Pouliot Helping Pens Out

News: Derrick Pouliot tallied power-play assists in back-to-back games over the weekend.
Analysis: His role with Pittsburgh has increased with Kris Letang sidelined due to a concussion. Derrick Pouliot has the skill to produce offensively but is far from a finished product. He now has two goals and seven points in 30 games and deserves consideration as a waiver-wire pickup.

Pens' Pouliot Learning On The Job

News: Derrick Pouliot is pointless with a minus-3 rating in two games since his recall from the Baby Penguins.
Analysis: The organization's top defensive prospect is going through a learning curve and has just two goals and five points in 28 games. Derrick Pouliot skated 26 shifts and finished with 21:00 TOI -- third-most among blueliners.

Penguins Recall Pouliot

News: The Penguins recalled Derrick Pouliot from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Derrick Pouliot -- who has notched two goals and five points in 26 games with the big club this season-- gives the Penguins' blue line some added depth in advance of Tuesday's game against the Blues, with Christian Ehrhoff currently banged up.

Pens' Pouliot Sent To AHL

News: Derrick Pouliot was sent to AHL Wilkes-Barre Scranton on Saturday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Derrick Pouliot has previously played in Wilkes-Barre Scranton before and will see extensive ice time to work on his game. With 26 appearances for Pittsburgh this season, it's certainly possible for him to be recalled before the end of the regular season.

Pens Scratch Pouliot Against Boston

News: Derrick Pouliot will serve as a healthy scratch Saturday against the Bruins.

Pens' Pouliot Finds Back Of Net On Sunday

News: Derrick Pouliot potted a power-play goal Sunday, snapping a 15-game pointless streak.
Analysis: The Penguins gave Derrick Pouliot considerable time on the top power-play unit as the contest went on, a possible foreshadowing of things to come. The rookie now has two goals and four points in 20 games, but will no doubt improve upon those totals as his game matures and his responsibilities increase.

Pens' Pouliot Gets Shot On No. 1 Power Play

News: Derrick Pouliot played on the Pens' top power-play unit Sunday, bumping Evgeni Malkin to the second unit.
Analysis: Coach Mike Johnston said he wanted more shots from the point to spread Chicago's PK unit and Derrick Pouliot responded with a number of good looks -- though he was credited with only one shot. Most likely, the Pens will flip-flop the two players as soon as Tuesday against Washington, but the move shows Johnston's confidence in the young blueliner.

Pens To Play Pouliot On Power Play Wednesday

News: Coach Mike Johnston said that Derrick Pouliot will see time on the power play Wednesday in Edmonton.
Analysis: Derrick Pouliot, who hasn't scored since his first game for Pittsburgh, is still looking to fit in at the NHL level. A big game Wednesday would go a long way towards securing his role, especially with the team in the first game of a three-game Western Canada road trip. The rookie has one goal and three points in nine contests.

Pouliot Back In Pittsburgh

News: With Christian Ehrhoff sidelined Sunday, Derrick Pouliot will serve as part of a third defensive pairing with Robert Bortuzzo on Sunday.
Analysis: Derrick Pouliot's primary value is on the power play, so it will be interesting to see how much time on the man advantage Pittsburgh gives the young blueliner. He has a goal and three points in eight NHL games, plus 23 points (7G, 16A) in 28 games for Wilkes-Barre.

Pens Recall Pouliot From AHL

News: Derrick Pouliot was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre Scranton on Saturday.
Analysis: With Christian Ehrhoff dealing with a possible concussion, Derrick Pouliot will join the squad to give the team seven healthy options on defense. The lineup spot for Sunday's game against the Predators will likely come down to Pouliot and Scott Harrington, who filled in for Ehrhoff on Friday night.

Pens Reassign Pouliot

News: Derrick Pouliot was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after Wednesday's loss to the Blackhawks, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Derrick Pouliot had been subbing in for Kris Letang, who missed the game with a head injury. Letang's odds of being able to play immediately after the break don't appear promising at this juncture, so there's a good chance Pouliot will return to the parent club in short order.

Pouliot In For Pens On Wednesday

News: Derrick Pouliot will take Kris Letang's spot in the lineup and skate with Rob Scuderi, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: The team could have used Derrick Pouliot's talent on the power play Tuesday, when it went scoreless on six attempts. If Letang is forced to miss an extended amount of time, then Pouliot could prove to be a good source of power-play production.

Penguins Recall Pouliot From Minors

News: Derrick Pouliot was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday.
Analysis: With Simon Despres (illness) ruled out and Kris Letang (head) a game-time decision for Wednesday's game against the Senators, Derrick Pouliot could find himself in the Penguins lineup immediately upon his return to the parent club. The 2012 first-rounder has showcased elite offensive skills in the minors (21 points in 25 games) and flashed that potential during his earlier stay in Pittsburgh, notching a goal and two assists over his seven contests.

Pens' Pouliot Sits, Short-Term Future Uncertain

News: Derrick Pouliot served as a healthy scratch Saturday for the first time since Pittsburgh recalled him in December.
Analysis: The team opted for the defensive-oriented rookie, Scott Harrington, over Derrick Pouliot based upon matchups with Montreal. Coach Mike Johnston has stated he'll go with the better fit for his sixth defenseman and with Paul Martin due back Wednesday, Pouliot could find himself back in Wilkes-Barre polishing up his game. The rookie has recorded one goal and three points in seven games for Pittsburgh.

Top Billing For Pens' Pouliot Monday

News: Derrick Pouliot will serve on the Pens' No. 1 power play Monday night.
Analysis: He's been keep quiet the last two games after picking up points in each of his first two contests. Coach Mike Johnston called him light on the puck after Saturday's loss and will be looking for the 20-year-old to win more one-on-one battles Monday in New Jersey. The team has kept Derrick Pouliot active for the last four games over fellow defensive rookies Scott Harrington and Brian Dumoulin because of his prodigious offensive abilities.

Pens' Pouliot Points Again Monday

News: Derrick Pouliot picked up his first power-play assist -- and his second point in as many games -- in a 4-3 shootout loss Monday.
Analysis: His wrist shot from high in the slot was re-directed by Nick Spaling and helped Pittsburgh erase a two-goal, third-period deficit. Derrick Pouliot didn't look particularly strong in his own but will get another game under his belt Tuesday, when the Pens travel to Tampa Bay.

Pens' Pouliot Scores Memorable Goal Saturday

News: Derrick Pouliot flicked a wrister past Roberto Luongo for his first NHL goal on his first shot Saturday against Florida.
Analysis: The goal -- which also proved to be the game-winner -- came with a congratulatory post-game handshake from owner Mario Lemieux, who not only scored in his first game but also on his first shift. Derrick Pouliot, who skated 15:07 TOI, paired with Rob Scuderi and saw action on both of Pittsburgh's two power-play units. His spot in the starting lineup isn't guaranteed Monday and/or Tuesday with Robert Bortuzzo potentially returning from injury, but either way he's made a lasting first impression.

Pens' Pouliot Making Debut Saturday

News: The Penguins confirmed Derrick Pouliot will make his NHL debut Saturday and be paired with veteran Rob Scuderi.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff and Paul Martin are expected to miss three games (at least) and one game, respectively, giving Derrick Pouliot at least a small window to show what he can do. His performance on the man advantage will likely determine his near-term fantasy value.

Pens' Pouliot Practices As Power-Play Point Man

News: Derrick Pouliot practiced as a point man on the Pens' No. 2 power play Saturday.
Analysis: With Olli Maatta, Christian Ehrhoff and possibly Paul Martin missing from the team's lineup Saturday, there's a good chance Derrick Pouliot makes his NHL debut versus the Panthers. Given his pedigree and solid AHL play on the man advantage, the seventh overall pick in the 2012 draft makes for a fine speculative pickup in fantasy pools.

Penguins Recall Pouliot

News: Derrick Pouliot was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: One of the top blue line prospects in all of hockey, Derrick Pouliot is slated to get his first taste of NHL action with the Penguins dealing with multiple injuries on defense. The 20-year-old didn't play until early November while recovering from shoulder surgery, but tallied an impressive seven goals and 20 points over 23 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He could make for an interesting speculative add if he ends up sticking around for a decent length of time.

Pens' Pouliot Skates Monday But Not Close

News: Derrick Pouliot (shoulder) skated for AHL Wilkes-Barre on Monday but is not expected to lose his non-contact jersey for three weeks, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: As a result, it's seems as though the Pens' top defensive prospect won't be ready for game action until late October, at the earliest. Derrick Pouliot is loaded with offensive potential but it remains to be seen as to when he'll make his NHL debut. Chances are the organization will give him time in Wilkes-Barre before promoting him to the Pens.
