Blue Jackets' Murray Out Saturday To Rest

News: Ryan Murray (knee) will not play in Saturday's game against the Panthers as a precaution, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray thus finishes the regular season with 21 points in 66 games, and it sounds like he should be fine for the start of the playoffs.

Jackets' Murray Finishes Plus-1 In Return

News: Ryan Murray (knee) logged 17:33 of ice time and finished with a plus-1 rating in his return to lineup Friday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Ryan Murray missed the past month of action after going arthroscopic knee surgery, but assumed a prominent role right away for the Blue Jackets upon returning. Prior to the injury, Murray was one of the top-performing rookie blueliners with 20 points and 93 blocked shots in 61 games. He's a huge addition for the Blue Jackets to have over the final handful of games as they look to solidify a playoff spot.

Jackets' Murray Could Return Friday

News: Ryan Murray (knee) will travel with the team to Philadelphia on Thursday, and could play Friday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: The 20-year-old blueliner will presumably travel to get some extra practice in prior to his return, which could come as early as Friday. Ryan Murray has put together a solid rookie season so far, tallying three goals and 17 assists, to go along with a plus-3 rating in 61 games.

Jackets' Murray Skates On Own Thursday

News: Ryan Murray (lower body) skated on his own Thursday, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray was seen wearing full gear and looks to be making progress from the knee injury that has sidelined him for the last two-plus weeks. He was initially given a four-to-six week timetable with the injury, so it probably looks like he won't be a lineup option until the playoffs, should the Blue Jackets qualify.

Blue Jackets' Murray Out 4-6 Weeks

News: Ryan Murray underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Saturday and will miss the next four to six weeks.
Analysis: The injury comes as devastating timing with the Blue Jackets fighting for a contention for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and in need of as many key contributors as possible to secure a spot. For fantasy owners, Ryan Murray's absence is similarly damaging, as the 20-year-old ranked third among all rookies in hits (93) and fifth in power-play points among rookie defensemen (6). Even if the Blue Jackets do qualify for the playoffs, Murray could be hard-pressed to be healthy in time given his lengthy timetable.

Blue Jackets' Murray Day-To-Day

News: Ryan Murray is day-to-day with a lower body injury.
Analysis: The report adds that coach Todd Richards expects Ryan Murray back at some point, but at first glance, it looks like the young blueliner's absence will extend beyond Tuesday's game against the Stars.

Blue Jackets' Murray Exits With Injury

News: Ryan Murray left Monday's game with a lower-body injury and will not return to the contest, Todd Sharrock of bluejackets.com reports.
Analysis: After exiting in the first period, Ryan Murray was ruled out for the night early in the second period. The Blue Jackets are clawing for the No. 8 seed and can ill afford to lose a top-four defenseman, but fantasy owners should have an easier time replacing Murray's production, as the former No. 2 overall pick has just 20 points and 10 PIM through the first 61 appearances of his rookie season.

Jackets' Murray To Play Friday

News: Ryan Murray (upper body) will play in Friday's game against the Sharks, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray left Thursday's game with an upper-body injury and was unable to return. After testing it out Friday, he will be in the lineup for the Blue Jackets.

Blue Jackets' Murray Suffers Injury

News: Ryan Murray left Thursday's game with an upper-body injury and is questionable to return, Todd Sharrock of bluejackets.com reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray stayed in the game after taking a huge hit from the Kings' Dustin Brown, but the rookie defenseman was eventually forced out of action and deemed questionable to return. Brown elbowed Murray in the face/neck area, so a head injury is the most likely diagnosis, assuming that Murray's issue is related to the big hit. Columbus' final game before the Olympic break is scheduled for Friday, meaning that Murray probably won't miss more than one game, unless the injury turns out to be far more serious than it looked. As ugly as the hit was, Murray didn't lose consciousness and returned to skate a few shifts.

Jackets' Murray Grabs Another Assist

News: Ryan Murray assisted on one of the Blue Jackets' three goals in Friday's win over Carolina, giving him three helpers in the last four games.
Analysis: Ryan Murray has certainly seen his production ebb and flow in his rookie season, but he's typically put together his 12 points in bunches, as with this recent stretch. He's seen his power-play time go up and has seven shots on goal in the last two games.

Jackets' Murray Picks Up Two Points

News: Ryan Murray scored a power-play goal, added an assist and went plus-3 in Monday's 6-0 rout of the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: The rookie has just two goals and four points on the season, but if Ryan Murray starts seeing more ice time with the man advantage, he might be able to work his way into some consistent fantasy value.

Jackets' Murray To Play Saturday

News: Ryan Murray (upper body) will play Saturday vs. the Islanders, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray missed Friday's practice with upper-body soreness but will check back into the lineup after completing morning skate without incident. He'll pair up with James Wisniewski on defense.

Blue Jackets' Murray Skates Saturday

News: Ryan Murray (upper body) was on the ice for the Blue Jackets' morning skate Saturday, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray suffered the injury during Thursday's game shortly after tallying his second goal of the season and first point in five games. The fact that he was on the ice in the morning is an encouraging sign that he should suit up for Saturday's game against the Islanders provided he doesn't experience any sort of setback during the day. The 20-year-old defenseman has just three points over 15 games this season, but he has a plus-3 rating while averaging just over 18 minutes per game.

Jackets' Murray Scores In Loss

News: Ryan Murray picked up his second goal of the season in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: The 2012 second overall pick's had a slow start to his first NHL campaign, but he's managed to go plus-1 for a Columbus team that's been outscored by eight goals this year. The rook's got a world of upside, but don't count on too many points this year.

Columbus' Murray Dealing With Upper-Body Injury

News: Ryan Murray suffered an upper-body injury during Thursday's loss to the Rangers, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray earned his second goal of the season Thursday, but any satisfaction gathered from that was likely tempered by the injury and the team's loss. The 20-year-old sat out Friday's practice, but the team is hopeful he'll be able to take the ice Saturday vs. the Islanders.

Jackets' Murray Scores First Goal

News: Ryan Murray scored his first career NHL goal, a power-play marker, in Friday's 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: While he's got a bright future his debut campaign has been a quiet one so far, and Ryan Murray has just two points in 10 games. He took Jack Johnson's spot on the first power play unit in this game though, seeing nearly six minutes of action with the man advantage, and if he continue to secure that kind of special teams action Murray's scoring pace could pick up.

Jackets' Murray Keeping Spot For Now

News: Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said that Ryan Murray would not lose his spot on the blue line when Fedor Tyutin rejoins the lineup Saturday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: It looks like Nikita Nikitin might be the odd-man out for this one, although with seven viable NHL defensemen Richards will likely do a lot of mixing and matching to try and keep everyone fresh unless someone plays himself into the press box.

Jackets' Murray Picks Up First NHL Point

News: Ryan Murray notched his first career assist, blocked three shots and was a plus-3 in Thursday's 4-1 drubbing of the Sabres.
Analysis: After a rough start to the season in the opener, Ryan Murray has settled down nicely. He likely won't collect a lot of points as a rookie, especially with established point men Jack Johnson and James Wisniewski manning the top power play unit, but Murray has shown a knack so far for joining the rush at opportune times.

Jackets' Murray Appears To Have Locked Up Roster Spot

News: Ryan Murray's work in camp and the preseason appears to have sewn up a roster spot for the rookie, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: This does create a bit of a blue line logjam for the organization, as both David Savard and Cody Goloubef would have to clear waivers to be sent down to AHL Springfield, but most organizations aren't going to complain about having a glut of competent blueliners. A trade before Monday's waiver deadline wouldn't be surprising given the depth the Jackets are carrying, but Ryan Murray isn't going anywhere.

Jackets' Murray Notches Exhibition OT Winner

News: Ryan Murray scored the winner in overtime as the Blue Jackets downed the Penguins, 5-4, in their preseason opener Sunday.
Analysis: The 2012 second overall pick has a clear shot at breaking camp on the NHL roster, and moments like this aren't going to hurt his chances any.

Jackets' Murray Looks NHL-Ready At Prospects' Tournament

News: Ryan Murray has been a standout at the annual Prospects' Tournament, leading the Blue Jackets' youngsters to a 7-5 win over the Hurricanes' squad Friday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He mostly played on the Jackets' top pairing alongside Thomas Larkin, scoring a goal and an assist with a plus-3 rating. It would be a bit of a shock if Ryan Murray didn't come out of training camp with a spot on the NHL roster.

Blue Jackets' Murray (Shoulder) Plays In Prospects Game

News: Ryan Murray, who suffered an ugly shoulder injury last fall, suited up in a prospects game Thursday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray ended up undergoing season-ending surgery on the shoulder in January and received clearance to resume on-ice activities in July. The 19-year-old didn't seem limited in any capacity, delivering his typically physical brand of hockey. Murray, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, has a real shot at opening the season with the Blue Jackets.

Jackets' Murray In Line To Earn NHL Spot

News: The Blue Jackets have held off signing a veteran defenseman or extending any training camp invites in the wake of Dalton Prout's surgery in large part due to Ryan Murray, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Other young and unproven defensemen such as Cody Goloubef, David Savard and Ilari Melart will also get long looks in camp, but Ryan Murray's pedigree and status as the second overall pick in 2012 give him a huge leg up on the competition in the battle to win a spot on the NHL roster.

Jackets' Murray Cleared For Contact

News: Ryan Murray (shoulder) will take part in the Blue Jackets' development camp next week after being cleared for contact, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Last year's second overall pick will need to shake off some rust after undergoing shoulder surgery in January, but a good showing in training camp could put him in the Jackets' plans for this season.

Blue Jackets' Murray Likely To Be Cleared In July

News: Ryan Murray (shoulder) has not been cleared for contact but expects to be after a visit to the doctor in early July, the Columbus Dispatch's Aaron Portzline reports.
Analysis: Ryan Murray, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 draft, should be back at full strength in time for the start of the 2013-14 season. There's a chance that he will skip right over the AHL and start his career with the Blue Jackets.
