Jackets Place Murray (Ankle) On Injured Reserve

News: Ryan Murray (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray is out 4-to-6 weeks due to the ankle injury, so it comes as no surprise that the team placed him on injured reserve to open up a roster spot. The Blue Jackets will likely make a corresponding move at some point in the near future.

Jackets' Murray (Ankle) Out 4-to-6 Weeks

News: Ryan Murray (ankle) is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks.
Analysis: The official diagnosis for Ryan Murray is a high-ankle sprain, which he suffered during Friday's win over St. Louis. A move to injured reserve will likely come in short order, with the Blue Jackets in the midst of a span of three games in four days.

Blue Jackets' Murray (Lower Body) Out Saturday

News: Ryan Murray (lower body) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Ottawa, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray left Friday's game in the third period after taking a shot off of his left leg. The team as not elaborated on the injury, but he'll be evaluated by team medical personnel on Saturday and will not travel with the team. James Wisniewski, who also left Friday's game, will not make the trip either.

Jackets' Murray Leaves Game With Injury

News: Ryan Murray left Friday's contest against the Blues with a lower-body injury and will not return to the game, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray left Friday's game in the third period after blocking a shot with his left leg. Murray and the Blue Jackets will hope that the 21-year-old defender didn't re-injure the knee he had surgery on in March, as that injury has sidelined him for all but six games this season. The team should update Murray's status in the coming days.

Jackets' Murray Picks Up Assist In Return

News: Ryan Murray, playing in his first game since early November due to lingering knee issues, took a regular shift and picked up an assist in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: He didn't see any power play time, which puts a limit on his fantasy ceiling, but Ryan Murray's return could provide a boost to a struggling Blue Jackets' squad. Look for the club to try and deal one of their now-surplus defensemen once Murray proves he can handle a full workload.

Blue Jackets' Murray Activated From IR

News: Ryan Murray (knee) has been activated from injured reserve ahead of Saturday's game in Tampa Bay, the Blue Jackets' official website reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray will finally make his return, following an absence that lasted 36 games. Having also missed the first seven games of the season in the aftermath of March knee surgery, the 21-year-old Murray has only appeared in four contests this season. He impressed as a rookie last year, averaging 19:52 of ice time over 66 games, with 21 points and a plus-4 rating. Murray's return pushes winger Josh Anderson to AHL Springfield.

Jackets' Murray (Knee) Traveling, But Won't Play

News: Ryan Murray (knee) will not play Thursday against the Panthers, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray practiced fully with the Blue Jackets a day earlier and was cleared by doctors to travel with the team to South Florida, but it looks like the team will exercise some precaution and give him some additional recovery time. The blueliner has been progressing well lately after remaining in a long-term holding pattern with his recovery from the knee injury, so he could make his long-awaited return over the weekend in Tampa Bay for the final game of the road trip.

Jackets' Murray (Knee) Practices Fully

News: Ryan Murray (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray clearly appears to be nearing the end of his recovery timetable from knee soreness, which has sidelined him since the beginning of November. The 21-year-old looked set to develop into a cornerstone on the blue line during an impressive rookie season in 2013-14, but he's had a tough time staying on the ice since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery last March. While his upside is as intriguing as just about any defenseman who might be on the waiver wire in most leagues, it's probably best to see how he performs in his first few games after returning to action rather than investing heavily in him right away. His return to action could come as soon as Thursday's game against the Panthers.

Jackets' Murray (Knee) Could Be Cleared Next Week

News: General manager Jarmo Kekalainen said Ryan Murray (knee) could be cleared to return next week, Shawn Mitchell of the COlumbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray resumed practicing almost two weeks ago and would seem to be progressing steadily in his recovery from the knee issue, which has been problematic since he underwent arthroscopic surgery in March. The rearguard was limited to just four games before his knee starting bothering him again, which has kept him out of the lineup since Nov. 1. The Blue Jackets will proceed cautiously with bringing him back in the fold due to the multiple setbacks he's already suffered with his knee, but it does appear likely we'll see him back in action again at some point in February.

Blue Jackets' Murray Practices

News: Ryan Murray (knee) took part in Monday's practice, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray's participation Monday is encouraging, but he was limited, which infers that the blueliner's return is not imminent.

Jackets' Murray Takes Part In Optional Practice

News: Ryan Murray (knee) participated in Friday's optional practice.
Analysis: While it's encouraging to see Ryan Murray skating again, the team is still calling him week-to-week in his recovery. It seems likely that he won't see him play any games until after the New Year.

Blue Jackets' Murray Remains Out Indefinitely

News: Ryan Murray (knee) remains sidelined indefinitely, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray is still in the strength-building portion of his recovery from a knee injury, so he won't be suiting up for the Blue Jackets anytime soon.

Jackets' Murray Will Not Require Surgery On Knee

News: Ryan Murray had another MRI on Tuesday, which revealed no structural damage to his knee and will not require surgery, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Despite the good news, Ryan Murray is still considered week-to-week with the injury rather than day-to-day, ensuring he won't be returning in the immediate future. Instead, it now sounds like a late-November or early-December return date would be a more realistic scenario for the defenseman, barring any setbacks. The 21-year-old has failed to register a point in his four games played this season.

Jackets Rule Murray Out Friday, Move Him To IR

News: Ryan Murray (knee) was ruled out for the Blue Jackets' next two games and was placed on injured reserve, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Despite Ryan Murray's placement on injured reserve, the Blue Jackets are still considering the defenseman day-to-day. Since he last played in a game Nov. 1, he'll be eligible to return as soon as Tuesday's contest against the Capitals. Murray has yet to resume practicing since suffering the injury, so he'll need to demonstrate some progress before an activation can be considered imminent. The organization doesn't believe that surgery is in the cards for Murray, who underwent an arthroscopic procedure on the same knee last March.

Blue Jackets' Murray Dealing With Sore Knee

News: Ryan Murray did not take part in Thursday's practice due to a sore knee, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray missed the Blue Jackets' last game Tuesday due to the sore knee, and it's possible he could miss further action. The Blue Jackets figure to provide an update on his status prior to the team's next game Friday.

Blue Jackets' Murray Out Tuesday

News: Ryan Murray will not play Tuesday against the Hurricanes due to a lower-body injury.
Analysis: It's not entirely certain what will prevent Ryan Murray from playing Tuesday, but head coach Todd Richards said Murray experienced a "minor setback," which hints at him dealing with soreness in the knee that he had repaired over the summer. Murray is considered day-to-day, so it remains to be seen whether he will miss further action beyond Tuesday's game.

Blue Jackets' Murray Sits Out Morning Skate

News: Ryan Murray did not participate in Tuesday's morning skate.
Analysis: Ryan Murray was given a maintenance day Monday, but his absence from Tuesday's skate puts his status for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes in question. Expect an update on Murray's status as more details become available.

Murray (Knee) Activated Off IR Sunday

News: Ryan Murray (knee) was activated off injured reserve Sunday and will dress against the Kings.
Analysis: Ryan Murray takes the spot of Alexander Wennberg on the roster, who was assigned to AHL Springfield. He is expected to be paired with James Wisniewski for Sunday's game against the Kings.

Jackets' Murray Won't Play Saturday

News: Ryan Murray (knee) will not return to action Saturday against the Senators, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray is apparently close to receiving clearance to return to action, but he'll have to get in a few more practices before he's activated from injured reserve. The Blue Jackets acknowledged that it's possible Murray could return at some point during the team's California trip, perhaps as soon as next Thursday versus the Sharks.

Jackets' Murray To Be Evaluated Friday

News: Ryan Murray (knee) could be cleared to return to action as soon as Friday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: If he is cleared, the young defenseman could suit up for Saturday's game in Ottawa, or the Jackets could play it safe and hold him out until their west coast swing the following week. Ryan Murray's return could have an impact on the Jackets' depth on the blue line though, as Cody Goloubef would have to clear waivers to be sent down to the AHL and could be snapped up.

Blue Jackets' Murray Still Without Timetable

News: Ryan Murray (knee) practiced Monday, but is still without a return date, reports the team's official site.
Analysis: The report says that Ryan Murray is getting very close to returning, but he's yet to pinpoint a specific game in which that'll happen. Until further notice, monitor the defenseman's status on a game-to-game basis. "It's not really up to me," Murray said. "It's great to see (the first two wins). We're all working together for the same goal. Obviously, you want to play and be part of everything, but at the same time, if we're winning, then it's always a good thing."

Jackets' Murray Participates In Practice

News: Ryan Murray (knee) was on the ice for practice Wednesday, NHL.com's Rob Mixer reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray is slated to miss the first week of the season after he was placed on injured reserve Sunday, but he looks like he's on track to return shortly thereafter. He'll assume a top-four role on defense once he's healthy.

Blue Jackets Place Murray On Injured Reserve

News: Ryan Murray (knee) was placed on injured reserve Sunday, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray hasn't been cleared for contact, and will now need to miss at least a week because of the designation. He will likely retake a roster spot when he comes back.

Jackets' Murray Still Not Cleared For Contact

News: Although Ryan Murray (knee) continues to skate in practice, he hasn't yet been cleared for contact, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards is still hopeful that Ryan Murray will be able to play in the regular-season opener, but it's looking more like a brief IR stint will be necessary. Cody Goloubef would likely begin the season on the NHL roster if Murray isn't able to go.

Jackets' Murray Skates In Full Gear Thursday

News: Ryan Murray (knee) skated in full practice gear Thursday, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray revealed Thursday that he underwent a knee scope in June to clear up a cartilage issue, a procedure that kept him off the ice for most of the summer. While Murray didn't anticipate that any knee soreness would carry over into training camp, he's nonetheless been slow to progress to full practices. The Blue Jackets haven't relayed a timetable for his return, but the fact that he demonstrated some improvement Thursday suggests a return for opening night could still be in the cards.
