl will play on the Sharks' third line with James Sheppard and Andrew Desjardins on Tuesday versus the Bruins, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: After the Sharks were shut out by the Rangers over the weekend, coach Todd McLellan has decided to tinker with all four of his lines in an attempt to spark some offense. With two points (both goals) and seven shots on goal over six games, Tomas Hertl hasn't done much to take advantage of his prime position on the top line with Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton. Joining inferior offensive talents in Desjardins and Sheppard probably won't help Hertl rediscover the scoring touch he showed as a rookie.

Sharks' Hertl Nabs Goal In Win

News: Tomas Hertl potted a goal in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl's tally gave the Sharks a two-goal lead just five minutes in the game, with the young Czech forward using his considerable burst to track down a Joe Thornton pass and then burying the puck past goalie Ondrej Pavelec. The 20-year-old was arguably running neck-and-neck with the Avs' Nathan MacKinnon for the Calder Trophy last season before suffering a long-term knee injury in December, so 50 to 60 points could be a realistic expectation if he's able to log a full season of action.

Sharks' Hertl Slated To Serve As Third-Line LW

News: Tomas Hertl is set to assume a top-line role at left wing to begin the season, Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com reports.
Analysis: After his brilliant rookie season was interrupted by a knee injury, Tomas Hertl will face high expectations regarding what he may be capable of producing during a campaign in which he stays healthy. His point total of 15 goals and 10 assists over 37 games as a rookie would prorate to 33 and 22, respectively, over an 82-game schedule. And if he does in fact stick on the line next to Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski throughout the season, the scoring upside could be even greater than 55 points.

Sharks' Hertl To Enter Camp At Full Health

News: Tomas Hertl (knee) will enter training camp with his health fully intact, Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com reports.
Analysis: After Tomas Hertl saw his rookie season cut in half following knee surgery last December, the Sharks were understandably holding their breath when Hertl tweaked the knee in July during the team's prospect camp. However, team doctors determined Hertl's injury was nothing to worry about days later, and now the 20-year-old will look to put in a full season in the pros. Hertl often put on dazzling displays of creativity as a goal-scorer as a rookie, and with the winger ticketed for a top-line role alongside savvy center Joe Thornton, a breakout season could be on the horizon.

Sharks' Hertl Fine After Knee Scare

News: Tomas Hertl said the tenderness in his knee that he first experienced in Tuesday's practice isn't anything to worry about, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl said that he only felt the sensation in his knee because he had been off the ice for more than a month. He'll likely take the next couple days off to rest before continuing his offseason workouts again.

Sharks' Hertl Tweaks Knee While Practicing

News: Tomas Hertl tweaked his knee during a practice Tuesday and will likely sit out the Sharks' second annual Prospects Summer Scrimmage on Wednesday, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Any news involving Tomas Hertl's knee immediately raises attention given that he missed several months of his rookie season due to MCL and PCL injuries that required surgery, but this particular ailment isn't anything to panic about yet. The Sharks seem optimistic Hertl will need only a couple days off the ice to heal up, but more information should come available if the injury is revealed to be more than a day-to-day concern.

Analysis: Tomas Hertl has two goals and two assists through the first three games of the World Championships.

Sharks' Hertl Scoring At World Championships

News: Over the Czech Republic's first two games at the World Championships, Tomas Hertl has a goal and two assists, while averaging just under 15 minutes of ice time.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl has had an instant impact on the Czech team, scoring just eight seconds into the team's second game, which the Czechs lost to Sweden in a shootout. This experience should prove invaluable to Hertl in the coming NHL season.

Sharks' Hertl Added To Czech National Team

News: The Czech Republic Men's National Team announced Tuesday that Tomas Hertl will be joining the team for the 2014 IIHF Men's World Championship.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl had an impressive season, tallying 15 goals and 10 assists in 37 regular season games. This will be good experience for the young forward who has a very bright future. Maybe if they win he can treat the team to a night a Dave And Busters.

Hertl, Sharks Fall In Game 7

News: Tomas Hertl had an assist and three shots, but that wasn't enough as the Sharks lost to the Kings in Wednesday's Game 7 match.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl is one of the bright spots in a disappointing season for San Jose. Though his season was cut short, he finishes as one of the two most exciting rookies to emerge this year, tallying 15 goals and 10 assists in 37 regular season games. He's a natural goal scorer, but beware of an inflated value in 2014-15 drafts. He didn't play a full season, had slumps, and will be entering a sophomore campaign which can often find forwards regressing.

Hertl Has Assist In San Jose Loss

News: Tomas Hertl had an assist and a pair of shots in Thursday's loss to the Kings.
Analysis: Through four postseason games Tomas Hertl has two goals and two assists. He's fully bounced back from injury and is making the case that he could have been a Calder finalist if it hadn't been for his midseason injury.

Hertl Scores Second Postseason Goal For Sharks

News: Tomas Hertl had a goal and six shots in a Game 3 win over LA.

Hertl Moves Back To Sharks' Top Line

News: Tomas Hertl had one shot and one hit through 15 minutes of ice time in Sunday's Game 2 win over the Kings.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl didn't have much of an impact on the scoresheet in Game 2. In fact, he was of only five players on the team who didn't record a point in the 7-2 win. However, it's worth noting that coach Todd McLellan rejiggered the lines in the second period, placing Hertl on Joe Thornton's top line, where he had thrived early in the season before his injury. With Joe Pavelski back on the third line, the Kings won't be able to focus on shutting down the first line, so things may open up for Hertl.

Sharks' Hertl Notches Two Points In Playoff Debut

News: Tomas Hertl scored a goal and added an assist Thursday against the Kings in his first-ever NHL playoff game. He went minus-1 and put five shots on goal.
Analysis: A heck of a debut for Tomas Hertl, who skated just 12:15 in the contest. If he keeps going like this, he's going to have to be bumped up into the top six, and soon.

Sharks' Hertl Ready For Playoffs

News: Tomas Hertl returned from injury for the final two games of the season.
Analysis: That's big for the Sharks and gives fantasy owners a nice dark horse for some playoff productivity. However, Tomas Hertl didn't do much in his first two games back -- he had no points and four shots in those games while playing more than 15 minutes per game. It's tough to know how he'll perform in his first playoff appearance, as Hertl's a rookie and has been out most of the season -- though he's certainly shown he has the potential to be an impact player.

Sharks' Hertl To Return Friday

News: Tomas Hertl (knee) will play in Friday's game against the Avalanche, CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl has been sidelined since Dec. 19, but he was medically cleared by two doctors to resume playing, and he will take the ice Friday night. Hertl's return should give a slumping Sharks offense a boost, as he tallied 15 goals and 10 assists in 35 games earlier this season.

Sharks' Hertl Could Return Over Weekend

News: Tomas Hertl (knee) could return to the lineup for one of the final two regular season games, Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com reports.
Analysis: Tomas Hertl set the league abuzz in his third career game with a four-goal performance against the Rangers, and was viewed as the frontrunner for the Calder Trophy before suffering what was thought to be a season-ending knee injury in December. The 20-year-old has recovered faster than expected, resuming skating in late February and returning to practice last week. He'll need final medical approval before suiting up in any games over the weekend, but he's at least expected to be available for the start of the Sharks' playoff series next week with the Kings. While Hertl's extended absence may force him to settle for limited minutes initially upon returning, his return undoubtedly provides an offensive boost for San Jose.

Sharks' Hertl Ditches No Contact Jersey

News: Tomas Hertl practiced without his usual orange non-contact jersey Wednesday for the first time since suffering his knee injury, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Head coach Todd McLellan said after practice that losing the non-contact jersey was one of several steps Tomas Hertl needs to complete before receiving clearance to return to the Sharks' lineup. Things would seem to be looking up for Hertl, but it still seems doubtful that he'll return this season.
